Ever since I installed that Zune and Tveristy software to get my 360 to see my PC (XP) I have had nothing but video problems when ever I play MOV or anything inside WMP. In Quicktime MOV files, contrast is shot up and no way to fix this. Videos played from a DVD look like they are set to 32,000 color mode or less.
Anything played inside of WMP is very difficult to make out.
I have uninstalled both zune and tveristy software and nothing has changed.
Suggestions besides reforming my hard drive and starting over?

Don't use wmp anymore and use media player classic, bsplayer, or the ever popular vlc. Install the CCCP codec pack. Install the Quicktime Alternative codec as well as the Real Alternative codec. De-associate all media files from wmp to the alternative media players of your choice. That should cover everything.

I've tried other video players and I am seeing the same high contrast/low color bit problems. That's the name I was looking for CCCP codec pack. I used it a long time ago...hmm... I'll try it again.
thanks

Uninstall everything you know is a codec.
Reboot.
Download FFDShow for 99% of your media. Quicktime/Real alternatives and maybe Haali Splitter for MKV. AC3filter for AC3 audio.
Reboot.

ok, I wiped out all codecs and installed what was suggested. Same issue, however I am getting close to the problem and fixing it. I went into my Nvidia settings, reduced the gamma on my video and television settings and that fixed the problem. However as soon as I put the video into full screen mode/load a new video, the problem reoccurs. I think there is this weird bug in my nvidia software (updated) that's not saving the settings properly. Other than that, I have no idea what's going on. Btw its the 6800gt from evga.

Have you tried restoring the system to a point before you initially installed the Zune/Tveristy software.

Tried it, nothing happened :(
I use the KLite Mega Codec Pack and never had any probs:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm
I have the older version so it includes everything, including QT, so I don't have to update it.
Try doing the system restore and see if it works. If not try another codec pack?

The thing is, I am starting to think it's not a codec issue at all... if you have a Nvidia video card, go into that section I mentioned and you will see what options I was playing with. Now under Windows XP Pro, I am having no problems...see this is another reason why I dual boot, because if something gets really fucked up in one OS, I can recover from another boot from one of 4 drives :)

Did reinstalling nvidia drivers help?

Did reinstalling nvidia drivers help?
I tried a complete wipe of the drivers and ran another program to completely get rid of those drivers from my system (no left over unlinked dlls) and booted up in 256 color mode (oh the horrors), installed the updated Nvidia drivers and STILL no luck.

I agree, K-Lite has always been reliable.
When installing, it has a feature called "Detect Broken Codecs & Filters" and that usually helps in these cases. It's helped me a few times.
IDTEFX,
Are you using Riva Tuner?
Also, is Nview enabled or disabled? New Nvidia Control Panel or Old one?

Ok, I am downloading K-lite now...
Riva Tuner was installed to monitor my video cards temp because I had this crazy 70c idle, 120c load which people told me it was either too much dust or the temp monitor on the card was broken. Turns out to have been several dust bunnies inside of the fan area that cause the problems. Now I am at 55 idle, 70c load.
Anyways yes I have had Nview enabled and the new control panel running.
Anyways

I would try setting everything in Nview & Riva Tuner back to "default", Then disabling them while you troubleshoot those codecs.
In the New Control Panel, there should be a button at the top right that says "Restore Defaults", try that one too.
Also, when you installed Tversity, did you get a Prompt asking you to Overwrite any files?
I have a 4:3 secondary display, if you have one too, at the system tray icon that pops up when playing a vid, make sure you right click on it, hit Resize & Aspect. Comes in handy when playing those pesky 640X360 or 720X480 divx files in full screen mode on secondary display.

Well strangest thing happened today....
Quicktime told me there was an update, so I let it update (minus I-tunes) and what do you know, my weird video playback problems are gone! :) So no more high contrast or out of wacked videos in quicktime/wmp. So it was something that quicktime was doing, even though I deleted it and reinstalled it.
oh well. thanks everyone for your input.
