Is Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops + the full game?

I assumed MGS: Portable Ops + was a rerelease with new content. Bought it for $10 this morning. But I just read the review in Playstation (formerly PSM) and it says it's an expansion pack that requires the original game.

I assume that's correct, but just wanted to check.

I'm going to have to take this junk back now, once it gets here :-(

I actually passed on the original game because I thought I wanted to pick up the updated version. Why the hey call this the same name if it's not the same game?

You do not need the original to play, however there is no story mode. It is call Plus as it expands the online mode
