View Full Version : New Xbox games now labelled used at GS

Not sure if this is a repost or not. Anyway, today I was at GS to take advantage of their B2G1F sale when i found a new copy of Fatal Frame on the Xbox. And I found out that they now are selling any new games left over as used, which they did when they sold FF at the used price. So they now apply to the B2G1F. But they won't show up on the store locator as used, since they haven't been reentered into the system as used.
They also did this to the leftover GC and GBA games but I know I saw a post mentioning those.

Indeed. Are there even anymore EB stores that don't look exactly like a GameStop store? They all look the same to me. Some of the EB Games even got their signs replaced with GameStop ones.

Wondering if anyone has actually used the B2G1 deal with new Xbox games. I have a tough time imagining folks at my store to let that go through.

Awesome. I wonder what the used price is on Pump it up. My local store had some of these new.
Edit: 9.99? Awesome price! I'm there.

After all the years of pawning off used games as new, they're trying to confuse the masses by reversing the roles. It's a conspiracy!

Someone definitely needs to grab Ratatouille on XBox and sell it to me for like $20 shipped.
//edit: How much is it used? 26.99? 24.99?

I have been waiting very patiently on the new copy of Samurai Shodown V that has been sitting at my GS, since I knew they were going to roll over to used soon.
Does anyone know if this is universal for all stores, or is it a "whenever we get to it" thing?

Lol, Pump It Up EXCEED is BC, but I have no clue about the pad -- I'm sure one could rig up a custom pad for it tho.

Question: how do you tell the difference between a new and a used game at GS?
Answer: the "new" ones usually have the instructions and the discs have fewer scratches.

The new ones normally have the "white" stickers and marked "NEW" where the used are "yellow" stickers and marked "USED".

Yeah but he's being funny, because a lot of the games they sell as "new" are open.

I just the other day refused to buy a "new" ace combat 6 that had a case with approximately 6 stickers on it and a disc that had clearly been taken home and played by an employee. Stupid.

And this whole deal isn't really recent... as i remember quite a couple of years ago, when i was buying Burnout 1, it was advertised as new, but of course, it was opened... this is precisely why i now would rather buy online from a mega chain or amazon, as opposed to Gamestop.

It should be illegal for a company to own two franchises under two different names. Tricking people into thinking "Gamestop sucks, I'm shopping at EB" and giving their money to the same asshole in the end.

The rest of the Xbox games haven't been converted over to used yet. What happened to the OP, chances are, is that somebody traded in a sealed copy, and the store didn't feel like gutting it.
And why the hell do you guys care about PIU being BC? The mat wouldn't work.
Edit: After re-reading the main post, I have a better explanation. When ringing up new games, if we have a used one, it prompts us with something like "1 + Used Fatal Frame for $9.99. Sell used instead of new? Y N". The employee might have pressed Y instead of N.

Stupid.I once went to pick up a preordered game and the only copy they had was gutted to be a floor model. I was furious and the guy was just like, "It's still new!" I was like what if it was a gift? I vented to him as he was the manager, but regrettably took the game in the end since I didn't know when I'd be able to find Colin McRae 3 again. . .
On topic, the GSs here said they had not converted their xbox games yet, but it may be happening soon.

It won't be until the new year (I know, that's only a few days away). I'll check the gameplanner when I'm at work next and post the scheduled time.

Trading in a sealed game?
I thought GameStop doesn't go for that policy, what with thieves and what not.

You act like a GameStop not following policy is news. We're NOT supposed to, but then again, we're also supposed to hold all reserve games for customers (and not gut them), test the systems (I hear horror stories from you guys about this crap), and not be complete douchebags (apparently that's too much to ask for from the average GameStop employee.)
Really, though, if somebody's trading in a stack of games, and I see a sealed copy of ATV Offroad Fury 2 that's sealed, I'm just going to take it. Who the hell tries to cheat the system by trading in a sealed 6 year old ATV game? Besides, if a customer gets a "used" game that's still sealed, then it tends to make them happy, and everybody wins.
Except the employee, because he still works at GameStop.

Any idea what will happen of the old 12 month kits? I don't imagine that Xbox live cards ever got used SKUs. I tried asking, but the manager insisted the conversion won't happen until February despite the fact all of the new Xbox display cases were pulled and sitting on the back counter.
reibeatall
12-28-2007, 10:15 PM
The old 12 month kits will continue to be sold as is. They can be used for both Xbox AND 360, so it'd be kinda dumb to stop carrying them. And they don't have a used SKU, simply because once they're used, they're trash.
Again, I'll get the dates that the GamePlanner (the little book of events for GS) says the conversion will take place.

The Guy Game might be one to look out for when all stores convert. The new price was $34.99 and the used price (last I checked) was $12.99.
Any other games with a huge difference between new and used prices?

This would be the only way to tell for sure?
Not only are the "new" games often used but the "used" games are sometimes new ones opened by GS when the used price is higher. You'll never find another chain that destroys the value of its product like GS does.
Funcoland sucked in the 16 bit days and GS continues the tradition and just when EB was crafting a decent national used game chain, GS goes and buys them.
I used to go in for the cheap used player's guides but that was too much work for them and they discontinued selling them.
I get sick to my stomach when I go into a GS.

If your GameStop is taking in sealed games, has douchebag employees, or dont test a system for any reason, you work/shop at a shitty GameStop.

Right, because half the games that get stolen aren't shitty X (where x > 3) year old games that look brand new.

I'd love to get the profit from trading in a sealed ATV Offroad Fury 2. Eighty cents. What criminial is going to go through the hastle of stealing a game and only get eighty cents for it? Why not just grab that copy of Madden 08 while you're stealing?

Because it's quite possible that, to a thief, a game is a game and they're not aware that some games don't have as high of a profit value as others?

Regardless, I don't mind perpetuating the cycle of stolen copies of ATV games, just as long as they're for the PS2.
Tsukento
12-29-2007, 11:52 AM
So basically, it's okay for a thief to have stolen something that'll give him very little that could probably cost $10 from another retail store and bring it in to your store. Just as long as it brings in less than a dollar and is only for the PS2?
A thief is still a thief.

Does Gamestop have some stupid quotas for their employees? I really hate that if they do. That would be my number one problem with the chain if it's the case, with opened "new" games number 2.

I can tell you exactly what happened. There were 3 guys working. Two of them have been there a while and the guy who was ringing me up, I don't remember him being there before. Anyway, when ringing me up, he told one of the other guys that the SKU for the new game doesn't exist anymore. So he asked how to search the SKU for the used version. The other guy told him and the rest went normally.

It's more of a percentage quota then a number quota, but yeah. We're expected to pull AT LEAST 10% subs and 10% reserves. And when it comes to used, the manager's bonus is dependent upon beating last year's used and trade dollars. It doesn't matter if they're the first in the company, if they don't beat them, they don't get extra moneys.
Also, ever wonder why really horrible managers stay with the company? Because a district manager will lose his/her bonus if they have to fire a manager. No DM wants to lose money, so that's why managers rarely get fired.

OK, I exaggerate a little but GS is a very disappointing store--and a reason for all of us to be a little queasy. When you consider that we have a national chain devoted to our passion but we get a very poor retailer. We had a really great alternative in EB but GS replaced all of their policies.
