About the Silent Hill franchise

Konami's Silent Hill series first debuted on the PlayStation in 1999, and established the series' brand of psychological horror. It went on to sell over a million units and is considered one of the scariest games of all time. The follow up sequel, Silent Hill 2, was equally well received and praised for its use of new 3D sound technology that added a new dimension to gameplay. Silent Hill 3 was released with critical acclaim for PlayStation2 in August 2003 and is considered to be the best game in the series. The Silent Hill franchise has also expanded into other entertainment genres including a major motion picture and comic series. French production company Davis Films will produce the feature film adaptation of the hit franchise for worldwide release and IDW adapted the Silent Hill franchise into a comic series that debuted in February 2004. The game sucks though. I played the import and then promptly sold it on eBay.

just curious, how does it suck? or does it just not measure up to fatal frame?

I wish that more games came with the soundtracks. Then I would not have to spend even more money on the soundtrack.

Some VERY MINOR, so-called "spoilers" included for SH4. Nothing to do with the story though, just gameplay.

I didn't even like Fatal Frame (gameplay sucked, atmosphere was great though). The game is just flawed and was certainly rushed. Halfway through the game, you have to go back to ALMOST EVERY OLD LEVEL EXCEPT ONE, and then you go fight the final boss. There is no final level, it's just a recycled one from earlier in the game. The recycled levels have very little new in them, and the level designs were terrible and boring to begin with. Not only that, you have a handicapped person following you around in them, and she has to be EXTREMELY close to you to follow you into doors, or else she'll be in the same room with monsters for a few seconds and risk dying. In almost all games that have people following you around they go into whatever room you go into as long as they're in the same room and not all the way on the other side. The story is also lame. Note that I LOVED all previous three Silent Hills.

no I thought FF sucked as well (at least the gameplay and the ending).

We've already disscussed this before, based on DoK's other opinions of other games (and gamefaqs response to the game) I can safely say that SH4 will most likely be my GOTY. BTW those ARE spoilers, please be ever so kind as to MARK them. You may have hated the game, but that sure as hell doesn't mean it's bad. :)

Silent Hill is dead sexy. I preordered SH4 a week ago for Xbox. Can't wait!

That was the coolest fucking thing ANY game developer has ever done. Ever. I saw the SH3 case, picked it up, saw that the soundtrack was included and immediately purchased it. Hooray for Konami!

And I'd like to hear all your opinions when you actually PLAY the game. I'm sure you'll be singing a different tune. Because as of right now, you have no valid argument as to why the game is going to be great except maybe "all the other ones were good!" Well, my friends, let me ask you: Was Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter at least to par with the other games in the series? How about Resident Evil Outbreak? Or Driv3r? I rest my case.

Driver 2 was ass, and some of Capcom's production studios are going downhill. Besides, who ever thought Resident Evil online was actually going to be GOOD?

Yeah I heard that it kind of sucks from other people that have imported. They says it's boring and tedious and not even scary. It's a shame as I've only played SH 2 and 3 which I thought were good games so I had high expectations for 4. After hearing their reviews I'm going into the game with low expectations.

Not even scary? Jesus christ! Watch this trailer:

Those baby headed fuckers and the floating ghosts with broken limbs really freak me out.

^ Hey trust me, I thought those enemies looked and sounded scary too.(at least the baby heads creature did) I don't know if they meant not as scary, or the scariness wore off quickly. I know SH 2 and 3 always seemed to have me in a tense mood through almost the whole game. I haven't played the SH 4 game so I was just saying what people thought of the import. I did watch some of an import that had the floating dudes with distorted backs and limbs, but I didn't have any fear in me like I thought I would. They actually were kind of lame IMO.

I'm still going to get this game cuz I loved SH 2 and 3, but like I said I'm not going in with as high expectations as I was when I first watched some of those trailers.

Dead of Knight: Did you find the game scary? (or at least compared to other Silent Hills)

Dead of Knight

The trailer is FAR scarier than the actual game. The game itself is not scary in the least. Much of it actually takes place in well-lighted areas unlike the other SHs.

Hey Suikoden 3 isn't great compared to Suikoden 2. Silent Hill 4 not being great as the others isn't going to stop me from supporting Konami either. Atleast Konami isn't going Capcom quality with most of their sequels.

I would at least rent it or try it out before buying it. Hell, you will surely be able to beat it during the rental period, it's a short game.

And I agree on the Suikoden thing. What were they thinking?! I have confidence that 4 will be better, though.
