The black 605 is $27 more than the silver one. I'd usually get the black one, but I kinda like the silver one, plus it's cheaper. Won't be able to order until Friday at the earliest, so I hope they stay the same price and don't go out of stock. I think my ghetto KLH speakers still sound fine,so they'll tide me over for a while.
I'd probably get this 5.0 package from SVS, plus one of their subs.
http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-scs01.cfm
Should tide me over for a while. Now I just need some money. ;) And a new TV.
Getting the SCS set rather than the SBS one seems kinda like overkill unless you've got a big frickin' room. Hmm... honestly, I'd take the extra money you'd spend on that and invest it in the sub. I didn't realize how important it was to have a good sub until I got mine and now, I laugh at BB employees who try to sell me on their high end subs that sound like shit by comparison. No, I literally laugh.

If I wasn't living in a condo, I'd be all over some of these awesome sound setups.. I'm thinking of just getting a couple of bookshelf speakers for the living room, no surround.

Get 2 floorstanding speakers. They won't make enough bass to piss off your neighbors, but you'll still get really good sound.

You tell good stories.
Not nearly as bloody as my gamestop experience looking for a new copy of the first phoenix wright as a christmas present my sister. I simply asked kindly, to which the manager replied in the manner one might punch a child for listening to modern pop music, "We turned all of the new copies into used ones about 6 months ago". At first I was taken aback at his seeming pride in this fact, when a shameful fact floated to the surface of my mind. I replied, "Funny thing about that is the used price is about twice what the new price used to be, wow!". The lout promptly tucked his tail between his legs and walked to the back room through the packed store of customers.
But I still bought it.
I got Rock Band, VF5 and 3200 MS Points for XMAS
If anyone wants to play VF5 today let me know, I suck but I would be down for a game.
Also I love Rock band.

True, I should probably go that route. Either way, I was planning on getting the 12" sub. I want a sound setup that will last me for a while, or at least until I'm rich, which will never happen.

Current thinkings:
1) Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is hella disappointing. I'm at the boss in the third dungeon and it's just boring beyond belief. It feels more like a puzzle game than a real adventure. I think I'm quitting this one.
2) Got Mega Man ZX Advent for Christmas and this shit is fucking good. Like, this is the best Mega Man game I've played in a long time... absolutely love it so far.

Depends on the size of your room... and you gotta keep in mind that these sons of bitches are big as hell. My 12" sub is two feet tall, two feet deep, and 18" wide. If you have a small room though, the 10" should work fine.

Is the sub you're referring to the huge one under your desk? Right now I'm rocking a 10" Jensen sub, that I got on clearance. It came with a 5 speaker set, but they weren't as good as my current speakers. The sub sounded good in store, and it's served me well so far.

Has anybody played that bleach fighting game on DS? I hear good things. I couldn't care less about the anime crap, but it is a treasure game and looks like a fun fighting game. Does it have some kind of adventure or whatever mode to last a bit longer than just a story mode?

Nice receiver Chac. My friend has a Pioneer receiver, and I've always liked it. I'll probably order that Onkyo 605 Friday. I used my Sony POS today and only the front left and center channels work now. What garbage. And it's not even 3 years old. Done with Sony receivers. I still like my Sony TV.

I bought it because my friend had a bunch of Sony points on his Sony card. I got it for 25% off. It was OK, but I've always wanted to step up. Having it die just accelerated that plan. Whats your new PC's specs man? Also you didn't enjoy AC, or was it just the ending that pissed you off?
It was just the ending that annoyed me. I liked the rest of the game, even if it did get repetative at times. It's just the last section really showed how flawed the combat is in that game.
I'm not a big computer person. I only got this because my old one was dying. This one has 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. Those the specs you're looking for?
$60 was unreasonable for it, having a gift card and hopefully price matching gamestop's $50 price, plus reward zones is more reasonable..
I look at game prices differently. If I want it, and I have the money, then it's reasonable.
Though I have to admit it's not as good as the previous games in the series. Even though it's possibly the best looking 360 game. The attention to detail in that game is sick. Like if you blow up a plane and fly through the explosion, you can hear the debris hitting the cockpit.

I agree totally the game did get very repetitive and if it was any longer then it was I probably wouldn't of finished it. I did really enjoy the story though, and that was what kept me playing it. Yeah those were the basic specs I was looking for, I got to upgrade my ram to two gigs here soon. Really nice man, and congrats. :)

Honestly, I wouldn't bother. I mean, lossless is nice, but first, you gotta get speakers that'll make it worth that kind of monetary investment and second, you've gotta keep in mind that apart from lossless, that's barely a jump in quality (unless I'm forgetting something.) I can't justify spending that kind of money for a marginally better receiver... I'd rather be without lossless now and wait till there's a reasonably beneficial upgrade before plunking down cash.
Seriously, if you only buy what you need to get, all your purchase decisions in the future become easier.

The Witcher just crashed on me. It was pretty fun while it lasted. I'm going to give it another go in a second. That game is pretty hard on my system. After Crysis, that's the most demanding game I own. Lost Planet, UT3, and Gears of War run like champs compared to it.

The Witcher jumps all over the place. At 1680x1050 on my 8800GT, I get anywhere from 20 - 60 FPS. It's usually somewhat smooth. That's on high everything though, so I could just turn some settings down.

My first 360 got the RROD. The second one refused to read discs after a while. So I've had both problems. 3rd one is running strong so far. Do they use the cheapest parts on purpose or something? Finally. 5-Stared. Every. Song. In. GHII. On. Medium. GAH~! >_<;
GHII is easily my personal game of the year, followed closely by Rock Band. Only reason RB isn't my GOTY, is because I've literally sunk HUNDREDS of hours into GHII since getting it from a fellow CAG in April. I went from shitty as hell on easy, to mastering both easy & medium. I played Heart Shaped Box for five hours straight. FIVE FREAKING HOURS!
I love you GHII and Rock Band (the real GHIII, lets just forget that cheap knockoff Neversoft made).
Dunno what I was worried about: BB had a fuck ton of AC PS3.
What was weird was that the parking lot was jammed packed (as to be expeected the day after xmas), but the store itself wasn't very crowded. I just grabbed a copy of AC, went into the almost non-existent exchange/return line, waited about 10 minutes for the very slow family in front of me to return their 360 arcade for a 360 Halo edition, and then was out of there a minute later.

Yeah that is pretty sweet there man. Let me know if there is any frame rate issues/ freezing with AC. I've heard a few people have had both happen on the PS3 version. After playing the demo, I have to say that it sucked. Both the 360 and PS3 versions. Basically, the game's functional and it runs smooth, but shooting things isn't fun. There's no impact, the enemies are stupid, and the missions are boring as are the locales.

Better than the others IMO. The AC's are easier to control...well I guess that depends on the AC you build, but in general they control better. It's also faster paced than the others which I liked. I got frustrated on one of the missions and sold it though :-P It's not one of the best games out there by far, but if you like AC in general you'll probably enjoy it.

as huge of a fan I am of Killer 7, I do agree that it had such a good combination of everything but mainly lacked solid gameplay. I think Suda realized this and is making NMH jammed with gameplay to remedy this. I expect, if NMH isn't a hit, Suda's next game will be amazing.

Well, it certainly looks to be more gameplay focused, so I have some interest attached to it. Shame Brawl is dropping around the same time, otherwise I might have actually given the game a shot.

That's what pisses me about ubisofts release. I really think it's going to die immediately on the market due to brawl. It's a legitamitly good game that most people won't notice due to what many consider "The Megaton!".
I personally will be playing alot more NMH than Smash Brothers due to my interest and love being polar opposite when comparing both games. I will play SB, mainly because of King DeDe and Wario, but that's really it. It's going to be a very good game, but fuck you ubisoft! do it a month later! I can wait!

I recieved Nights in the mail from gamefly. I'll do a writeup once I spend more time with it, but these are brief impressions for anyone who might be interested.
Before I mention anything about the game, I must make myself clear. Although it's been said over and over again, Japanese developers clearly haven't heard. NEVER MAKE ME WATCH YOUR GODDAMNED AWFUL CUTSCENES. EVER. Especially when it involves a creepy cartoon owl telling a 10 year old to go touch Nights, or when you give Nights a gender/accent ambiguous voice.
Everything outside of the game is nothing more than pure ass and completely awful. Actually playing the game is quite fun, when nights isn't turned into a boat. Then it has all the quality you'd expect from a tiger electronics style handheld your child received in his happy meal. Flying is fluid and fun, levels are pretty in a color way, not a detail way, and the music is surprisingly good. Sega's best Wii title so far, but should have been $30.

I can wait!
With any luck, it does get pushed back a month or two to better fit the dry spell.

I spent way too much time today trying to finish the nurumburg (I'm not attempting to spell that) ring track in Forza 2 which is a total bitch.
It seems every time I even get within sniffing distance of the finish line a CPU racer decides to give me the PIT and my ass is 12 seconds behind. Double the frustration since the race takes about 15 min to complete. It's the last one on exhibition left, so I'm determined to get it tomorrow, though.

Sounds like the original game. I know I risk getting flamed, but I never saw what the big deal was with that game. I remember buying it when it first came out, and being sorely disappointed. The only good thing was getting that controller with it.

Finally. 5-Stared. Every. Song. In. GHII. On. Medium. GAH~! >_<;
I love you GHII and Rock Band (the real GHIII, lets just forget that cheap knockoff Neversoft made).Congrats for that. I remember working my way through GH and again in GHII. It was just such an addicting game, I played it every single day, usually for hours, like you. It was just compelling, keep playing to get that 5th star, keep playing, climbing the leaderboard, just getting better. I don't know what it is, but I just don't feel that with GHIII. Definitely feeling it with Rock Band though, especially on the drums, but even on the guitar.

Playing Hard on both GHII & RB and gotta say, hard on RB is WAAAAAAAAY easier than in GHII.

So I'll just splain: Yes, it's different. The map makes sense this time, you have a lot more abilities and they're more interesting, and those abilities play a much larger role in exploring the levels. And the level design seems much better.

Just pulled the trigger on the Onkyo 605. Can't wait to be rid of this Sony travesty. Only one channel works now, and it's not even 3 years old.

I got an Onkyo 605 today... I'm at my parent's house in Florida and my dad wanted to replace the sound stuff because it was shit (it was a Sony receiver, so yeah... even worse, it was the low end Sony receiver.) Uhm... so we got that. It makes sounds.

How is the 605? I've heard good things. The Sony receiver I replaced is the STRDE-597 low end POS.
When the 605 gets here, I'm throwing on 300 Blu-ray and blasting some PCM 5.1, though my speakers aren't that good. That will change soon. . .
I bought the silver 605. I'm not paying $50 more for a black one.

Well the Sony receiver I just replaced is a STR-197... so it's like, the lowest of the low end. It sounds like an abortion probably feels.
The 605 is something I approve of. As I said, it's a step below the 705 which I've got in my parents' basement and it does good things. Believe me, it's gonna be a hell of a step up from any Sony receiver.

Haven't played: Drill Dozer, Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, Ninja Five-0, Tales of the Abyss
Now, can any of ya'll convince me to keep or pawn off any of these? So I really wanted to review Nights: Journey of Dreams on Wii. Unfortunately I have about as much enthusiasm to continue playing it as I do having to eat my way through a shoe filled with dog shit in order to find the M&M buried inside. So you'll have to settle for this, as I'm finished with this rubbish.
I like this game.
When it's being a game.
You see, it's got this problem where the game doesn't let me play the game. In order to play the game, I have to watch terrible 10 min cut scenes that either make me get up and do something else until they're over, or stop playing.
I really want to play it, but I just groan thinking about having to watch as much crap as I play, because these fucking things don't let up and happen at the beginning of every new mission AND can't be skipped. Why, Sega? You have basically turned this game into a fucking children's program that lets you play nights after I watch videos with all the intellectual stimulation of Dora the Fucking Explorer. At least then I might learn some Spanish. It does seem that the characters stare at the screen just as often.
Unforgivable. This game fails. Pretty music, though.
Edit: On second thought, maybe (if this is doable) finding a completed gamesave and then playing it is the way to go, as I'm sure you could be without the cutscenes then. That fucking owl probably still fills the screen with text every few moments when playing the game though.. damn.

So Chac, which SVS sub do you have? One of the 12 inchers I would guess, but which one? I'm thinking of making my next purchase a pair or 2 of SBS-01 speakers, the white ones for $150 a pair, if they're still in stock in a few weeks (unlikely). If not, I'll just get one pair at a time, then the sub last, because it's so friggin' expensive. I'm tired of ghetto sound.

I have this one in my room: http://svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb12nsd.cfm
And I got my parents the PB12 Plus in the basement. The only reason I went with the plus in the basement is because that's a really big, open room, so you need dat extra powers! Anyway, getting a pair of those speakers is a good start. It'll shame whatever you have now. I literally don't need to ask what you have now, because it will be shamed regardless of your answer. Be sure not to wait too long on the sub though simply because it really is a damn important part of the setup. The most important, IMO. I'd probably rather get a sub now and pair it with shitty speakers than the other way around.
Or maybe not. I dunno. Actually, get the speakers since they're on sale.
For those wondering, the current set of speakers I'm considering for my computer is: http://rbhsound.com/tk5ct.shtml
Interestingly, I should be able to afford them in not very much time. I just have to convince myself to pull the trigger on them. At the very least, it should be a marginal improvement over my killer Logitech Z-640's, even though there's only 2 of these speakers.

I was planning on jumping on them while they are on sale. I'll take white for $75 off. My current speakers are OK, I bought them almost 10 years ago for my 17th birthday. I remember playing Resident Evil for my friends and they were blown away. I had them hooked up to an old Sansui receiver that pushed 150 watts x 4 channels for some Dolby Surround action. My Sennheiser headphones have spoiled me, and now they sound muffled, but that could be due to the POS Sony receiver. When I get my 605, I'll know.
BTW, those will be badass PC speakers. Right now I'm using cheapo 5.1 Logitechs I bought for $50. Need to upgrade, or just run my PC through my 605's multi channel input.

Yea, that dungeon was stupid. The thing that gets me, though, is that the combat sucks, and it feels more like a puzzle game than anything. There's no real skill involved in the game whatsoever. The dungeons are boring, and this is the first time I've said that about a Zelda game. And the controls, while neato for boomerangs and bombs, suck when you realize that you move and attack the same way.

AC was for me. I loved that game. what where your exact thoughts on it Silent?
I liked almost everything about AC except for two main things.
#1. The combat. The combat to me got really old and really fast. Basically the combat was just to hold a button and counter. Sure you could attack but it was just you hitting one button or holding the button over and over waiting for a guard to let his uh guard down. It could of got really old and fast to me because I was doing all the investigations in every area before heading off to do the assassination. (Saving all the civilians, interrogation's, pick pocketing, ect)
#2 It was very repetitive. Like I mentioned above it was basically the same thing over and over. Sure you could choose how and when you wanted to do the investigations, but when it is just the same shit over and over does it really matter what/when you decide to choose it? It would of been much better if you had different options or just something else to it that AC seemed to be missing. So basically I thought the game play was pretty weak, and it was very repetitive. Also a complaint but not a huge one is I thought the replay value for this game is very low. As I actually like a reason to go back and play the game, which in AC case the only reason to replay it is for the great story.
Those are my main two complaints about AC, if I can remember anymore I'll be sure to post it. The game does do a lot of good things though, I thought the story was great, the graphics were top notch, and the sound was also done very well. I jumped from building to building with ease and never once had any issues with the controls. So you could add they did the controls great as well. All -n- all I'll keep AC in my collection, but I really hope AC2 focuses more on the game play and less on the graphics.

I didn't mind the same side missions in each city, the only ones that I truly hated where interrogations, with pickpocketing being my favorite.
I can understand where you're coming from with the repetitiveness, but IMO it wasn't that bad. And I liked the combat, it wasn't as good as PoP (which I'm almost convinced that this was really set to be the next PoP game, but scrapped it and kept the mechanics) but it wasn't all bad. Just the final boss fight is what really pissed me off with the combat.

You should at least give Drill Dozer a shot first. It's fun and short. Though I didn't like it enough to hold on to it when I was done. M vs. DK I would definitely sell. I loved Symphonia but did not love Abyss. The dungeons couldn't hold a candle to the ones in Symph, and towards the end it just became a game of read-the-text. Which is ok when the story is great, but when you're just flying around the world, asking world leaders for permission to do things, it's not so great.

Yeah, I'm really struggling to get motivated to finish it. Hate the stupid ocean king temple. I hate back tracking/redoing stuff and I hate timed levels so it's just total shit for me.
Not too fond of the controls either. I mean they work fine, but they're less responsive/accurate than normal controls so it just feels stupid to me.
Still I don't know that I'd call the game pretty crappy, more just mediocre for a Zelda game.

Do you think its worth it to buy a pair of those svs speakers to replace my floorstanding ones, they are really old 20+, and the left one I think has a blown tweeter since any notes in the high or midrange spectrum have a crackling sound to it.

Seriously, Shinobi is phenomenal. It doesn't look as good as Ninja Gaiden and its levels aren't particularly inventive, but the core gameplay is absolute perfection and that makes it soooo much better than the vast majority of action games. 9/10, easily (based on 2002 standards.)

Nightshade really was disappointing. I loved some of the songs in the soundtrack, and the first 4 levels had promise, but after that, you get boring, generic warehouses, levels that repeat themselves and that sucked the first time around, and awful, awful vehicle stages. I really liked level 10... the rainy highway level, but that + 4 other decent levels isn't enough to make a game fun when the majority of the game sucks.

It had the same camera system, but the issue with Nightshade was the awful lock on that made the camera view useless a lot of the time. I actually prefer Shinobi's camera system to 99.9% of 3D games though, because you always have complete control over it. And yeah, the Jappo version was called Kunoichi.

It was pretty crazy, and that was it. Chaos is not game design. It's stupid and noisy, just like Inu's mom when we have our skirmishes. The pacing is still non-stop ZOMG SHOOT EVERYTHING OVER AND OVER AND OVER and while there's some story segments to slow things down, there's simply no variety to the game. It's either crazy or sedentary. And shooting a gun still isn't fun.

The problem with CoD4 single player is that it is a horrible mess and the levels aren't intelligently designed. They're just a string of invisible breaking points where enemies will stop spawning endlessly. Even "all ghillied up" while a nice diversion, wasn't that great, because of the absolutely atrocious ending to that level. Finishing that section was all about luck and breaking the game's AI, finding a place to hide that they weren't programmed to check.
CoD4 consistently reminded me that it was a game and nothing more at every turn. I might as well have been playing Doom, the way the insurgents spawned in everywhere.
This is coming from someone who finished and greatly enjoyed CoD2 on Veteran, so no "you just suck" complaints. That game was well done, this one isn't.

Look man, I am sorry if I made you feel bad, I needed cash and it was the only thing I had on hand that people wanted and I could part with. I wasn't trying to complain about when the game was coming in and I just really couldn't wait. I am happy that you gave stuff away and I would have given it away if I didn't really need to sell it. Again I am sorry.

Leave the poor guy alone. It was his game once he received it, he wanted to sell it. Who cares? Jeez.

It's true, Jesus does care.
Anyway, Possum, why you headed for NYC? The people there are pricks.
Additionally, I ended up not playing Trauma Center: New Blood. I want to play it ASAP though. Must operate.
Anyway, Ima go watch the SFIV episode of the 1up show since I haven't seen the footage yet.

Hey every city has it's different types of pricks, it's just that NYC is more vocal about it. Also, Miami has it's pricks as well, but 90% of the time it dosn't matter because they end up being half naked women that shake their ass all the time.

Speaking of which, next time I'm in West Palm, I've gotta go down to Miami and punch you in the gut for being so weird. :boxing:

I can't to get back to my place in a few days. My 360 is back from repairs and I can finally finish off Bioshock and start up Mass Effect.
The only thing I've really been able to play over Christmas break is Animal Crossing WW. I left the rest of my DS games behind and I already beat the majoriy of the PSP games I brought with me.

DS homebrew is pretty flipping awesome. My sister got one of those datel homebrew/music things and I've been loading it up with stuff. She was jealous of my PSP's emulator stuff. Now I'm jealous. Lots more DS homebrew out there. Most impressive is a painting program with full pressure sensitivity. I had no idea the DS touch screen was even pressure sensitive.
Too bad the SNES emulators aren't better on DS yet.
And shinobi is AWESOME.

The only PS3 games I have are Ridge Racer 7 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma and while I want to at least try Ratchet and Uncharted... yeah, the system hasn't proved itself yet by any stretch of the imagination. I think that'll change next year, but seriously. A year of little more than dreck. C'mon. Even the Wii did better.
...actually, I have like 10 wii games or something and that motha's only been out a year... and it sucked a D for the first half of that year. Damn.
You really should play Uncharted and R&C. Both are fantastic games.
I'm pretty happy with the PS3 this year myself, then again I didn't have a 360 for most of the year so multiplatform meant nothing to me as far as games went...and still doesn't actually. If a game is far and away better on the 360 then I'd get the game for that, but so far games have been pretty much identical and I like having most of my games on one system so it's all been to the PS3 since I had that first :-P I have 7 PS3 games, I've had others in the past, but I'm pretty good at selling ones I don't plan to play for a long while.

Sweet! Friends already! I feel welcomed! Thanks :)
I'm going through the whole list of arcade games and dl'ing the demos. I'm on 66 of 108. After that, I gotta go through everything else on live marketplace. It's going to take a while!

No, I got the Arcade from the Amazon deal. Then I got a 20GB from the GS B2G1 free thing with edge card. After I sell the stuff I don't need, my total cost after everything is about $230. So it's like getting a premium for $230! Whoopee! Sorry, just got xbox live to work after spending my night on it and I'm a little happy.
I also have a lot of 48-hour codes (not sure if they work) and 1 month gold for free. Also got tons of points from smarterchild and the CC B1G1 free, so I'm also good on points.
Quick question about Scene-It on the 360. If I'm slightly below average in terms on knowing movie stuff, would I do alright in it?

I'll be adding you suko once I find a reason to fire my 360 back up. after beating assassin's creed, I can't see any thing on the system to make me play until DMC 4 and after that I'm really not interested in much. I don't understand why I've lost so muich interest in my 360.
edit: someone recommend me something to play on it other than:
mass effect
halo 3
orange box
bioshock
I'm seriously in a rut with the thing.

Almost beat HS just now. I'm on the last part of the last chapter, but I need to get some sleep.
It's a really good game, but it seems like it could use more polish...or something. I enjoyed it a lot though.

oh forgot to say what I'm playing. I'm near the end of Zack and Wiki and have to say if you own a Wii you'd be stupid to not own it unless you hate cute things.
also, finally, for the first time in my life I'm playing a 3D zelda... LoZOoT on the Wii VC. I still say the 2d ones are way more fun, but I am enjoying this one.

Everytime I see Rolento it reminds me I need to play Eye of Judgment. I'm a little lazy to set it up sometimes, even though it's quick.
Also need to give Time Crisis 4 a whirl.

 the way I make it easy is I leave the stand and the camera together and set it aside from the TV. other than that I just bring out the mat and camera and I'm all set. really easy.

I have Mass Effect LE, but apart from that, I see nothing on the horizon that makes me want to turn the system on other than Ninja Gaiden II and maybe Lost Odyssey. At least, there's nothing that's convincing me to buy a new controller yet.
