If you don't have the best setup for a projector, I think you should go with a 1080p HDTV since well that's about all I see being sold now.

If you are looking for an HDTV for your PS3, you should look at something 1080p. Some of the Samsung LCD's are nice...mine is a year old and does 1080i only, but it looks great for the 360.

If you're looking for something 40" or over then yeah, a 1080 is probably best, but under that size a 720 will be just fine and you'll have a lot more options. I just picked up a Samsung 32" LNT3253H from Amazon (no tax, no shipping) for just over $800 and absolutely love it. The PS3 hooked up through HDMI looks amazing. The TV comes with 3 HDMI hookups so that's a nice little bonus as well.

if you pay over 700 for a 720p you are getting ripped off hard, the tv ive been looking at was the 1080 p , 56 inch DLP by samsung with a LED engine for 1699 at amazon, free delivery and hookup, dont have to worry about replacing a lamp every 2 years or so because they use a LED engine

downside is that DLP'S are thick so youll need a tv stand

if you're looking for something slim, I personally think the $1979 46 INCH SONY LCD is your best bet

itd be lower priced at amazon and free delivery set up etc

1080p isn't necessary at all unless you're getting a big TV. If you're getting something under 40 inches, there's no reason to get a 1080p TV. Even if you're getting one over 40 inches it's not necessary, it's just a bit of an improvement. I'm certainly not a videophile, but I think that my 720p/1080i 42" LCD that looks amazing with my PS3.

Yup, totally gonna echo what other have said: you don't need a 1080p set if you're looking at something under 40".

Westinghouse makes a very nice 32" 720p set, which I think goes for around $600, now (I betcha it'll be about $300-$400 on black friday). Vizio also makes some surprisingly decent sets for what you pay for, and I think they have a 37" for about $700. (That's just going off of what I remember from visiting Sam's Club a while back, though.)

No not true at all you would need to worry about response time anything under 8ms will do the job. However if you want less the 40" and have a budget up to 2k you can get a killer TV. Sharp, JVC, and Samsung have 120hz out now, save some cash and get a 720p set because under 40" you don't need it and would not see a difference in picture quilty. You will see more of a difference with 120hz than with 1080p at that size.
