Interesting development for the season if it turns out to be worth mentioning. So what will fill these spaces in the future?

Saturn would rock, but my guess is probably Game Boy.

Then again, knowing Nintendo and their pricing, it will probably be Atari 2600 games at the low price of 400 points per game.

I don't know why they'd bother with the Master System. There's maybe six games on that entire system worth trying. So that's out.

Dreamcast, I imagine, could not be done due purely to power concerns, since I don't think the Wii has the raw power to emulate those. Plus, unless Nintendo were to finally wise up and give us a hard drive option, there's no way space allocations would work. So that's out.

I don't think any portable systems will appear on the Wii, since I could see Nintendo trying to mimic the VC for the DS2, and offer GB/GBC downloads. So those two are out.

I think anything distinctly non-Japanese is out, so the 3DO, Atari, Commodore 64, Colecovision/Intellivision/etc are all out.

Can't seem them wanting to revisit the Virtua Boy. Out.

Add-ons? Debateable. Depends on various factors such as space issues and whether or not Nintendo can still negotiate those kinds of deals. Aren't some of the companies completly dead?

Saturn is a good candidate, except that size restrictions really would keep it from happening.

Wasn't the...I think it's the MSX....it has Rondo of Blood on it? Wasn't that system confirmed a while ago? I think it might also have Snatcher on it? I could be way off. MSX would also be the home to Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, which is essentially MGS in 2D form, at least from what I played of it.

Anyway, interesting. I think the last two spaces will go to the MSX and - I hope - the Saturn. And then we hear about a USB compatible hard drive being released, or the ability to run games off the SD slot, since both of those ports are being horribly underutilized at the moment.

Edit: Editted above after doing a little research.

I honestly believe they will add Sega CD and Sega 32x to the VC. But what blows my mind away is that they already charge the TGCD games at a set price of 800 points, and they store them as TG16 games. So based off of that, I'd see it hard for them making a different slot for Sega CD or 32x when they are just glorified genesis games.

Hopefully, the Saturn...but we will definitely need some kind space resolution.

I'd guess Master System (I disagree with Strell on number of games), which would probably include Game Gear games (the two systems were pretty much the same), and 32x (even though that definitely had fewer games). This prediction is based completely on what Gametap offers. Yes, they've got some Saturn and Dreamcast games now too, but I think space is too much of an issue right now, which is why I'm also ruling out Sega CD games, although I wouldn't be upset to see them pop up.

I have no idea why I'm only considering Sega systems.

I have no idea why I'm only considering Sega systems.

Because there really aren't that many options, seriously.
I could see the Atari 2600 coming on board...but those games...seriously....300 points. There were some fun games, but let's be serious here. Some games just don't hold up regardless of how classic they are. Personally, I wouldn't care to see the Atari 2600. I did love that system, but it's really not a priority.

That leaves us with systems like the Master System, Sega 32x, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast which all have some games that would be worth being on the VC. Then you have systems like..the Philips CDi, Jaguary, 3DO...uhhh..what else am I forgetting?

Point is there's not a whole lot of options, so all of our guesses aren't too far off.

EDIT: I just realized a few months ago (Sept? Oct?) we were told that we were getting TurbografxCD and Turbografx Duo games. I know they put the TGCD games in with the TG16..but with the TGD, well..maybe..just MAYBE it can be it's own system?

Wasn't C64 already announced some time ago?

Wasn't C64 already announced some time ago?

No.

What happened is Epyx was going remake Impossible Mission for the Wii, and someone at Nintendo Power extrapolated this to C64 games going to the VC.

It was a miscommunication/misunderstanding/rumor.

Eh, I'm not holding my breath for anything. 4CR actually said that it is "obvious" that Nintendo are adding new things... I don't see it. New icons look fly, but extra spaces = new systems?

What about that DS Demo Download service they've been talking about - I can see that being added.

I wish they'd find a way to emulate Amiga games.. That probably wouldn't be possible though.

Channels != Systems on the VC, is the point that is being made.

I don't care what the second one could be so long as we get some Saturn Virtual Console going.

i'm gonna guess atari, based on a comment my father made the other day...

my parents got a wii last year as something to do when the entire family gets together for holidays. these are people that haven't played a system since the original nes and atari days... when my brothers and sisters were younger. i'm the youngest of the bunch and continued playing into today... but i'm the only one. of course, we all pretty much have a wii now... wii sports hooked them all in.

anyway, he always knew that it was possible to download older games to his system, but never really looked into it. he was asking me questions about the entire process... how do you pay? how much are they? and he says...

"i could see myself getting some of those older games i used to play, like pitfall or tanks."

nintendo, i would think, has to know that some of the crowd they're marketing towards, and successfully grabbing, remember games back before the days of nes. when characters were blockier than smb mario and scores were written in a font that took up half the screen. if they charged a couple bucks for the older crowd to remember why they ever started enjoying games back 30-some-odd years ago... i think they'd make a killing on a whole new audience, that doesn't care about pokemon snap or sin and punishment.

If they get dc running, it'll be around 1200 pts a game

and I'd gladly pay it

I'm thinking DC and Saturn too, if it turns out to be a "new system/format".

one of them is going to be MSX, which Nintendo has already confirmed before. As for Saturn and Dreamcast, it is very unlikely. While the compression technology has gotten a lot better, it would mean a very limited number of games unless nintendo find some way to add more space. Also Sega been porting Saturn games to PS2 in Japan, and charge it more than any VC games. The master system is likely the other console

maybe we'll get lucky and get instant classics such as E.T and strawberry shortcake

I have no idea, it's not the Dreamcast though... the Wii can't handle emulating it.

MSX and something else. I'll go with Master System since it also means Game Gear games. (the Game Gear was a portable Master System)
