So I go to CC today to get the Simpsons Game on ps3. Mind you, I only went there cuz I got one of their stupid cards from when I bought a slim psp a month ago, so I figured Id save myself a few bucks.
I called at 1:30 to ask if they had it for ps3, after being on hold for 15 minutes, the guy, Darren, said "yeah we have it, and we have the homerball, about 25 of them left" so I politely said okay, I will be there shortly.
I go there and get there at about 2. I find the guy "darren", and he says he has to go back to the warehouse to find the game. I stand there puzzled. I kid you not, twenty minutes later he comes back and says "turns out we didn't get it in today, we won't get our shipment in until at least friday"
WAIT WHAT!? I stand there with such a pissed off face I stormed out.
I drove 1 / 10th of a mile to BB, Picked up Simpsons, Timeshift + A free cd (A band called Cinder Road, AMAZING BAND), and the clerk was nice enough after I told him the bs that is CC, he gave me two free homerballs :)
WOOT!

Is it awesome? (the game)
Cool you got 2 homer balls. Everytime I go to CC it's almost deserted, makes sense.

Ummmm....wasn't the Simpsons game one of those ones that was marked 'in stores weds by 2 pm'?
If so, then you missed out on a chance to get a $20 gift card for your time and aggravation OP, like I snagged for asking for Tony Hawks Proving Ground for Wii 2 weeks ago.
The ad may not say 'guaranteed to be in stock, yadda yadda', but I got em to gimme the gc anyway.

Why does Circuit City only get 2 copies of every new release?!? It's the same for games, cds, and dvds. They sell their only 2 copies within 5 minutes of opening and make no money the rest of the week. What kind of business model is that?!?

Haven't you heard the slogan for the new store design?
Everything's shitty at The City

Join the club man.
I went in there a few minutes ago to pick up a CD that came out this week (Thursday ftw). Anyway, they had absolutely zero copies of it, and it came out yesterday. No shelf display. No signage. No nothing.
I went over to Best Buy and had it within 5 minutes.

Oh man, I had a similar expierence trying to get Hellgate: London for the PC today. I walk in, ask an employee if they had it (it wasn't on the shelf), and he was like, well, if its not on the shelf, we don't have it. I went on to say that it was new, coming out today, and their ad agrees, and he refused to check the back for me. So I go up to customer service and ask, the guy says he'll be right back, and comes back in 10 minutes empty handed. He said he didn't have it. So i asked if I got a gift card, then I showed him the ad that said it would be there wednesday, and he played dumb. "Oh, we've never had a policy like that", he told me. It was so obvious that he was fucking with me. So I told him that if they don't have it tomorrow, i'm bringing proof that he will have to give me a gift card. The guy was a fucking manager, how does he not know of his ongoing policies?!

It's just a cheap ploy to get people into the store. They'll advertise a great price in the Sunday paper on a new release but only stock 3 or 4 copies. They probably think you'll just buy something else if the item you came there to buy is sold out. My CC does it all the time too.

this is why I take the ad and PM at BB. 98% of the time they NEVER call CC to see if they have it in stock.
BB is closer to me too, so I save gas, time and money.

Because they're told by the higher ups to stonewall you however they can, typical tactic of theirs. I wouldn't expect anything less from them, actually.
The one manager tried saying they 'had had' copies of a game I was trying to get the gc on, but sold them, yet another manager looked in their point of sale/inventory system and verified that they didn't get it in.
Also, look on the walls around the customer service desk, since many stores have the $20 gc policy in black & white on either a print up or an actual hard copy sign.
I know they used to have it on their site someplace, but I never favorite placed it and can't find it now.

Perhaps it's just my CC, but at the one I go to, none of the employees ever greet me, or even ask if I need any help. Whenever I want a game out of a case, no one's there and I have to go out of my way to find someone. What a bunch fucking unhelpful pricks.
Quite different from Best Buy, where there's always someone who greets you at the door, and employees in every department waiting to help you.

LOL Well, the one BB last night(where I snagged 2 Pokemon Battle Revolution and 2 Gameshark code guides)will probably be barren for me anymore, unless there's different people working. I took both copies of each guide I found to the register, bluntly saying I saw them on the website for .01 a couple days ago and wanted to see if they're the same price in store.
Well, the one manager type comes over, stares at me like 'damned ebayers' and just kinda laughs at me making small talk while I joke about not knowing if I have the right change for my total or not. LOL
So, maybe you are known as a 'devil customer' at your local CC?

What's worse are the great prices they advertise and then slap up a sign at the front door indicating which ones are errors. It never fails, there are always at least two each week. And they're typically reasonable sales too--enough that someone would believe them and go to the store.
It's criminal.
