This is part of the reason I stopped playing Super Paper Mario, on top of all the text I think I was an hour in before the game even started.

WOW. That WAS high school A/V club quality. Can’t they be doing something like getting my 360 fixed (again)? Assassin’s Creed does not live up to the hype, and as widely reported, it is repetitive. But I grew up playing Moon Patrol and Wizardry, so by comparison to the games of my childhood, the gameplay & mechanics are pretty similar. As a completionist, it’s pretty satisfying to see climb all of the towers in a district or save all of the citizens, but I can see why others wouldn’t like it. It’s a good game, but it’s not a real AAA title like Gears, Oblivion, Halo, or Mass Effect.

i know how you feel. i personally dont mind if there filling you in with important story structure, but when they cut away to showm you that “the right analog stick moves the camera” and “press the X button to jump” gets a bit ridiculous, thats stuff they should let you find out on your own.

From "Assassin's Creed Doesn't Suck"...
"I also enjoyed the game. It was a little slow I found but most of the reviews I read were really strange. The game should have got a 7.5-8.5 in my opinion. That is still a very good score. The problem with Assassin's Creed was that it was over-hyped. It was being hailed as GOTY at E3 2 years ago when it was just in video form. Its still worth a rent if you haven't played it yet."

I agree I dont have that much time to play and then to have to sit through an hour of intro to even get to the 12 hours of gamplay is painfull sometimes. If you think about it though with Mass Effect it is not an established franchise like halo 3 where you know the story and just want to shoot M.F.ers it may need that time so we dont complain about the storyline. Who knows?!?! THERE YA GO.

From Where Do I Apply?
That’s was pretty good, but I liked Mass Effect’s video better.
Maybe Ubisoft isn’t taking as big of a risk as you may think releasing Assassins Creed during the holiday, instead of Tom Clancy’s Fill-in-the-blank Part XV.
Games like Splinter Cell, GRAW, and Rainbox Six are going to sell well whether they are released 12/1 or 6/1.
For a new franchise, I think releasing the game during the holidays, when shopping dollars spent are at their peak, would be ideal, so long as the game is solid and the marketing dollars are there.

cutscenes as a whole (except maybe in RPG’s) need to go away...games like bioshock, half life 2, and call of duty 4 are that much better because there are no cutscenes...i like when games let you get a feel for the game before the action starts but as long as those sequences aren’t too long and not interrupted by cutscene after cutscene ...

As others have said, Super Paper Mario is a horrible offender in this regard. I got it on day one. I sat all that worthless text when I just wanted to run sideways and jump on something. I put it in again the other day after not playing for a while and I couldn’t even figure out how to get out of the little menu/elevator/store town back into the level I left off at. After a few minutes of that I just took it out in disgust and I don’t think I’ll be playing it again. Too bad because the actual game mechanics are so great.

I’m kinda disappointed after watching this trailer. It doesn’t look as good as the last trailer. The character animation looks jerky like the old GTA. The voice acting and music is good though. Well there is still a lot of time before it comes out, so I hope Rockstar doesn’t disappointed me like GTA:SA.

The recent games such as bioshock, mass effect, and assassin's creed all have a distinct voice, which quite exciting. Looks like we're finally past the CG hump where all the games look like polygonal clones of one another.

I hope to god that the rumor that the game will be an MMO is not true. I don’t care if it has Aliens, Robocop, and Karmann-Ghias, I will NOT play (or pay for) an MMO.
This in response to the story of Jordan Weisman getting the electronic entertainment rights to Shadowrun, MechWarrior, and Crimson Skies back.

Microsoft is hell bent on not giving anything for free because they want to create an environment where people pay for every piece of content available.
Its sad when a dev team like Epic can’t give free downloadbles for Gears of War simply because Microsoft prefers to charge for it then build a strong community by keeping the game fresh and always being played.

I already have a PS2, but I would love to give it to my brother so he can experience the greatness that is the four Ratchet and Clank titles. And buzz is easy enough for my sister to have a game she likes that doesn't involve Burnout.

Cut scenes have always been there, as long as games have had elements of story in them. They dont even have to be STORY DRIVEN necessarily.
How else would you like them to communicate to you that the princess was kidnapped? I guess they could have you play a battle at the start that you cant win, which happens in SOME RPGs, but even then, in the end there has to be a scene where Bowser flies off with the princess.

i agree. if i wanted a bunch of dialogue id read a book. I like what uncharted did, carrying the cutscene banter into the gameplay where i could still be playing a game and get all the info i needed. hopefully we can look back and not have to call this a unique idea.

Easily one of my favorite games of all time, the Original I loved so much that before I could play it, I played the demo over and over again until I could save up to get it. And that’s generally considered the worst part of the game. I recently bought it again on Steam.

Shadowrun wasn’t that bad of a game. Granted, it could have used more maps, finished animations, more modes, better balance, less lag, more support, dlc, and a lower price. Other than that, it was great.

I wouldn’t fear so much for Fallout 3. At least with that one you’ve got an excellent developer that has shown they love, respect, and just “get” the source material.
As soon as I heard of Deus Ex 3 I was overjoyed because I remembered the awesomeness of the original. Then once I realized the two main guys behind the game were gone, my hopes evaporated.

I can’t bring myself to call it tasteless, but I’m fairly certain that I can’t call it brilliant. What does this accomplish. If I really wanted a cheat code it would be way easier to look it up then to watch a 1:00 video. If I want to gawk at beautiful women, this works, but I think there are much better options. Now, if I want some comedy these seem to be pure gold. If it weren’t for the fact that the teleprompter setup seems off I would think that they are intentionally made for the comedic effect. But I wonder if this is a case of something being so bad it becomes good again.

I was also quite a fan of the genesis shadow run. I remember when they had the sega tv thing, we used to play shadowrun all the time (a year later or so I finally found it in a store).
If they can make a new one along the lines of that I may get a 360. If it turns out like the SNES one I may puke.

That said, 3rd party controllers are always a risk. And the nunchuck will weigh a lot more with batteries.

I loved the old ShadowRun games too, especially the Genesis version, due to the randomized and open-world elements. Of course, it would be great to have a ShadowRun on modern consoles that combines the best elements of both version, the P&P faithfulness of the Genesis version with the excellent storyline of the SNES version. Heck, even the SNES’ point and click interface would work well on the Wii or DS.
Crimson Skies was a flight game with plenty of spirit. The PC original was memorable for its wonderful music, voice acting, and general atmosphere. High Road to Revenge made the game much simpler and more accessible, and you know something? In a rare outcome in a case like this, it worked (Unlike say, Deus Ex: Invisible War or Tribes: Vengeance). HRtR was a blast in both single and multi-player, and the simpler system made it easy for both veterans and newcomers to master the game.
As I said in my topic on CAG’s General Gaming board, GameSutra speculates that Smith & Tinker may be working on some sort of online game, perhaps even an MMO, due to a job posting on their web site requiring “Web 2.0 and online game experience.” Personally, I would like to see either Crimson Skies or Mechwarrior get an MMO, as they both have a focus on customizing, and they both have a expansive universe with many factions and areas. ShadowRun would be nice, but after the last game, I would rather see the type of SR game that I detailed above released.

Wouldn't it be harder to find both remotes? One less wire wouldn't make a difference. Game developers make games with the thought that there is a wire between the nunchuck and the wiimote.

The panda sleeps, the diablod breathes fire (rarely), and the zergling is a disappointment. I don’t know...$115 for a figurine doesn’t sound that much, even though I quit a long time ago....haha.

Is it just me or is Microsoft’s PR getting pretty lousy these days?
First Major Nelson talks about preserving the “integrity” of Xbox 1 ganes and now they want to avoid “burdening” customers?
If micro transactions were truly small (<$1) I would understand their reasoning, but with average items costing much higher than that I don’t buy it.
I say just charge us in quantities of 100 points and while still offering standard bundles to those who want them and be done with it.

Wires? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Wires
My comment:
I can relate. I wish I could go back and make older controllers wireless! I hated that my PS2 didn’t have an equivalent to the Wavebird. I found the Logitech Wireless PS2 pad but got rid of it after getting a slim PS2 and the receiver lifted the system up because it was too big! I re-bought one when I found out it came with a smaller receiver. I for the life of me can’t understand why we don’t have a wireless Classic Controller for the Wii with Rumble. Well, still no rumble but the CC without the cord would be nice with the nyko attachment. The 360 pad is almost perfect except for the D-Pad. If I had my way I would make a controller with the Saturn D-Pad, the 360 analog sticks, wireless, and with rumble....now that would be innovation and a work of art!

Didn’t figure out what girls were until I got into college, and 20 years later I still don’t know what to do with them—ask my wife.
But, I did play the hell out of some D&D—I was a little early for Shadow Run, but we squeezed a little bit of Traveler in there as well. And, who could forget Car Wars from Steve Jackson Games in the great little plastic cases that made everything so easy to carry—all those damn little car shits were so thin.

In an age of CG, there’s a fine line between immersing yourself into the story of the game with cutscenes and getting lots of rest through a snoozefest of cinematics. I think Super Mario Galaxy’s cutscenes could’ve been more shock and awe rather than slumberous and rather dull intro had it been released at the same quality a few years back when the Wii’s graphics could’ve been more prominent and had more presence.
But really, who needs SMG when you have SMB2 and jump right into the fun, right?
