Hmm, just picked this up for $45. What is it worth?
Is the HL2 much better than if you play the original Xbox version on your 360?
I hear Episode I is so-so and Episode 2 is pretty good.
I hear the other games are hit-and-miss (not much Live action on TF?)
So far I'm not hearing $45 worth but the scores are fantastic.

Orange Box will be $15 off. So I'm guessing it'll be $15 off the current price which shows $60. So that means $45. Anyways, they'll have 2000 available at the price of $15 off.
Though the only thing is from what I have seen it's suppsoe to be 8am PST / 11am EST. Not 6PM PST. But whatever time it is, it's $15 off the price.

I'd guess $20 off also.
I'd be tempted if I hadn't picked up 20 new (ok, mostly cheap used) games for my new 360 already in November.
To put it politely, I wasn't a fan of HL2, but I'd give it a shot again. Maybe in 6 months when I can pick it up for $20 used.

DOTD is different from Lightning Deals. Lightning deals are in the "Today's Deals" link near the top. Click that and then it'll be to the right of the main gold box item of the day. DOTD is simple. Go to the videogames section and to the right there will be a link and a sign that says Deal of The Day.

Join the best buy reward zone, I get a packet of coupons about once a month.
You get lots of 10% off coupons but there is usually at least one 12% (when you show your card) coupon good on everything but your standard restrictions (Bose, Dyson, consoles, yada yada yada).
I got my last packet Wednesday but they expired Monday so I pulled the trigger on TOB.
There are also usually scans posted around the deal sites.

That's a great deal considering you're getting 5 good games.
The Orange Box is known to be the best deal in video game history, and that's priced at $60.
Also remember that there is no TAX or SHIPPING.
I can can tell you right now that you will not find this game any cheaper brand new, maybe you'll find it at $40 someday but then more likely it's in a store so you will use up gas to get there and pay tax.

HL is OK, if you have nothing elso to play. The graphics are from old xbox.
Portal makes you think. its a lot of fun. it's not all that easy at times.
Portal ends pretty quick and makes you want to play more. It should have been an arcade game, but it might be too short for that as well.
TF2 is also alot of fun, but I think it only has 6 maps, no campaign.
I dont know if people still play it alot online, so dont pay full price, wait for a great deal.

Yeah, see, I haven't purchased an Xbox 360 yet (about to go on a Falcon hunt), and they never had achievements with the old Xbox on Live, so I'm not really sure what the big deal is. Is a high gamerscore all about street cred? Cause the whole concept doesn't really grab me.

Achievements are kinda cool when you earn them without actually going for them. But theres no real point in them unless you compete with your friends for a higher gamerscore. They usually dont make the game any more fun.

Think of it like the high score lists they had back in the old arcade days. The points are mainly for bragging rights and have no real value. Depending on the game, the achievements will either make you play the game in new and different ways (I think Dead Rising had some good ones), or they'll be utterly devoid of creativity (see Eragon).
I must admit that it's kinda fun trying to get all the achievements, especially for Viva Pinata and Dead Rising. It's a nice little feature that's completely optional, so you'll either like it or ignore it entirely.

This seemed to be the rage on the 360 till Call of Duty 4 came out, now It's just backseat behind Halo 3. The online play seems to suffer in lag and variety.

If your computer can run it, I'd suggest getting it for PC.

Hmm. Do I use my $25 GC and knock it down to $20? Then I'd have to pay for shipping....ehh pass.
Actually, you'd still get free shipping, the GC is just part of your payment method.

I agree on your High Score List Comparison, but its span of all the games you've played all together. Dead Rising did have some good Achievements though. I saw it at E3 and wasn't too impressed, but then I Gamefly'd it and the Achievements made me enjoy the game more than I thought I would.
Achievements can extend the lifespan of a game, whether you enjoy the game or not. You can sometimes find yourself playing games you wouldn't normally play just to get Achievements.
Once you start, achievements can suck you in.

Ordered the game, sweet!
I would love to jump all over this, but I have reached the point where I just can't justify any more game purchases this year. Next year though...

If you got Half Life 2: Orange Box for the Xbox 360 during the Lightning deal, drop amazon an email asking for a price match and get an extra $10 back, bringing the total you paid to $34.99.
Just to clarify:
<Thanks to ashori>
Okay look when we bought Orange Box for Lightning deal, it was
59.99-15.00=45.99
but now, the orange box is 49.99
so we payed 10 dollars too much
should be 49.99-15.00=35.99 via the Amazon price protection policy.
And for those who need the number:
<thanks to GotDeal?>
1) Call 1-866-216-1072
2) Press 7
3) Say hi how are you? then give them all the needed info (order#, email, address, etc)
4) Tell them your friend just did an adjustment on half life orange box to bring it down to $34.99.
5) Say the gold box price was $59.99 - $15 and now it should be $49.99 - $15 = $34.99. (or dont even mention this at all since the gold box discount is taken off in the promo/gift card area)
