View Full Version : Free Metroid Prime 2 demo disc ...

Not sure if this is the correct forum but you can get the Metroid Prime 2 demo disc if you subscribe to Nintendo Power, or register 5 games plus your Nintendo Gamecube. Alternatively, you can get the demo disc by buying the Nintendo Gamecube Metroid Prime package for $99.99, which includes Metroid Prime plus the bonus disc that contains the MP2 demo, two trailers, gallery and a history of the Metroid series.

That's a sadly expensive way of getting a demo methinks. And Nintendo Power is just trash these days.. I got the sub. to get the Zelda disc and have yet to enjoy a page of a single issue.

Nintendo Power just sucks Nintendo's dick throughout the whole mag. They don't give any really bad scores, even when the games are shitty. The whole mag is an advertisement for
Nintendo.

It's a magazine from Nintendo, what did you expect, really? You want them to lose customers and spend money and time covering other consoles?

5 games does seem like a lot. Especially when Sony is always sending out demos for free to it's Playstation Underground members.
Nice to see Nintendo is offering playable demos though.

If you guys want to read a great history on Nintendo Power you should read David Sheff's Game Over. In his book, Sheff documents that Nintendo Power was originally used as way of making or breaking a game since the mag was the most read gaming mag for a long time when it debuted. Nintendo used put threaten developers with bad review scores if they didn't comply with Nintendo's unnofficial rules, like only releasing games on Nintendo's platform and not any competitors. Now that the mag is nowhere near its original popularity (think Michael Jackson) its amazing to see how pathetic they still are. kaji7p56 hit the nail on the head - they don't care about making a good magazine. Nintendo Power is just a catalogue for Nintendo games, even if they suck total ass.

my stores usually just throw those codes out actually. The codes can only be used once of course, so if someone already rented the game and registered the code, you are out of luck.

You can still use this toward the next promotion because my codes from the zelda promotional are still valid toward this promotion. They did however require 5 games registered rather than 3.

Anyways, I like Nintendo Power. I don't go to them for News or reviews, I go to EGM for that. But what other gaming mags dont have is what I buy NP for: Strategy. Its like mini-excerpts from some of their games. I know I could could just go to GameFAQs, but having a map right there is so much better. That's why I like Nintendo Power.

Yes, you can "double-dip". I registered three games for Zelda before X-mas. I've since then registered at least 3 more. I found the section and clicked on the link, since I already had the games registered all I had to do was press a button to confirm I want one!!!
All you have to do is go nintendo.com and log into your account. If you don't have one, they're free. Just like alot of boards (such as this fine one!) . Then, find the link for the promotion. It should be easy, they have banners everywhere.

Wtf are people COMPLAINING about the demo?
Its a REWARD for people who enjoy Nintendo games and continue to support the Big N.
And you people begging for codes, if you only need ONE MORE, just go buy another excellent Nintendo game for $20 (like Mario Golf for GBA, $20 after GGC @ BB this week) instead of begging those of us who DO buy them to just give them to you.

This is why I am complaining.
Companies like Sony give out demos of their upcoming games for free to Playstation Underground members yet when Nintendo gives away a demo, they make you register 5 games?! I could maybe see having to register 1 game and even that seems excessive but having to register 5 games for a demo is a disgrace.
I don't think that if someone doesn't buy 5 games they should have to subscribe to Nintendo Power for close to $20 to get the demo either.
What I don't like is how Nintendo is either forcing someone to buy a lot of games or subscribe to a magazine to get something that IMO should be free or very inexpensive.
I didn't mind when Nintendo required everyone to register 2 games for the Zelda disc because that was a set of full games but for a demo of a game, it seems like they are asking too much for such a little reward.

It's not just "the most expensive ones" - it's Nintendo published titles dude, as far as I can tell. Has nothing to do with them trying to rip you a new one. It's a lot like Club Nintendo (sort of) in Japan except they get better rewards.

Let's take a quick look at how easy it is to get demos for new games!!! Shall we?

Quick question, I have enough game codes to get the free demo, but if I register them, are they essentially wasted? As in if they do another Zelda CE type promotion will the codes I used not be valid anymore? Or do they carry over for all give aways like this?

They're not making you go and buy a GameCube and five NGC games to get a demo ... it's a REWARD for people who have already bought those five games (and thereby directly supporting Nintendo since they're published in-house). They're rewarding you for supporting their game company.

The number of games you have registered will count towards the next promo, i.e. they will carry over...assuming they do another promo.
Speaking of Club Nintendo, has anyone seen what you can get for 600 points?

It just doesn't make sense, strategically. Demo disks shouldn't be rewards, they should just be there. Stores should give them out, and they should be packed with magazines in shitty cardboard sleeves. They should be released to get an idea of the company's product to as large of a potential audience as possible. Instead, this seems to get the demo to a relatively small audience.

you forgot one important detail. they are rewarding you for supporting their company...in the last 9 months or so. the problem with this is that these last 9 months haven't been that great for nintendo published games. those classic gba games aren't worth $20 each, crystal chronicles and four swords don't appeal to most people because of the connectivity requirements, mario party games aren't worth $50, those cartoon things for gba are a terrible idea, and the remaining games have mixed reviews. custom robo and pokemon aren't worth $50 in most peoples' eyes, wario ware for gamecube is too similar to the gba version to warrant an additional $30 purchase, and who the hell cares about hamtaro? and 1080 was just terrible.
my point is, there is a pretty good reason why so many people don't have 5 codes yet. mario kart is worth owning, metroid zero mission is great but short, i hear that mario and luigi is pretty cool, and mario golf and mario & dk seem like they could be good. i guess those are the only 5 that are potentially worth the price...slim pickings.

Wouldn't you be pissed if the demo only came packed with a certain issue of Nintendo Power that only subscribers got? Or if you went to a store to pick up the demo but they were selling it for $20? Or it was only a penny but some asshat grabbed every copy of the demo before anybody else could get it?
I applaud what Nintendo did with the Zelda Collector's Disk and here with the MP2 Demo. They are making it availible to anybody who wants a copy and ensuring that everybody can get one.

I had enough to get the demo. I like the overall concept also (registering games = freebees) But 5 games is high for a demo. It only took 2 to get the Zelda collection and this doesn't sound anywhere near as good.

Don't bother trying to figure out codes, I have 3 MKDD codes and they are all completely different from each other and the one Knuckles posted.
For all the people complaining about this, it is a reward for Nintendo fans. I had 11 games registered (actually only own 9) and was waiting for a promotion like this to happen. It's an awesome deal for us Nintendo fans because we don't have to reserve anything to get it, we don't have to worry about calling a bunch of stores to see who has the demo in. We don't have to pay anything for the demo and we get it shipped right to our doors just for being a Nintendo fan and buying games we would normally buy even if this promotion didn't exist. I hope they have more promotions like this that reward Nintendo fans.

Hey Togepy, I feel the same way.
I got an e-mail yesterday from Nintnendo about getting this MP2 demo disk. Since I already have more than 5 games registerd (11 I think) and my GC, GBA, and GBA SP I already automatically qualified for this promotion. All I had to do was click the link, log in, and request the demo. Simple and now I will patiently wait for the disc to arrive. Nintendo is rewarding its fans in a fair way.

You're right, Pokemon and Wario aren't worth their listed prices. I got my Pokemon for $35 (price cut) on 7/4 in a Target in Pasadena. Then I recently bought Wario Ware in the San Jose Fry's for $20. That scores me 2 more codes to add to my three. This promo sounds more likely a way for Nintendo to get rid of all those "limited edition" platinums by making the Metroid Prime bundle.

thats not really true.........im a big NIN fan........
Actions speak louder than words. Nintendo would oviously care more about the people that actually buy thier games than the ones who don't.. yet claim they do. Same with Sony, same with Capcom, same with square. The videogame industry is a business first and foremost.
but i have good taste in games
Riiight. Sure you do. I highly doubt you could even name a plausible set of metrics by which one could deem a game good. Pure opinion doesn't work for that.
....im 25 yrs old, and games like mario party and pokemon dont excite me...........
The fact that you are old enough to not only have graduated high school, but college as well deeply scares me.
plus i use Gamespot reviews to help make informed purchases...
Using one source out of the multiple hundreds that exist. Yeah, that makes you informed.
and not just buy cashcow games forced upon me.......
Yep. Apparently Nintendo is now using mafia tactics to move games.
so i dont usually buy games tha t rate less than 8.5 (at least not for full price....ill wait till the 5-15$ used...or sale goes on...if its a game that seems interesting. but if it were for nintendo fans...i would be included.......and i dont have 1 game on that list....(i own 9 GC games btw)........
I guess that works, so long as you think everyone else is smarter than you and inherently know more about videogames and your taste in videogames. Lots of good, solid sleeper hits sink under the radar.
Because lots of people act the way you do, games like Suikoden 2 will languish for years (while people who don't use reviews a bible play the heck out of it) until some guy on a website says how great this old game is.. and now its RARE!!!
...im not whining or anything...i just disagree totally w/ your interpretation! i thinks its more for the $$....not loyalty
How does one express consumer loyality? By consistantly purchasing products from a specific company. If people are buying decent number of new Nintendo games, they are obviously more loyal than the people who just buy a game every now and then, if the brain trusts that run the game magazines and websites like it.
...and MP is a game geared toward adults...
This matters why? Women are more apt to play palor or board style games, as evidenced by the user base of online games. Look at that list.
Wow, Mario Party and Warioware. Hmm.
I guess your definition of adult is lacking.
whereas that is NOT the case w/ the majority of the games on that list....and the ones that are...like 1080--a sports game which the sports genre is all ages....is the weakest game representation of snowboarding....ssx3 is available on GC and it is 10x better by MOST all review sites mages (that arent on nintendos payroll---a la nintendo power).......
You can't follow even one idea to it's conclusion, can you?
Most of your claims are specious at best, and none of them actually seem to mesh together to form even one cohesive or mildly convincing argument.

The Nintendo Classic series are often on sale at CC or Target for $16 - and they're at Best Buy this week for $17. That's probably as low as you'll get for a Definite Yes-Sir code. Personally, I don't understand paying $16 for old games that I can plunk outta my closet, so you might want to either check the boxes at Blockbuster for extra codes or drop the $3 to buy one from Strell. I have a better idea . . . do what I did!
Go to the web page with the promo, sign in . . . click a few pages and then leave . . . don't sign in again for a few months . . .
If 90% of people did this, rather than scrambling to get a completely worthless item (I've got dozens of old demos that are basically coasters. . .).
Nintendo might get the idea that this is a flat-out stupid and ineffective way to promote a great game.
Last year's Zelda disc was completely different! If this new Metroid disc contained the SNES Super Metroid title and they gave it away as a subscription or preorder bonus . . . THEN IT WOULD BE WORTH SOMETHING (sorry for the shouting :-)

Ditto.
How hard would it be to throw a couple of classic Metroid games on there? The cost would be negligible, and the thing would actually have some value.

Everyone just needs to quit bitching, I don't see anyone else giving out free demos on a mass scale before a game is released, registering the games is a bonus for Nitendo fans, if you don't like it then don't get it, it's America.

Has any source said exactly what the "Metroid Chronicle" is?
It's probably just a stupid little story thus far with artwork and such, but you could bet that a great number of people's minds would change if they slapped Metroid and Super Metroid onto this disk.
I really would like to know the "Metroid Chronicle is, yet any websearches thus far are fruitless.

It's probably gonna be the same thing that they had on the Nintendo Fall 2002 DVD thing they had a couple years ago. A synopsis of each Metroid game, along with game footage to hightlight the game

Ugh, that would be upsetting.
I would even be fine with it if it was just a documentary about the progression of the Metroid games. But to repackage old material... That would be booty.

I think if anyone can not obtain the disc, Nintendo might send some to retailers to throw in with Gamecubes. Just like they did with the zelda discs. I could be wrong though.

Dammit. Does everyone not understand that you have to PAY (at least when I was in it) to be part of the "Playstation Underground"? So those "free" demo discs sony sent out weren't so free after all, eh?
This Metroid PROMOTION is a REWARD! I mean Nintendo DIDN'T HAVE TO release a demo at all and Metroid Prime 2 would still sell like crazy. They're doing this as an incentive for the people who actively support them. If you need a code, go buy a fucking game. Its that simple. Some of you can't seem to comprehend that, yes, it DOES cost money to get the codes, but you get a VIDEO GAME with each one. Most of which are damn good IMO.

Wrong, Playstation Underground is free. Not only does Sony give out free demos, they also give out $5 off coupons for certain titles, and even allow members to partcipate in beta testing.
And the point of a demo disc is to get people who are on the fence to get them to buy the game when it comes out in November. Rewarding loyal Nintendo fans the demo disc does not accomplish this objective...demo discs should be targeted to people who haven't played Metroid Prime before, or for people who do not have interest in the game. I'm pretty sure a good number of people who have bought Metroid Prime will buy the sequel, demo or not. The demo should be sold in stores for a cheap price (or given free for pre-ordering) to reach a larger target, rather than limiting the discs to loyal Nintendo fans and new Gamecube owners. Poor execution on NoA's part. And they need to use My Nintendo for REAL rewards, like the stuff they're giving out to customers in Japan. Not demo discs.

Ok, well that's news to me.
Back when it first started up it was around $25 for a year's membership and 4 quarterly "demos", which were mostly just videos of upcoming games.

None of the games they have offered really spark my interest. IMO, TOS and other games should have come with codes, not some of the games they have listed there. But my opinion doesn't count, so.

damn wario64 beat me to it. If it was an artbook for MP2 or soundtrack or even a cool poster, then that would make more sense. They have a deal for the first 800 canadians who register custom robo will get some nice free artwork. that should get some people who are on the fence for getting custom robo to go out and get the game. but this promo is weak sauce, liks someone else said, maybe if it had an old metroid game, then that would be pretty cool. But then again, i havent even tried the metroid prime promo yet, so maybe it will actually be a good promo.

Thanks Togepy. Try as I might, no websearches would turn up that information.
That's just about what I expected. Oh well.
You know, I had already bought the games and had them registered, so the entire thing is a non-issue to me.

Gamespot has impressions on the bonus disc. Unfortuantely there's no multiplayer in the demo

That Metroid Chronicle thing looks to be an updated version of the feature on that Gamecube preview DVD (like Wario64 said) they were giving out if you preordered Metroid Prime at Best Buy (you also got a Metroid Prime 12-game holder), and you could keep the oversized Metroid box you had to bring to the counter, neat.
I can't wait for this demo disc, as I got 5 codes.

I really don't understand what the big deal is? Either you have 5 codes and and get a free demo or you don't have the codes and get nothing. It's just a nice way for Nintendo to give something away to it's fans. I guess I'm in the minority that actually likes getting rewarded for supporting a company with free stuff...

Ya who doesn't wish that. That sorta reminds me when nintendo gave away dragon warrior by subcribing to nintendo power back in the NES days.
Anyways, I got my 5th pin number yesterday with the purchase of Wario Ware for the 'cube. :D

Does anybody know if this game will come in a box or not? Or will it be in a little slipcase or something, or like the Pac Man Vs. bonus disc? I'm hoping it'll come with a regular, GCN style box (much like the Rebel Strike bonus disc).

Does anyone have 2 codes that they don't need that are not:
"1. Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
2. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
3. Metroid: Zero Mission"
If you pm me with a single (or 2 :D) code(s) I'd greatly appreciate it and I'll give you a gmail invite for your kindness.
