View Full Version : Fry's (Seattle + other locations) - Assassin's Creed - $39.99

As long as you have a Fry's close by you don't even need a copy of the add, just go to buy it at you store of choice (they must have a PM policy) and say "fry's is selling it for $39.99, can you please PM." The manager will come over and call the closest fry's to verify, once verifyed they will PM...
I have never had an issue getting people to PM when its a legit PM (this is legit for me, Fry's 15miles away is selling them for $39.99)... thats not to say there have not been some YMMV PM situations but a genuine PM I've never had a problem.
Yeah if they call and verify it shouldn't be a problem. However sometimes it's hard to get someone to answer on the other side. I remember once that the guy was calling and nobody picked up so he gave me the deal anyways.

Just thought I'd report that I was able to price match the Fry's ad at the Kildeer, IL Best Buy this morning. I simply brought in a copy of this Sunday's ad, girl at the counter looked it over, then punched in the price no problem. I even got to use a $5 Reward Zone certificate so I got the game for just $35.

Was able to pricematch at BB this morning no problem (Atlanta, GA, in Smyrna). I went in before 11am to get double-reward points and will pick it up today at 2pm.
If anyone in Atlanta needs a copy of the ad, I'm willing to donate mine if you pick it up. Just PM me.

Before you hand out the actual AD to PM to any local competitors, just tell them that Frys got in stock today instead of Thursday evening and also if anyone carry AMEX CC then you should be able to explain why Frys won't accept AMEX CC anymore. :(

Do you pricematch at customer service or at the check-out? I'm assuming the latter. I'm not that much interested in the 10% off, Fry's is simply a hassle to get around (and if it ends up being like GRAW2, they'll only have five copies of the game on hand).

You PM at check-out, however, they will PM 100% of the difference. If you want 110% you have to go to customer service.

Well I just went ahead and went to the store with the ad in hand (without doing the whole instore pickup.)
However, when i went to check out the cashier i had didn't know how to do pricematches in the system. The older b*&$# cashier next to her said I couldn't do it because the ad stated "thursday" blah blah blah and that they already turned away a few customers earlier that day with the same ad. I tried to argue with her saying that I called Fry's and they told me that they got the shipment early. She said it didn't matter because it said "available thursday."
One of the girls took the ad to the manager and came back. She then gave me the PM. I was real close to telling off that other lady or something, but she wasn't worth my time. Does she really care about one customer (or a few) saving $20? I should have asked anybody in line behind me if they were also picking up Assassin's Creed and let them use my ad.
Oh btw, 2 guys came in with the actual TRU Super Mario Galaxy with $25 GC and tried to PM that. They wouldn't let them do it. And by 'they' i mean that mean old b(&@##.

I tried using the 15% coupon at TRU and the cashier was about to scan it but then some other worker was walking by and said, "you can't use copied coupons" i guess the jackass worked there longer than the cashier so the cashier said i'm sorry cant do. PM'd at the BestBuy in Roseville, CA...no problemo. That was after getting crap from the BB out in the Natomas area of Sacramento earlier today. The girl said they'd have to call Fry's which I guess they did, came back to the counter and said I could come back tomorrow and PM it then since the ad said Thursday. I told her I'd just take my business elsewhere.

I live in the Boulder, CO.
I just payed $40 (+tax) for AC at my local walmart.
The closest Fry's, I think is in Las Vegas.
I used a scan of the Boston Chronicle (lol) version of this ad.
I would totally scan my Walmart receipt if I had a scanner for all of those with no Fry's nearby (I don't think there's one within 1000 miles of me), but alas, I havce no scanner.
Here's the convo:
Me: "Hey, did you guys get in any Assassin's Creed copies yet?"
Dude with tattoos covering arms: "Yeah, 360 or PS3"
Me: "PS3. 2nd question - do you do pricematching?"
DwTCA: "Yeah if it's a printed ad."
Me: *Gives copy of ad* "It's from Fry's Electronics." :-#
DwTCA: "Um, we don't normally do this for something off the computer, but...I don't really care. So I guess I'll..."
Cashier next to him: *stares at DwTCA* :-&
Me: "You'll make my day?"
DwTCA: "Why not?" :hot::hot::hot:
Moral of the story? Find the right cashier, and anything's possible. Also, don't call ahead of time. Just put a concerned look on your face, and exercise some negotiating skills (I was prepared to 'threaten' them with buying at a loval shop over a cooporate empire, had they not done this for me).

Went to the Best Buy in Milpitas. No go on the pricematch. Well I guess it would depend on the cashier. I asked a few of the floor employees and they said yes even when I told them Frys would have it on Thursday. But the cashier said no. :( I have to wait until tomorrow. They allow printouts. So I can always bring that instead of my newspaper. I picked up a copy of the 360 and will see if they pricematch tomrorow. They better not give me crap if they call and Fry's says they sold out

my friend tried best buy in milpitas and circuit city in eastridge and they wouldn't do it for him cuz the ad said thursday. Stores are funny. It's like they don't believe it will arrive...
Oh well hopefully I can get it tomorrow @ BB when I go into Santana Row for in store pickup. I used my $5 RZ Certificate online so they better friggin pricematch or else I'm out of a Certificate (that I spent 2 years buyin shit from them to get). And they'd better take the pricematch from the original 59.99 price and not the 54.99 after the certificate, cuz then I would've just been better off pricematching on the spot and then using the certificate.

dang i thought i would be ahead of the game if i ordered online and chose in store pickup. I was thinknig since I'd already bought it, they would pricematch 110% of the difference. After some browsin on the best buy site though, they apparently have two different price matching policies one for online and one for in store. Though to be technical, the online price matching policy doesn't say anything about if in store pickup was chosen.
It was my assumption that choosing in store pickup would virtually be the same as walking in to the store and picking it right off the shelf.
Oh well guess we'll see when I go pick it up tomorrow lol

Well I bought the game afterall (Penny Arcade post helped me decide). I pricematched the Fry's Electronics deal at the Best Buy in El Segundo, CA. It's a fairly new store and literally a couple blocks from the Fry's on the corner of Rosecrans & Sepulveda. I handed the sales clerk two printouts, one which was the entire Sunday ad on one page (from LA Times site), and the other was zoomed into the top portion (from pdf on OC Register site). She looked at both printouts briefly and issued the pricematch. :)
I originally had planned to go to the Best Buy in Hawthorne, which is also pretty close to the same Fry's store. I figured that one would be a good choice as well since I pricematched the CC MS Point deal at the same store a few months ago.

They said that they will not put out copies of the game until 5pm. I was planning to pick up a copy after my classes, but now it looks like I'll have to trudge there through rush hour. In all honesty I think they'll put it on the shelves much earlier, I'm going to have to give them a call.

To be expected. I don't get the Republic and my dad already threw out his copy of the Sunday, but regardless I'll call tomorrow and see what time they'll be putting it out. If I don't get an answer, I'll be there at 5 (as the above poster suggested) with my fingers crossed. Just an FYI. I have seen MOST of the Friday ad (16 Nov) for the Seattle locations (our Friday ads are 4 pages - I have seen 3 of the 4).
The primary game section was included with what I have seen. This is what is listed on sale Friday in SEATTLE (please note, NO DEALS worth taking advantage of):
PS3 and/or X360
Call of Duty 4 (PS3/X360) - 59.99
Need for Speed Pro Street (PS3/X360) - 59.99
Smackdown vs Raw (PS3/X360) - 59.99
BlackSite: Area 51 (X360) - 59.99
NBA Live 08 (PS3/X360) - 44.99
Kane & Lynch Dead Men (PS3/X360) - 59.99
PSP
Metal Gear Solid Port Ops (PSP) - 17.99
Wii
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - 49.99
Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles (Wii) - 44.99
PC
Everquest Secrets of Faydwer (PC) - 39.99
Sim City Societies (PC) - 39.99
Crysis (PC) - 39.99
DVDs
Six Feet Under Box Sets - Seasons 1-5 - 16.99/each
Gilmore Girls Box Sets - Seasons 1, 2, 4 - 16.99/each
30 BlueRay Discs on Sale - Buy One, Get One Free (specific selection, mostly scifi/fantasy/horror, not all listed in ad)
Hardware
Wii, with charge station and Mario&Sonic - 329.97
As you can see, unless AC is included on the front bumper page that I have NOT seen, then AC is NOT on sale IN SEATTLE this Friday. SO MAKE SURE TO GRAB YOUR COPY TOMORROW TO BE SAFE.
Note: although most of the ads are the same across stores, there are sometimes significant variances, so games may appear on sale at one store but not at others, so YMMV.

Not to go on a tangent, but I picked up a copy of the game yesterday afternoon (and I'll return my free copy when it arrives next week). Put in about four or five hours. Yes, you are doing similar things again and again. But the core gameplay is very fun IMO, the story has got me, and the graphics are among the most stunning I've ever seen in any videogame.
Well worth the price I'm paying ($0), but easily a steal at $39 as well--best of luck to those trying to pick this up :)

I went to the Downers Grove (Chicago suburb) Fry's last night and they didn't have it on the shelf; I then went across the street to BB and price matched with no issue at all. This is the first I've heard of Fry's holding a game until a certain time. Typically when they get it in they sell it. I guess they've decided to hold it and create a crowd of angry people that may or may not get the game. Enjoy! This is how the holiday shopping season will generally go from here.

Price match worked in Milpitas, CA. I walked in intending to get it price matched and they told me that they matching Fry's price before I even told 'em that I wanted a copy. A win there. I then had read on here that they were matching TRU gift card on Mario Galaxy. I had them ring up the Mario Galaxy first and received the gift card. I then had them ring up the Assassin's Creed and they matched it to Fry's. I also had a reward zone certificate for $20. I used the Gift Card and RZ certicate on Assassin's Creed. I walked out of BB with Mario Galaxy and Assassin's Creed for $53.xx out of pocket!!

Stopped by Fry's in Palo Alto, CA and they didn't have them out.
I ended up going to Best Buy in East Palo Alto with the printed LA Frys ad. The cashier girl was really nice and said, "yes, of course we pricematch Frys". At that point, I was like... score... i have a $10 RZC too. However, she called for a manager override and that's when the deal went sour.
She told me they aren't pricematching until 6PM, when Frys sells their copies. I thought that was ridiculous and left with no fuss. That manager's turned me down numerous times for deals I find here. I tried to scope out the store before going up to the cashier but I didn't see her.
I pretty much gave up at that point because there is no Frys closer to San Francisco, and I leave work around 4PM. I doubt stores in SF actually pricematch Frys stores.
While I pulled out of my space, I realized that I forgot there's a Circuit City two stores down! Went in there, customer service called Fry's, confirmed the price and sold it to me. Sweet deal

Had printout of AD from this site in black/white PM'd at BBY in Arizona at the Surprise store with no problem even though the ad showed the LA area they never looked at that.. Went to the cutomer assistance area. Game was put away and I had to ask for it. She already new about the Frys price and gave it to me with no hassle. Also used a $20 Reward Zone coupon I had. I was at the Fountain Valley store earlier. I didn't even know they were doing a 5:00pm release when I got there at 4:45. Everyone was lining up and and they split the line by system. Most people there were getting the PS3 version. I jumped into the 360 line was 3rd in line. They handed out the copies and they were "sold out" within 10 minutes. I don't think they sold out but I believe they are hiding them in the back until they can jack up the price. I would consider this a huge release and for them to only have 20 copies for each system is a joke. I guess the only thing people can do is PM now.

I went around lunch I saw at least 10 people waiting for it alerady, all of them where told to comeback at 6:00 or to go to the BestBuy next door, I did and the bastards told me that no proce match but until 6 and that they will be calling the Frys and that they will be honoring the offer as long as they have stock.
So I call bullshit in them both print the ad from the Dallas Morning News and went to the Walmart Next Door I got it with no problem from their Electronicx department no calls no bull, all they want is a printed add for proof.

It'll get credited back to my RZ account within a week but I was lookin forward to using it on AssCreed :( It expires february of next year so I'll have to find some other good deals to use it on.
Ended up goin to Milpitas BB to do a straight pricematch (they wouldn't let me take it to the cashier, they said they'd bring it up to customer service for me lol). They had tons of copies of the game for PS3, dunno about 360. Oh well 40 more points in my RZ account I guess

I went to Best Buy (Stevens Creek) and they wouldn't price match until 6. So I headed over to Circuit City (Eastridge) after and they allowed the price match. Purchased 360 and PS3 version. 360 version is for my brother.
My friend wanted to play it after hearing how much I was into it. So he headed over to Fry's (Brokaw) and they were sold out before 6pm. So he went to Best Buy (Milpitas) and they wouldn't let him price match at first. I gave him the ad before he went but they said the game had to be in stock. After a few minutes of trying to price match, he said "Ugh, forget it, how do I get to Circuit City from here?" The supervisor overheard and just allowed the price match. Guess they didn't want him to go to CC. lol.

Here is one for everyone to chew on....
Went to CC on Bellaire, Houston to PM Assassin's Creed today, but the customer service lady insist that they only accept original ad or a computer "print-out". She then went ahead and declare that my OC pdf "print-out" was a xerox copy. I tried to explain to her that this is a computer print-out of a large ad, but I couldn't talk any sense into her at all. It seems she already made up her mind about my sheet of paper and it didn't seem like she wanted my business at all.
So I left and went to BB near by and they happily PM from the printed ad without any hesitation.
I got the last copy of PS3 version from their display. They had plenty of 360 version on there.
Makes you wonder how CC stays in business at all with this kind of service....

I hope they'll have it by tomorrow morning! I already bought the last copy of AC (PS3) last morning at BB. I spent $25 GC after purchasing SMG with TRU AD and paid the remaining balance. Hopefully I'll go back to BB tomorrow morning to get it PM, since Frys is very close to BB in Burbank, CA. What I should do is call Frys to check if they have AC availability. If they said yes then I'll call BB if they can PM Frys for $39.99. While I'm heading to BB, CS will contact Frys before I come in and PM quick and be done by minute! Luckily, I'll be saving $51 cuz you know the deal right? Here's the breakdown: $25 GC+$20 AD+$6 PM = $51. If AC is $60 then I only pay $9 less for all that simple price work! ;)

I love that frys. They had 60 copies for each system. I thought I was going to miss out but sure enough a quick phone call before my test at 5:13 and one very sweet lady later I had myself a copy of AC. Problem was she went on break when i got to the store and no one knew of a hold for it. Thank god I was smart enough to ask them to search to see if they had a copy floating in their computer. Sure enough one was flying around. Software manager called up the nice lady on her break and moments later I had a copy of AC in my hands and I was on my way to knowing the ways of the assassins.
Oh and i have to add that despite the polar reviews about the game its one hell of a fresh take at a video game.

Just a quick note. Did a successful PM for both AC and SMG ($25 gift card) at BB in Northgate Mall in Seattle, WA. If you do both, have them ring up SMG first and separately, then use the gift card towards AC in a separate purchase. Worked fine for me. Today's AD was still effective for $39.99 as promised! Plus they can accept Raincheck but I have to be there to pickup Raincheck but I rather not go there because I wanted to PM at BB. Instead of going to Frys, I'll stop by BB around 4:30pm and get it PM at 5pm to be exact. Fingercrossed ;)

Went to the Renton Frys, drove up from Tacoma in some nasty weather. Got there at 6:15 to find out they were oos. I saw one guy with 3 copies in his hand. I was so mad I yelled at him, and told him he was an asshole for being such a pig. Later while I was at the bathroom waiting for my wife I saw an employee walk by with 2. I caught him, and the guy that had 3 was denied at the cash register so my friend and I got the last 2.

I just got the price match at a Best Buy in GA with a printout of the ad from the mercurynews website. Since I bought the game the other day and came back today with the ad in hand I got an extra 10% off.
If they don't honor the printout make sure you have the number to the closest Fry's and have them call to verify the price.

so i got off work last night at 6 in west hollywood and rushed down to burbank to get on this deal, with my pdf printout in case i need to PM. The guy there tells me they sold out and i couldnt get a rain check and that the price was for thursday only. I then rushed over to best buy nearby which had a lot in stock and they price matched it for me there with no problem. On top of thaty one of my old high school friends happened to be the cashier, and he happened to be an ex fry's employee, Score! :applause:

Went to my local frys (woodland hills,ca) around 5:20 and I got there and there was about 20 people just standing around the video games station. After awhile they started handing out tickets for the PS3 version and soon after the 360 version. They told us to wait a lil while and then to go to the cash registers to pay for it. I grabbed two copies for the 360 but ended up returning one an hour later to buy SMG at Best Buy and get the $25 GC.
They were allowing more that one copy per person?!?!?!? You both suck ass.

After reading reviews from gaming sites, I was going to pass on this deal, but after reading some gamer reviews, I decided it was worth a look at $40. I went to the Downers Grove (Chicago suburb) Fry's last night and they didn't have it on the shelf; I then went across the street to BB and price matched with no issue at all. So far, and I'm not very far into the game, I like what I see...the gameplay has been solid, the story has been interesting and the visuals are amazing.
I was going to drive to that Fry's, but I live 25 min. away and didn't want to fight Southbound HWY 53 traffic at 6:00 PM. Short story long, I went to a local CC and PM'ed it without fuss. Both a clerk and the manager looked at the game and said "Man, a lot of people are buying this game today!" \\:D/
Did anyone go to the Downer's Grove/Lombard Fry's and have success purchasing the game? Any stories about available quantities? I'd like to know.

Yes I did! I bought 2 SMGs, get 2 GCs, spent 1 GC for AC and then resell SMG on eBay for profit! I might do it again, so I can save enough money for future game. BTW, I was very lucky when a hot sexy store manager wanted to call frys, so I was a little afraid and she came back to verified the price and not telling were in stock or not... whew! I'm curious how do you compute Price Match formula? I have two different ways of computing of Price Matching. The first part was using 10% off the regular price then deducted from Sale price. Now the second part was using 10% off the difference then deducted from the Sale price. I like the first part because it saves more than the second part. Here's my mini chart below if you're confused.
Example for AC between BB for $59.99 and Frys for $39.99
Part A
$59.99 x 10% = $6
$39.99 - $6 = $33.99
Part B
$59.99 - $39.99 = $20
$20 x 10% = $2
$39.99 - $2 = $37.99
As a result, why do I have different price between the 2 parts? I may be wrong because my first Price Matcing was part A and the rest goes part B. Maybe I have untrained worker who doesn't know how to compute in part B. If wanted to go with part A then I must go with the right person. ;)
