Krispy Creams make me sick. I'd never had them until I moved to KC. After coming here I spent about 2 years randomly getting ill in the evening. I finally put it together that I was geting sick on days I had Krispy Cream in the morning. So...Duncan Donuts for me (actually no donuts for me but by default DD wins for not making me sick.)

Here's another reason Dunkin wins:
We (me & my friends) went up to KK at 10 p.m. and ordered 3 donuts at the drive through. The lady gave them to us for free. We then drove around again to try to get some more. When we pulled up she recognized us, and charged us for both times. What a bitch.

true that theres nothing better than local bakeries baked goods but if you cant get those then its krispy kreme for the win. the only thing i ever liked at dunkin doughnuts were the filled holes they sold. a box of those can be good on a late night but ive never been a fan of cake doughnuts. but in all reality a good pie or cheese cake will kick a doughnuts ass anyday.

I've lived in MA all my life, where there's a Dunkin Donuts on every corner. Honestly, their donuts aren't that good. Their coffee is good, and their muffins are great, but their Donuts? Usually a little stale and dry, and hardly delectable. They don't even make the donuts at their stores. They're made at factories, and then trucked to their various stores on large racks, already hours old by the time they've reached the stores.
Krispy Kreme opened their stores here a few years ago (and then closed them a year later), and I have to tell you, it was a personal donut epiphany. Their donuts are moist and delicious, and if you get one hot and fresh right out of the fryer, my god. There's nothing more pleasurable than biting into a hot KK donut.
KK, by far.

True for the most part. Some local bakeries are lackluster, and some are fuckin' amazing.
If I had to choose, there still isn't a choice. KK only does one donut (glazed) very well, and it's only good if it's within an hour or two of coming out of the oven. That's a tiny window of opportunity.
DD is pretty good, but I don't think I've had a dunkin' donut in years. I do miss my mom buying a giant box of the munchkins to shut us up when driving to get to a vacation destination, FWIW. Chocolate munchkins FTMFW.

RIP Donut Shoppe.
Krispy Kreme donuts are small, sugar laced, fatty, and lacking in a taste that doesn't make you sick after eating more than 1. Dunkin Donuts has more variety, larger, not laced with sugar or fat, and some great stand outs like the chocolate cake donut, the boston creme, jelly, crispy crunch, etc. Dunkin Donuts OWNS Krispy Kreme.

KK vs. DD vs. Local Bakeries
If Fresh = Local Bakeries, hands down.
If Price = Local Supermarket Bakeries, hands down. DD comes close second.
If Texture (Yeast) = Tie between Bakeries/DD, ~maybe~ KK if unglazed & fresh.
If Texture (Cake) = Bakeries definitely, DD close second only if fresh.
I just lament that outside of home it seems the independent bakeries disappear in favor for those in supermarkets. Problem is that the ones around here, while tasty, are nowhere near as robust or as...interesting.

I heard about a place called Doughnut Plant (http://www.doughnutplant.jp/index.html). I think they have a few locations around Tokyo. Have you tried it, and is it any good?
I can't believe this is a close poll. Have the people voting for DD never had a Krispy Kreme?
In my experience the stuff at DD has always been sitting out for a while. They aren't awful, just not worth the calories.
K Lemon - There was (maybe still is?) a Mr. Donut chain in america. Same company? Ah, wiki knows all:
"Mister Donut is a large doughnut franchise. Once an American icon, the franchise now operates mainly in Japan and other Asian markets."
"After the acquisition of Mister Donut by Allied-Lyons, all Mister Donut locations within North America were offered the chance to change their name to Dunkin' Donuts. Now only a scattered few locations still hold the name Mister Donut."
I have a really old coffee mug from there.
DD is more cake donuts and KK are basically all yeast. Poll might simply be coming down to which of those types people prefer. Although I guess you can get both types at DD.

Replace Dunkin with Tim Horton's and that entire statement covers my response. Only had Dunkins in Montréal and got ill afterwards. As for KK, our company was handling the web presence for Krispy Kreme in Canada and they would drop off trays of donuts every Friday. The reactions went:
Friday - Week 1: "Woohoo! Free donuts! I'm hoarding as many as I can get!"
Friday - Week 2: "Hooray! Free donuts for all!"
Friday - Week 3: "Guys! The donuts are here!"
Friday - Week 4: "I think there's donuts up the front if you want some."
Friday - Week 5: Walks past the stacks of donut boxes *shudder*.

Krispy Kreme wins. Hell, they give a free donut just for going inside. Plus mine is right next to Best Buy/Circuit city etc. so its perfect for days I don't want to spend money. Pick up my free donut and some water, walk on over to Best Buy and look at all the TV's, speakers, etc. Good stuff.
Whats Dunkin got on that?
Also..
I don't know if this is true of all KK, but they make the donuts constantly, and theres a spot near the counter with a conveyor belt that just carries them to the people putting them in boxes/bags, so while you're waiting in line, if they're making them, you can just grab one as fresh as possible and enjoy.
Crap, crap, and the worst crap of all. They shouldn't be allowed to call what they serve 'egg'.

Holy crap! It was tied until I voted Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme has a really unique taste that's so rich, you either love it or hate it. Dunkin' Donuts, though, is just regular ol' donuts. If I wanted those, I would hit a mom & pop donut shop.
Regular donuts? More like the donuts of freedom!!! Not all of us have the 20 dollars it takes to get a dozen KK, not to mention the insulin one will need!!!

Wow. So there is this poll going on at CAG: Krispy Kreme vs. Dunkin' Donuts. It was tied 72 to 72. My vote put KK ahead by one vote.
x_liquidaria_x says:
About to become tied again. Whats the motherfucking link.
Javil says:
Oh, fuck that shit!
Javil says:
How can you vote DD?!
x_liquidaria_x says:
Cuz KK is disgusting!!!
Javil says:
They're rich, delicious, and downright delightful! DD has regular-style donuts. If I wanted those, I'd much rather hit up Rocky's or that place next to Blockbuster. DD does not deserve to win. At least KK has a taste you can't find anywhere else.
x_liquidaria_x says:
I know of one place. A motherfucking bag of sugar.
Javil says:
*lmao!* Not even, dude. I can fully understand that it's so rich it's either or hit or miss, but golly... So you're saying that DD simply wins by default?
x_liquidaria_x says:
Well out of the two, yes. Better to have a more mundane donut then one that will send you into sugar shock.
Javil says:
Coming from someone who has drank every Mountain Dew flavor known to man, I can't believe I'm even hearing this argument from you.
x_liquidaria_x says:
There's a difference!!
Javil says:
When is the last time you tried a Krispy Kreme donut?
x_liquidaria_x says:
Few weeks ago
Javil says:
Where at? Savemart?
x_liquidaria_x says:
Dunno. Step mom brought em. Bam 73-73 nucka
Javil says:
That isn't even fair! The closest KK is all the way in Hanford. Everyone knows that to truly experience KK is to have one of their donuts fresh off of the conveyor belt.
x_liquidaria_x says:
At least DD's flavor transcends time!!! Thats like saying "This flower LOOKs better... but you can only look at it for 5 minutes, and it'll cost you upwards of 60 or 70 cents to do so".
Javil says:
No, a better analogy would be that you vote for McDonald's over The Itis (from Boondocks) because you don't appreciate donut buns over regular buns. Not that you particularly like McDonald's the best, but you can't appreciate the genius of donut buns.
x_liquidaria_x says:
I'm just saying that KK markets to a select crowd: Silver spoonists who dont know what TRUE flavor is and just want a status symbol. Sure starbucks is good but so is the coffee from 711! Case and point.
Javil says:
I think what's going on here is that YOU don't know true flavor! Your taste buds have been dulled by Mountain Dew and 711 coffee. You can't even compare 711 coffee to Starbucks. They're two completely different things. You can't get a quad latte at 711, just like you can't get that unique flavor from DD. If I wanted a traditional donut, I'd sure as hell go to a mom & pop donut shop over DD!
x_liquidaria_x says:
Bullshit! It's damn easy to get krispy creme flavor!!! Get a DD. Wet it. Roll it around in a bag of sugar and reheat it to melt said sugar.
Javil says:
You're insane. First of all, KK donuts are light and airy. It doesn't hit your stomach nearly as hard as a regular donut. Regular DD donuts don't need to taste good, because you feel like you've had a brick for breakfast after eating just one. KK donuts, on the other hand, deliver maximum flavor on a dainty pastry.
x_liquidaria_x says:
But you can feel yourself getting sick even before the KK gets to your stomach!!!
Javil says:
I don't! And both you and I stomach some harsh things. I think you just have a mental stigma against Krispy Kreme for some reason. Perhaps you got a really old batch.
x_liquidaria_x says:
Nein!! I just hate KK! They're expensive, overly sweet, and nuritionally nonexistant.

thats just it you got them at school chances are they marked up the price. KK is good and its easily affordable. its rare to find that high quality of product at that low of a price. in the end though KK and DD doughnuts come from 2 diff worlds if you like thick heavy cake doughnuts you will gravitate towards DD but if you like light fluffy heavenly doughnuts then the more cultured and refined doughnut lovers stick with KK lol. but the real reality is if youre lucky enough to live in a place where people make things fresh by hand youre in heaven.

That would only be true if most everyone was polarized toward a particular company. I just checked the poll and it's at 77 for DD and 73 for KK but that's generally not statistically too much of a difference. It's too neck-and-neck for there to be a clear cut winnah. I suspect after this weekend, particularly on Sunday, the poll will have a few more people voting and it'll still be close.

All fastfood places have preformed egg. DD bacon is never as fatty as Mcdonalds, you don't eat much of either of their breakfast food at all based on your previous post, so you don't have as much empirical experience to comment on such matters. McD's cheese is always subpoor on all their products. Croissants are only one of your options and McD's bagels are easily 10 times more greasy than DD croissants. I can't weigh KK donuts because they all went out of business around here, and I would not buy one if given the opportunity either. Anyways, given that KK donuts are considered light and airy, more of a pastry, compared to DD more cake like content, I would think that KK donuts weigh less and when comparing the size as well, doubly less.

52g.
You're still under the misconception that smaller=lighter.
It may be heavier, but we won't know until one gets weighed. I think I was thinking about the Sugar Raised Donut the whole time, though.
What you've brought to the table, on all fronts, is opinion. The donut is heavier, the bacon contains more fat...I'm challenging you to provide any factual basis on which you make your claims. And unless you're a local health inspector, your opinion isn't going to cut it.

I am not under that conception. KK donuts are light and fluffy in content, Dunkin Donuts are cakelike. Thus, KK are more likely to weigh less. I mention size as well because if KK donuts content weighs less AND they are smaller, then that will make them weigh quite less.
You've brought opinion as well throughout the majority of your posts. You expect me to go buy donuts and weigh them or go buy DD and McD sandwiches and cut the fat off the bacon and weigh it as well? Gimme a break lol, that's ridiculous. And anyways in order to make a valid comparison I would have to repeat those tests for a large # of trials. To settle this argument, I traveled to both DD and KK and weighed both company's regular, glazed donuts. Using a sample of 200 donuts each, the KK donut weighed about 16 pounds each on average, whereas the DD donuts only weights about 12 pounds each, though they were larger. I have documented proof and the signatures of both bakers and official weightologists to confirm my claims.

There used to be a few Dunkin Donuts here in Portland, and they all closed shortly before the first Krispy Kreme opened in the area.
Krispy Kremes are good, but overhyped, and Dunkin Donuts blew them out of the water.
Random fun fact: In 1996, a local top 40 station that had interviewed Bob Dole on their morning show talked him into appearing at a local Dunkin Donuts that afternoon (the one near 82nd and Foster, to be specific - the building is some bar/restaurant place now).

Krispy Cream...lol...lol
It depends on the type of doughnut for me, (I grew up around BOTH so unlike alot of posters on here, this isnt some territorial thing)
Glazed and Chocolate iced... KK... by a mile... the chocolate iced are perfection, bought a few a couple weeks ago that apparently been iced as soon as the glazed doughnuts had just finished cooling, they were so fresh...
Most others DD... love chocolate cream filled from them...mmmm... the variey is much better with DD
Too bad the nearest DD is about 3-4 hours away from me these days... the closest I get to DD type doughnuts are from Shipleys
and I agree with the remark about not buying KK's from the grocer, because it is not the same thing when they have sat for a day or 2... shelf life on them is short... the chocolate iced packages in the grocer never look really good, buy direct
