Post your impressions of the (supposedly), revolutionary title of the year. They say that some BB are selling them early so if you got it fill us in.
According to Metacritic, PC Gamer gave it a 94% - I guess they really like the graphics.

I don't care how the game looks, I just want to know what kind of gameplay it has and how good the gameplay is.
Also most importantly - how long the game is.

If it's as good as the hype, I'll grab it when it comes out for Xbox.

PC Gamer also said it was 23 hours long. That's about as long as Far Cry was.

Looks like D3 is a mindless shooter. Here is a quote from IGN:
"That really depends on what you're looking for in your first-person shooter. For make no mistake, that's exactly what Doom 3 is -- it does not stray far from the formula id Software pioneered with the original title. You explore. You point. You shoot."
You'd think that after so many years they would do something else other than running around killing everything.

Based on my experience with the "alpha", Doom 3 is nothing like "mindless". You sound more like you're looking for this kind of outcome.

Like what? Planting peonies in the corpses and sending love-letters to the cranky aliens?

i understand your want for innovation and interaction, but does it matter if the game is fun?
the past doom games were all run around and shoot monsters, and i enjoyed them. i dont think this game will live up to the hype but i think it'll be fair to the doom legacy of making fun shooters

i dont think the hype deserves to even be debated, this game will do what it was supposed to, kick ass.

the first 100 people in line at Best Buy tonight are supposed to get a free gift. Is there any inside information on what this gift is?

Isn't BB selling this for 54.99 and circuit city is selling this for 44.99... What's the accounts for a 10 dollar difference? I hope they don't htink the pewter figure is worth 10 bucks.

Doom 3's graphics are so sweet! I just got the game and I must say wow the screenshots don't do justice to this game. And I don't even have the best comp and it still looks damn good. The gameplay itself is solid not revolutionary but it's still good. This game is pretty damn scary. Mainly because you can't see shit. Switching between flashlight and gun is abit too slow so you will more than likely get your ass whupped in the dark. Pretty good so far. I got to play it more now.
Also just for fun check out this link http://www.fanta.dk/news.asp?nid=BAB79E22-E525-4A72-B02E-D09842475B57 I am so l33t!

Got a chance to play finally. I have a P4 2.4 with 1 GB RAM and a GeForce FX 5600 256MB video card. There are four detail levels available: low, medium, high, and very high (names might be different). The game suggested I run in 800X600 with High Detail. Runs pretty good, good enough to play for sure. It's a little jerky in places but the detail is pretty amazing. I'm pleased with what I got, though I should point out I'm not an extreme PC gamer.
In other news, the game is damn scary.

Update: Good God, this is one scary damn game. At any given time, the lights go out. You can either pull out your flashlight and and see what you are not armed to fight against, or you can keep a weapon equipped and run blindly into enemies. The tension is like no other I've ever felt in a game. I had to stop playing for a bit, it was somewhat of a sensory overload when things went bad.
As for perfomance, I meet the reccomended specs exactly, except intead of a 9800 I have a 9600 (still 128 mb). The game reccomended I play at 320x640, but I bumped it up to 800x600 and only got slowdown when opening doors. Otherwise, it ran great. Also, turn your speakers way up. The audio in this game is amazing.

My friend got this game yesterday from BB, so hopefully I can play it later after studying. The free gift is probably one of those pinky demon figurines. If anyone works at EB/GS and could get an extra one...Id be willing to trade a litlte something for it ^_^

There is no way my computer (p3 550, geforce 2) can handle this game.
I will hopefully be upgrading soon, I would like to catch up on a lot of PC games, but I have a trip to play for first. Definitely looking to get the latest and greatest complete setup for games like Doom 3.

i've heard it is just another shoot-um-up,
i have also heard that you have to decide to kill someone or try to talk to them to get information,
basically human, don't shoot, gaint demon, shoot

This game is not even remotely scary. What kind of games do you guys play? If the lights go to for "no reason" there is a good chance their will be an enemy comming around the corner. IF you get a power up... most likely a bunch of enemies are going to come to test that new power up... haven't you guys played the originals??? It follows the exact same formula it was just impossible to make those games scary because the technology wasn't sufficient.
Bottom line, this game is no scarier then Far Cry, the mechanics aren't as good as Far Cry but the graphics are a lot better and i like it a lot better then Far Cry because i couldn't stand the voices in Far Cry. At least Id made the character a nameless character, I hate main characters that speak.
