does anybody have a strange gaming habit? Actually, if you have a non- gaming-related habit, feel free to share

Hmm, lets see...
Well for one, I tend to have a set mind that "this" game will/is going to be better than "that" game if "this" game was bought new, as opposed to used.
When I buy a new game, I was my hands and let them dry for about two minutes, then cautiously open the game as if it were a bomb easily triggered by the slightest of hand.
If were talking RPG's here, I must complete the game 100%, every boss, every character, weapon, item, map, secret, etc, otherwise I go nuts!
Weird, but if a friend of mine says there going to get a game, I usually want to get it first or I don't want it. If I show them a trailer of some sort, and they quickly respond with "Ghey!", then I kinda lose interest in it as well.
Ranking games, such as Metroid Prime Hunters, where you have a scored based on kills, and such, if someone ruins my 100% score I have a fit, but usually get over it. Now if I let someone borrow it, and they bring my ranking down, I'll kick them >_>

I only move left in games. If that inhibits me from finishing the game, so be it...but I'm not fucking moving right!!! So don't even think about asking. I HAVE MY REASONS.

Not sure how strange it is but:
With my PS2 especially, I made anyone who touched my controller wash their hands first. I also followed this rule. My PS2 was my baby, and I had a friend who always had people over to play N64, and everyone would eat (chips, cheetos, whatever) and drink while playing, etc. Everytime I played a game at his place I had to wash my hands after using the controller because it was so sticky and gross. I was NOT going to have that happen to my controllers.
Riyonuk reminded me of another one:
When I got Metal Gear Solid 3, and realized that you could interrogate people and cut their throats, that was the fate of every single enemy. That made the one level where you walk down the river of everyone you've killed a real BITCH
That's all I can think of right now.

I am very, very anal about people wrapping cords around controllers. The cords end up with kinks in them that way. To me it is much better to have a huge knot of controllers then a kinked cord.

Just bought Rock Band for the PS3 a couple of weeks ago... Only played it for around an hour or so. :x

Starting a new game for me is like a big event. I wash my hands, I wash off the controller, I wipe down the TV screen. Then I carefully open the game and start it up. I get myself a cold drink, and get comfy and settle down to play.

My superstition comes with titles I have marked as day one purchases. Any other game I can take home and play right away, whether I have 5 minutes or 3 hours. The games I am anticipating are very different.
For example, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. I didn't play the game for the first month I had it. I had to be in the mood to play video games, had no prior tasks that could divide my attention (class work, cleaning, etc.), and had 5+ hours to play video games.

I have a bad habit of buying games and never playing them and instead just end up buying more and more until I realize I have a problem, but by then it's too late...
When I actually do end up opening a new sealed game, I usually end up smelling it once I open up the case. By smell I really mean like Al Pacino burying his face in a mountain of Cocaine kinda smelling... It disturbs one of my friends whenever she bare witnesses it.

It disturbs one of my friends whenever she bare witnesses it.Just tell her to put her clothes back on then.
My strange habits?
I will read reviews, even after buying a game, as if I have to justify the purchase to myself.
It bothers me to have sealed games, I'll make excuses to open it and play for half an hour, before going back to the game I was trying to beat.
When I get a new system (recently the PSP and 360), I have to track down all the titles (that I can afford) that I've heard about over the last year that I wanted in 2 or 3 weeks.
I probably spend almost as much time reading game blogs and tracking down deals as I do playing games.

I get sort of like that too. One of my big pet peeves is during very cinematic/story intensive games when people ruin the mood for me (ie: Mass Effect recently). If my wife tries talking to me or turning on the lights during a dialogue scene I get really pissed off and tell her she's ruining the game for me and that it's the same as talking during a movie.

When my games are new I refuse to touch the manual or let anyone else touch it.

I do the same exact thing. All my manuals from games I bought new are pristine, no finger prints or marks. The thing that annoys me the most about that, is if and when someone just needs to see my games, first thing they do is go for the manual. They might have no interest in the game, they are just going through my collection and their feable little minds just need to touch the manual. They don't even take care pulling them out, they just bend the corners and sides as they try to remove it. It's just funny, if I myself didn't touch that manual yet, what makes you think I'll let you do that before I do? That's why I avoid them even coming near my stash.
One habit I have is regarding last rpg bosses or specifics in a game. If I'm playing a game currently, and someone I know is playing the same game (or might play it relatively soon), if I'm at the last boss or some specific event they haven't gotten to, I don't let them see me play if they come over. Dunno if I'm doing it for them, so it doesn't "spoil" anything, or rather I want them to go through the work and get there themselves to witness boss/event.

As.
When my games are new I refuse to touch the manual or let anyone else touch it.
Charged. Well, it's not that I refuse to touch it, it's just that I have no reason to, and I feel like if I don't have a reason within the first hour or so playing it, there's no reason to ever touch/read it.
I have a bad habit about buying a game within the first week of it being released and never playing it. Case in point: Mass Effect, Blacksite: Area 51, Kane and Lynch (played it once with a friend, I enjoyed it, but I won't play it again until he and I finish co-op), Assassin's Creed. Though i'll start on AC here shortly.
If I get a game, I have to have it complete with box and manual and it has to be in good shape. The only time I will ever make an exception is if I rarely see it complete and I want to go ahead and get it, and somewhere down the road, I'll get a manual for it. I think the only thing I have that needs a manual right now is Furious Karting on XBox. I picked it up because I never see it.
Don't know if its too strange but I avoid opening new games as long as possible. I never open them up as soon as I get home just to check them out for a minute. I'll wait until I think I'm going to really play through the game and give preference to games I bought used over having to open something new.
Reason behind it is so that if I end up selling a game w/o getting around to playing it, it will still be sealed.

Im the same way.
I never open a sealed game until Im ready to play it. And I dont mean play it as in 'check it out for a few minutes', I mean play it as in fully intending to beat it.
That way if I never get to a game, it holds as much of its resell/trade value as possible.
I tend to buy games when I see good deals for them and not necessarily cos Im dying to play them, so I end up with alot of sealed games.

Mmm. If I don't beat a game within the first week, I probably never ever beat it.
For example, I have 51 stars in Mario Galaxy, a mere 9 away, haven't touched it in about 3 weeks.
14 hours in Mass Effect, haven't touched it in about 2 weeks.

-I buy a lot more games than I actually play...my backlog of games is probably 100-200+ =/
-I talk about games more often than I play them (full time college student, and also have a part time job...no time for games nowadays)
-I've got a serious case of OCD, so I always wash my hands before I touch any of my games or controllers. All of my games are in pristine condition...I don't even bother to look through the manuals 'cause I don't want to ruin them.
-Whenever my friends touch my controllers, I wipe them off with a wet cloth. Yep, I'm a freak.

It's very reassuring...when I used to collect older systems, I'd clean the crap out of every game and system I picked up. I had a whole kit with qtips, rags, rubbing alcohol, goo gone, and pins. looking back, it was a big pain in the ass and I'm shocked at how many people handle stuff with their hands caked in food, but it was all part of the hunt...

I have a very bad habit of starting up anything and suddenly leaving it idle for no apparent reason at all. Then coming back to it at that same exact spot like an hour later or whatever, forgetting what it was I needed to be doing in the first place and turning the game off.

The only gaming habit I have that might be unusual is that I have to play games in sequential order, even if they're not really that related. Furthermore, a really shitty entry can tank the entire series for me.
For instance, I'm about 60 hours into Revelations: Persona at the moment. Not because I wanted to play it so much, but because I refuse to touch 2 or 3 without having the history under my belt, and I really want to play 3.
Also, the Final Fantasy series is effectively dead to me now, since I couldnt stand 10 and therefore cant play 12.

After playing for a few hours I'll pause the game instead of saving. In this time I'll go on the internet, cook lunch, do some chores, just take a break. The music will repeat and start to get annoying, but instead of saving and turing it off I'll just mute the audio. This really racks up the clock in RPGs. While a game may take your average gamer 40 hours, it'll take me 60. I really shouldn't do this for my energy bill's sake.
Also for every game I beat for the first time I force myself to watch the credits all the way through and try to pronounce the Japanese names a loud.

I have a problem with starting games, finishing all the optional parts, then getting to the last boss and turning it off. I think I have around 20 games with saves 10-15 minutes from beating them, but I still haven't done it. These games include:
Final Fantasy 7, 8, 10, 10-2, 12, Breath of Fire 4, Dragon Quest 8, Shadow Hearts Covenant, From the New World, Godhand.... and many many more.

I feel the need to catch up on stories firsthand. I bought Kingdom Hearts II and felt like I HAD to play through the first one again. Thus completely erasing the point of buying it the first day. Almost made myself play the crappy GBA game again too.
If I start a game and stop before completion it's a do-over. So right now I'm playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance. If I had a bunch of personal life stuff come up and keep me from playing for like month? I'd have to start over, even if I hated the experience of playing the same thing over.

I have a real bad habit of chucking the controller/mouse when I get mad playing FPS'ers. Destroyed 3 Dual Shock 2's, one Sixaxis, 4 mouses, (3 of them happened to be expensive $50+ ones) a keyboard, and my beloved Weighted Companion Cube papercraft due to collateral damage. Fortunately, I made two of them and I whisper sweet nothings to it everyday promising to never hurt another companion cube till the day I die.
To cope with my anger issues, I bought an anger management plushie to crush in my hands everytime some random bullshit headshot kills me. I am happy to say that I've gone destruction free for 4 months.

Washing my hands before I handle discs or controllers.
Cleaning my room before playing games.
Reading about games I want to play rather than playing them.
Taking so long to decide on a game that I run out of play time.
Buying more games than I "need" (I have tons of sealed games waiting to be played).
I also clean my consoles/controllers every few months with a toothbrush and alcohol. I vaccuum all the fans on the consoles themselves.

Atleast now i know im not alone, but yea :( the only game i play when i have the time is world of warcraft, but we all know MMORPG's dont truly have an end anyways, so no biggie there.

When I was a kid I had to be the first kid in the neighborhood to beat a new game.
Now I just keep buying games and systems but never seem to play anything except 360. Why do I need 8 Gameboys or 2 Wonderswans?

LOL when you mentioned this I thought of that You Tube video of the little German kid beating the hell out of his computer after getting killed in UT.
The only game I ever busted a controller over in frustration was Art of Fighting for the SNES ages ago.
You should invest in one of the NERF controllers, those are usually safe for throwing. :)
I vaccuum all the fans on the consoles themselves.
I was thinking of getting one of those little USB keyboard vacuums for PC and consoles for this purpose.. Do they do a good job?
