After playing about 2 hours of COD4 this morning. I turned off my 360 and still heard a feint whine. The sound seems to be coming from my power brink, but I can't get to it, as it's behind my entertainment center.
All other devices are off- does the adapter have to have a fan too? Maybe the 360 is the cause of global warming.

Yes the power brick does have a fan in it . Check the holes for dust accumulation .I had to clean mine twice so far .

Yes.
And the 360 probably accounts for half of my carbon footprint. My computer is pretty goddamn green, and my TV and monitors are Energy star certified though, so I say that makes up for it.

The power supply has a fan in it? I didn't know that - I can't find any disassembled pics of it showing the fan - anybody have a link? The whine could have to do with a faulty/leaky capacitor...

You can feel the air being blown out of the power brick while the 360 is on.
You can also hear the fan if you lean in and listen closely.
I have never seen pictures online of anyone dissasembling the power brick. Seems like a pretty stupid endeavour, to me, but I am honestly suprised nobody has done it yet (I have seen someone hack an ATX power supply to run his 360 on after bricking his power... brick)

Oh yeah - I can hear it now that I powered on my system. I don't think it's really a "stupid endeavor" to disassemble it but personally I wouldn't really have any reason to do it though. I have disassembled a couple of atx power supplies to replace the fans - one quit working and one I just wanted to put a quieter fan in.

Well sometimes I treat the phrase "stupid endeavor" and "pointless endeavor" as interchangeable. ;)

The power brick contains a small fan and about 12 ounces of yellowcake uranium.

I think it has 2 fans if you put your hands on the side where the small vent holes are you will feel air come out
