I realize maybe 1 CAG out there is interested so this one is for you:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IJJI/

It's for the Platinum one. Oddly enough, it's been coming in and out of stock. Maybe it's because some people were wondering: "can I upgrade this to a Wii?" (real comment).

They're $30 used at Gamestop. Since Gamecubes are so reliable I don't see anything wrong with buying them used, plus you can get one with a component video jack.

If I didn't have a Gamecube, this is what I would do. I would also include a GBPlayer for an extra $20.

No component jack on the new. Oddly enough, the component cables are still going for $30-$40 on EBay; which reminds me, I gotta sell mine, they are just going to waste on a shelf unused...

I'm still holding on to my little cube--it's fully decked out w/ component cables and a matching GB player. One of my favorite systems ever in terms of design, so I just can't part with it...

For $60 it's a lot of system, and since you can't even *FIND* a Wii, giving that out as an option is kind of like poking someone in the eye when they're not looking. Thanks OP.

That's the set-up I have. I paid $150 for the 'Cube (with SSBM), and full price for the GBPlayer. But I did find the component cable used at GS for only $4.99!8-) And the handle makes it so portable!;)

For the past 5 years, it would have sucked to ONLY own a GC but this was a really great second (or third) system to have.

Anyone who hasn't played Pikmin, should give it a try . . . one of my favorites of the last generation and available used in the $10 range.

Gamecube could have been a contender.

Best graphics, meh controller, worst format.

I have a working Gamecube from 2001, this almost tempted me (for a spare).

$39.99 might have been enough to make me think about buying another.

unfortunately finding NGC component cables is a totally discouraging adventure, as they often price out higher than the console itself :|

I should probably sell my component cables (had since 2002) and just play GC games on my Wii -- but hang onto my GC for sentimental reasons.

Wow, I am surprised at all the Cube bashing. If I didn't already a full setup, I would probably pick this up. I'm just not into the whole "get a used gamecube" through gamestop thing. We still have ours and tons of games for it. Plus when my 3yr old gets a little older, this will be a great system to use/abuse until she gets a little older. Tons of great games (I know you can play them on a wii) and it's nice to have on a second or third TV somewhere with this hooked up. It does kind of suck that they removed the component plug on the newer ones though.

Gamecube rocks. I would pick it up as a spare unit, or something for another room, or to take over to a friend's house or something... if I didn't already have the Wii.

But you know... with all the people complaining about not being able to find 1st party GCN controllers, which go for about 1/2 the price of that now... one could easily pick it up for the controller and just pawn off the system.

Definitely not bashing. I love the gamecube, and it has done me very well. I just was debating $59.99 as a price for it.

I picked up my N64 just before the Gamecube came out and I paid $59.99 for it. I was surprised that the Gamecube was still priced at $99.99 after the Wii came out. So while $59.99 may seem overpriced because of the glut of used systems on the market, I still think it's a fair price for it because many people don't like to buy used systems. IMO, the Gamecube was far better than the N64.

You would think that... but we are on our 3rd (new) one. I get about 16 months out of them and then they start 'clicking' when loading a disc and you start getting read errors or no disc errors.

Is there anything wrong with this Platinum version?

I keep seeing people post that the "old" GC had component output. Does this one?

Also, can I hook up a GBPlayer to this version?

I own a Wii, but still want a GC for outputting GBA games to an HDTV... so I'm interested in this one.

I'm heading out to a GameStop today to get a used Gamecube. No way I'm paying $60 new, even though I'd like the silver color. Nintendo hardware is extremely reliable, so I have no problem buying the system used.

There is nothing wrong with the platinum. I think it is the only version they sell now.

But this one DOES NOT have the component output. But they did make platinum with component output for a while (I have one). They stopped making component for any color about halfway through production. I'm not sure if they ever made non-component black or indigo though.

GBPlayer should work fine, but will look really pixelated on a large HDTV.

If they are nintendo brand and mint, you can get $70+ish for em

just against my principals to pay that much for cables, as I play my NGC about 1hour every 4 months anyway

Since this is the Amazon Deal of the Day and it seems no one made a thread for it earlier, I edited the title to reflect that. That may be why it is going in and out of stock - DotD brings more attention to it.

Not sure about indigo, but I have a black one and it "Does NOT" have component. I realized this after trading someone for a component cable and then going to plug it in. :( So, the buying a used one @ Gamestop for the component input would benefit me, but I still don't like buying used hardware.

As far as I know, if it plugs into the "digital out" connector on the gamecube (that, as mentioned, was phased out on later gamecubes), it's made by Nintendo, since Nintendo was the only one that manufactured those cables due to a proprietary chip inside them.

yeah the non nintendo ones are "universal component cables" but the component part only works w/ XBOX/PS2... but some Ebay/AMazon filthy thieves try to pass those off as "gamecube" component.

You can list all day for $70, the problem is who wants to buy them? Me and like 5 other people in the world, and I refuse to pay more than $30 for these :D

Speak for yourself homeboy, the only system that I've ever had stop working was a Gamecube. Got it new about a year after launch and it crapped out on me April of '06. Sad day, very sad day. I'd been holding out 'til I got a Wii, a hold-out that took over a year and a half!

I just checked ebay, and can't believe how many "compatible Gamecube" knockoff controllers are on there. They look exactly like the real thing, except for the brand.

I could have sworn I saw some authentic controllers at best buy or toys rus the other day. I only thought the wavebirds were hard to find though.

edit: best buy has them backordered online for $24.99

Good deal if you really want a new system. I picked up a used one off eBay 3 months ago for about $32 shipped. Came with a used jet black system, a 1st party controller, and 2 memory cards. Even though the system had quite a few surface scratches, I have yet to experience any issues playing games. The controller it came with had some wonky buttons; still playable but I went ahead and got another controller.

I know quality of used merchandise varies greatly in a place like eBay but just wanted to share a positive experience I had.

to answer the component cable question - the very early cubes had the digital out so the cube could output in 480p. they dropped that feature fairly early because the demand for this feature was pretty low. i haven't seen the feature on any cube other than a black one. also, if you want digital out (and can find one) the wii is the better route to go because it will output digital sound. the cube only did digital video.

To the OP - I must be the 1 person out there who found this useful. Thanks for pointing it out. I collect new cube stuff - this is a great price for a new cube for any cube collectors out there. On that same note, I collect sealed cube stuff (games, systems, accessories etc), so if anyone has any stuff to get rid of pm me.

In for one!

My black 'Cube (along with Halloween controllers - one black and one orange) sits unloved in the closet. The Wii has taken its place, but man, I had some awesome times with the 'Cube. Pikmin, Zelda, Sunshine, SSB, Eternal Darkness, etc. - so many great games on that system.

I love it so. <3
