Melty Blood is soooooo good. Well, assuming you like Guilty Gear, which you do. The game might seem button mash-y at first (not on the level of DOA, of course), but there's a lot of complexity to the game and yes, it's definitely worthy of a purchase. So rejoice in your purchase!

Seriously play MVC2 and CVS2 until your eyes melt out of your skull. I can never get sick of either of those games. It's down right impossible.

I'd play more CVS 2, but I never did get around to getting that converter for my DC. I still wanna do that sometime. But I love CVS 2 soooo much even though I haven't played much of my fancy-pants DC version.

I'm happy CVS2 works with the 80 GB PS3, cause it was having lag issues on my PS2 originally after I got a HDTV.

As for Melty Blood, I actually used to have a roomate that loved Guilty Gear but couldn't get into MB. I found that kinda odd.

Melty Blood is a lot more anime-ish which is a turnoff for some people. As is the fact that like every character is a girl.

MarkMan, I know it's hard to ignore that thread but you gotta.

I'm still in the camp that thinks the word "cheap" is used by newbies. A friend of mine who doesn't play MVC2 said one time the Doom AA + Strider Ourobots was "cheap" while we were playing. Funny thing is I had a couple people over and another friend chimed in, "Well you are letting him get away with it right? Why are you leaving yourself open to it?".

Simple explanation. I don't know if anyone else feels this way but if you are in a really crappy situation ("cheap" to n00bz) you put yourself there. There are ways to avoid (For example) Magnus snap-backs in MVC2 and ways to be careful so you don't your ass painted by A-Bison in CVS2. Sure sometimes it's tough but isn't getting better what being a hardcore fighting game fan (aside from loving the genre) is all about? Lets drop the word "cheap" for a couple decades in fighting games.

the only things that seem to prevent me from this is college classes (demanding bastards), money (which will mostly not be an issue next year), setting it up (time), and the fact that I'll be going to the Game Dev Conference and Sigraf conventions.

also, I can see how the bound system really helps dragunov alot since he has alot of good juggles that hit low. does hitting a midair opponent with dragunov's B+4,2 put them into B!...? if so, then I'm happy.


it's weird seeing who I playt as each tekken when I focused at Tekken 3...

Tekken DR: Dragunov

My guess is I'll still play a ton of Kazuya and Dragunov in tekken 6, but pick up either miguel or bob. I just hope when it hits consoles, the tekken team learns to make good internet code, unlike Tekken DR >_<

I think MAS sticks are supposed to be the best American, bat-style sticks there are, but I would definitely rather have a Hori.

I dont even know what bat stick means. I've got a few Hori's - The Soul Calibur GC, the Wii & the Tekken 5 one. Also the Street Fighter Anniversary one, which is the one I'm most used to.

SF Anniversary stick = bat, Tekken 5 one = Hori.

The bat style stick in the SF Anniversary stick is what you'll get in a MAS stick (though higher quality in the MAS) and to me, it just doesn't feel like it has as much mobility... more difficult to use in stuff like Guilty Gear.

MAS sticks are probably the best shield you'd want if someone was coming at you with an axe... they're that durable...

It's an American style arcade stick that uses HAPP parts. Depending on the type of MAS stick (Ultimate/Competition/P360) the overall feel of the actual stick will differ... It feels WORLDS different from a Japanese style arcade stick (Hori/Sanwa/Seimitsu)... so yea... If you're already used to Hori, and like them, I'd say stick with that.

I always feel lucky that I live in an area that has a strong fighting game scene. Having a place to constantly compete in fighting games would be great for people who aren't so lucky.

Is there any explanation for the severe back pain every character in Tekken seems to suffer from? I love the series (have every game...even 4) but I can't stand that exact same animation with the death of every character. I was hoping with 6, they could at least made each person have a unique death animation.

The Single-Player mode for SCIII was frustrating. I remember hating it. At least it had that trick to get infinite money. I didn't play much Vs. Mode so I'm not sure why every dislikes it, but I'm sure there's a good reason.

You guys make good points about SF. I guess I have always been around people who played SF (and fighting games) hardcore but also casually (recognizing the characters). I think a lot of people will pick up SFIV for the nostalgia though. As I mentioned many many threads ago, the whole "I remember playing that..." factor when talking about fighting games (to casuals) will always remain.

People bitch about parrying? Why? Everyone watches "the" Daigo vid from EVO and thinks that shit happens all the time. If anything I've seen parrying used sparingly in competitive matches. A couple months ago I was at a local arcade and watched this guy beast people with Necro. Most of the time he would parry when it would benefit him setting something up, not because he could.

Not everyone can parry and I actually like that it punishes mashers/fireball spammers.

I know a few of you picked up "NeoGeo Battle Coliseum" (SNK Engrish FTW) and mine arrived today. I popped it in and about 5 minutes popped KoF XI back in because the lag was unbearable. I was wondering if any of your guys were experiencing lag while playing the game. I'm just about ready to fire up a later and perhaps if this is widespread enough we might see action similar to Card Fighters Clash. I agree that does suck. My Japanese copy of NGBC only has the long load times before matches. I never had a problem with in game slowdown of any kind.

Glad I kept my Japanese copies of NGBC and KOFXI. I am glad though that people are finally getting a chance to play these games in the U.S. Even though (as you mentioned) SNKPUSA is completely worthless.

hmm... I haven't gotten to the extra content yet, but from what I'm hearing, it's worth upgrading, but probably not at $50. It sure is purdy, though. And yeah, you can use a 360 controller. Just plug it in and it'll configure itself automatically to be exactly like the 360 version's controls.

NGBC arrived today. I messed around with it for about an hour and everything felt okay.

I was playing it on a PS3 through HDMI on a Plasma TV with one of the PS2 Sega Saturn pads. It feels overly sensitive compared to KOF XI on the same setup (I was accidently jumping a couple times a fight) but I didn't notice any slowdown. That being said, I had never played NGBC before today so I might not know what to look for.

Being away from fighting games for the last 4 days is rough. I thought about bringing at least my PS2 to Michigan with me, but scratched the idea in the end.

I roamed around the SRK boards and outside of in-house get togethers, the "main" fighting game arcades in Michigan are all dead. Bummer.

In response to MarkMan's question, I haven't done most of my X-mas shopping. The only gift I've bought are HD-DVD's for my stepdad. My girlfriend and friends know I'll get their gifts when I get back from my trip.

RD: There is a chance, but it's not that high as of right now. Really the console releases are going to totally depend on how well Tekken 6 does in the arcades. In the US it's going to do shitty as usual. You'll be lucky to see an American version of the game. But Namco's waiting to see how it does in Korea/Japan/and other Asia regions.

But I really hope it does come out on 360. Even if it is based on PS3 hardware, I'm sure they can dumb down the graphic engine a tad and make the game system playable on the 360.

The more exposure for my favorite series the better :P !

But yea, expect console news on Tekken 6 in March.

i can see it happening partially also based off of sales of Soul Calibur IV. if that sells very well on both 360 and ps3, the pull for tekken would probably happen.

All I know is doesn't matter what KOF game it is, Kyo & Iori are gonna be high on the list. But seriously I try not to pay too much attention to tiers. If I'm using a high tier character it makes me feel cheap. It's just better to not even know.

I played some Bleach Shattered Blade with a friend for Wii. Didn't really like it, but I was coming off of a weekend of VF5. Didn't seem to have much strategy other than using your best attacks.

They were referring to how when they were drawing the sprites for Chun-li in SF3 they had originally planned for her thighs to be pretty normal size (think sf2 model) but because multiple artists were working on the same models they kept adding and adding as time went on, so her thighs got ginormous.

If you have any character that can do an "upper cut" like move, you can kill Magaki without taking any damage. Just lock him in the corner via a knockdown or something (the hard part) and uppercut as he begins rising or just before, he never blocks it. Rinse, repeat, and cheap kill the cheap bastard snk boss! Also if you don't want to do it that way, I would suggest you spam the sidestep roll dodge thingy because 90% of his attacks are freaking projectiles.
