Lets see im the head counselor for my group, so i get paid ok and i usually get tips, for everyone else who isnt a head counselor the job sucks because of low pay, kids stiff you for no reason even though you do a shit load of work, the big bosses think of you as dead weight that are only there too do no work, even though you may do more than even the head. Never be a camp counselor unless you are going too be a head one

I need more specifics. I'm not totally convinced that counseling is lame.

Thanks for the tip. I was almost a camp counselor at boy scout camp. That would have been fun though. Get to shoot rifles and stuff. Start fires. Wilderness survival was fun.

I'm sure it's all about the right attitude. Since it's mostly volunteer (especially for the younger ppl doing it), some will do it, others won't.

im my experience which is about 6 years working here, attitude means nothing, you could treat a kid like shit and get a great tip and visa versa, parents think in a very odd manner.

When I think of Camp Counselors, I think of 2 specific movies:
The first one is "MeatBalls" with Bill Murray. That movie makes a camp counselor's job look cool! I love seeing Bill yuck it up.
The other movie that comes to mind is "Friday the 13th". In that movie, being a camp counselor sucks. Sure there are a lot of hot chicks running around camp that you can sleep with. But if you let some kid drown, thats it...You get a hatchet in the head.
So I'm on the fence when it comes to figuring out if camp counselor is good.

Ugh, I would never be a counselor. Young, stupid kids in large numbers is a force I would never want to deal with. I had hell just tutoring one kid for 1-2 hours a day, there's no way I'd be able to stand a camp all day, every day for an entire summer.

I was a camp counselor back in the day. I took a shit in the woods once while squatting over a fallen tree. My butt cheeks brushed upon some poision ivy. It sucked balls cause I had to calamine lotion my ass for over a week.

Im with you on this one...Ive been a councelor for 3 years now...I work with kids ages 9-14...Its kind-of a "up scale" camp...almost $200 per week...So naturally the kids are spoiled brats...Its a farm day camp so I do enjoy being outdoors and running ropes courses all day (i.e. Rappelling,Rock Climbing, and Tree Climbing) ,but dealing with those whiney bitchy kids is almost too much after 10 weeks...I feel you on this one...I love it and I hate it...

I've been a counselor, and a program director, and well the pay sucks but most counselors I hired (and met) didn't do it for the pay, they did it for the experience and for the good it brought. The camp I worked at (in the middle of nowhere) paid little but one did get to save up some money cause there was nothing to spend money on). Hardest work I probably ever did (physically and emotionally) but the most rewarding. Perhaps my experience was different cause it was at a bible camp, but I must say (to quote ed grimly.... it was most excellent.)

it was incredibly different, why you ask, BECAUSE ITS BIBLE CAMP, day camps take more out of you, especially if all your kids are spoiled rich fucks
