I remember hearing that the cheapest one will not support online, the one they sell at EB and places like that will retail for 50 and include online support, and I do not know what is in the collector's edition game.

someone would get ahold of the game and put it up for everyone to download it. I think they are going to want it to go public as quick as possible. Look at the massive piracy associated with DOOM 3 and people have waited only 2 weeks since it went gold.

They already had one major fuck up for the game. I doubt they would want to wait and let another bite them in the ass

I don't understand people's hatred for Steam...sure I hated it too when it was in beta form. But now the platform is better than ever, with constant updates, and general better performance than ever before. I hated it so much in fact that I quit CS for a while, but I learned to live with it.

Well, I got the pre-load version, which was stupid on my part, as I'm buying a retail copy. Now all the sites are saying the november release date. Maybe I should finally pre-order from Wal Mart.

Steam is entirely free, and every game (Except Condition Zero) is free as long as you have a Half life CD key.

Well, after my experiences of the last week I have a feeling the launch of HL2 is going to be a complete disaster. All of a sudden, one day, Steam just completely fucks up, and I have been trying all week to fix it. First it was all pings in the 1000's, then 2000's, now I can't even access Steam servers any longer. The demand on Steam will be gigantic at launch and for at least a week later, but it seems the servers cannot even support current levels of demand.

I understand a fair amount of people have never had any problems with Steam, more power to ya. But the fact is, after a year's time, Steam is not even close to being as stable as the Won servers.

I'm becoming quite frustrated as I've searched the forum, tried all the tweaks and fixes offered in support, yet the problem is worsening, not improving. Fuck, guess it's time to find a new franchise on PC to enjoy.
