Will be picking this up as soon as I finish the next chapter in Lego Indiana Jones. Played the demo over and over so I can't wait to get started on the game. Glad to hear the good responses so far and happy to hear that it gets harder as you go on. The first three gardens on the demo didn't seem very hard at all.
Edit: Finally picked this up and haven't put it down since. Managed to get the 10x combo and 15x time jewel but haven't been able to get the 15x combo trophy yet. How close have any of you guys come to getting the 100,000 pollen in a level. I collected what I though was a ton of pollen only to realize at the end that I only had around 20,000.

Yeah, I took that into account. Yet some turrets just sit idly by and let monsters through to kill the little ones. It's getting pretty frustrating now. It's also annoying that if you put turrets too close to one another that only one will work, while the other does nothing.
It never does any of that stuff with me. Possibly turrets have already shot, and are waiting for their next turn or something? Turrets that are close to each other? They all fire the same, when things get in their range. You have a wack version of the game, apparently!
By the way, why can't I use custom soundtracks in Eden? WTF?

The music is designed especially for this game. Over 100 minutes worth.
They even go so far as to tell you to play either with high quality stereo speakers or headphones.

Haha, I had about the same, I thought the score was the pollen, yeesh.
And the 500 prowler thing I only got about 250. Guess I have to keep playing in a level till I get it. You got close to my score, thanks for adding me.
Can't wait to get home and play more.

Falling shouldnt have any effect on your time remaining. It should tick down the same no matter what your doing as far as I can tell.
Anyone that would like to add me as a friend feel free to do so.
I just started on the fourth garden and am hating the number of rocks on the level. Nice to see the difficulty shooting up a bit though. It has been very easy so far. As of right now I am #112 overall on the total game leader board. My highest national ranking was for garden 3 where I am ranked #9. Some of the people playing this have some insane scores.

My game started up with the blue background, and the colorless plants.
I know you can change it via that little pod next to the yellow plant close to garden 4 or 5.
Kinda neat it changes on it's own. I hate the blue though. :)

Up to five trophies so far. Missed the Garden 4 seeds trophy by one on my last try before I ran out of time and had to collect the 4th item. I should be able to get it on my run through for all 5. Having a hard time getting a decent score on that level though. There is just not much room in order to try and run a combo.

Do the friends leaderboard not show up at first for anyone else? I have to switch between the 1P, 2P, and 3P modes first before anybody else shows up.
I'll add a "Damn, Jet" to that total score that you have, which is over 200k more points than me or Dallow.
Edit: Ahh, that other color-changing pod is by where garden 6 is located, which changes everything green.

Yeah there seems to be a lag when posting your scores to the leaderboard. It makes the friends board delay in showing up and an even longer delay in your score updating on that board. Its been taking anywhere up to 10 - 15 minutes for my scores to move from the game to the board.
I need to go back and redo the first garden after learning a bit more techniques in order to raise my score for that garden.
On my last run through garden 3, I finished with 489 kills. I could kick myself for not getting 11 more for the trophy lol.

Did you get it on the first garden ? I haven't really tried that one yet as I have been going for score on the leaderboard and completion of the seeds for trophies. I finally got the trophy for garden 4 and finally broke under the 100 mark on the overall leaderboard. Sitting at number 85 as of right now.

Yep, I did it on the first garden. I figured since there is only one complex prowler in the stage, that would be to my advantage.
But, I found the difficult part was getting prowler combo at some locations (like the giant seed in the northeast).
Anyway, great time, I'm thinking of ways to shave off my time, but I probably should move on to the second garden at this point.

So I downloaded the demo last week when it went up, but only just played in this afternoon. I was a little frustrated with the controls at first, but after playing for about 20 minutes I think I really started to get the hang of it (although I wish you had a "bionic arm" like silk shot for those times when you just miss where you want to be and don't want to fall all the way to the bottom)
Anyways, I had a lot of fun with it and decided to give them $10 and buy the full version (which is downloading as I type this and is probably done by now). Hooray for reasonably long demos!

Garden Eight is just to the right of garden six. Just head to the right from six instead of heading left like you would be going to seven.
It taking much longer in the later levels going for all the seeds in the level for the trophies. You definitely have to manage the time replenishers that around the level.

It really depends on how long you hold the the button down, as if you let go before you reach the end of the tether, you'll jump, and if you don't, you'll swing until you do let go.

I tried to go for both 500 pollen prowlers and 100,000 pollen, but only ended up with the former. If there was some consistent score for each pollen you collect, since I there's a multiplier for when you gather large groups of pollen while collecting individual pollen is just one point, it would be easier to know how close I am to that goal.

and 10 is harder than 8 and 9...the hard order for me was 9 < 8 < 7 < 10. I still haven't gotten trophies for full seeds for 9 8 and 10 tho, gonna work on it when i get free time. 8 and 10 are just so big, i don't feel like going through them again and missing one like last time

Question!!!!
I just got a psp and set up remote play, and I was just messing around, but the pixeljunk eden demo plays in remote play
Anyone else notice this? And does the full game work in remote play as well?
edit: also pixeljunk monsters works. I'm just way out of the loop here or what?
yep out of the loop indeed. Well I just got my psp and this was a very pleasant surprise...

In garden 9, there's one spectra alll the way on the left that is tucked just under a platform. What's the right way to get it? I try to jump as vertically as possible off the right side and catch on to the wall, but it's really hard this way. I spent about an hour losing in garden 9 yesterday so I don't really want to try it again until I have some chance of success. The one all the way at the top is a pain in the dick too thanks to the laser enemy.

As for Eden, well… that’s way too easy a game to make it any easier, surely???!
At least in co-op you can reach out and catch your betrothed if she falls, the veritable juliet to your romeo so to speak.
However, we do have lots of ideas for the expansion pack as the controls are too much fun to waste on just one set of game rules. I’m sure we will try and add a more namby pamby mode for the “lighter” people out there.

When you activate the seed that gets you to the first lifts, collect enough pollen so that out-the-way seed is filled and make your way to the left filling seeds until you see the second set of lifts that can get you to the top of that rock formation and just jump over to where that seed is. Grip to the bottom of the straight plant and use your tether to drop down and get that last seed. It's a much easier way to do it than just trying to jump from under that rock formation.

I thought it was cool when they started adding the things that shoot you, the portals and the moving walls, but garden 7 is just a whole new level of awesome. I've managed to get 4 of the 5 spectra so far, then I decided to try gardens 8 and 9 and my instincts were totally thrown off by normal gravity, it's crazy.
As a side note, what's with all the reviewers claiming that the time is a bad thing, it's like they want to game to be flow/flower. I like the challenge, and there are enough time pickups everywhere that the few times I have failed are not from the clock, but my failures.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/22/pixelpatch-pj-monsters-updates-incoming/
Hi PixelJunkies! I’m Matt Morton, Associate Producer at SCEA Santa Monica Studio and I’ve had the great fortune of working on the PixelJunk series since the very first title, PixelJunk Racers (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/09/05/pixeljunk%E2%84%A2-bringing-2d-back-in-hd/). We’ve been working hard to keep spreading the PixelJunk Love (as Deb Mars calls it (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/30/pixeljunk-eden-oh-glorious-gardens%E2%80%A6and-did-we-mention-trophies/)) and wanted to give you a heads up on the upcoming patch for PixelJunk Monsters (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/pixeljunk-monsters/) and PixelJunk Monsters: Encore (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/04/29/pixeljunk-monsters-encore-details-interview/).
The patch will be releasing VERY soon, with Japan getting the first patch release on October 23. If all goes well with final testing, you will see the patch in SCEA and SCEE territories on October 30. If there are any delays to the above mentioned dates, we will be sure to update the blog to let you know about it, so stay tuned!
The Q-Games (http://www.q-games.com/) team has been hard at work on the PixelJunk Monsters patch and has packed a TON of great features into this great game. I’ll give you a quick breakdown of some of the new features you will expect to see:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3043/2962254703_ecf5197939.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2962254703/)
Game Difficulty settings
You can now choose between three different difficulties of gameplay! There is a Casual mode, the Regular/Ranked mode, and Hard-core mode. The great news here is that you can use any combination of difficulties to complete your progress through the islands! Is there one particular map that’s too hard? Try it in Casual mode. If you Rainbow the level, that rainbow counts and will remain on the map no matter what difficulty the other rainbows were achieved at! Only the Regular difficulty will register on the ranking boards, though.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3028/2963101318_d894138fbe.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2963101318/)
Tower Menu selection
You can now set the default menu to appear when selecting a tower! How many times have you sold off a tower and run over to another tower to quickly upgrade it and accidentally sell it by mistake? I know I’ve done that many, many times. Now you can choose which option appears as the default, instead of the last action you selected.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3216/2962254817_16b8b06979.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2962254817/)
Tower Balancing
Those of you who have purchased Encore know about the reduced cost on the Ice Tower, and balanced functionality of the Tesla tower. This patch applies those changes to BOTH islands, not just the Encore island.
Video Recording / YouTube Support
Ever since Q-Games included this feature into PixelJunk Eden, we knew it needed to be in Monsters as well. You will be able to record up to 10 minutes of gameplay and upload it directly to your YouTube account, or send it to your video folder on your PS3’s XMB.
XMB Custom Soundtrack Support
You can now make your own custom soundtrack to listen to as you play PixelJunk Monsters and Encore! I’ve personally been enjoying listening to the PixelJunk Eden soundtrack while I play Monsters, as well as listening to the PixelJunk Monsters soundtrack within Eden! It’s great how well those fantastic soundtracks work in other games.
With these features being added, and several other small bugs being fixed in the game, we think you’ll have a great time playing PixelJunk Monsters and Encore all over again.
I think that’s about it … But it feels like I’m missing something … Hmm … I can’t quite put my finger on what I might be forgetting. Wait a minute … I remember now …
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3296/2963101360_d48d175f96.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2963101360/)
TROPHIES
Trophies are now added for both PixelJunk Monsters and Encore. We weren’t able to retroactively apply Trophies to the previously played data, but Q-Games didn’t want to force people to play everything all over again. They came up with a great idea by creating Trophy Challenges. These challenges have specific maps with set rules or objectives that will reward you with Trophies if you complete them properly.
Recently, Jeff Rubenstein got to visit Q-Games in Kyoto (the lucky so-and-so) and shot an interview with Dylan (http://blog.us.playstation.com/author/dcuthbert/) to talk more about the patch for PixelJunk Monsters. Check it out …Check out the link for a video of Dylan explaining the new difficulties and the trophy mode. Exactly. It's bad enough that they choose to release so much goodness in just a 3 month span, and now they revive older games to further increase the backlog! My only hope is self-control. The CAG part of me has to keep telling the gamer part to not spend $50 on new releases, when there will no doubt be great deals before half a year has passed.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/11/14/dont-expect-next-pixeljunk-game-any-time-soon/
Looks like the Q-Games team is taking their sweet time with the next PixelJunk game. The team has been quite prolific, with three PSN games under their belt: PixelJunk Racers, Monsters and Eden. The brand has managed to garner a loyal following amongst PS3 owners, and we're sure many are eagerly awaiting the next title.
Unfortunately, it can be a long wait for the next PixelJunk game. Dylan Cuthbert told Parallaxed Game (http://parallaxedgame.wordpress.com/2008/11/12/interview-with-dylan-cuthbert-of-q-games/) that the next game won't be unveiled for quite some time. In fact, nothing might be shown at next year's GDC show: "We can't talk about any of the future titles yet, we might not even show anything at GDC09, who knows! The next title isn't necessary based on the Dungeons prototype work as we develop several ideas simultaneously, finally going with the idea that has the most momentum."
It's going to be a long wait, but so long as their next game can match the addictive quality of Monsters and Eden, we're sure it'll be worth it. Stay tuned.
It sucks that Dungeons may not be announced/revealed for another three to four months. I wonder if they're prepping for the 3D phase of their PixelJunk games.

I don't understand why PJE has a time limit to begin with.
Yeah, I was really into it at first, but I'm not sure what turned me off to it. I don't remember the time being the deal breaker, but a continue system would have been enough pretty fair and reasonable from the start.
Bravo to PJ for reigniting interest in their games after release. I'm curious as to what's next on their list.

If you checked out the NExt Great Game Gods video in the PS Store from yesterday, you would have noticed a few interesting things. One, Dylan Cuthbert shows a bunch of pictures of PixelJunk game concepts, which includes Racers, Eden, and Monsters, but you can find Dungeons in there along with some other interesting concepts, like a fighting game. He also reveals at the end that PixelJunk Monsters is coming to the PSP early next year, which explains why we haven't heard anything about Dungeons or whatever their next game will be.
They have the video on the web here:

You'll have to skip to about halfway when the Q Games part of the video comes up.

Gamasutra (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=21808) has a new interview w/ some of the Q games ppl.
Next game's due out early this year and unfortunately it's not Dungeons. Here's the quote about it......
KY: A new team has started in on the next PixelJunk project. We have not yet begun publicizing the game, but it is on schedule to be released in early 2009. Another title in the series is Dungeons, which we announced at back at the Game Developers Conference.
This is a PixelJunk installment, but we are planning to spend more time on the development, so the release will follow after the fourth PixelJunk game in the series.

Some more concrete details on what's in Eden Encore:
Sorry about the lack of information as of late, but busy doesn’t even begin to describe my work for the past few months…what with the exciting new project coming along (hint: yes, we’ve heard your requests!), and at the same time implementing some of our most crazy ideas for the new gardens in Eden Encore (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/01/13/pixeljunk-eden-tending-to-our-lovely-gardens/).
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3558/3363182831_0f4057e3dc.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3363182831/)
Eden Encore will be coming out very soon in April. Get ready for zero gravity, mirror worlds, all new music from Baiyon, and we’ve added something extra special at the end which is a Big Secret(tm) and is a present to all the fans. On top of all this, we’re flying along with the next new PixelJunk title (we’re calling it #4 for now) and even experimenting with future PixelJunk ideas too.
But things just keep getting more exciting because PixelJunk Eden has been nominated in not just one, but three (!!!) categories at the upcoming Independent Game Festival (http://www.igf.com/)’s award show in San Francisco, CA. We are also nominated for the GDC Choice award (http://www.gamechoiceawards.com/nominations.htm)s too, which are held during the same week. So GDC (http://www.gamechoiceawards.com/nominations.htm) is going to be pretty crazy and even busier than normal, and I am looking forward to it a lot! Oh, and before I forget, on Friday, March 27 at GDC, Baiyon (http://baiyon.com/) will be doing a talk about Eden and the use of CMYK in his graphic design work. I’ll be there in the audience listening in of course, so if you’re attending GDC, be sure to come check out this talk.
Anyway, back to work. I’ll pop back soon to detail more specifics about Eden Encore, so watch this space!

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/pje2a.jpg
I played the new “Pixel Junk Eden” expansion “Pixel Junk Eden Encore” today and learned what’s new about this: five new levels. They are accessed through a portal in the standard “Eden” garden menu, which leads to an “Encore”-specific garden. The levels share the aesthetic of the original game’s, but I was told by a Sony rep that they are larger and full of new ideas. The biggest idea may be the new move which will also be retroactively added to “Eden” itself when “Encore” comes out next month: Activating three seeds in one move causes all of the pollen-filled floating entities on the screen to detonate at once, releasing a massive amount of pollen.
The first level of “Encore” that I played was set up for the big new move. It presented three seeds in a vertical stack. I set them all up for activation, then triggered them in one go. The screen filled with pollen. It was clear that “Encore” is working on a larger scale than “Eden,” presenting a bigger spectacle of its elements than the original. I joked that instead of being called “Encore,” it should be called “Extreme.”

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/03/27/pixeljunk-eden-encore-details/
This is Dylan (http://blog.us.playstation.com/author/dcuthbert/) from Q-Games, (http://www.q-games.com/)the company behind PixelJunk, and following on from my blog entry (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/03/20/all-busy-on-the-pixeljunk-front/) last week where I listed what we’ve been doing for the past few months. This entry is all about Eden Encore (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/01/13/pixeljunk-eden-tending-to-our-lovely-gardens/).
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3569/3379260517_78666e7171.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3379260517/)
First things first, what have we added? Well, basically we have added five whole new stages, each one choc-a-bloc full of ideas and gimmicks. We also designed five brand new backgrounds for them (each background for a garden is programmed uniquely just for that garden’s style - just in case you hadn’t noticed that in the original), and Baiyon (http://baiyon.com/) went away and created five brilliant new tracks of music to match it all up.
To make things a little easier we are going to retro-patch the original Eden to have a new feature we created for Encore. This is the three-seed smart-bomb power your Grimp now has. Simply put, if you jump into three full seeds in a row, all the “Prowlers” on the screen explode into a big cloud of pollen. Everyone who boots up their original Eden in a few weeks will be patched and get this feature, so look out for that!
Thinking up new stages for Eden was hard work. We put a lot of stuff into the original game, especially the gardens onwards from garden 04, and we racked our brains for new and interesting ideas to put into this expansion pack, and we think we found some pretty cool ones! One of the first stages has you in a Garden where all the plants are huge and thick, and at the same time there are loads of them, all intertwined. This is a type of stage we didn’t have in the original game - falling isn’t much of an issue in this garden because the vines are practically everywhere.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3423/3379187213_f50f77ae56_m.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3379187213/) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3436/3379998112_2485ced235_m.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3379998112/)
Also, in another garden we have implemented a zero-G item that once you collect, lets you float and control your Grimp with no fear of falling (well, until the effect wears off of course) which is crazily fun with three players! At the same time that garden is full of some pretty cool puzzles to solve, and we really go to town with the no gravity mechanism. In one of the final gardens we have implemented an entire “mirror” garden that you go in and out of freely via portals scattered throughout. It’s a lot of fun making your way back and forth between the two subtly different “mirror” gardens - what might be a cannon in one is a teleporter in the other; what is open space in one, might be closed off in the other. It’s a lot of fun solving the puzzles.
Right at the end of the game, if you collect all the 25 new Spectra we’ve added, we have put in a big present for our fans - one that will enable you to play the entire game again in a completely different way, so that’s really something for everyone to look forward to.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3460/3379181779_1578b10bcc_m.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3379181779/) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3476/3379181697_6f7dc946ba_m.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3379181697/)
What else can I say really? This expansion pack isn’t just “some extra levels”; it is full of rich design and will give you weeks of fun, so it’s definitely worth $5.99!Sounds like a cool expansion that's more than just more levels to play.

Coming out of its recent Gamers Day event in LA, SCEA has finally given up precious details on the third iteration of Q-Games' addictive tower defense game, PixelJunk Monsters (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3163050). Traditionally a series for PlayStation Network, this version will be for PSP and is titled PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3170927). The "deluxe" moniker isn't just a fancy way to say "port" either, as it will not only include the two islands from the original and Encore expansion (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3167193) of the PSN game (including everything the expansion brought to the table), but a third new 11-stage island, complete with new music by Otograph.
With the new island, Deluxe will also bring two new towers (one of which is a gem tower that will slowly upgrade any offensive towers in its radius), a new boss monster, and a new enemy type. Previously ground-only creatures, like the speedy spiders, will now start off as air types thanks to balloons strapped to their backs. After you pop the balloons, the monsters drop to the floor, becoming ground creatures. Medal challenges replace the PSN games' trophies, and you can use the ones won to purchase unlockables in the Tiki Hut, like videos, themes, and artwork.
Gameplay remains unchanged, but to accommodate the PSP's screensize, the camera will zoom in to follow your character's movement and zoom out whenever something happens outside your point of view that the game deems important (new wave of monsters approaching, monsters get to the babies, etc.). This is helpful when playing co-op, which Deluxe will have available in local and online flavors.
The publisher provided factsheet for the game lists Deluxe's platforms as PSP and PlayStation Network, though. Could this mean the game will be sold via download as well as on UMD? Whichever way they're selling it, I'm buying. PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe is due out this fall.

Online co-op?
I hope they'll do a patch for the PSN Monsters.

deluxe sounds neat - would love to have the new world/etc as an add-on to the psn title though. My psp has an inch thick layer of dust that I've been working on for a while now!

I'm liking Eden Encore a lot. Garden 12 is my favorite with 14 probably close behind at the moment.
The Encore garden appears as a portal in your main garden that starts out just like the beginning of Eden, where you have to play a bit of Garden 11 to open up the path to 12 and so on and so far to open up the rest of the gardens. There are plenty of portals around the Encore garden to take you back to Eden and you'll find the same types of bonus items around, like cannon flowers and those steering wheel things that changes the color scheme of the Encore garden until you get them all to reach the special bonus at the end of the journey like you could at the end of Eden.
Garden 11 and 12 are pretty much like the early levels of the main garden, with those easy prowlers that won't cut your silk rope for your pollen needs. Each one of those offers a few of the bigger prowlers that will stalk you around the level until you kill them or let them do their thing.
Garden 11 is extreme verticality in that the plants you grow tend to be really tall, so there is a lot of space for you to cover when getting spectras, which is why this garden is probably the longest in the entire game.
Garden 12 is more styled like the beginning levels in most aspects, with lots of rock formations to move around on. This one feels smaller and more intimate than Garden 11.
Garden 13 is where the weird mechanics start coming into play. This one features floating rock formations that drop when you land on them and float back to their original spot when you jump off, which is cool and a fairly safe way to see a bit more of what's around you. It also features quite a few portals, which may be more related to Garden 8 a bit than their first appearance in Garden 6.
Garden 14 is another insane level, which features these new crystals that look like the large time crystal but activates zero gravity. That means that you can continue your jump for as long as it lasts, which isn't all that long, across greater distances than you'd normally be able to do that. That is sort of your main means of getting across the garden, so there's not too much exploration early on. Expect to see the tougher pollen prowlers that will cause your silk rope to break more quickly here.
Garden 15 is pretty much like a spinoff of Garden 6, but the portals take you to an alternate version of the same garden where you fill up more seeds to reach the next portal to get to an area you couldn't reach before. The first world features the easy prowlers and the mirror world features the bladed prowlers, so there is some challenge to be had to just get to each portal depending on the world you're in.

The big turn off on Eden for me was the time limit. If they took that away, Eden is probably one of my favorite games of this generation.
Unfortunately that's a big factor in Eden, TIME... Otherwise, the crystals will have no value other than accumulate scores. Not to mention combos will be less sought too. Of course, that makes pollinating the seeds easier (no time limit, duh).
If you take away time limit in Eden, it's a different game... The "easy" patch did make the crystals last longer and there's a Continue option too. Of course, you will not get All Seeds trophies if you use Continue.

thanks for the write up on Eden Encore. I have only tried Garden 11, my goal is to pollinate all seeds, the Spectras are just for more time :)

Oh man, I really hope Monsters Deluxe is PS3-compatible. Not sure I can justify buying a new PSP for my fiancée just to co-op... I've been tempted because of Patapon 2, etc. but it's not a small chunk of change for only a few potential games.
Maybe they'll sell Deluxe as a standalone package for the PSP and also an add-on like Encore for PS3.

Deluxe is a PSP game, so of course you need a PSP to play it.
1-4 looks cool, but what ever happened to PixelJunk Dungeons?

It's coming later. It's could be 1-5 or something after that.
The video clip of this immediately reminded me a lot of Downstream Panic & LocoRoco. Moreso of Downstream Panic.
As long as this will be offered for around $10 I plan on buying it. Ten bucks is my general limit for downloadable games.
