Kind of hard to describe, but if you set up a SG, dispenser, and some entry/exit ports to help block spies, then your little camp should be impenetrable.

Hmmm not quite sure where you mean. Also you can block spies by using entry/exit ports?

Well you can slow them down. In the area I'm talking about, there shouldn't be a need for anybody on your team to be running through your camp (if you build your dispenser on the ledge infront of you). So if you see someone frantically trying to jump over your ports to get to you (if you build them on stairs they can't just walk over them, they have to jump), good chance it's a spy.

Got it! Thanks for the tips. Took a few games but once I got the setup down it went pretty smoothly.


I was stuck at 9 kills and I was really worried that we were going to CAP for the third time to end the game when our scout came running up the stairs with the Intel and I took out everyone who was blindly chasing him. Ended the game with 13 SG kills.

People don't play Rank matches because the host leaves when they are losing. That why I don't bother with Rank matches.

I'm a 360 noob and have minimal shooter experience (especially online), but the few times I've played TF2 I really like it (I generally play Engineer, since you're not called on to directly confront the enemy as much and you can kind of do your own thing to support the team).

I'd love to play with some CAGs, try out some of the other classes, maybe earn some of the achievements.

You have to constantly refresh, and only look in the Player matches. No one ever plays ranked for some reason (mostly because the host just quits if they're losing).

I just got this game yesterday, it is pretty damn fun. I'll throw a quick question out there...the medic's single fire gun, does that heal teammates or hurt enemies? I figured out that the big Ghostbusters style gun is for healing but I couldn't decipher what the other one was for.

The Ghostbusters gun heals the teammate you fire it on and keep it held down on. Hold it down long enough and you can go uber.

The other gun hurts enemies.

Sometimes as sniper I can just dismantle engineer setups and entrenched demomen, but sometimes I'm just no good as sniper.. lol.

Dunno if this is the place to ask, but has there been a radical change in the Sniper or Engineer class since TFC? I know I have some achievements from using system link option, but that doesn't help when battling others...

That was fun, but I think I was having connection issues, I couldn't touch anyone during that last match... and the Sentries were getting on my nerves. They remind me too much of campers and that's my #1 peeve about online gaming.

At least I got the stupid 7 friend achievement, now I can boost the rest easily.

Oh, TFC or Team Fortress Classic was the in-pack (right wording, I dunno) game with the original Half-Life waaaaaaaay back in the day on the PC. Even when CS (Counter Strike) was out, I would play TFC over that any day.

That was a lot of fun. I rarely play multiplayer FPS's because I'm too intimidated, but I find TF2 very approachable, and it's even moreso when playing with CAGs. I actually felt like I was contributing toward the end there. There was one awesome round in particular when we had less than 30 seconds left and three of us bum-rushed the final capture point for the win. Whoever was playing the spy made my life miserable. ;)

ChickenBoyBrian's mic appeared to be malfunctioning or something toward the end, as I was getting nonstop static from him and had to turn my headset down. Sorry if I wasn't very communicative!

Its $20 at most places new, and used could be even cheaper... Its not as good as the Steam version, but darn if it isnt still a blast.

some good games there. I think next time we should just do attack/defend rather than control points or territories. Tybee was better than he claimed. and nnthomas, camping is expected in this game especially for engies, snipers, and spies. TF2 is not a typical shooter where everyone is the same. this is a class based game so teamwork is needed in order to meet the objective. next time we have to balance out the teams more. input by others would be nice

whiskey and hurricane (Coper3000 and The Truth 34 on CAG respectively) were really good from what I've seen. the last game in particular when people were dropping off and hurricane had to switch to the other side to make it 2 v 2.

we had 13 on the list (12 excluding myself) and I think 9 of us made it to the CAG room at one time or another.

I realized foltzie's gt was wrong when I got a fr from "foltzie1". I did however joined a game that he was in later by chance. that game was horrible though since the connection was eh and I kept getting kicked and teams kept switiching up.

I also saw dkreegz515 on playing TF2 and sent me a party invite. however, I wasn't able to join his game.

so all in all 9 of 13 were playing TF2 together while 11 of 13 were on TF2. the 2 no shows were Janaak and screwkick.

I'm thinking of switching the game night to Monday maybe 10:30 (EST) this time, how's that for everyone? I'll start up a list after this. also please list you general location so we can determine who's best suitable for hosting (and if you can host 16)

I enjoyed the TF2 night as well. I had some good nights back in the day playing with CAGs and this was more of the same. Someone did have a screwed up mic near the end which made it difficult to communicate on my team.

I think the game really thrives with large teams and good communication so if we can get a consistent group of people that communicate well I'd love to keep playing each week.

Also if anyone wants to get together to knock out the other achievements sometime, let me know.

basically all of the TF2 achievements (except the friend's one) can be done locally. just set up a system link match and wait it out (1 vs 0 players) or get extra controllers.

TF2's achievements I rather get while playing.

You can just set up a system link game with no opponents and play as each class to get that achievement out of the way. You can actually do all of the achievements that do not involve getting kills this way.

Yep! That was fun. I've been playing a lot this week, trying to unlock the achievements through actual play, rather than boosting. I've gotten pretty comfortable with all the classes, though I'm terrible as the sniper. The opposing team's sniper just picks me off again and again. May have to boost that head shot achievement. ;)

And the reason I like TF2 is precisely BECAUSE it's not Halo-ey. Although I hate when I get into hacked games and people are flying around, jumping unaffected by gravity, using force lighting, unlimited ammo, invulnerability...bleh. What's the point? Congratulations, you broke the game!

played some TF2 yesterday. there was an "update" waiting, researched it and heard about the crap it fixes/adds.

I had horrible lag in most of the rooms I was in. I never had that much lag or at that high level of it before hand. It might be lag, but I believe there were some lagswitchers around. For example, I tried to backstab a heavy or soldier only to have everything freeze. I kept trying to backstab since I thought I was lagging. Next thing I knew, game resumed, got a backstab, oh and got backstabed myself immediately. There are also some points where I got stuck in place. I could fire and turn but not move or jump. Oh and class limits are gay. Seriously there is no indication of what is limited or when it changes. The host basically has control.

After playing this game religiously and dabbling in TF2 Clans for close to a year, then taking a break for several months...somehow Valve made the game worse.

Why oh WHY won't it tell me what kind of class limits there are in a server before I join?

If there's a way I can filter, please let me know.

This update has ruined TF2 on the Xbox 360 for me. My gold subscription ran out a few months back and I haven't been playing TF2 since. I created a new account and got a free month, so I decided to play some TF2. Now, I am getting stuck in gimmick games such as engineers vs spies which are simply not fun for me. Even in regular games, I am getting stuck with limits on my favorite classes such as only one spy allowed. Its horrible when the one spy on your team is useless, there are no medics, and the other team has 3 engineers.

They haven't given us a good class update since launch and when they finally do give us an update, its something like this which ruins the game. With this and L4D2, my love of Valve has really gone down.

And, I don't like some of the PC updates either like this recent changes to the teleporter.
