360 will have Mass Effect, Halo 3, BioShock, Orange Box, as newish titles by Christmas.
PS3 will have Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword etc.
Wii will have Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, etc.
All will have Guitar Hero 3.
What's your preference in games?

Go to Wikipedia. Search for each system. On each page there will be a link to a list of games available and coming out for each system and when they're scheduled to be released. That's about all the info you need to know.
Myself personally, I'd go with either a 360 or a Wii (if I did not already have the latter of those two).
Also, that bit about "all my friends and people online says the PS3 sucks" made me laugh. Then cry. Then I was a little itchy, but that's because my sock has been clinging to my leg hair all day.

PS3 does not suck. Its just a bit lacking in good games at this point, imo of course.
Do the research on all three, but my personal preference is as follows.
- 360
- Wii
- PS3
I actually bought my Wii first, but outside of a baseball game, I hardly touch it. I now cannot live without my 360.
I dont have a PS3 yet, but I will one day. Theres no way Im going thru life never playing another Metal Gear or Gran Turismo game. That order I gave is the order I would buy the consoles in if I didnt have any.

MGS4 is still a long way away. Don't buy a machine now for a game that won't be out for months. I'm sure people who bought GameCubes for Zelda could tell you that.
Also, isn't the point of Christmas to buy things for other people?

don't let friends tell you what to do... buy what you like. Its for you... I have 360 and PS3.
The PS3 has good games, doesn't suck and if you got one you'd enjoy it. Especially when Metal Gear comes out... in only a couple of months... Plus if you don't like the PS3 you could always sell it and get an xbox, or Wii.

and hey its to better buy a PS3 for MGS4 (that hasn't come out YET), than buying a 360 for MGS4 (a game that you HOPE comes out for that system).

Let's Play B3YOND FTW!!!
PlayStation 3, since Ratchet & Clank Future rocks. Pretty good variety and fun downloads. Has the best 2008 lineup of games IMO (LittleBigPlanet, White Knight Story, Killzone 2, MGS4, Tekken 6, etc.).

The PS3 isn't worth owning right now, and chances are MGS4 will show up on the 360 in a superior "subsistence" style version.
The Wii is fun but shouldn't be your only system.

I have the 360 and the PS3. If I had to choose one system to enjoy for a year, I'd pick the 360 hands down. Yes, the PS3 has an impressive lineup for '08 but none of these games have more than screenshots or short videos. PS3 supporters keep pointing to the potential of they system and games to come while 360 supporters can just point to Bioshock, Gears of War, and Halo 3 and say the games have already come.

If you like first perfson shooters go with the 360 (since that is all taht they can come up with). If you enjoy free online, mgs4, god of war 3, final fantasy, devil may cry, ratchet and clank, kill zone and blue ray go with the ps3. If you like mindless fun games go with wii.

Evanft can only recommend for Evanft. Thomas can only recommend for Thomas. Just do the research (see: the Wiki suggestion) and make up your own mind. your best bet is either the ps3 or the 360. both systems seem to have alot of the same games aside from the usual exclusives but it really boils down to the type of games you like to which system youre gonna want to own. me personally i finally decided on the ps3 now its just a matter of getting a 60gb one before theyre all sold out.

This is my opinion as well. I don't own a PS3 because there isn't a game I want that isn't also available on the 360. I will probably buy one when MGS4 comes out or another exclusive must have game. Then I will backtrack on Resistance, Heavenly Sword, etc. from the bargain bins. The system is just a medium to play the games. Don't buy a system for the name, raw power, or what your friends say, buy a system that has the most games you want to play. PS2 was the least powerful of the 4 previous generation systems and it won that war handily. Games make the system, not the other way around.

The only reason I'd say go PS3 over the other consoles, is that it might be a bit difficult to find the holy grail of PS3s (the 20 GB with Emotion chip) the longer you wait. I nearly bought one myself, but I couldn't justify spending even that much for something that's just going to collect dust until MGS4 comes out (although Eye of Judgment peaked my interest.)
Either way, it's up to you. For me personally, I'd go 360 over everything else. The amount of games this box has is staggering, and LIVE and all that jazz is incredible.

Xbox 360.
If you're going to buy systems, and you're AT ALL strapped for cash, then you really should buy them in this order:
Xbox 360
Wii
PS3
You're friends are stupid. The PS3 does not suck, it's actually a great system that unfortunately has next to no good games. When MGS4 comes out, this will obviously change. And depending how much you like the Ratchet series, it might be worth your $600 to drop it right there for R&C:F. Personally, I can wait 'til MGS4, and hopefully a price-drop. Some day the PS3 will be worth buying, but for most people, that day is not now. Unless you already have a 360 (and a Wii) and really want a good Blu-Ray player, I highly recommend waiting on it.
The Wii will have Super Mario Galaxy. I fully expect this will be the best game of the year. Right now the Wii selection is a bit strained, but it'll come around, I'm sure. But if you don't have any systems yet... well...
That brings me to the 360, which is quite simply the best console out there right now. Its game selection is hands down the most fantastic of any next-gen console. It's online capabilities are something to be experienced, and quite simply put to shame Sony and Nintendo (Nintendo especially). And it's not just the amazing games out for the 360 now, the huge amount of fantastic titles just around the corner are rather astonishing. If you haven't "jumped in" to the 360, now is definitely the time to do it, before you miss out on even more.
That being said, a word to the wise: buy a warranty. Microsoft has had some problems with the 360's stability. They've done things to rectify the situation: added extra heatsinks to the 360, moved some components around, and upgraded the warranty to three years for this big trouble-error.
I've gone through two 360's already. But it's all been for the better, thanks to my Best Buy warranty I haven't had to wait even a day to replace my 360, I've been reimbursed for the $50 price drop, I got a brand new system with HDMI, newer hardware, a quieter drive. Even though my new system has a new heatsink, which might mean it will last, I honestly hope it dies, because then I'll be able to replace it with whatever latest system is out then.
Knowing all the great experiences I've had with my 360 over the last two years, I sincerly pitty anyone who STILL doesn't have one. As for the Wii, right now, I'm enjoying MP:3 and waiting for Super Mario Galaxy, and with the PS3 I'm waiting even longer for it to finally pick up and get some decent titles... or some titles at all.

Just because a game is multiplatform does not mean it's no good. PS3 has quite a few good games, some are multiplatform, but there are a few that aren't.
360 does have the best game selection at the moment, yes.

Just because a game is multiplatform does not mean it's no good.
When deciding to purchase one console over another, games that are a given on any console are hardly worth considering.
Pointing out that the PS3 has some good multiplatform games is like pointing out its controller has two joysticks, two triggers and several buttons, and that it plugs into the outlet in your wall.
Even if we're talking solely about multiplatform games, you'd have to be crazy to choose Rainbow Six Vegas on PS3 over the fantastic experience that is Xbox Live.

Still, you make it sound like if he got the PS3 he'd have near no good games to play, which is untrue. He'd definitely be set with it until MGS4 if he chose to go that route keeping in mind he does not have a 360 so the mulitplatform games will be something for him to look at even though they are mulitplatform.
I had no problem with R6 on PS3, I believe it was IGN that said something about you not being able to tell you aren't using live because it was done so well on the PS3. Of course that's an exception and I'm sure it's slightly better on the 360 though :-P

The things that a 60 GB box gets you over the 20 are silver trim, wifi, bigger drive and flash readers. Now, the flash readers are basically useless and silver trim is just for show. The wifi is wholly unnecessary and with the money you saved by buying the 20 gig you can put in a bigger (and faster!) drive.

I just had to quote this. I believe I have found some of the dumbest words strung together on the internet.
I personally would get a 360. It has tons of games for it, the online is great. Yeah it is $50 a year, but you get what you pay for. I own all three and think that the 360 has the best library, excluding the backwards compatibility of the PS3 with the PSX and PS2.

I disagree about the wi-fi, then again I need it to get online so it was so worth it for me looking at how much it would cost to get a wireless adapter to get online.
So in other words it's unnecessary for you. Anyone who needs to get online wirelessly, the 60gb is the obvious choice.

I own a PS3 and 360 atm. As much of a Sony fanboy I am, the 360 admittedly has a better selection for the time being. But soon enough, Sony's day will come with releases like MGS4, White Knight Story, Tekken 6, and FFXIII (which is still too far away -_-). I'd definitely recommend picking up both systems down the line...if you've got the moolah, that is.

The PS3 sucks and guess what? After MGS comes out and fails to sell 2 million copies because no one actually owns a PS3 you'll see a 360 port within 6 months.
Do the smart thing, have yourself $50 and buy a system that actually has a library.

I think PS3 has ended the "PS3 doesn't have any games argument" The only thing good about xbox is that its popular... otherwise PS3 is the better deal, has a goo collection of games, and is a more reliable system. As Gamestop... droped that xbox 360 insurance like a bad habit. Plus I'll never know how CAGs can pay for something that's offered for free.[online]

I vote for 360. It's slowly climbing the ladder for my favorite console of all time, the others being SNES and Ps2.
XBOX 360 its the best system ever if ask me.
Puzzle Quest, VF5, Halo 3, Mass Effect (Should be great)
Plus you can get so many great game on the cheap now.

It depends on what you want. Go with 360 if you are into driving and shooting games. The system is pretty much shit for anything else.
PS3 Will have MGS4, Uncharted and some other good stuff.
Its all depending on what types of games you play. Dont listen to the internet just buy and play what you like.

Are you interested in anything else, other than MGS4? If not, I would wait until next year when the game actually comes out. It might be more clear, at that point, whether or not it will be coming to the 360 or not, and all systems will probably be a bit cheaper too.

The 360's problems are well documented. And Microsoft will fix any problems you have with your unit for 3 years. They even send you a 1 month LIVE card to make up for the time you were without your console.
I dont see any Sony owners mentioning the fact that nearly every cross platform game performs and looks worse on the PS3, and some even have features missing when compared to their 360 counterparts. I think Oblivion may be the only game that got better when it went to the ps3.

Being someone that owns all 3 consoles, I would definitly go with the 360, as its really hittings its stride right now with awesome games. THe PS3 offers alot if you also want a Blu-Ray player at $400, the Wii is fun, but not worthy of being your only next gen console... Def LOVE the 360 though

I'd get the 360 now if you want to play games. Get the ps3 later. Either way you're gonna have to get both because of the games on either system.
I got the ps3 specifically for GT5 but there are other good games coming out like HAZE and MGS4.

The PS3 ports look fine to me... Darkness, GRAW 2, Rainbow 6 Vegas, VF5, NBA2k8, GHIII, MGS4(since you all "believe"), they all played well and looked just as good. VF5, and Virtual Tennis - 2 our of them all that were missing online features, and they both were made by Sega.. which was a bad decision that they made. But hey, most people don't like VF5 anyway... but hey.. there's still Tekken Dark Resurrection - that's online... , and we all are getting Street Fighter turbo super HD remix 2 or 3.. blah blah online as well. Point is PS3 is getting their games, they're good, most people here on CAG like 360, doesn't mean that there's something wrong with PS3 games.
"The 360 problems are WELL documented" and you think that this guy should take a chance on them... and have to endure the hardships that most of you guys here on CAG alone had to endure. - he can be another poster on the coffin thread..
misery definitely loves company....
Xbox 360 + wii= a solid buy (I suggest saving a hundred or so more). If you just want one system then just buy the 360. Owning a wii on its own is kind of lame (thankfully I have both). I'm not hating I love my wii it's seriously one of my favorite systems ever, but the lack of good titles kills it's use I seriously haven't used mine in months (thank god some bad ass games are coming out in November). Owning the 360 is just a more practical purchase in term of the shear amount of games out and the quality of those games are great.
I bought my bro a PS3 this summer...I really wasn't all that impressed. It makes one hell of a media hub, but nothing more. We seriously couldn't find a game we wanted to buy for the longest time. Most of it's games you can get on the 360 and it's current line up of exclusives leaves something to be desired. On a side note, once MGS4 hits the market I'll totally be stealing that PS3 for a couple of months!

Whatever you do just don't go with the Wii, I will sell mine in next couple of days on Ebay for some profit and get myself a PS3 instead. I suggest you just to do a little search by yourself and see which kind of games you like for each system.

I think PS3 has ended the "PS3 doesn't have any games argument" The only thing good about xbox is that its popular... otherwise PS3 is the better deal, has a goo collection of games, and is a more reliable system. As Gamestop... droped that xbox 360 insurance like a bad habit. Plus I'll never know how CAGs can pay for something that's offered for free.[online]Show me something as robust as Xbox Live for free and I'll drop Live like a bad habit!
Oh wait, you probably meant Nintendo's or Sony's online play, didn't you? It certainly works, but you get what you pay for. Just need to evaluate if its worth it to you to cough up the money. People talk about it like it's $40/month. It's $50 a year max, and let's be honest, who around here pays MSRP for Live? Hopefully no one.

Man, what kind of games do you like? That's pretty much the easiest way for us to tell you which box to buy.

Exactly, deals on LIVE cards are pretty common. I paid $26.00 for 13 months.

I haven't gotten that lucky, and I won't pay for Live until I do.
My free month ran out and I just don't care to pay for it. Playing online is fun and live is a good service, but I just don't want to pay for it. Any game I do get that I want to play online will be for the PS3, sure you can't invite people to join you from in game (yet), but it's free.

what happens after 13 months, if you can't find another deal.. are you going to pay full price... or rather are you even willing to pay full price for the xbox live service...
the psn network is only as good as the game and how well it incorporates friend list, and invites, its not the network... its how well each game does their online component.

I'd go with the PS3, mostly due to the games. MGS4, Final Fantasy, Eternal Sonata, KH3, etc.
Three of the four games you mentioned arent even out yet. MGS4 wont be out for at least 6 months, and the other games dont even have a release date, which means they are probably a year away or more. Has KH3 even been announced?
That would make a great Christmas present.

Ya know, before I had a 360, I was like 'no effin way Im payin for online'. Im used to playing PC games online for free. I considered people who paid for LIVE to be morons.
Then I got my 360, and a free one month LIVE card. After that month was over, I couldnt wait to get a 12 month card. The two days in between that I didnt have a gold LIVE account were the longest two days of my life.
LIVE is awesome! Its soooo worth the money, and believe me, I never thought I would be saying that.
It comes out to about $4 a month. Thats about .13 cents a day. 13 cents a day for something thats 10x better than any online experience ever offered by the PC, or any gaming console.

I don't have a PS3 yet, myself, and when it makes itself more neccesary to have in my life, I'll eventually get one. Unlike a lot of CAGs here, though, I probably play my Wii more than my 360. The handful of A-list titles on the system really are a lot of fun, and I find myself generally more intrigued by the Wiimote controls than I do playing my 360's usual controller.
But of course the 360 has some good games too. I love Lost Planet, Halo 3, Oblivion, and Viva Pinata. There's a good deal of variety on all three Next-gen systems, so no matter what you choose, I think you'll end up happy. The Playstation 3 is a great way of acquiring a blue-Ray player, and I don't think anyone can deny that the games on the system really do look great.
But my personal suggestion has to be the Wii. It's the only system that I really feel is moving in a different direction, and it's one that I really like.

I never buy a system for future releases or if there isn't at least 3+ titles I am willing to buy at this very moment. That said, Mgs4 is one do you have others? If not then I would hold off on all systems unless you know for certain that there are 3 titles on 360 or wii you would like. Also, I truly believe that Mgs4 will appear on 360 in some form so that might help you if your willing to wait.

If your still looking with your respective 400 dollar budget you might consider grabbing a DS as well. Can't go wrong with the best of both worlds with handhelds and with both you will have more than enough games to last you many years.

I'd go with the PS3, just because it has all the games I like. Warhawk, Eye of Judgement, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, and Resistance. There's also a good selection of downloadable games, but the same also applies to the 360.
The only disadvantage the PS3 has compared to the 360 right now is no access to your inbox or friends list in most games. Sony is working on in game XMB access though, and when that happens they will be equal.
Games on 360 are better than on PS3, but if not for screenshot comparisons there is no way to tell. Developers are probably going to reverse the trend and start development on the PS3 now to prevent issues though.
If possible, get an Arcade 360, and if you really like it you could find a 20GB drive for cheap. When MGS4 rolls around, you should know whether or not it'll be coming to the 360, and if it's not, then try trading it towards a PS3.

Plus you know that 8 months after MGS4 comes out were gonna get 'Metal Gear Solid: Subserviance' or something similar.
yeah, that's why xbox got mgs3 or mgs subsistence...
the ps3 is tight, it just doesn't have the games yet.... soon enough though
I have a Wii (and I love it), I will buy a Ps3 next and one day I will buy a smokin' hot 360 elite... but I will be dead before I ever give microsoft my money!

i want to buy a ps3 cuase im a huge metal gear solid fan and MGS4 will be coming out for the ps3
but all my friends and ppl online say the ps3 sucks :-(
i dont know what to do
thank you all for any help you can give me
I bought a PS3 just for MGS4. I was surprised. The console is MUCH more sleek/better designed than my 360.
I recommend a PS3 if you're an MGS fan.

I have all 3 now and I prefer my 360.
360 has the best online, biggest library AND best games out right now. It'll get new releases faster than the PS3 as well because the PS3 is a bitch to develop for. Example Half Life 2 Orange Box came out last month and isn't out till NEXT month for the PS3.
PS3 read the downfalls above.... Online is free but weak compared to Xbox Live.. It's sleek and sexy and has cool features like blueray but all I care about is games.. There are not a whole lot of exclusives that excite me MGS is about it since Resident Evil and Devil May Cry are both gonna be multi platform. A few more games are dropping though and Ratchet & Clank looks really good and Uncharted looks awesome but that's about it for the rest of the year. That is of course assuming that Unreal Tournament gets pushed back which btw will be PS3 exclusive until a few months later when the 360 version comes out...
Wii is nothing more than a second system in my opinion. It's a nice lil system but it'll always lack a big library of games worth playing compared to the other two options. There is a handful of current release games worth playing and of course Mario Galaxy will be great as well as Mario Kart and Mario Melee next year BUT can you see the pattern forming in those release titles?
Get a 360 and be happy. :D

Maybe a mod should close this thread now?

You can't really compare the three they all look really really nice and all the games is good and all have there own features.
The Wii is basically for anybody who dislike guns and wants to spend all day saying wow I am working out. A Wii is for people who have girlfriends:applause:
The chioces are
Playstation 3 ( which is really SNES4) which is really a Super Nintendo )
Wii ( which is really a GCN ) which is really a Super Nintendo )
360 ( which is really a Genesis ) ...... nothing else really ) god almighty this system is on a deathbed and the X-box was more fun )
The PS3 and Wii can hook to there pocket system ( simular to what a SNES did ) then again what the N64 did )
Thanks for giving me cancer, it's like an early Christmas present in itself.

I love all the PS3 FBs are campaigning for a PS3.
It boils down to this:
PS3: No fucking games. Okay that's a lie, it does have games, but nothing you can do without / get on another system. So unless you're really into Blu-Ray, skip it. Maybe down the road you might want to pick it up, but from now until next holiday season it isn't worth it.
360: Worst systems ever built. Alright, that's another lie, as the failure rate is blown out of proportion. But still, systems break down at a rate much more than PS3 or Wii. Outside of that, it's easily the crown king; excellent online play, tons of exclusives and the widest selection of games between the three next-gen systems. Oh right I forgot, I can't mention that because it was the first one out the gate, and it wouldn't be fair to the competition which had to drop a year later. This is the system to consider if you're a hardcore gamer.
Wii: No fucking games AND it's a stupid kiddy system with crappy graphics that only appeals to those disgusting "casuals". Yep, you guessed it; yet another lie. The Wii has a pretty good library, no where near the 360's, but leaps and bounds over the PS3. Yes, the graphics are downright terrible when compared to 360 and PS3, and yes, it has yet to reach that truly inovating level of game play, but it's still a fun system. That, and you certainly can't beat the price.
To sum it up: Get a Wii, a 360, a Wii60 or save up for next year and maybe get a PS3. Unless you're a BRD nut (then again, if that was the case, you would already have a PS3 and this would be a moot point).

The hell?
If you really want to compare past systems to current ones: The PS3 is this generations Xbox, the 360 is this gens PS2 and Wii, is kinda like a combination of the Dreamcast and Gamecube, with the insane popularity of PS2.

As a 3 console owner I would rank them as follows:
X360
PS3
Wii
I feel the Wii is a very distant third in that the games tho fun seem very disposable. I often only play Wii purchases for a week or two and then shelf them for a while. Another strike against the Wii for me is its weak online formula and the fact that about 80% of the games you should even think of buying will be made by Nintendo as alot of the third party offerings lack the polish of the first party titles. The 360 benefits from a more extensive library but if fps style games aren't for you you might find the system to be a little lacking in the exclusive department. Online play is another thing that makes the 360 my personal favorite, live is such a selling point that 90% of multiplatform purchases become 360 purchases. The Ps3 is building steam and will likely begin to loose its negative stigma the last 10 months or so of lackluster games have given the system. As the hits start rolling in we are in for an interesting race.
At the end of it all really every system is worth owning and it's all your call but I personally would hate to be stuck with just a Wii so far in this gen. Wii is a great second system but I would never suggest some one get it as there first current gen system.

It is the worst system ever built when even GS won't sell their PRP anymore for them.
The 360 is fun though, I like it waaay better than the original Xbox.
In any case, he chose the PSP so this thread should be locked or something, no?
