Hey computer people,

I just about never post here but thought you guys might be able to help.

I'm building a HTPC and am looking for a mobo with HDMI out.
Tried the usual searches but found only a few boards that were first generation HDMI. Perhaps they've gotten better?

Only one I know of is the:

Abit Fatal1ty F-190 HD Mini-ATX board

Or would it be best to go with a good videocard with HDMI out?

I don't plan on gaming with it, just downloading and movie watching.

does your hdtv have a dvi input? I would recommend a dvi input and putting the sound into your home stereo system.

My receiver has is HDMI.

So 3 devices via HDMI to the receiver, and then the receiver's HDMI out to the TV.

AFAIK, ATI's HD series cards are all HDMI compatible though many do it via a DVI to HDMI dongle so they might be for video only.

A lot of cards (from both ATI and Nvidia) have true HDMI now and for an HTPC I would recommend getting a stand alone card with HDMI out. You'll get a better picture with a stand alone card than you would with most on board video chips.

Yeah, I think that'd be best. I'll shop around for a good card instead then.

I think the ATI cards, or someone said, have overscan correction.
That's a must.

yeah. stay far away from the 8800 series if you want overscan compensation. you can fix it, but it disables HDCP. and Nvidia is well aware of the problem, they just won't fix it permanently. I'm thinking there's a legal matter behind it? i dunno. :\
