LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A British man was being treated for shock on Wednesday after he fell from a ladder while pruning trees, accidentally killing his wife with his chainsaw, police said.
The 56-year-old man, who has not been named, was cutting back tree branches at his home in southeast London on Monday when he tumbled backwards from the ladder.
The running chainsaw crashed down onto the neck of his wife, who was working in the garden below him.
"The woman was killed instantly, although she was not decapitated," police said in a statement. "Her husband was taken to hospital. He is still being treated for shock."
A police spokesman said the incident was being treated as a "tragic accident."

The headline is kinda funny at first, though. It makes it seem like there's a man-trimming tree that falls on a woman with a chainsaw and killing her.

I don't think I could live with myself if I did something like that. Feel bad for him..... and her.

Wow, that is pretty messed up. My dad fell off a ladder with a running chainsaw once.. but luckily he was smart enough to toss the chainsaw into the middle of the yard as he fell.

Honestly, I don't know why the guy would let his wife be anywhere near him while he was operating a chainsaw.
I know sometimes people do things without thinking about them, but this is common sense and could have very easily been avoided. I'm afraid that very reason is why this guy is going to have major problems for the rest of his life.

^^^True.... it's not such a good idea to be under the tree while someone is trimming it.
*EDIT* This was supposed to be for Graves last post.

Notice the difference in the British media compared to our media.
They are reporting it as an accident, but if this happened here, the media would be digging through his background to find any evidence of spousal abuse and would be questioning if it was intentional.
Our media basically convicts everyone before they are proven innocent or guilty.

Messed up.
Lesson kids: don't stand under someone using a chainsaw on a ladder.
I guess common sense isn't always that common.

Now I understand what my wife meant when she says "keep playing around, and I might have to accidentally kill you"
