Why couldn't I "Connect to Xbox LIVE"?

I'm STILL having problems. It says I can't connect but then it will log me in and tell me how many friends are online but when I try loading up a game (Rock Band) the entire console freezes. It only works when I specifically don't try and sign in to Live. Also, just logging in locally is very slow - it takes forever for my wallpaper and blades to load up. I just get the little icon with the spinning dots. It's really really frustrating.

I have only been having problems with Messenger at this point. Doesn't want to sign itself in, and then tells me my password is no longer correct (when it is still correct).

I just need to vent...right before the FALL update and right after, we all experienced a few LIVE/COD4 problems. Then right before Xmas and right after, through till today, we're still been having LIVE/COD4 problems. Seems like in the morning and late at night it's possible to get some games in, but god f-ing forbid you get some games in 3-10pm (obviously cause of a sh1t load of people on). Ridiculous, I've never really complained much bout LIVE, lucky to have it, but my good god this is getting out of hand. It's almost as if Gold members are getting shafted because ump-teen 1000's of people got xbox 360's w/LIVE and COD4 for Christmas. Microsoft really needs to do something about this in a faster manner then they are handling this right now. O-K, feel better now :]

Turned it on around 6 pm EST and the blades loaded up. Played CoD4 until 7:30 or so. Had a few time outs and connection messages in the lobby, but was able to get right into a new lobby/match each time.

So still having some issues, but less than previous nights. And given that it's a saturday, that's a good sign since that should be very high load evening.

Not much better for me. I have played off and on for the last few days and I cant believe between playing COD4 and H3 how bad it is. Finding a match takes forever and we are getting dropped a lot. Messing with your friends list can be a real task. I have friend requests that NEVER go away after accepting them. Just retarded stuff. I hope they are not setting tight thinking the problem has been handled or that it will get better on its own.

To some degree I bet they think the problem will be helped by people starting back to work and school Monday but what a piece of @#it Live has been for the past week or more.

Wow Halo 3 was kinda buggy. Played Team Doubles and lost a level because the other team quit before it started...then, we tried another one and I gained TWO levels after the other team quit or was disconnected before it started..Good times with Live.

I haven't gone through all of my XBLA games, but Double Dragon appears as if I own it (which I do - or perhaps it is better to say "I paid for it"). When I start a game, though, it asks me if I want to purchase the full game, and it stops after mission 1.

Not a big deal to me as long as it's resolved eventually. In the meantime, you can bet your ass I won't be buying any XBLA games until I can be assured they'll work irrespective of XBL outages or me having to switch consoles.

I had that happen yesterday. I waited a few minutes and it unfroze. Give it some time and see if that fixes it.

Yeah, well before it started acting up. If it's like my problem, you'll still be up the creek without a paddle if Double Dragon's free. Marketplace says I've paid for and downloaded Streets of Rage 2. But when I play it, it says it's a trial. Even if I delete it and redownload it, I get the same results. So in other words, it's currently impossible for me to play Streets of Rage 2 on my console. I'm not too terribly upset since it's not a game I play often and I now subscribe to gametap, which has it on there, but I DID pay $5 for the game and I'd like it to work.

Nowhere near 10 hours, but I didn't experience any lag, disconnect, or the myriad problems people are describing with XBL (save for my Double Dragon woes, but that's nothing worth getting upset about) in the 3 or so hours I did spend playing it.

My connection isn't too bad as of late, at least in comparison to its previous "NO LIVE FOR YOU!!!" status. However, I still have a good amount of lag when I play online and while it's not necessarily stiffiling, it does throw off most games to the point where unless I want to start getting frustrated I'm better off just playing something offline for a while.

Really? I've actually had no problems in the past 2.5 days. Even earlier today. Granted, I'm talking maybe 2 hours total play time, but matchmaking was fast and I didn't get "game lobby closed" errors. BTW, this is in CoD4.

Seems like if it was just a server capacity issue due to the flux of new users over x-mas coupled with the hoards playing Halo 3 and CoD4 that they'd have that resolved by now. But you'd think a company with the resources of MS could get it fixed MUCH faster. Especially given that they're a computer company.

If it were an attack on their servers, I wouldn't really fault Microsoft (hell, their own OS isn't as secure as it could be), and would like the assailants castrated for the problems they caused us.

In any event, I have experienced this "Cannot connect to Xbox Live" issue near every day since Holiday Havoc 2007. For me, it's a nonissue as I eventually connect, but, ya know, this should be resolved. Soon would be best, considering the impression it will give to new subscribers.

I don't even totally know what this test is but it stands for Maximum Transmission unit. I've tried the test about 10 times now and it hasn't worked a single time.

You may need to manually set your MTU value on the xbox if it keeps failing. Generally the value is 1500 on most networks. Otherwise I'd call your ResNet (or whatever they call it at your University) and find out the MTU value of the network. If they won't give it to you, have them send a tech and fix it for you. It's what they're there for.

I still have issues of not being able to connect to live or it connecting very very slowly. Also, the 360 has frozen a few times when trying to connect to messanger, so I stopped trying that for the time being. Hopefully this is fixed soon.

Do you have a computer that uses the same ethernet port you're using with your console? Copy the MAC address of that computer down onto a piece of paper. Then go into the XBL network settings, and then I think it's like "more" or "custom" or something - change the MAC address to a custom one and copy down the one from your piece of paper. This may solve your problems, but it's not the best of workarounds and could potentially get you in trouble with your resnet office. Your best bet is to call them but this could be a quick fix.

i didnt post it in here, because i dunno, this is a totally new problem for me, and i have had difficulties that were similar to others in the past


what happens is that i try to play an online version of the game it told me to sign in. I try to sign in. It says I am not connected to live. I do the test. It works. Then I try all those steps again. The 2nd test says my ICMP has failed. Turn off the 360 start it back up it says everything is fine. Still can't play online. 4th test says ICMP has failed. Call MSOFT support. Do a bunch of crap unplug everything router and 360. Try again says XBL not working. Then I try a 6th time says everything working. 7th test says ICMP has failed. Also i try to play some of XBLA games while on hold, some of my bought games are in demo version around half actually. Finally talk to a supervisor. We do everything the first guy did. After being on the phone an hour. I am told i should try to update my firmware on the router, which i looked online hasnt had an update since 06. This is wirless, and real far from the router, but he suggests trying just plugging it in. Finally the last option he says is Fios isnt officially compatible with XBL you can try switching ISPs.
