What can one do with 128 megs anymore? I mean, come on.
I probably wouldn't use it...unless it comes pre-loaded with content...but it says "Batman Flash Drive" so I'm expecting it to look cool or atleast have a batman logo engraved or painted on.

Whenever someone mentions Predator, I always think of Commando. I liked Predator also, but liked Commando more from what I remember. It's been a while since I last saw it.
I don't understand what the studios are waiting for either.
I am just dyeing to get my hands on Bourne for Blu-ray more than anything though.
Don't worry, Fox is releasing Commando the same day as Predator! :D
And I still want to know what the hell MGM is doing. They need to get off their asses and actually release some movies. Such as Princess Bride which has been postponed forever.

Commando's pq is amazing on the import. Extras are terrible.. AQ is great as well.
Nowhere near what I am legend is though.. or even Enchanted.. yeah I know.

Wow, I Robot got a GLOWING review at HDD.
And yet Fox is screwing the Blu-ray customer yet again by making their packaging look like the BD contains all the features on the SD All-Access Collector's Edition when, in fact, many of them have been edited down from that earlier version (see details at the BD's review at highdefdigest.com). Hell, since they're all still SD extras anyway, Fox could have just added that 2nd disc from the earlier C.E. instead of truncating the extras and squeezing them on a single BD. This frankly scares the hell out me--how am I ever going to be able to trust Fox packaging now, if there's no indication that they're providing edited-down versions of previously available SD extras?

Park Chan-wook is probably the greatest living director in my book.
Couldn't agree more. Although I feel Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is his crowning achievment.

This is why I don't buy Fox titles until they BOGO or go under $20. I would have purchased ID4 and I, Robot, yet when they remove features for no apparent reason, I won't buy it for their asking price. They could have easily fit those missing features on the disc in SD as there is plenty of room left. Boggles my mind.

yea, i picked up man on fire for 19.99 from amazon
i should of read the review, cause there's not a single special feature on the disk
i usually don't mind double dips, but this seems deliberate which makes me want to not buy them at all unless i can get them for cheap

I'm looking for advice on what I should do regarding Blu-Ray. The death of HD-DVD has really put me in a hard place and I'm trying to come up with a solution.
I know that the PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player but it's not a choice for me. My current setup only has a DVI/VGA input on it and they are both in use with my PC/Xbox 360.
So, I was thinking maybe a internal PC drive would be the answer. That way I could also retire my 360 HD-DVD add-on. Only problem is my PC is fairly old and I'm afraid it will have trouble with playback. P4 3Ghz, 2GB RAM, 6800GT. I also don't have HDCP compliant hardware but I heard that AnyDVD will strip all of that anyways along with region code.
Regarding actual drives, I'm looking into two.
The first one is a LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive for $329.99. It would replace my current DVD drive and not only does it read Blu-Ray/HD-DVD but it also burns Blu-Ray discs. I don't really have any plans on burning any Blu-Ray disc but it would be pretty cool to be able to.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,140332-page,1-c,dvddrivesmedia/article.html
The second is also a LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive for $237.14 but this one doesn't burn Blu-Ray discs. It would also be replacing my current DVD drive.
http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=29&id=2438
If I actually buy one of these, I still have a problem.
I recently bought a pair of wireless headphones so I could watch movies at night without waking anybody up. I currently have it hooked up to my 360 but I would want to use it on my PC if I buy one of these drives. What are my options for using these without disconnecting my 5.1 speakers? It has your standard red/white plugs. Would I be able to use the red/white to headphones adapter I have and plug it into the digital out jack on my soundcard?

Is it wrong of me to fork over $22 for a 2-disc special edition of I Am Legend (standard DVD version) even though the extras are weak? I'm such a completist that it actually bothered me when someone gave me the 1-disc of Harry Potter and OOTP. But with I Am Legend, yeah, they could have done a lot more with the extras, but eh...it is what it is I guess. Anyone else feel the same way?

1. No Country for Old Men Disney/Miramax Blu-ray
2. Hitman Fox Blu-ray
3. Dan in Real Life Disney/Touchstone Blu-ray
4. Appleseed: Ex Machina Warner Blu-ray
5. Independence Day Fox Blu-ray
maybe this is a sign for fox to lower the price of their catalog titles, ID4 being outsold by Appleseed?

they fixed the molog feature on saw 4 so now you can add stuff, last night it was broken why i couldn't see what i uploaded
the "alternate" version of i am legend is such a rip off. a few scenes are longer so the ending makes more sense and they added one scene and changed the ending. why not just have deleted scenes/alternate ending? i guess they thought this would sell more, but its pretty stupid.

IIRC, I read on AVS forums that Paramount realize that many are upset with them for switching over, so they are taking their time to make sure they do their blu-rays right, and the BDA is trying to get their plants up to speed to handle the extra load of Paramount releasing on Blu-ray.

beer league, some scenes were really crisp and nice looking, but most of the movie had a lot of noise and didn't look too nice, prolly like 3/5 on HDD scale
the audio tho i think was 2.0, the side speakers were way too low, had to put my ear up to the speaker to hear anything
thought something got loose, but it was just the movie

Really, it was either go back to DVDs or drop the $140 for a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drive for my new computer.
HD-DVD will forever be the superior format in my mind but at least it was around long enough to force Blu studios to stop using shitty MPEG2 transfers and ease up on region coding (even though that last part won't matter to me, I have AnyDVD and it will strip any Blu-Ray of that bullshit :D)

Though, those are getting harder and harder to find at the sub-$15 prices I'd like to get most at. Damn BOGO's @ Amazon were very dangerous to my wallet, and good for expanding the collection.
Between a PS3 and a XA2, I think I'm covered for a while, until some decent higher-end standalone Profile 2.0 BR players come out, and I think it'll be a little while before that's down to my reasonable price range.

I don't think anyone else has noticed this yet, but Netflix wants to go up and charge BR owners more for renting BR. From Hi Def Digest:
Citing higher retail and wholesale prices, Netflix plans to implement a "modest monthly premium" for access to Blu-ray titles some time this year.
As confirmed through transcripts of Netflix's first quarter earnings call, (http://seekingalpha.com/article/73207-netflix-q1-2008-earnings-call-transcript) President and CEO Reed Hastings made the announcement during the conference call yesterday.
"Purchasing Blu-ray DVDs costs more both at retail and wholesale than standard definition DVDs, and consumers are used to paying more for high-definition content in every other channel, including video rental stores, video-on-demand, and cable channels," Hastings stated. "Because of the higher cost of Blu-ray and the consumer expectations around high-def content, we are planning on implementing a modest monthly premium for access to Blu-ray some time this year."
No information was provided regarding a timeline for the price increase or the amount that might be charged. We'll be sure to keep you posted as we learn more regarding the company's plans for next generation subscribers.http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news/show/High-Def_Disc_Rentals/Netflix/Netflix_to_Raise_Prices_for_Blu-ray_Subscribers/1671
If you ask me, thats total bullshit. They all ready have over 6 million customers. And not all of them have any hi def players or tvs. I all ready pay 30 a month for 5 out. If they want to increase by 2 or bucks, fine, I can deal with that. Anything more is milking it. But the way I see it is another way to throttle and bilk even more from people in this growing shitty economy. The dumbasses idea that "people are used to paying more" is malarky.

No, it's not malarky. People are paying more for BD. That's why they are more expensive in stores, on demand, etc.
The way it sounds to me is that IF you want BD rentals as part of your subscription it'll cost more. Otherwise, your charges will remain the same.

Is there a site that simply tells you which version (HD/BD) is better, without getting into the various PQ/SQ scores? Because, most of my collection right now exists of exclusives to either format, and soon I will be having to make choices.
Thanks.
BTW, up to two BDs as I bought Layer Cake last night (both of my BDs are Daniel Craig...:-k)

BTW, up to two BDs as I bought Layer Cake last night (both of my BDs are Daniel Craig...:-k)Not that I've seen, though for most cases that I've seen between BR and HD discs, it looks like they're almost always the same if they were released at the same time or just about the same time.
For movies that were HD-DVD only and they're moving to BR, that might change somewhat depending on the encode and if they do any cleanup.
Most of my collection is exclusive to the specific format they came out on, though when there was a choice, and not any real price difference, I went with BR. When there was a price difference, such as with Michael Clayton, Appleseed and a few other more recent purchases, I went with the cheaper option, which was HD-DVD.

I haven't seen it yet, to be honest. I can't suffer through theaters anymore, partially due to cost, and partially due to the severe lack of manners people have in talking, texting, ringing phones, etc.
It hit a crescendo when the folks in front of me were asking each other about the plot to one of the POTC movies. DISCUSSING THE FINER PLOT POINTS OF A GODDAMNED DISNEY MOVIE! They quieted down after I reminded them that home video was made for folks like them (a cute one-liner I think I grabbed from someone on this site a bit back) - but the point remains that I have, at this point, a near anuerysm each time I go to the theater now.
Seriously, I go to the theater now more than 5 times a year now - at best. I'll do it for bigtime action movies (I'm contemplating Iron Man), or if someone else is paying. ;)
Also, why spend $25 between tickets and popcorn and soda and shit (my wife insists on popcorn and sodie, now matter how much I resist - it's part of the 'movie experience,' sez she) when I can buy the BD at this point?
Short story long, I very much look forward to seeing TWBB on BD, but have yet to see it.
the irony is that I don't shut the fuck up or sit still when watching a movie at home, which drives my wife up the fuckin' wall

Dear Criterion Collection Newsletter subscriber,
We've got some exciting news for this fall, and we wanted you to hear it first.
Our first Blu-ray discs are coming! We've picked a little over a dozen titles from the collection for Blu-ray treatment, and we'll begin rolling them out in October. These new editions will feature glorious high-definition picture and sound, all the supplemental content of the DVD releases, and they will be priced to match our standard-def editions.
Here's in the pipeline:
The Third Man
Bottle Rocket
Chungking Express
The Man Who Fell to Earth
The Last Emperor
El Norte
The 400 Blows
Gimme Shelter
The Complete Monterey Pop
Contempt
Walkabout
For All Mankind
The Wages of Fear
Alongside our DVD and Blu-ray box sets of The Last Emperor, we'll also be putting out the theatrical version as a stand-alone release in both formats, priced at $39.95. Our Blu-ray release of Walkabout will be an all-new edition, featuring new supplements as well as a new transfer; we will also release an updated anamorphic DVD of Nicolas Roeg's outback masterpiece at the same time.
As a special thank you to our newsletter subscribers, we'd like to offer you all $10 off any order of $60 or more placed on on criterion.com through Monday, May 26. Just use the code OFBT and you'll also qualify for free shipping.
Enjoy spring!

You may not like or even have heard of the titles in Criterion's first BluRay lineup, but the fact that they are finally moving to an HD format is really good news for anyone interested in classic/foreign/and yes, arthouse films.

Well, to be fair, you could've just asked someone if there was any title in there worth recommending. Or even bluntly, what the big deal was.
But yeah, I've only heard of half of those titles and the ones I know I'm not interested in picking up.
Definitely keeping an eye on Criterion's BluRay lineup, though, because there's a lot of movies they have handled before that I really am interested in.

I guess the other reason I'm less than ambivalent about not only those titles, but Criterion on BD as a whole. I'm already aware that most, if not all, Criterions are better than their standard DVD cousins, if any double dipping applies (Close Encounters, for example). They are also 2-3x the price, retail-wise. I see 'Criterion on BD' and I can't help but assume that there will also be a Criterion-sized markup over regular BD prices, and I can't see the worth. You have to wonder if you'll get the same 'jump' in quality as you do with regular BD, considering the higher quality of most of their DVDs (Seven Samurai, etc).
1080p really isn't a factor to me either. Right now the best TV I could watch it on is 1080i, and I have ways of upscaling regular DVDs (Criterion included) to the best quality that I can see. Right now I buy HD and BD titles that I either don't own, or know I'll be wanting to watch for a long time - and usually at discounted prices.
Are these titles that people are going to spend $50 on (as a random, but possible price point)?

Well, that's one. And a start. I'll withhold further judgement until more pricing comes along.
That's the price of the regular Criterion on Amazon. Will the BD have the same 2:1 crop? How much better will it look?
These things and more still beg me to ask will it be worth the upgrade price? I'm not one of those people who get wet when 'Criterion' is mentioned.

Is it really only 8 episodes?Sorry, nine episodes:

Nine was a 2-hour, so it might be technically 10.
Plus, rumored to be picked up for a second season.

prison break s3 was only 13 episodes and the mSRP on the blu ray is 79.99
don't think we'll be seeing too big of a discount for strike shortened shows
only way that sarah connor price could be real is if they're hoping to promote the show with a low price which is very un fox like
even firefly which is old is $90 msrp

Pre-Ordered the Sarah Connor Series. We'll see if that truly is the retail price for the blu.

can anyone confirm the qquality of this show? 28 seems like a decent deal I could even flip if I hated the show.
Also, anyone know of a deal for rambo 1-3 and the 2008 rambo?

3x the price? No thanks.
But it's 3x the price for 6x the resolution of the original. Seems like a steal to me. 8-)

Yeah, there's more content in that set than in Planet Earth, and that cost more MSRP.
I've never seen Firefly but people seem to love it.
