Which should I take?

Alright, I (like some others here) am moving into college soon. Now I have to make a very tough decision. Which of my consoles should I take? The Gamecube is out because it's really more like my brother's, and he wants to keep it. So I'm basically down to choosing between my XBox and PS2. I would take both, but it would take up more room. So I have to choose between which of the two consoles I want to take. Right now I'm leaning towards the XBox because of XBox Live and better multiplayer than the PS2, but the PS2 has more RPGs and is a DVD player (I don't have the XBox DVD kit). So basically, which one do you guys think I should take?

Bleh, I hated chosing, I left my GC last year... the effect college had on my video gaming was one of the reasons I decided to tranfser and commute.

Bring the Xbox... I wasn't able to pay enough attention to my RPGs at school.

XBOX!! XBLive will really be handy for playing with you buddies back home, and will be very convenient for college (as long as you will be able to get broadband there).

Just drop the $25-30 for the DVD playback kit!!

PS2, it small sleak and sexy and no matter what game comes out this holiday season there a damn good chance if it's not exclusive to the ps then it's available for the ps. There aren't to many cube and box only games, most are ps2 and cube, think viewtiful joe, or ps2 and xbox, think damn near anything.

Just stand the PS2 vertically, it takes up about 2 inches of surface space for gods sake. Surely you have two inches.

The only reason I don't want to take both is laziness, really. But I'm pretty close to my house (going to school in the city, and I live in north Jersey), so I think I may just bring both eventually. But the only PS2 game I'm looking forward to is Star Ocean, which I can wait for. I'm actually rooming with a good friend of mine who has a PS2, but he's trying to act "cool" and not be a gamer anymore, so he's not planning on bringing it. But I think the XBox will be coming down first.

I think he'll realize it after a few weeks, but I'm going to let him live in his little fantasy where he's not a geek. I'm going to NYU, though. I'm sure there will be a lot of other gamers there. And, if not, I know a lot of you guys are in the NY area.

XBOX just because of it's integrated 4 player controller ports. But to be honest, I only played my Gameboy when I was in college. Having game console ruined part of my college life, it sucked too much of my precious studying and sleeping time (yes, you have to study in college)

I'd go with PS2 just for the sheer amount o fgames it has. there's jk 3 and R&C3 coming out, etc. You probably have more games for that system as well. I also like that system's controls over the Xbox's. Plus, since you wi9ll be going to college and you probably won't be living off of your parent's money anymore, you already have the DVD remote so you won't ahve to buy another.

My money is on you'll eventually have close access to a PS2 very shortly, whether it be your own or your roomate's. But definitely take the XBOX. Halo itself is a beacon to other gamers.

I'd suggest Xbox, if you plan to do multiplayer gaming (which is one of the best things to do in a dorm). When I was away at school, I had my PS2, GC, and Xbox and played the Xbox for at least an hour every day (8-16 player Halo never got old) and really didn't play PS2 or GC much at all, except when a big game like GTA:VC or Zelda came out.

Anyways, I don't have a PS2 but I do have a GC and Xbox. With XBL, you should take your xbox if you will be able to have a broadband connection. Really, I think you will miss your PS2 very quickly if you don't bring it.

THey shouldn't be too adverse to since it isn't a bandwidth hog like file sharing apps.

One way to squeeze in the PS2 is to install a big hard drive and use HDLoader. That way you won't take up any space with the games themselves. Of course, you could also mod the Xbox to do the same thing for games that won't be used with XBL.

I know at my school, The College of New Jersey, they seriously limited the ammount of bandwith you could use so even with a T1 line you would often only get about the speed of a 56k. I never heard of anyone connecting their xbox to Live.

Thinking more, our server wouldn't allow us to use Napster or any other filesharing program so it seems very possible that they will not allow Live.

Unless you're living in a cardboard box, sacrificing a system isn't going to save you any real space.

There really shouldn't be a choice - just don't bring every game you own and you're ace.

Dude there will be plenty of room for both. Dorm rooms are tiny but you can cram an ungodly amount of stuff in there if you get creative.

I'm going to be a HS senior and I'm considering NYU for a university. What kind of GPA/ SAT scores did you have etc?

And go wit hthe system that has more games that you like.

I'd take ps2 because I have 100+ games for it

I'm making me a game tower, with xbox for the base, ps2 on top of that and dreamcast and Gamecube side my side on top of that. I works great cuz the 'box and ps2 are both front loading, and 'cube and DC are top loading. I then keep all my games in a 288 CD binder. All told, it hardly takes up any room. I just keep all the xtra controllers in a bin under my bed.

I like the tower, I have crammed all my game stuff into a very small space if required, I would suggest taking both myself also. If you are going to take one, it really depends on what you play the most. The Box is good for the multi-player games, which would probably be the most fun in the dorms.

We had to run the XBox through a router before we could get Live to active when I lived in NYU housing. The network registers your computer to the port, so it gets confused when you try to run something else through it. We essentially tricked it into thinking the router was my roommate's computer. I'm assuming that the udergrad network limitations will be identical as the law school.

Oh, also, from what I've seen, the undergrad dorms are tiny as hell - even smaller than my room in undergrad. You really should try to limit yourself to one system. Even that small bit of added clutter really makes your room seem a lot smaller, especially since you're dealing with a piece of hardware that you'll want to handle with care.

Well, games won't be too much of a big deal, because I think I'll just take a few of my more favorite games and put them in a CD wallet to save a lot of room. I think I'm going to take the XBox first, and then maybe bring the PS2 later (especially if it turns out Star Ocean kicks ass.

I had a 1430 SAT and a 4.3 or so GPA. I also applied early decision. However, each school has different requirements. Steinhardt (education) and Stern (business, where I'm going) are much harder to get into than the others. For them, they want a 3.8 GPA or so and 1300-1400 on SATs. Arts and Sciences is probably easier, and I think Tisch is based much more on auditions. Still, it seems to be a great school, but just don't expect to have the same kind of college campus feel as you would at another school. Another advantage to NYU- Olsen Twins. :D

I'd take them both. If you can only take one I'd go with the Xbox for multi-player options and Halo.

I'm up north in Bergen. I'm really close to New York City, and the closest mall and stuff is in New York state.
