I love how the Wii boards turn into the happiest of parties sometime...
How many people would like to see Statistics by the time we're done with things? I mean, thins like "what was the most popular/least popular of the titles given? What was the most expensive gift, and what it contained?" etc...

This is a neat idea.
What do you mean by "what it contained"..it sounds like people are sending VC games laced with anthrax..

My ssp mentioned he liked puzzle games, looked it up on ign and that one actually featured a level designer (exclusive for the wii's vc) so I thought it would be a good choice turned out to be a choice between that or wario's woods for him and wc obviously won via random pick of paper
demoes for vc games would kick ass though..

When this is done, Zen, you gotta post the chain of SS'! Like who had someone..and who they had..and so on and so forth!
Played through the first level of Kirby before the batteries in my Wiimote died. Note to self - acquire rechargeables. Lots of fun times to be had (and the girlfriend will probably love it too, always a plus).
I'll say this about the VC gifting - it's going to inspire a lot of impulse purchases. Not in a bad way, but after playing some Kirby tonight, I can think of a few games that are on the VC that I'd love to pick up (namely, Adventure Island). Me thinks I'll pick up a points card tomorrow and add a few more games to my Wii. Wonderful, wonderful idea by Nintendo.
I, too, researched my SSP. Almost went with the standard Mario games, but saw he had them in other formats via IGN.

Rocko made a mention that anyone who didn't get their games on time was impatient. Now although the person he can send his games to has a black name in his addressbook, the person he can receive games from is still gray. I find that ironic.
The difference between you case and Rocko is that he got in contact with me through the thread. Had he entered his numbers earlier on though and made a mention about his secret santa not going black, I would have replaced his secret santa as well.
Anyway, MY fuckING Power just went out! They came back but I hope they don't go out again but it's freezing!

I feel your pain, but there's no need to throw a fit over this. Perhaps Zen was a little too worried about this project, since so much of it relies on good will to begin with, but he was rather clear about the requirements.
I certainly feel that this sucks for you. However, if I was in Zen's shoes, I'd have done the same, especially with the pressure. In light of how the rest of this thread is behaving recently, it seems that Zen's decisions made this idea a success. Nobody is dissappointed as of yet.

Not dead. Heh, she said "what?" and I had to be all like "nothing, sorry."
The living room is occupied by my wife's sister. She played some Super Mario Galaxy today, and beat Petey Pirahna without getting hit once.
My brother-in-law is sleeping in the "office" bedroom. I have no place in our little apartment to make noise in.
I think I should go to sleep, but this book that I'm reading is fun and awesome.
Anyway, I'll talk to you gang tomorrow sometime, in between rounds of Super Mario Bros. 2 PROPER and StarFox 64!

You should update this list, being that it's conveniently located on top of page 17 for me, and that's a sweet age, because it's the age of consent in Texas. (Hell yeah, I know -that- law.)

I woke up early at 6:30 this morning and ran downstairs to see the blue glow of my Wii. It must be Christmas! :)
It's taken me almost an hour to catch up on the party that this thread turned into last night, and I finally got to send my gifts.
Received: Bomberman '93 and Heady Dynamite. Ever since Heady was released on VC, I've thought, "Hmm... well that sounds weird. But in a fun way." Now I get to try it. Awesome!
Sent: To Chakon: Actraiser and Magician Lord. Now that I've sent it, I see that he sent it to his person, too! But I didn't get a warning from the system that he had it, so I hope he's happy with it.
And then I sent a copy of Actraiser to Zen for all his work. Show someone you care this Christmas. Give them Actraiser.

What was that about patience?
Rocko made a mention that anyone who didn't get their games on time was impatient. Now although the person he can send his games to has a black name in his addressbook, the person he can receive games from is still gray. I find that ironic.
Um, what? Can you read?
Go bold, damn you, I want to send gifts!
The person who I can receive games from was black (and sent them sometime while I was sleeping, thanks!) but the person who I am sending to was and still is gray.

The only thing this wonderful new gift feature is missing, is to.."Exchange".
I mean seriously.
You can deny the gift and the person that sends it gets their points back. That's pretty cool to know.
But what if someone sent you an N64 game..you didn't want THAT N64 game..but something else? I think we should be able to exchange them for games OR just claim the points.
That's why a lot of people get gift receipts. You don't like it, you can get a store credit. I think this would make the gifting feature just THAT much more awesome.

If you have the Internet channel, and don't use it often...I'd say delete that. That was 233 (around that number) blocks. THEN delete the save file for it, that's 37 more blocks.

I seriously hope that that it's a simple case of CAG B being unable to send it at this time for some reason or another, because I seriously hope that whomever it is wouldn't run the risk of destroying their credibility on the site by shafting someone out of a present over something as small as a VC game.

It doesn't even take that long to download. Maybe that's why nintendo has never pushed using sd cards for VC storage and recommends just deleting them and redownloading them.

I think it would be hard to get together a group of CAG birthday people together. While getting a plethora of games on your birthday sounds nice, not many people will be willing to dish out 20-30-however many games a year, I'd say, and how can you be sure someone won't wait until their birthday and then drop out?

WR64 was very disappointing. I expected much better from the game. Hopefully my view on it will change with more play. I want to have fun with NG 2, but it's so damned hard. If only I grew up with NES. But then again, if I grew up with NES, Super Mario Galaxy would be even more of a cake walk. :/ <- Me being a whiny asshole
I think I will throw around a couple ideas and do the math to see if CAG birthday gifting would work without anybody getting screwed.
As long as their "birthday" is once a year, I don't think it would matter.
Ninja Gaiden is ALL practice. Practice, practice, practice until you get the timing down. It's literally like learning and becoming good at a new sport.

And this gentleman already had his games received and nobody complained about him. He was going to get booted tomorrow and receive negative feedback but he came through and sent his games.
Oh weird, but how could he have had enough time when you were booting people on the 15th?

Thanks chakan for the VC games. I'm starting in on Kirby in a little bit. My daughter, who has never seen Kirby before, started going nuts when she saw him fly in the demo. I think she'll like watching me play this one.
Oh, and as far as the birthday VC thing goes, today is my birthday so feel free to use up those extra points ;) - J/K - although it actually is my birthday.
Thanks Zen for all the work you put into this.

I think gift giving for other holidays would work better than birthdays , if only because there are less holidays in a year than CAGs having birthdays. I'm pretty confident in my calculations on that.8-)
Or maybe I'm only saying that since my birthday is in September , so I'd be waiting a while.
If there is to be some kind of Birthday committee to do this..there would have to be a lot of strict rules.
Clearly people who just join and say OH MY BIFDAY 2MORROW LOL :) ..won't be able to participate. We would be looking for people like the group we had here..and then extend it.
There would have to be something to come up FAST as January 2008 will be here soon.
Overall, I think it would work well as long as we had a group of people whom where serious about it.
The concept in my head on how it would work is..that we would have sign ups. The rules would have to be strict as we don't want to have assholes apart of the thing, and people whom are only looking to receive. But if you throw in your birthday, you would HAVE to participate in buying games for people throughout the year. Now that might sound expensive & crazy, but I don't think it would be required for EVERYONE to ALWAYS send something..as that would be kinda insane.
Also sign ups would have to be a certain amount of months before your birthday. No signing up like 3 weeks before your birthday..get your gift(s) and then drop out.
Of course that's just a rough idea, and if anyone else had ANY input..then go right ahead.
An idea like that could work, but it would be a team effort. Not so much a 1 man show like Zen is doing with this.
OR, we can just find an excuse and to do this for all the upcoming holidays. I think a Secret Valentine thing would be HILARIOUS..and yet, fun at the same time!

Because I made an arrangement with one CAG to send his games earlier since he wouldn't be here. Since CAG B already received games, I had no choice but to wait to see if he would pull through.

A birthday thing might work if you set up different groups. there might be some people who are more than willing to send 20 games out throguh the year and receive 20 on their birthday, but setting up leagues of, say, 5 would be nice for anyone who just wants to do a small exchange.

Best Tip ever. Nothing's Worse in that game then to be running down a path and going for a jump , then having a fucking bird fly out of nowhere and knock you back into the pit. Everyone who plays Ninja Gaiden probably suffers more bird deaths than anything else.
But at least it happens less often than in the first game.

Genuinely the first game in a many number of years that literally forced me to improve my reflexed and memory in order to get as far as I did. I still haven't managed to beat it even though I'm on the final level of the first game. Thank god the Wii can save where you left off in NES games. Yeah, I see what you are saying and I agree with it.
I think things could get divided up into seasons. Jan-Mar Apr-Jun Jul-Sept Oct-Dec and those people who are born in those months only buy for those who are ALSO born in those months.
The only thing we wouldn't know for sure is the turnout for each section. Which may in fact have to just make a random 4-5 groups. Because you can have 23 people on CAG born between April May and June..and yet, July August and September only 4 people were born.
Overall, there DEF has to be some strict guidelines to it.

No.
I was getting all excited for this last night, especially once I saw what new games were coming this Monday. Then I learn that, because I didn't get back to you in time (with no mention of anything about a time limit or reply ASAP in your PM I might add) which is apparently a day before the thing even goes down, I can no longer "get in on this."
Then you offer to be my SS. Well what is the point if I already know who it is? Its like I said when daroga had that first thread going, I might as well just buy the games I want for myself.
Now that this entire thing has been a great waste of time between trying to drive home a couple hours earlier to see whats going on before the 16th hits and trying to get the Wii setup with the wireless router here at my parent's house, I do not want the potential for you to screw up something else by trying to put me in some other person's spot.

Agreed. I could always make it to the end of the first game on the nes. But even IF you could make it past the three hardest normal stages in the game , then you had to fight three hard bosses in a row. I could beat the first but never the second or third. If you die , guess what? Back to the three levels of hell for you.

Well, it you spread people into groups of 4 & 5, then this become very managable whereas you don't don't have to get 20 - 25 birthday gifts. That would seem very hard to manage.

I have to disagree. I only see one Tier 1 person of the entire 38 or so currently listed that didn't go the extra mile and even then, at least they didn't scam anyone.
As a matter of fact, I never researched my person. I picked out my gifts back in November. Does this mean I'm exluded SSP 2007? ;)

I think Christmas and 4th of July would work best.

Although I do agree that 4th of July and Christmas would probably be the two best ones to do , there was one idea I had , since some like lilboo really seem to want to do this kinda thing more ofter.
Each month of the year pick one holiday , then pick like 15 or 20 games that might fit the theme of the holiday. That would make it kinda like a holiday themed grab bag , and if each months set had registrations like a month or so in advance then that would let cags that may not be interested in the games up for grabs that month choose not to participate. The biggest problem I could find for doing it that way is that it would kinda take out some of the surprise of what you might get.
I'll try to come up with an example to use for my idea in a little bit.

Now now Zen dont be like that.:)
Although yes January does have slim pickings since it would either be New Years or MLK day. I'd almost take that as a challenge though , so I'll get back to you on that. 8-)
To use a simplier example though , I'll use lilboo again with the suggestion of Valentines Day. For Val. D these games would be up for gifting :
Balloon Fight
Kid Icarus
Kirby's Adventure
Wario's Woods
Yoshi
Kirby's Avalanche
Kirby's Dream Course
Yoshi's Story
Columns
Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco 2 : The Tides of Time
Ecco Jr.
Bomberman '93
Cratermaze
Drop Off
The Dynastic Hero
Blues Journey
Now if you look at that list you might see a couple of patterns.
1. Everything has mostly a cute theme to it.
2. There are exactly 1/10 the games from each system.
3. I picked the games based on the theme NOT on quality , although fortunatly , the only really lousy games the theme produced were Ecco Jr. , Drop Off and Blues Journey.
So if anyone was interested in any of the above mentioned games , they would register for that holidays gifting , if not they would pass.

I can understand your trepitation (is that the right word?) towards another one of these so soon. I could see waiting a few weeks , months to let it settle in and see if anyone is still game to do it again. But to borrow the thoughts of crystalklear64 , getting something from someone else , even if its something you were probably going to get for yourself is more interesting I think then just going in and buying it for yourself like anything else. Like even if I was going to buy Kirby for myself , it would cooler / more fun to get it from someone else. But maybe thats just me.
As for your MLK day thing , even though you may have meant it as a joke or not , I took it as a serious challenge. So here's what I came up with:

Contra 3
Gradius 3
Starfox 64
Dynamite Headdy
Gunstar Heroes
Sonic 3D Blast

Man, I can't believe how awesome The Secret Levels are, though. So far, I've been having a ball. Seeing a blooper in a non-water level already made me realize that I was in the right place at the right time with this game.
Thank you, guys. Really. I don't think that constant Secret Santaing would be a good idea, but twice a year sounds perfect. Furthermore, we -can- bring up Birthdays, just in a less official way.

Ultimately , i say whether we did this once a month , once a year , twice a year or whatever , should be left to whoever to voice there opinion on it. Part of the reason I mentioned using a smaller list of games was so that if someone wasn't interested in what was available they didn't have to participate. I wouldn't actually expect everyone who was psrt of the SSP to particapate in all of the monthly giftings. You could gift as much or as little as you would want to.
Something else I should've mentioned before with my idea is that because the game pool would be smaller so would the spending amount. I would only be expecting about 500-1000 points. Just enough for 1 or 2 games.

Black people = shooters? ;)
My only concern is that it may water down the festivities and go on to become too much of a good thing. I mean if there is a theme to be had, that's one thing, but to force a theme on something can be trying too hard.
That's just my opinion and more power to you but if you hold one of these every month, by the time Christmas 2008 comes around, will the Christmas 2008 SSP be any different than the 11 others before it?
At the most, and you'd be seriously pushing it, would be to hold one of these every four months or so. But every month could easily dilute the specialness of a SSP-type project.
But seriously, if you think you can pull it off, go for it. I don't want to be a negative nanny.

Black people = shooters? ;)
I knew you or someone else was gonna make that comment , I just knew it.:)
Hey , it could have been worse. Would you rather me pick Punch Out or Double Dribble or Donkey Kong?
Well put , and concern has been noted. Even I'm not sure that it would be a good idea or not , I was simple putting the idea out there since a few others seemed interested in doing this more often. As I said , and you seem to agree , if anyone else is interested let them show there interest and if everyone thinks its a bad idea then we can simply keep it a once a year and I would be totally happy with that.

The stats so far (I'll make a graph once all of the results are in)
Most gifted: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Kirby's Adventure with 6 each. $60 in Wii Points there.
The next tier is Kid Icarus, Ninja Gaiden 2, Sin & Punishment, Super Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with 3 gifts each. $120 in Wii points there, total $180 so far.
After that we have Donkey Kong Country 2, Dynamite Headdy, Star Fox 64, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, The Adventures of Lolo, The Legend of the Mystical Ninja, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past bringing in 2 gifts each. $106 in Wii Points there alone, total $286 in Wii points so far.
The final tier, with one gift each:
Breath of Fire 2
Contra III
Devil's Crush
Donkey Kong Country
F-Zero
Kirby's Dream Course
Landstalker
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Magical Lord
Neutopia
Paper Mario
Pokemon Snap
Punch-out!
Shining Force
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic The Hedgehog 3
Splatterhouse
Streets of Rage 2
Super Castlevania 4
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario World
The Legend of Zelda
Wave Race 64
Wonder Boy in Monster World
Wrecking Crew
total with the final tier is $303 in Wii Points, for a grand total of $589 given to Nintendo. (the two final figures are most likely off a little)

More people should have been given Wonder Boy In Monster World. Totally overlooked.
By the way, you shoudl add on another The Legend of The Mystical Ninja to that list.

I would. But I'm weird that way.
I've bought a lot of VC games , Zen can back me up on this I sent him a list. With Zelda : OoT that I got from my santa , I now have 40 games. Almost 1/3rd of all the titles available to download. I usually download one or two games every week (on mondays when the new titles come out) so doing a gifting game or something through out the year would make things a little more interesting for me. But I don't expect a lot of CAGs to share my sentiments and thats fine , to each there own.

Yeah, but you're probably like 1% of Wii owners who do that. I haven't bought a VC game for at least two months until today.
Maybe you can send some random CAG a gift every month?

Sure why not? We could make a contest / game out of it and the winner gets a VC game.

Ok, I went and waited for a damn Wii last night for 5 fucking hours, bringing my total camping-out-time for the system (including last year) to 24 hours of my life.
Fun.
When I got back, I passed out. My hands STILL feel cold and dull. This thread exploded since then, so I had to catch up.
At any rate, I sent The Dynastic Hero and Landstalker. My Santa had almost all of the good games I had originally thought about sending. I would have sent Wonder Boy in Monster World, but for some reason, it's now 800 as well, when it should be 600. And I figure since the price is now the same, I'll send the one with the CD quality music, which seems to be really good.
My SS sent me a message this morning saying that they would send their stuff tonight, as they were heading to work and couldn't do so earlier because my name was not bold on their side. Which I apologize for, but I still have the unique excuse of having my entire list full to 100, and desperately want Nintendo to give me a way to add more Address Book entries. But I have temporarily deleted some people that I'll add again later, and use the slots I have now for the SSP.
Anyway, I think it's turning out really well thus far, and I'm glad to see so many people having a good time with it.
If we decide to extend this to other events such as birthdays, I agree that it should be kept somewhat sparse, since that could dull the excitement after a while.
Also, boo to Nintendo for 1) no hard drive and 2) no play-from-SD-card support, since I imagine the current limitations are going to become unmerciful very soon for a lot of people.

Oh wow!!
This was weird.
I was out all day, and I come home..and my Santa sent me 2 more games!
I got Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (I played that BARELY once many moons ago. Always wanted to play that all the way)..and Legend of the Mystical Ninja!!
Thank you, Santa ^_^
Oh also, I agree. I don't think we should do the gifting often. Yeah, it's fun and by all means if you ever want to send someone a game for whatever reason.. Do it! But having some Christmas in July Secret Santa would be fun. Twice a year (pretty much 6 months apart) is fair enough and fun.
I mean, if you EVER want to give out games..hold raffles. Hold contests. I am having a contest now in the Contests forum for making banners for the 2008 Wii Shop thread. I just want another reason to give another gift :)

Yep. This is pretty hard. But I remember buying some kinda of upgrade to ride on tiger or something. My memory is kinda of foggy. I used lot of cheat codes back then for level warping.
So when is Pocky & Rocky (SNES) coming out? (I hope I spelled that right  )
Damn, that first boss, the ghost, beat me with her flying saucer attack b4. I beat there was a third with that six stories high. I had to whack with my tiny club.

CLICK ON IT.
Neat, huh? Prior to my posting of the mp3, I had no idea how to do redirects with PHP (and used JavaScript instead). I used the "header()" object, and I grossly prefer it to its javascript counterpart.

Hmmm, I still think of playing more Super Mario 3 without skipping levels. No uses of whistles at all. I keep falling of the cliffs or something a lot. Hmmm, I would be more motivated if I had some rechargable batteries w/ charger. Zelda (SNES), I beat like 5 times already. I'm not sure what I'm going to do this time around beside collect all the hearts (esp. the one in the digging game in the dark world).
Now if only my feedback would match my SN then I might have perfect harmony (total balance of power and ability to abuse Zen Davis as I see fit).
