Yeah, that was freaky. I hesitated a bit also, thinking, "Is that an earthquake?" and then it got a lot stronger and ran to a doorway... instead of going underneath the desk I was sitting at. A lot of good all those duck & cover drills in elementary school did me.

I've been dreading the day the big one came and I thought that this was it. Then I completely froze.
I'm right near the alum rock hills.

I was in the bathroom. I was running towards the door as well with my pants down.

Yep, I felt it. Funny thing is that before I ran out of my room, I felt it was important to pause the music I was listening to. Thank heavens it wasn't bigger, I feel like a moron now.

I felt it. I too thought it was going to be the big one. California is way overdue
for a major earthquake, it can happen any day now...

I felt it in Stockton. I thought I had gotten dizzy until I noticed some water swaying back and forth in a glass next to me. I figured it was either an earthquake or a T-Rex was outside my window.

Felt it in Pleasanton. I thought that the mealworms that I feed my gecko were making noises, but then I felt the back-and-forth motion of the earthquake. I paused the movie that I was watching and got into my doorway.
On that note, don't bother watching 28 Weeks Later, it is a terrible film.

does staying under a doorway even do anything?

the doorway is a suitable place to stand to gain/get your balance and to prevent anything from falling on your head.
from what i remember, houses are coded to endure pretty big earthquakes. so don't worry about your house falling apart.
but your best bet is to go outside and stay away from anything that could fall on you [ light posts, trees, etc ].

Apparently it was felt as far away as Los Banos where my house is because my girl called and asked if I felt it not realizing I was in my car driving. LB is roughly 70 miles from San Jose.

Thats where my other place is. I'm surprised it reached all the way out in Stockton.
I felt it in Alameda, not a big deal. I would have just thought a big truck drove by if it didn't last so long. Apparently since it wasn't the Hayward fault we don't have much to worry about. There is a 72 hour alert for aftershocks though, so we still could be shaken up a bit.
Theres a whole bunch of tiny ones still happening within the past hour

Oh that's good. I'm not going insane now, every creak/noise I hear really is some movement. xD

I didn't remember to move either lol. I was sittin in class and just kinda sat there for a second while I saw everybody scramble to get under the desks. After a couple seconds it finally hit me that maybe I should get under there too. I didn't think it was that strong, but after most of the aftershocks were over I saw the projector screen swayin left and right pretty good.
After everything was over all I could think of was "I hope my HDTV is ok" lol

Yeah, I live in San Jose too, right next to Del Mar High/ Bascom Ave. It was pretty big, put it only knocked a bottle of lotion down in the living room. My uncle in Sacramento felt it, so I guess it was a pretty gnarley one, if it reached 4 hours away from here. It was a 5.6, and htye said there's chances of there being an even bigger one in the next 72 hours. Yaaayyy.
Also, is this really in the right section?

Maybe I'm freaking out but I haven't slept a wink but I am really tired. I'm afraid of stuff really falling on me while I sleep. I have a bunk bed and I sleep on the bottom while all my accumulating junk is on top. That's gonna have to change now...
Lastly, I'm afraid the big one is right around the corner now.

 San Jose and Sac are not 4 hours apart. You could almost get to Tahoe in 4 hours. I would say more like 2 hours. If your uncle in Sac felt it, then he just barely felt it cause thats kind of a stretch from where it hit if you look at the map here

You guys in the South Bay be safe the next couple days, even in the past hour there was a couple tiny ones. You'd probably have to be in the right place at the right time to feel'em, but all news is reporting a 72 hour alert.

I live about 20 min away from Alum Rock and it scared the shit out of me. As soon as my room started to shake, i bolted out of my house and stood outside til it stopped.

I was at home in Daly City, and I felt it pretty good. Me and my roommate were sitting, and then we felt our apartment actually move.

As soon as we felt it we headed out, then took like a minute to get the damn door open. Pretty freaky. I also read the last there was a similar magnitude before the big one hit. I'll be on my toes for a few months...

I was in organic chem lecture. Our professor didn't even feel it, even though the whole building was shaking. He just kept lecturing until he realized that some of the kids had panicked looks on their faces. Then he stopped, cracked a couple jokes, then went along with lecture. Pretty cool little diversion, though.

Did anyone just feel that 3.7 one? I thought it might have been a truck passing by, since no one at my office felt it (I'm working from home today). But some friends in Fremont felt it:

Yea, I felt it too. Luckly, it only lasted about 5-10 seconds cause I was ready to run out of my house again.

Haha yeah, I just realized my mistake. It's 2 hours away, but whenever I go I make a round trip so it's 4 hours. Whoops.
