Just got myself a HDMI connection for my HDTV, right the problem is, I can't play my games on the console without it switching to a non-existant DVI connection.
When I load a game on the bottom left hand corner it switches from HDMI to DVI and back again.
I have tried everything and nothing seems to work, I don't even have anything in the DVI connection.
Any thoughts?

Yep, everything is crystal clear as far as the main menu is concerned it's just the games.

My guess is that this has to do with HDCP. Your tv may not have the ability to accept HDCP. Probably the easiest way to test is to use component cables to see if they work when you go to play a game.

I can get the games 2 work only by turning my tv off and on, they worked with component but I don't want that, its a pain. Surely there is a way around it

Keep your AV or component cables hooked up and change the settings to HDMI through that, then switch over to HDMI on your TV.
For me, AV is "Video 2" and HDMI is "video 7" - so I had to switch over from 2 to 7 when I changed my settings to HDMI in the menu.
HDMI was not just "plug and play" for me. I had to do it the way I outlined above.

hook the ps3 up tp the tv with the hdmi cable and then cut the ps3 on but hold your finger on the power button for about 7seconds until you here that second beep. the ps3 will automatically set itself to use whatever cable you're using. If that doesn't work then you might try upgrading your tv's firmware. Or trying the ps3 out with another HDTV.
