I heard rumors that MS was plotting a price drop to counter the AAA PS3 titles on the horizon.

Any "truth" to that rumor?

Trumor alert.

I wouldn't expect another price drop until maybe May (though with E3 being shadow of its former self, those spring price drops may be a thing of the past) or perhaps even until fall 08.

Yeah, I think it was in July. It's such a joke now that it didn't stick in my mind since nothing worthwhile came out of it!

I predict a price drop when MS releases yet another form of the 360.

haven't heard anything, but my money is on a decent price drop when GTA launches. Having a bigger spread between the price of the ps3 and having the bonus content, I would think would help sway customers who are looking for GTA and a next gen system

I think the holiday numbers are going to be a factor, too. I hate to say it, but even if stock seen on store shelves this season is any indication, the 360 doesn't need much help outselling the PS3.

Now, to be fair, having the 4 SKUs makes it tough to gauge, but I rarely saw the Prmium on shelves in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and saw bountiful PS3s. Even the Rock Band sightings bear that out, as right up until Christmas day you could find a PS3 RB... but the 360 was nowhere in sight.

Like I said, just my personal expierience.

So, with them having dropped relatively recently already, and no real need to do so again, I don't see it happening until Spring at the earliest, but that's still unlikely.

MGS4 is going to be a huge game, but I don't honestly think it's going to move systems the way people seem to think it will. And, someone already mentioned GTA... which, frankly, is going to the true gauge of 'the war' between 360 and PS3 (well, if they come out on the same day. Do they? I'm too lazy to check).

Summation: don't expect a pricedrop soon.

We just had a price drop, and a ton of great games come out. I dont think well see another until late next year.

There are literally NO premiums on any store shelves in Washington state. I had to finally break down and order one on Buy.com, but they've got a nice little 5% off up to $15 coupon going so I got mine for 334.99

I think we'll see the Halo edition drop in price so (or Microsoft will have stores bundle it with Halo 3, and reimburse them for the cost of Halo 3).

That's strange... My local Fred Meyer's Electronics department has had Pros every time I went in and Elites about 1/2 the time. I live in Auburn. Anyhow, risky to buy from them since they don't have an extended warranty program.

I'm not expecting to see a price drop that soon since it just got the price slash in august.

Maybe they'll intergrate the HD-DVD player into the xbox 360 console and keep it at around the same price, to match the PS3's blu-ray capability.

And if they don't mention a 360 version of MGS4, I will literally go and buy a PS3 just to play it(If I manage to find a job soon:) )

I doubt they will bundle Halo 3 with it. Isn't it a M rated game? Then they could only sell the system to the 18 an over crowd.

I would think if there are no rumblings of MGS going multiplatform when it launches onk PS3, then we might see a price cut. Although I really don't see MGS being this system savior everyone makes it out to be.

Peter Moore: "I'm not sure why we'd change it. Sony gave us a price drop at E3."

I think this quote still holds true.

Sony needs to drop the 40GB system to $299 or at the very least match the XBOX360 premium price point of $349 to remain competative. 360 has too much of a foothold for them to do any less.

No...

And two price drops in like 6 months? Keep dreaming.

I wouldn't be surprised. PS3 seems to have a lot of momentum now after the price drop. However, since Killzone and Little Big Planet are rumored to have slipped to Nov. 08, who knows.

seems doubtful, maybe the halo edition will drop, but i probably not the others.
