GarageGames readying Tribes successor? (http://www.gamespot.com/news/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=26002761)
First up is Garage Games' (made up of many Dynamix vets) successor to the Tribes series. Apparently, a source "close to the developer" says that it is going to release this successor when they launch their online game service, InstantAction (http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=637). I wouldn't be surprised if this is related to the "Legions" tech demo (http://kotaku.com/gaming/gdc/gdc-06-hands+on-with-garage-games-not-tribes-legions-demo-162326.php) (Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rOPjGTgzrE)) that GG displayed at the 2006 GDC. Though there is that part in the GameSpot article about this successor being started 2 months ago that seems to go against this theory, I have noticed that the copyright year on the Legions web site (http://www.legionsgame.com/) had been changed to 2007, and it was changed fairly recently. Perhaps the name is the same, but the game is different from the tech demo, or it is possible that this successor has nothing to do with Legions.
Braben reveals more on The Outsider, Elite IV (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/830/830293p1.html)
Also allegedly up for revival is the space-trading Elite series, or more specifically Elite IV, which as IGN points out, was originally announced in 2001. The article only briefly mentions a statement from Frontier Development's David Braben, who stated that Elite IV "is pencilled in for release on current generation gaming hardware." Will the game come out on the current gen consoles, true to Braben's word, or do we have a "Duke Nukem Forever... IN SPACE" on our hands? Only time will tell, I guess.
