As the title says, I just need to know what is the best of the best in terms of stuff I should get in terms of accessories and best prices/places to buy...

mainly wondering about:

GC Controller(s)
VC Controller(s)
Wii Remote Chargers (is the nyko the best?)

and anything else... if I get a rail shooter, I'll probably pick up the Perfect Shot as well...

Classic Controller is pretty good! Seriously.
They are good for ALL games, with the exception of SOME N64 games. Currently, there's 10 N64 games on the VC. A wavebird is great to have too, but if you get a Wavebird then you should let yourself be interested in some Gamecube games (Whole separate thread)

Def get yourself a points card or 2. There's a lot of some great VC games.
I don't have any remote chargers, but seriously..I'm not that partial to them. I'd recommend some good rechargable batteries. I've been using them since I got my Wii (launch) and they last awhile.

I know you said you are interested in the Perfect Shot, I am too. But I DO own 2 Zappers and they are great. Link's Crossbow Training is a pretty fun game, IMO. Having a Zapper AND a Perfect Shot laying around isn't a bad idea at all, especially if you end up getting Ghost Squad. That'd be kinda selfish for YOU to have a gun..and your partner to use a PUNY remote alone! ;)

I'm guessing your Wii DID come with the remote jacket? If it didn't, order them from the Nintendo store (free).

So there you have it
-Classic Controller
-Wavebird for some N64 games, but more importantly Gamecube games (Don't forget to get a GCN memory card!)
-Wii points card or 2. (Or sign up for some freebie sites and get them for free!)
-Rechargable batteries > Charge Stations
-The Zapper IS a good gun, and Link's Crossbow Training IS fun.

thanks lilboo huge help. I haven't cracked open my Wii yet, so just one other question: can I use my credit card to purchase points online or do I have to get a card? I expect it to work like XBLA, so probably both are an option.

You can purchase them on your Wii like you can on XBLA. You can also buy them in different amounts TOO. Though, you're credit card info doesn't stay saved on file. :-(

No man is equipped unless they have Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. Are you single? That game is a chick magnet and will get you laid. Are you married? The wife will love this game, and it will get you laid. Do you have a girlfriend? She will love this game, and stay so late, that she'll have to stay the night, and you will more than likely...

You get the idea.

On a serious side, congrats on getting a Wii, there are quite a few games out already that you should most certainly find extremely enjoyable. As far as "gear" is concerned...

1. Make sure to reigster your Wii on your new (or old) MyNintendo account. You should also register any games for your Wii that are registrable - the benefits are nice.
2. Get free Wii Remote jackets (I call them condoms, because I'm immature, and because that annoys my wife) from the Nintendo store - it's possible that a my nintendo is not optional in that case.
3. Get new and improved awesome "lock in place" straps for the Wii Remote by calling Nintendo and asking for some. They'll ship them right over.
4. If you don't have a GameCube controller or a WaveBird, a Classic Controller is an excellent purchase, since it's one of the best controllers ever. I don't have one, as of yet, but I played with one at Strell's house, and I really _really_ like it.
5. I suggest picking up Wii Play for an extra Remote, especially since it'll give you a few fun things to play with your friends/family/loved ones. Do keep in mind that the game is worth exactly what you paid for - $10 at the most.

And don't forget to pick up some awesome games!

Whoa, wait, are these different from the replacement straps I got several months ago?

And welcome aboard Rolento - I had been playing nothing but Wii for the last few weeks. I finally fired up the ol' 360 again tonight.

Hopefully we'll hear some Animal Crossing news soon!

Actually this wasn't a recommend games topic. He was just curious to know about some accessories which is fine since THIS kind of topic doesn't come up often.

Rechargeable batteries are far superior to charging packs. Just get a decent charger, and buy a set of 2600mh Ni Cad batteries. In the long run they are more /versatile./ Which means cheaper; a wii mote charge pack only fits a wii mote, which means you'll have to buy charge packs again in future for whatever controller you use in future.

If you need a HDTV component cable for your WII, use Monoprice.com. You'll save a good deal of cash if you are willing to wait for it to be mailed to you. They also sell silcone sleeves for Wii Motes in /BLACK./

I'm not sure if you use a wired or a wireless router for your game consoles. Personally, I prefer wired. Wii USB to LAN adapter.

I would say you should get yourself:

(1) Wii-play for the extra remote and decent games.
(2) Component cables, they do make a slight difference.
(3) Free condoms (I'm immature too). They look and feel good and protect things.
(4) These 4 games: Zelda, Metroid, Mario, RE4. Do it!
(5) Company. The first time you've got a room full of people drooling over how cool the wii motion stuff is on wii sports you'll think "I didnt know video games could do this!" It's epic.

I've got to agree with the sentiments so far. I'll add to it with my top things to start out with --
Wii Play, for extra controller + game worth about $10
Free Wii-mote covers from Nintendo
Extra nunchuck - Always a plus when you're starting out -- let's you start out with great, multi-player Boxing action.
Wii Zapper - I find the game that comes with it fun, plus, it's fun to use with Wii Play and Sonic & Mario @ the Olympics
Everyone else more or less said anything else I could say.

so far here's what I definitely will be getting:

Wii Play (Picking it up today)
Zack and Wiki (A must since I like alot about it)

the things I'm still wondering:

is it possible to play GC games with a VC controller? I can't find info on this...

also, I'm still 50/50 on getting a charger or rechargeable battery's... I get discount on batteries and chargers at my job (CVS), so it migth be cheaper to go that way.

@io: yeah, Animal Crossing needs to get here so you and I can spend hours fishing again in the rain/snow >_<

Gamecube controller sucks for a variety of games such as Mario platformers. To get the best of all worlds, a CC is somewhat necessary.

Component cables.
Wavebird.

I don't think you can play GC games with the Classic controller. I don't have a Classic controller, but I *think* it doesn't have a c-stick and Z button on it. If it does, than perhaps you can play the cube games.

No NGC games with the CC.

In a way, but CC = Classic Controller. Yes, it's the controller used for the VC..but I guess I'm just being a bit technical

There is that Nyko (I believe) third party controller the Thrustmaster that works with GC and any of the VC games. Also it comes so you can map the buttons so you can change what is what. I haven't actually gotten it, but will be. There is another thread with people who did obtain one through a deal with Dell, and some of them seem to like it. It has gotten some nice reviews as well.

well, slowly I'm getting there. Today i picked up Wii Play and Zack and Wiki. Once my next paycheck rolls in I'll be going out to get the CC controller, a GC controller, a GC memory card, nunchuck, and some VC and GC games. I think i know what I need mostly now. all you have helped. thanks once again.
