Following the E3 Media and Business Summit in Santa Monica this past July, much of the industry had a mixed reaction to the new format for what used to be gaming's biggest annual show. One of the common complaints, however, was that not having a central location was a major hassle when trying to get from meeting to meeting.

Today the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has made it clear that that won't be a problem again, as E3 will be headed back to its old venue: the Los Angeles Convention Center. Don't expect huge crowds, booth babes and game demos, however. "While there will be opportunities for game demonstrations, the 2008 E3 Media & Business Summit will not feature the large trade show environment of previous years," ESA stated.

E3 will once again focus "on the business of the computer and video game industry, with an emphasis on press events and small meetings with media, development, and other key sectors."

No E3 is back, but invite only. Last year's Santa Monica 'experiment' didn't go over too well with many.

E for All will continue on in October.

The longer this goes, I really begin to wonder why E3 was closed. It seemed to be one big party that everyone loved before. Ok, booth babes might not be "classy", but they use sexy women at car shows too, so it isn't that out of place.

I really wonder if this is part of controlling opinions through the media. If it's invite only, they are only showing clips to people who have a vested interest in hyping it. IT doesn't really have to be good, who is going to rag on it, if it costs your magazine/site advertising bucks?

Just open up the show. The show gave the industry the exposure that it needs, and would have been the perfect forum to push ideas like "video games don't kill kids, bad parents do", or ideas like that, since politicians have no issue blaming video games.
