Nice deal. I picked this up at Amazon when it was $59.99. They also have Collectors Edition for $47.82 (link (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5515988)). Oddly enough they're still selling the basic bare bones edition of game for $59.92.

Can I PM to BB! Pay $51.80 after 110% off difference! So how much was Amazon price during Gold Box deal? I can request local pickup and I'll let anyone to PM with the proof of purchase!

site to store shipping makes it better. I got it. I do feel bad for anyone who paid full price...I guess MS must have overestimated demand for this package if all these crazy deals are going on for this "Limited edition" package.

I used site to store, this is a great deal. Thanks OP and thanks Walmart for your globalization tactics and mistreatment of slave labor in China so I can save 50% on a game I already own but want a stupid helmet of!

It is pretty crappy how the people got sucked into this edition of the game by all the press stating it would be limited edition and "limited quantity".. I think that was all a way to get people to run out and buy the more expensive versions to make it the one day best $$$ making game...

Now it has been found since then and has dropped in price randomly since release...

Good job Micro$oft

You people fell for it though...

This just means that i will never ever pre-order or pay full price for that halo garbage again. After playing the games its not even that great. Limited Edition my ass, They pulled the same stunt they did with Halo 2 CE. Limited does not mean endless supply.

Logical Dolphin
12-13-2007, 12:23 PM
This has got to be one of the worst selling "Collector's" edition ever sold. Definately not worth double the price of the standard edition, and shoudn't have sold for more than $89.99 in the first place.

At the very least, Microsoft should have included the Limited (Tin box) editon as part of this package. Curiously, Microsoft did include it with the versions sent out to the press.

I don't. It's call risk and it's part of capitalism. If people can say tough shit about all the folks flipping Wii's, I can say tough shit about the would be "flippers" who get to take a loss this time around.

BTW, thanks OP. Picked one up...

If you don't care about the Legendary Edition, the best Halo 3 deal is the Limited Edition from Amazon. They sell it for $49.99 with free shipping and no tax (for most areas).

phear3d
12-13-2007, 12:44 PM
I don't. It's call risk and it's part of capitalism. thats true. its just too bad that the company would flat out lie and tell everyone that this is a limited item (like gamestop with FFXII). im sure they are still making these to this day. the thing probably cost them $30 to make if amazon could sell these at $50..

Up for one. Missed out on the Amazon deal. Got shipped to store, shows as available after Jan.1. I don't mind waiting, as I have a long list of unplayed games still waiting (Bioshock, AC, ME).

Thanks, OP! :)

Normally, i have no problems with the "risk" part of capitalism... However, returning stuffs back to the stores when they are not so hot, it's sneaky and i hate those people doing that. There's no risk at all for those people! I definitely don't call that capitalism...

Sorry for the OT, but $60 is nice for the LE, get one if you missed out the Amazon deal. The helmet can be modfied to fit on a small head...

the one I have sitting here on my desk at work is numbered 116732, so assuming they started at 000001 (which its VERY possible they didn't). thats a ton of these. Halo 3 sold over 5 million copies to date. if they made 5% of the copies as legendary edition's, thats still 250,000 copies... and technically still "limited"

Needless to say I think M$ made too many of these and a lot of stores are stuck with them sitting on the shelves at the 140 dollar price tag. which is GREAT for us cheap asses who waited to get theirs

You can tell all the suckers in the topic who paid full price for the Legendary Edition because they're bitching so hard..."SHAQ-FU Microsoft this" and "wah wah wah that"...HAHAHAHA!!!

So you got ripped off by $80-100...live and learn. Don't fall so hard for the hype.

It could be worse, there could possibly be some uber idiot out there that bought one off of ebay or craigslist for $175-350, which was what the also moronic scalpers were asking.

Diclaimer: I ordered one through amazon when it was the daily special of $59.99, no tax no shipping, about a week or so after Black Friday.

Jesus, another wannabe video game Donald Trump. What a moron. that's the funny thing about the vast, VAST majority of these hoarder/reseller "day trader" types. They think they're living large and will corner the market because they make, at best $1-5 average per item when they get it at a "cheap" price for resale.

According to this article (http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/estimate-halo-3-sells-234-million-units-on-day-one/70978/?biz=1), they sold around 327,000 Legendary editions on launch day, so they must have made at least 400,000 if they're still on shelves. They did limit the number in that they can't make any more helmets. According to what Frankie said on Major Nelson's podcast, they tore down the factory after they were done making them. Still it was way too many for it to retain any value near the MSRP.

Picked up the Amazond deal and it was well worth it. This really is the price it should have been the whole time from the start. Glad I took a stand at launch and said $120 was way too much.

Oh well, good deal for those who waited.

I don't think Microsoft officially announced $99 for the Legendary Edition, it was just that several retailers estimated that was a likely price for preorder purposes.

But I agree with you, it shouldn't have sold for more than $99. For $129, I expect the helmet to be made of alloy.

I'm glad I got one when Amazon had it for $59.99 shipped. I think it was an excellent deal, especially if you're a fan of Halo. I really like the helmet and the compilation dvd of all the Halo 1 & 2 cutscenes is nice to watch too. (easier than playing both games again if you have friends who don't know the backstory)

I'm such a tool.....I caved in and bought one. I already have the regular copy at home too, gonna have to trade it in today at GS and use that extra 30% coupon that expires today. At least 45 bucks in credit. Good thing is my gf is getting this for me for Xmas!!!! Cost $71.xx after shipping & tax. Bad thing is I just bought a Nintendo DS Lite Nintendogs bundle off e-scalp for 200 bucks (ugh). Why couldn't the gf tell me she wanted it BEFORE Black Friday? Happy...sad....but happy again after I trade in Halo 3 craptacular edition....:applause:

I think this is a good investment. As of right now, the average selling price on eBay is around $85 + shipping. Thereofre, if you paid $120, it would be a bad investment. With Walmart's free ship to store, you only pay $65 after taxes and if you decide you do not want this item you can sell it on eBay for a profit. In a few years, these may actually fetch some money on eBay.

In for 1 (also picked up LoZ:PH w/bonus that I was eyeing for some time). I pre-ordered, and paid full price for CE, but with all the free swag I got at the BB event, that kinda' made it worth it.

But I digress...

So I suppose that CAG who bought 25 of these might have an alright profit after flipping these on ebay. Eh, I'm just glad I got myself one during the Amazon deal. It was totally worth it at $59.99 shipped.

It depends how long it takes for him to sell all of them (and receive payment), whether people flood the market a second time from the Walmart deal, how much it actually costs him to ship the product (gas, time, packing material -- needed because he's splitting up the helmets and games for people), how much his fees cost him (whether people use PayPal or not or if he takes credit cards -- other fees may apply), customer service (on his end in case something happens -- not counting the PMs etc. he has to answer), whether he will have to pay interest because he took out a loan to purchase the items (he used a credit card -- can he pay it back in time to not incur interest charges?) and various other factors. Also, not all of them are going for $85 plus shipping. Some of them are $60 plus shipping, or even less. It's really 'hit or miss' or luck. We also can't see how many non-paying bidders there are in the mix.

For the miniscule profit an individual can make on selling 25 of these, it's pretty much not worth it. He and "his friend" are also students. It is highly likely, he would make better use of his time studying or pursuing a REAL job than to flip a few of these. Being early Dec., many schools have their finals around this time. He may be blowing off exams (we can't know for sure) to sell these.

The whole scenario is a recipe for disaster.

calling it limited isn't a lie. There are a finite number of quantity be it 50,000 or 2 million as long as they don't produce more the 'limited' label is technically right.

of course people's perception of the use of limited was exploited by MS, which was pretty much a dick move.

If you have the helmet and just a standard edition of the game, then no, there is no real point in buying this unless you plan on looking at the "behind-the-scenes" footage/art. Some people like it (I do, but then again, I'm a game/art designer) while others don't.

In for a Legendary!

The unofficial promise by Microsoft to sell out by launch date: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=28725

What made it seem real was Best Buy and a lot of other big retailers selling out the Fri/Sat before launch. Best Buy was touted at the time as the store with the biggest Halo hook-up. I showed up that Monday night at 10pm, no one else was in line for midnight release, and they had about 200 Legendaries ready go to people without a pre-order.

How many is "Limited?" The best number I saw from a Microsoft/Bungie site was an estimated 450,000.

I agree that "flipping games carries risk so don't bitch," but I'm not going to pick on anyone for trying.

EDIT: And here's the sell out prediction right off Microsoft.com: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/aug07/08-09Halo3PreordersPR.mspx

I don't think selling out will be an issue. It's been up all day, and honestly I don't think the demand is that high. I'd imagine that most people that want Halo 3 already have it, and the majority of purchases Wal-mart will see from this sale will be gamers upgrading to Legendary while selling their older Collector's or Regular Editions.

LOL no it hasn't been that bad. I'm a third year pharmacy student so I DO spend most of my time studying. Just gotta learn how to budget your time wisely.

And to the person who made the comment earlier in this thread about being a "Donald Trump" wannabe or whatever, if you can make $6-8k/month from working just 2hrs a day (which is what I've been doing the last year and a half), wouldn't you?

Walmart has a weird pricing policy. I cannot recall if they do price match their own website. I'd just use the site to store just to get around it.

Or, the person could not suck at ebay and easily make about 40 bucks per unit after fees.

Or, the person could not suck at ebay and easily make about 40 bucks per unit after fees.

I guess he could wait out the market, overcharge hard on shipping and pray.

If he wants to sell now, then his best option is to split it up, overcharge hard on shipping for both and pray a little less.

I'm guessing he wants to sell now because he put 25 of these on his credit card(s), which he is having trouble paying back. Although the guy who bought 25 of these claims he makes or profits six to eight thousand $$$ a month selling on eBay. If that is the case, then why is it so important to pay his credit card back? Shouldn't he be able to handle a little financial leverage? If you read the entire thread about his purchase, then you would notice all the incongruencies in his story. Nothing adds up, except, the fact he paid for 25 of these Halo 3 Legendary additions at $59.99 each and is desperate to get rid of them.

Either way, he's not coming away with an average of $40 of profit on each one of these. I would even say such expectations are ignorant. Especially, if someone is looking at only the RAW value of eBay fees without looking at all the other factors involved in actually selling an item.

The following may not have convinced you but think about this:

If the guy could make a $40 profit on each one, then don't you think he would do that, instead of, peddling these off at cost or a loss (actually, the raw numbers might say at cost, but we didn't take into consideration opportunity cost, time, packing material, etc. etc.)? It doesn't make any sense.

Go to the link in the first post. It should still show in stock. Print out that page in color if you can. Take it to Best Buy. When you get to checkout, tell them you are wanting to pricematch Wal-Mart's website. They will see it's Wal-Mart's website and after a manager/asst. manager whatever's approval (since it's going to be a $70 price adjustment) you should be able to get your game for $60 plus tax.

It's in Best Buy's policy (listed in the X-Fiddle's post above) that they price match the website's of their brick and mortar competitors.

man I got fucked on this deal. Well i guess i am fucked with the delivery. I wanted it delivered to my work because im at work between the hours of 10 and 7 every day and usually whoever delivers packages to my home leaves it on the front door and Im scared it will get stolen. So, I see the fed ex tracking and I notice it has home delivery listed. I remember having a problem with fed ex inthe past with it being listed as home delivery and its actually coming to my work which is a business. So I call them and try to give them a heads up its a business and such.... Its as if they do not care. Monday was the day it was on a truck for delivery. I get an exception at 10:29pm saying customer was unavailable. I'm like no shit its 1030 at night. I call fed ex and say hey, its a business im there between 10 and 7 can yall get it to me then? They are all like sure we'll put this in the notes. Tuesday.. pretty much same thing...they say they attempted delivery at like 10:39 pm. So im like wtf at the moment. I call again and say hey wtf I told yall to come before 7. The thing is i think the delivery man is lying about the delivery. I dont think he even passed by my work at all. There was never a notice left or anything. TOday, attempt 3 I get an exception at 830 pm. I call fedex again and they say after the 3rd attempt it will be at the fed ex office. The problem for me is the fed ex office is 42 miles from my house. And they are only open until 5pm so I guess im scrwed from going there tomorrow as I have to work til 7. I'm off friday so I will make the trip then. 84 miles round trip....and a little bit of the trip on toll roads because fex ex is right off the toll road.. this is gonna cost me a lot more than 6 dollars and change wal mart charged me....and I still have to deal with the aggrivation of driving insane across town....well here is the end of my rant...did anyone have an experience similar? OWNED TO ME....
