I just swapped my Wii Menu picture for an Okami avatar. I decided between this, Final Fantasy 7, and Halo 3 before settling on the Okami. Are any of you going to download the Photo Channel just so you can swap out the avatar with one of your own?
As a matter of fact, it's actually the first time I've even attempted / bothered to use the Photo Channel. I can see myself revolving a number of images through my Wii Menu. How about you?

I'm trying to decide if its worth the tradeoff for losing mp3 playback.

Since I never use the Photo channel but I'm always looking at the Wii Menu, I think it's worth it.

I'm trying to decide if its worth the trade off for losing mp3 playback. You can download the new version of the channel and then revert back to the original version by going into data management and erasing the photo channel. The version 1.0 channel will return in its place along with the mp3 playback.
I'm trying to decide if its worth the tradeoff for losing mp3 playback.
Yeah, that sucks big time. I liked putting on slide shows of the kids and cats with some Pink Floyd playing in the background. What was the reason they took this out? This is the worst thing Nintendo has done in recent memory IMO.
As for what you are doing Zen, I've never even heard of that! They allow you to have backgrounds for the Wii menu now? I like that idea, but I also like the MP3 playback... Meh...
I'll probably opt for the upgrade, though, as I tend to prefer the slide shows on the 360 anyway because of the HD. But the removal of the usefulness of the Photo Channel and music playback makes those SD cards pretty worthless to have. And here I thought they'd come up with MORE reason to have that removable storage as the Wii aged - not LESS reason to have it!

It doesn't remove music playback just MP3 support

Now if I read correctly, did the Wii itself lose MP3 format..or JUST the photo channel...???

Just the Photo Channel. Excite Truck and the like can still play .mp3s.

Just for the Photo Channel slot. It's not an entire desktop theme change. But its still really cool. Get a really high resolution picture of something awesome and put it in there and suddenly the Photo Channel seems a hundred times more awesome.

If anyone wants to change their mp3s to aac/m4a.

Was there a blue light for this or a quiet update? I don't leave my Wii on standby anymore.

Good to know, and important to my decision to upgrade. thanks.

Update? Do a system update by means of the notice that Nintendo sent. OR just go to your settings, do a "Wii System Update".
After that, go into the shop channel. Go to WiiWare and you'll see PhotoChannel 1.1 at the bottom.
If that's what you're asking. Is it?

No, I meant changing the picture like Zen talked about. I should have clarified.

 You should of seen what I chose as my photo. In fact, no you shouldn't have. I took it off just in case anyone came over and turned on my Wii.
It wasn't an avatar, or anything like that. It was a personal pic on my SD card. And yes, it involves my significant other...Soooo.. anyway.. Yeah how bout that 1.1 update?! :-\"
I like it. I hope we get more useless updates that do make a bit of a difference. :D

Go into the photo channel. Pick the picture you want to view. Then at the bottom it will say post. Use that option and you ought to be good.

Right, but what else uses it besides Excite Truck? That's what I meant - there were 4 uses for the SD card at launch - mp3's for Excite Truck (which I rented a long time ago), mp3's for the photo channel, the photos themselves, and as a backup for game saves/channels. Now 1 year later instead of there being tons of new uses (say, like, the ability to run VC games or saves from there, or DS demos, etc) they take AWAY one of the four uses of it. Nice...
(And I'm not going through the trouble of converting my mp3's to some other format - the convenience of being able to dump what I had on the SD card and having it work with no trouble was the key element of this feature).

If it did the wii menu background I would do it, but since its only the icon i don't really see the point. Im keeping the old just in case I take my wii somewhere and feel like listening to music. It helps that i use a microSD in my phone and therefore always have mp3's on it.
Also i love that nintendo basically said we are chaning the format even though are games use mp3's. kinda silly.

I like the update. It is cool to have a picture of my daughter on my Wii Menu.
