View Full Version : PS2 Universal Remote: $5 at CircuitCity.com
Seems like a pretty cool little remote. Not a bad price for a universal period, let alone one that works with PS2.

i almost got one of these, but i already have a dvd player and really, using your ps2 to watch movies is how to break your ps2. Using your ps2 or xbox to watch movies wears out the laser that reads the data and use it enough to watch movies and it will no longer work. consider yourselves warned.

Where did you hear that?!
Anyways, thanks for the deal. I'd pick one up but my PS2's DVD bios is like 1.1 and DVDs don't display correctly :/ (I use my XBox for DVDs).

I've been using my PS2 to watch dvd movies since I got it (over a year ago) and haven't had any problems. I have heard that playing CD-Rs and DVD-Rs on your PS2 causes it to wear down faster, but I haven't heard anything about DVD movies causing excess wear and tear. I'm not saying it doesn't happen.... just saying I have neever heard of that.

Bah, I've had my PS2 since launch, watch DVDs, and have never had any problems with the system AT ALL.

I bought that remote from cc a couple months ago for 5 bucks, but the thing doesn't work anymore. I think there is something wrong with the reciever part, because the remote doesn't detect it or anything when plugged into the ps2.
I do however still use it as a remote for my tv, so I don't feel totally ripped off...

Does anyone know if this things works with all TVs and VCRs and PS2s? Right now I have 1 remote for the tv, one for the Adelphia cable box, and one for DVDs on my PS2. None of them are cross-compatible. Even when I've bought remotes in the past that claimed to be universal, none of them worked with all of my systems.

Don't buy this. It's horrible. I did not get my $2's worth.
The buttons you need to press are not the ones you'd expect.
Er, so pushing play doesn't make it play?
I don't get your comment.

I'd love a *truly* universal remote, but to really get one, you probably need to spend 4150+ and get one of those programmable ones. I've had some universal remotes that 'work' on all my components, but don't do all the features I want. [cable box, tv, dvd player, HT reciever]. Check out remotecentral.com for extremely indepth remote reports/reviews.

Play's where you'd expect it to be, but the left and right button aren't in the 5-button arrow pad thing - they're just below it. and the enter button, the one supposed to be on the middle of the pad, is down to the left.
This is where I should make a stupid crack about it being designed by the same people responsible for the butterfly ballot.

My cable box with the DVR has a wacky set up. The button for 'Live', which takes you immediately to the current 'live' broadcast on whatever channel you're on, is right below the button for "Fast Forward". I usually watch tv in the dark, and at least 20% of the time when I click Fast Forward, I actually Live, so I then have to go back into the DVR menu, select what I was watching, and sometimes fast forward back to where I was.
Remote button placement really is both a science and an art.
