Im glad to get a 360, especially since I thought I wouldnt get much this year! However my mother in law got me the arcade model. Everyone always says you just end up upgrading everything anyways in the long run, especially if you play online or download many games(both of which I do). I was wondering a few things.

1. Is there anything from the Arcade that cant be upgraded. Reading the back of the box for instance it makes it sound like it wont play Xbox games so didnt know if it will just never do this or if a hardrive will let me.

2. About how much will it cost me to upgrade? Is it a ALOT cheaper buying the prem model over arcade or is it just gonna cost me a little extra

3. Is the RRoD still covered if you upgrade everything or are those seperate parts so MS might claim they not the system is faulty?

4. Anything else to know?

Im basically just wondering if I should keep this and cough up the cash out of pocket. Or if I should ask my mother in law for the receipt, return it then spend the $100(this is a little rude so dont want to do it less its gonna cost me shitloads extra or there are other problems.

Thanks guys!

The hard drive lets you play XBox games regardless of what bundle/system you bought.

About $30 more than the premium bundle to buy the 20gb hd seperate.

(279.99 + 99.99 = 379.99 vs. 349.99 bundle)

3. Is the RRoD still covered if you upgrade everything or are those seperate parts so MS might claim they not the system is faulty?

What? Of course it's covered, why wouldn't it be?

Gotta cost more then that. Its lacking the ethernet stuff as well as HD stuff as well as the headset for live play.

you also miss out on the 2 free games that come bundled with the premium. if you were a true cheapass u'd ask for a receipt :)

I know that the old core system also came with just a regular A/V cable instead of the AV/Component combo that the premium has. I don't know if this is still true for the new arcade bundle but if it is and you are planning on hooking into a HDTV via component, that is another thing you should think about.

The arcade bundle doesn't have an ethernet cord.

yeah, but it does come with an ethernet port, so if he bought the hard drive (which if you can find it, it is like $49.98 at tru), he would be able to play online if he has another ethernet cord. the headset is like $20 for a wired one, so if you find the right deals, you could be about breaking even with it other than having the ethernet cord really.

if at all possible i would try to get the reciept ( you can always use the excuse that you will need it in case anything goes wrong cause it,s covered for 3 years by microsoft) once you count the games, wireless controller, hard drive, component cables, ethernet cable and head set its worth the extra $ its even better if you can snag a discount . i managed to pick up a xbox 360 go pro bundle for $317 shipped and as after xmas sales are pretty common ( coupons and such) should not be to difficult.

Pretty much. Off the top of my head, if you were to purchase everything new that came with the Pro, you'd be looking at (new/used):

Core system: $280
Component cables: $15
Hard drive: $100/$60
Headset: $20/$10
Marvel/Forza 2 Bundle: $89.99/$49.99
Ethernet cable: $5+
(well, minus the additional bonus of the arcade games and memory cards, but still).

Like they said, if you can, ask for a receipt (kindly, of course :)). If not; just pick up a used hard drive and I wouldn't worry too much about the rest of it unless you have an HDTV.

Well... it depends on what you want and need, really.

If you can find an HDD at TRU for $50, great. Even still, you can get used ones at GS for $57 (after Edge discount). Ultimately, depending on where you get the harddrive, you end up saving about $10-20.

For me, that was great, since I don't order consoles online. It's a thing. What made me jump was realizing that, if nothing else, that the Arcade at least comes with a wireless controller now. I already have a plethora of ethernet cables floating around, and (I thought) I already had the component cables taken care of (side story). Ultimately, though, I can get another set of cables for $5 or less, so that's no big deal.

So, really, had the component cables worked, I would've gotten a 360 that was close enough to Premium for me for about $350 even, including tax.

I'm not planning on paying for Live, so the headset is useless to me, and I couldn't care less about Marvel/Forza, especially since they actually come in a dualpack (stupid collector quirks!).

Like I said, it's all about your needs. I'm perfectly happy with the Arcade/used HDD I picked up, but you may not be. Apples/oranges.

I was alreaady going to get the receipt, however she purchased it on her Dell Credit card so a return would mean she would have to ship it back to them then they put the money on her card. She then would either have to give me cash for it or buy me the premium and me give her money. Either way is extreamly rude. Besides her family doesnt really do returns, their one of those families where they say if you dont like what you got then let me know and we can return it....but really you never return it.

What im going to do is first and foremost write my mother in law a thank you card/note. Make sure that she understands the present really did mean the world to me and the reason I didnt jump up screaming wasnt because it was the basic model, but because I really never thought I was going to get a 360 since it was such a huge gift. Second though im going to take the system in to Walmart. Alot of retailers allow loose exchanges after Christmas. So im going to take it in with a pair of slippers I want to return. The slippers dont have a receipt either but they have a giant walmart tag on them. Ill tell them straight away I want to return the slippers for a refund and explain that I really want a premium Xbox not the basic model and ask if I can exchange not return the system.

Very well may not work, but its worth a shot and with the slippers having the Walmart sticker and given that im looking to spend MORE money in the store it might work out.

If it works out amazing. If not, eh I just buy the stuff seperatly not a big deal at all.

Hey, here's my two cents...I would keep the arcade model. It comes witha memory card for saves until you can get a hard drive. I think it still comes with the red/yellow/white cables, so that means if you have a hdtv you'll need to upgrade. The arcade model comes with hdmi out port and, if you have that on your tv, you would want to use that. Also, ethernet cords are cheap.

Keep a look out for hard drives at SEARS, KMART, and TRU. They are on clearance at all three places.

Really isn't a big deal turth if your strapped for money just stick with core for now being it still plays everything you want. Only thing you really would upgrade is the Harddrive unless you have an hdtv then I would say just try exchange it for the other model.
