I am thinking of doing this and I was just curious what others would do in this situation. I bought a used core 360 from GS and got a 1 year warranty with it. Recently one of my analog sticks broke in a frenzy of whatever game I was playing at the time. Obviously a new wireless controller is $50+tx.

The point I'm getting at is that I could return my core unit ($259.99 that I paid) to GS and get a new Arcade system for $20+tx. I'm heavily considering it since I'd get the controller. Ideas?

Well it depends. The cost of gas just to get to GameStop, does it cost more than $20? For me, the closest town is about 40 miles aways..

Also, I believe that's what warranty's are for :D

There is one that is around 8 miles away haha.
I wasn't sure if it would be wasteful to just take the whole thing back for a broken controller, but it's not like they would just swap out controllers so I might as well get the whole shebang ya know?

If I'm reading your correctly, you purchased the core unit and the one year GameStop warranty. If that's what you're talking about, remember that once you bring the system in (with the controller and whatever else came with it), you're ending the GS warranty.

Your new system will come with the Microsoft warranty obviously (as your core unit should have, if it was new). But if you want the convenience of the 1 year Game Stop Warranty, you're going to have to buy a new 1 year warranty to cover your new system.

I strongly disagree with this GS practice (the warranty on my car doesn't cover the first problem within 3 years/36k miles, it covers any problems within 3 years/36k miles). But that's how they make their money.

Yeah I know it'll end my current warranty but I guess it's better than not being able to play. That and the new systems have the redesign I think.

If you end up returning it, buy it back elsewhere. I recommend Best Buy.

Seconded. It's GameStop...fuck ethics. While you're there you should flip 500 copies of some game....and maybe flip off the manager as you leave. :)

I won't get cash only credit.

You should get cash, you paid for a product and it is faulty.
Cash as long as you have a recipt.

I would just get a new controller and wait till the warranty is almost over.

Haha... now that's an idea.

I never knew GS lets you just return a system if you purchased their extended warranty. I always thought they just replaced with system with a refurb or a new one.

If your current unit is playing flawlessly, consider that with a new unit you would be playing Russian Roulette. I'm not sure that chance is worth it for just a controller. Also, you might want to call up a store and mention your problem. Maybe they have another returned warranty unit that they would let you swap the controller from. That's really better for them also, so make sure you frame it that way. (I worked at a game store where we would cannabilize returns for parts to make other customers happy. But it wasn't GS... lol)

If you have the one year warrenty you cannot return it for cash. They will only exchange it with another one.

If you're within 30 days it does not void out the one year warrenty.

GameStop no longer sells warrenties on the Xbox 360. We went over this at a meeting.

the way it was explained to me when I got it, if I bought the warranty I could return the system at any time for any reason within the year and receive 100% credit to the store. I asked if he meant that even if I just didn't want it anymore I could do that and he nodded and said yes. He was also one of the mgr's.
Could still be bs though.

Maybe that manager is a really cool guy. I was just stating the official policy as far as the warrenties are concerned. I've done similar things for customers if they're cool.

Might want to make sure that guy is working when you return it lol.

I don't see why it would be a problem since I'm giving them more cash instead of trying to do an even trade.

The first 360 I had was a refurb core that didn't work from the start and I took it back and swapped it for a new core. That one died and now I have this refurb core.

This one is supposedly heatsink'd better than the last ones. I'm fairly sure the arcade ones are fairly good to go for the most part also.

Okay I swapped out my system for a new Arcade one amidst much chatter from the employees. The manager finally said just give him what he paid for it in credit and let him pay the rest if he wants.

Not bad for $22.

Why was there chatter? You buy the warrenty for these sort of things. I'm sure the manager isn't thrilled with another 360 returned, but you paid money for this right (it wasn't free), so I think you should be able to flip it out, if you want to.
