yea some dc's cant boot up cd'rs. the one i have now can so it really doesnt matter. at $10 its an excellent deal. and its small so i can take it to work and studff and connect to the web if i have to.

emulation is pretty good to. snes runs a lil laggy but nes runs perfect.

actually, after browsing quite a few dc sites, i've found that the whole cd-r problem doesnt exist here.

of couse, at the moment i have absolutely nothing to prove that other than the memories of a web site that had people testing cd-r's on almost every model # without problems.

nah this is not a myth. sega actually for a time put out dc's with no cdr support due to pirating. ive seen them in action

Here's the whole story:
In japan they had things called MIL-cd's which are equivlent to a cd-single with the video for it on the disc. They stopped support for the format on the later cd's, which killed one of the ways cd'rs were loaded...but most systems are able to read cd'rs, although some dc's are picker than others on which brand you use

Yes this is true, I had friends at work 2 years ago burning cracked Dreamcasts games on CD-R's. This is possible, just google it to get details. Cracked CD images of the games are probably all over Kazaa.

Anyone having trouble using their Free Dreamcast Coupon online? I type in 'FREEDC' in the coupon section and click activate and it tells me to enter my Personalized Coupon ID. So I enter the code found at the bottom right hand corner of the coupon, and it only lets me type in the first 9 digits, and it's a 10 digit code... I stopped by a local store to ask about the coupon. The guy wasn't aware of the offer, but said he didn't have any consoles in stock anyway. I found the coupon in the Sept. issue of GMR on the counter. He suggested calling EBGames.com and asking about it. Very nice guy, even game me the magazine for free!

I called the EBGames.com 800 number. The rep eventually talked to his manager and decided that it was a B&M only coupon. Not sure if he was right or just trying to get off the phone. Still, he confirmed the inventory of a different local place and said to try there.

I went to the store expecting to get Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind Radio, and Space Channel 5 for $4.99 each. Good news: SC5 was less than $4.99. Bad news: JGR was $8 and the clerk said I'd HAVE TO get 3 $4.99+ games for the coupon to work. $15 worth of mixed games wouldn't work. 4 $4 games wouldn't work. Controllers and memory don't count. Etc. After digging around I came up with:

CT $5, JGR $8, Phantasy Star $5, SC5 $2, and ChuChu Rocket for $3. $24 for 5 games and the system (black, 'sports' edition). Good luck, and expect to dig around in the bargain bin for a while.

I took it back in store and they didnt have any in stock. So they guy tells me that he wont take it back, and says I don't have a receipt so he wont except the return. So I show him me online thing-a-ma-jig and then he magically pulls out of no where I dreamcast that somewhere had left there when they tried to get credit for it. :shock: . So we switched consoles and I just tested the dreamcast adn it works.

I finally got my $10 Dreamcast yesterday. It came with a piece of crap third party controller that was broken. My local EB is totally out of Dreamcast stuff so I ended up dropping $8 on a new controller at another store. But for a $10 system I guess I can't complain.

Memory card lets you save games only, while the VMU is a memory card and a handheld system that works with some games. At least I think that's how it is anyways.

no it was the system all right. All the games I've tested were in perfect condition without any scratches, and works on non-broken DCs.

yeah, silly me. I just realized that as soon as I got home and examined the thing. It seems to run alright, but is in pretty poor condition. There's dirt or crumbs in the CD tray and it makes a lot of loud noise while reading disks, but it still plays and for $15 I can't complain.

I got mine today (finally) and it was is very good condition. All I did was wipe down the system (it had a few marks) and clean out the controller (man the grooves were filled with gunk) Its works perfectly so far and it reads music CDs, officail games, and back-ups. I'm going to get the VCD player software and see if i can get that working. Man, this is a really good deal, I'm thinking of buying another one just to mess around with it (modigy the internal and external parts).and keep the controller. Thanks to whoever posted this.

Mine arrived today--when I first turned it on, it wouldn't let me set the time/date, as if the either the controller or controller port was bad, so I connected it to port 2, and it worked. I then put it back in port one, and it worked this time!! I then played about 10 rounds of Soul Calibur, and it seems to work fine! I wonder why it didn't work at first? Has anyone NOT received their $10 DC yet? My ebgames.com order states that it shipped on Aug. 4th via USPS, and I'm still waiting -- 9 days later. When I track my package on USPS.com, the tracking number identifies it as a package that USPS is still waiting to receive. I've seen no change on the USPS site since the order originated -- it's still listed as "The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on August 04, 2004 to expect your package for mailing. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later."

I called ebgames last night, and they stated that I have to wait the maximum 5-10 business days before they can help me out. The ebgames lady said that the USPS tracking is incredibly wonky, and the web site is incorrect sometimes. I've never had a package delayed this long from USPS -- sometimes they are faster than UPS 2-day.

Well, I thought I'd share my experience...

My $10 DC arrived earlier this week and was DOA, as was the controller (the analog stick was damaged). Everything was filthy, too. Plus, an RF adapter was included instead of the stereo A/V cable the online ad promised. Then again, that same ad guaranteed the system would work.

Anyway, I exchanged the entire package for another at my local EB, and all is now well. The "new" DC has been working great so far (I've logged four hours of Virtua Tennis), and it came with an undamaged Sega-brand controller and an A/V cable. After a bit of cleaning, I even got the unit looking nearly brand new.

Now I patiently await the arrival of my $3 VMU and used copy of Jet Grind Radio that I ordered the other day. I'm really hoping JGR arrives safely, because I've been dying to play through it again!
