SOLDIER

So I got a pretty slick $200 bonus from work, plus plenty of saved money from the job, and I was taking a look at the Black Friday deals happening this year (which are all neatly archived right here). http://bfads.net/Search/desktop%20pc/all+all+all/
I was considering upgrading my 4-5 year old desktop PC, especially since many of the desktop deals here include an LCD monitor with the package, but I'm also interested in getting a laptop. Basically, I can't decide which I want more.
On the one hand, a high end Desktop is a lot cheaper than a high end Laptop, which might enable me to play some current PC games at maximum resolution as well as perfect movie streaming.
Yet I also like the ease and comfort of a laptop, taking it wherever I want.
So basically, if I were to shop for a desktop, I would want it to be moderately powerful and capable of running some of the more current games with my TV's resolution of 1808x1012 (in which I have my old PC hooked to via DVI/HDMI extension). However, I would also like to carry over some of the hard drives and RAM included on my current PC, which are as follows:
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
2.79 GHz, 1.25 GB of RAM
RADEON 9600 Series Graphics Card
Power-wise, with the custom resolution I picked, it can run games like FFXI, Max Payne 2 and KOTOR just fine, the only issue being some minor screen tearing. For bigger games like Bioshock, it chugs at a snail's pace, while Half Life 2 (the demo, anyway) was able to run fast on 800x600, but chuggy on anything else.
For laptops, the only real requirement I have is that it runs fast, streams any kind of movie without any problems whatsoever, and can be hooked up to my TV either by DVI or HDMI. But if I can get a Desktop PC that matches my expectations at an excellent price, I want to hear about it.
I'll try to research as much as I can, but I would love recommendations from any PC experts in the house. Thanks a lot.
