Man this sale sucked this year. NOthing I remotely want or don't have. Baki...eh...maybe. I kind of want GTO, but don't really care enough for it. I already own Afro Samurai. Burst Angel sounded interesting, but everything is very expensive this year for some reason.

It appears that there may be more to this sale before it ends on 12/25.

First there were the 12 Days of Christmas...

Then, the Bundle of Joy emerged, and many though they had escaped the Dark Lord's clutches.

Coming Soon... Bundle of Joy 2: The Dark Lord Strikes Back.

EDIT: It may start on Thursday!

I still can't make up my mind about the InuYasha movie LE box set. Is it worth picking it up now, or is it destined to end up in the clearance bin?

Btw, I just ordered Princess TuTu Complete Collection and Rumbling Hearts Box set at Amazon, $24.99 each.

Could it be that the first sale batch (e.g. 12 days plus bundle of joy 1) isn't doing so well?

Flame of Recca is highly recommened by fangirls, so I have avoided it as it's probably bishonen heaven which I don't care for. GTO I'm curious about, but just looking at that macho main character puts me off completely.

Flame of Recca and GTO are two of my top 5 manga series of all time, I must say. The trouble with the anime versions is that both of them start out pretty faithful to the manga, but neither finishes that way. I haven't even watched GTOs anime all the way through, but I've heard terrible things. But, Flame of Recca manga spans 33 volumes and then anime ends at volume 16, I believe. And, Recca is far from Bishonen Heaven (it's by the same manga artist that did MAR, by the way). There are many more cute girls and old/fat guys than pretty boys. But, still the Flame of Recca anime is enjoyable, and it finishes at the end of a major story arc, and takes it upon itself to seem wrapped up.

Could it be that the first sale batch (e.g. 12 days plus bundle of joy 1) isn't doing so well? Not necessarily. You really don't know how well they are doing. Plus that there are fewer deals from Bundle of Joy this year (16 deals) comparing to last year (21 deals).

Eh. Mediocre. Does anyone know through what disc (of the singles) that FMA set goes through? I think I bought through volume 7 and then had to take a break. I could sell those and then just pick up the season sets, but if I already have the first season then i'd rather not overlap.

OK, I'll probably bite on the 12 Kingdoms sets... I didn't especially care for the first episode, but I hear so many people going on about it, I guess it could really be one of those shows that 'gets better later'.

First things first though- must get tomorrow's paycheck. :D

It covers through disc 4. You basically have no reason to bother, unless you have zero intention of getting that last half in singles and want matching artboxes on the shelf.

Due to popularity of this title, we are exhausting the stock at the manufacturer level. So, there's a counter on there now. Sorry if you were waiting for the very last day, but this will likely eat up most of the inventory for this title for a while, according to what I've been told, so buy it while you can.

Also, due to a couple of requests from those of you who purchased the Recca 1-7 Bundle last year, I have included Recca 8,9, and 10 in the weekly specials this week.

Does anyone know if a collector's artbox was ever made for this series (Boys Over Flowers)?

I managed to catch the first episode recently and I was actually impressed (and I'm not impressed by the most anime).

No, Viz never made a collector's artbox. As this point, it's very unlikely that they will even bother doing a complete collection for this series as well.

Glad I snagged a set of Boys Over Flower. I guess I could always make my own artbox with a little bit of help from Kinko's poster prints, and sturdy cardboard or some type of wood to create the box.

A little bit off/on-topic (anime-related),

Genshiken product::bouncy:

I actually placed an order for all three of the following but will need either the (Genshiken Artbox + Volume 1 AND Genshiken Economy set) OR Genshiken Premiuim collection.

Can someone please tell me whether the Genshiken Artbox Volume 1 is the same (or different) from the Premium collection artbox. The pictures on rightstuf.com shows them to be different, however, they're also showing different sides of the box. The spine looks to be the same though.

It covers through disc 4. You basically have no reason to bother, unless you have zero intention of getting that last half in singles and want matching artboxes on the shelf.

I guess I'll have to wait for Season 2 or 3 at the earliest before I pick anymroe FMA then. As long as I have the singles through 7, then there isn't any reason to pay double and buy the series again. I'm happy with what I got and odn't care for the artboxes, just the show and the discs.

I really have to say, there's nothing I want this year from them, which is kind of sad. I wanted to buy something, but there really isn't anything and I don't feel like forcing myself to buy is a good thing to do. Really, in my opinion, this has been an abysmal sale.

really would like to grab 12K Collection 2 from this sale...but not sure if it's really a worthwhile deal for the 2nd collection...i have the first collection (got it on ebay for $20) and i watched a couple episodes and it was kind of mediocre and slow to start up..but, then again, that was just the first disc. Anyone else have recommendations either/both for this deal of $24 or for the 2nd season itself?

Wow, that MofHS artbox looks awesome. Too bad it looks like a series I wouldn't be into.I am seriously considering picking up MofHS. I at first thought the show was not going to be to my taste, but after a few episodes it really grows on you. If you want a sneak preview, you can check it out here (http://www.surfthechannel.com/show/anime/The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya.html). I recommend giving at least 4 or 5 episodes a shot.

I'd like for FMA to be a bit cheaper... I'd bite if I can somehow get the complete legal dub series for < $60 someday...If you don't mind hassles and headaches, you can get vol 1-7 for around $13 with Columbia House DVD club. Of course, you'll have to place an initial order for the 7 volumes of FMA (49 cents each for the first 6, and then $10 for the 7th), and then buy 2 more at $19.95 or more. Technically you spend about $53-$55, but it's for 9 movies averaging $6 each, and the FMA you can always say you got 6 for $13. (It appears that Vol 8 has finally been added as well, but it would be best to finish up on order of FMA with 2 higher priced, non-enrollment titles, cancel, and repepat for Vol 8).

You can read more at DVDtalk at the DVD Club FAQ. (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=107726) If this made sense to you already, the best codes to use would be:
1KJ,1KX,1KK,1KG,C7L,C7M,C7W,E7F,C7Y,C7Z ,EBP,C80,C81,C82,C83,C84,C85,C86,C87,C88,C89 These all get you 6 for .49 cents + 1 at $9.95 and then 2 to buy at $19.95 or more within 2 years.

Vol. 1 plus box is the same artbox as the Premium Collection- the picture is just both sides of the same box. (obviously, the premium set comes with all 3 discs, instead of just the first 1.)

The Economy set is your standard media blasters brick release, I believe. I don't think it'll do you any good if you want the actual artbox.

Great
ok
cute but not that great
better but still not that great (I personally liked Dash)
CRAP
CRAP (but sexy crap)
really good IMO, but like most say the ending could've used work
I liked the show, I thought it was cute, but it does have some very disappointing parts
oh yeah, and the comic party thinpack is like the ADV thinpacks you see elsewhere, a bunch of thin dvds packed into a small cardboard shell. Probably would be better going with the thinpack because the big box is a piece of paper with plastic around it with the dvds inside. (I bought the big box before the thinpack was even conceived)

Really can't judge anime based on the first episode. You should at the very least check out first dvd. Most of the time its setting up backstory and explaining the plot.

Twelve Kingdoms is tough because it's all over the place.

The initial few episodes are rough going because the heroine is annoying and whiny and the sword is just annoying. Then she gets badass and totally rocks. Then she sits around a lot and has stories told to her. Then we get more characters, none of whom are as interesting. Then I fell asleep.

When it's good, it's very good. When it's talky and slow, it's very talky and slow. And this comes from someone who does normally not complain about things like that. A good word for this show is belabored -- there's a lot in it that dwells on or repeats the obvious for far too long instead of moving on.

I watched it through Netflix and midway through the third story arc before not bothering to get any more, torn between wanting to resolve the story arc and having to watch more episodes in order to do that. Wanting to like it isn't the same thing as actually enjoying it.

Thanks a lot - I was search for "full metal" - two words. I've always been curious about this series, so for that price I can bite.

I've always been curious about this series, so for that price I can bite. It's incredible - it starts out good, but half way through gets even better. Just remember that after you pick out your 6 at .50 cents, pick up a 7th for $10; don't get the 8th. The 7th will reduce your commitments to 2, the 8th will not, so it makes it worse. Then, for the 2 remaining, I suggest finding a couple of $19.95 movies that are not part of the enrollment list (you can tell because when you sign in and look at a movie, it will sometimes say "not eligble for enrollment" or something).

Here's how I see it. Start up prices for Clubs (Columbia house, Disney Movie Club, etc) are usually fantastically superb, so I usually try to preserve those selection/slots for product that's difficult to find at below retail cost. Lots of the Miyazaki title's rarely if ever go below $20.00 and hence I don't plan to buy them locally. Miyazaki titles are reserved for when I pull the trigger and sign up for the Disney Movie Club.

For the Fullmetal Alchemist selection, what I'm trying to say is if you definitely can't find them at a better deal, then yes, use the Columbia House $0.49 slots, otherwise use those slots for DVDs that's on your current wanted list that seem to never go below retail. Fullmetal alchemist can be had at reasonable prices on ebay and elsewhere, I think.

Fullmetal alchemist can be had at reasonable prices on ebay and elsewhere, I think.Although one must consider that ebay might be even more headaches than CH - I know I probably wouldn't buy any anime from ebay. If it's really really cheap, I would guess it's bootleg, and as the price gets higher the better $6 average price from CH sounds. You can grab some at FYE in sales and such (I know I got a few some months back), but then you need an FYE/whatever other store might have them on sale nearby (mines about 30 minutes away). I think CH would be the best, most reliable way to grab the first volumes really cheap. The only hassle I ever had from them was when I signed up I took advantage of a glitch of buy 2 get 4 free - and they charged me too much. I disputed with my CC and got it cleared up after a month of trouble, but it was honestly my own damn fault for being too sneaky with an already great deal.

I've collected half of Fullmetal and (I think) all of Samarai Champloo from CH, and I haven't regretted it. Since you can essentially quit and rejoin, it's not as though you won't be able to fill those slots again ;)

Thank you- that's all I needed to know. Honestly, the whiny-wimpy thing is exactly what was putting me off originally.

As for the slow, talky stuff... well, I like Mushi-shi. I kinda think it won't bug me too much. :D

Her story arc is the best thing about Twelve Kingdoms, and the way her character grows even makes the initial whiny episodes worthwhile. One of the best and deepest examinations of that kind of story.

If the rest of it were as good, and as focused on her, I'd enthusiastically recommend it.

Yeah its not like a show like Bleach where main charachter gets their power and immediately become an awesome ass kicking machine.

She's basically ripped from her home and abandoned in a strange world, constantly betrayed and attacked by monsters. I'd be pretty damn whiny at first if that happened to me!.

Over time however she changes from simply letting things happen to taking control of her own fate. Let's just say that when you push her enough you will see how tough she can be. That plus at times she damn near goes apeshit insane but who can blame her.

Swatting giant bird demon's like fly's while having that homicidal look/laugh on her face anyone?

I finished up Meloncholy of Haruhi, and it was a pretty weak ending I thought. But, I've learned that the eps were intentionally aired out of order, and I watched them in chrono order. I was pretty mad about the ending until I checked the wikipedia article and it says there will be a second season. It didn't seem possible that there wouldn't be one, but I had seen no mention of it (in my limited searching over the past few days). I look forward to it.

You're in luck. The sale was extended because of a website outage of some sort.
Due to an unplanned site outage yesterday, we are extending the "12 Days of Anime" an extra day to allow those last-minute shoppers a little extra time to take advantage of all the savings. (We know you're out there!)

Does anyone have any experience buying anime from Buy Rite DVD? I bought a regular movie from them once before (at least, I think it was from them) and it looked kinda like a bootleg to me.

But they have this deal on the 2nd set of GTO...if it's legit, I'd love to go ahead & complete the set for this price:

I have made a couple purchases from them in the last couple years. The purchases were just fine and they are legit online retailer/wholesaler. They have some good prices on some anime titles. The only downside to them is that like DD, they don't seem to know how to package their shipments.

OK, I'm giving them a shot then. For that price, if their packing is the only problem I can live with that.

The way the original light novelss had it set up left no place for a decent ending, so they made one on their own (with the original author's help). However the next season will be starting at a great spot.

I ordered on 12/18 via priority mail and I still haven't received it yet. I know it's the holiday season, but at this rate I could've saved myself $2 and chose economy (media)!

My order hasn't shipped yet, but this isn't my first Right Stuff sale so I'm not surprised - or concerned. Not why I'm posting anyway. ;)

My GTO part 2 did arrive from buyritedvd.com, and I'm very pleased. The last 5 volumes of the series w/ artbox and even a t-shirt, and everything arrived in perfect condition. For only $20, I highly recommend anyone who decided to bite on the first half of the series in the RS sale go ahead & pick up the rest of it. According to dvdpricesearch.com, no one else has it even close to that price.

And thanks to the ppl that gave them a positive review, I'm very glad I went ahead & ordered from them. :)

Looks like buyrite wants you to spend atleast 100 to sell you anything, you have a way around this or did you spend 100?

No...did you say you were a business or put in a business name? I know they give an extra discount to businesses, but they also have minimum purchase requirements for them. Otherwise, you can order however much you want from them.

Yea, just noticed I read it wrong... >_> Now I'm tempted to bite on some stuff they have...

Yeah, I've bought several things of the past, my biggest complaints would be that they sometimes don't package things well, and they have a tendency to not fulfill coupon codes (it will show the coupon amount off when you submit the order, but you'll actually be charged the original price). Plus, their shipping options are royally fucked up. They really need to automate that stuff instead of depending on us to guess and try to get the cheapest shipping we can (which doesn't usually work and we're charged more than what we agreed upon once they "fix" the shipping option to the "correct" one).

I haven't gotten anything from them in awhile, so hopefully they've fixed those shipment and coupon problems. I've gotten some awesome deals from them in the past, like the entire S-Cry-ed set for $9.99 and Outlaw Star for ~$20 being my favorites.

Anyway, they seem really reliable from my experience.
