SamuraiSausage, check post #250 to see what system you actually have. Just check your serial number with that chart. I was sent an 80GB, but they fixed the mistake.

Thanks for pointing that out (I missed it scanning the thread), I'll check that today. I was able to give it a good run through. Formatted and setup entire system, played some PS1 and PS2 games as well as watched some standard DVD's. Waiting on a Blu-ray disc to show up from Netflix to test that. I had it running for 6 - 7 hours last night doing various stuff, no problems at all.

Side note: I am surprised to see the PS3 is just as loud as my 360 Elite + HD-DVD player.

Received my PS3 today. I was blown away, it looks like it has never been used. The box even was in great shape.

All the wires and the controller looked untouched. The system itself doesn't have a single mark on it.

Putting it through the ringer for the next 30 days.

Edit: Verified it was a 60gb via serial.

Sony Computer Entertainment America Introduces Metal Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of The Patriots PS3 Bundle Available in Late Q2 2008 in North America

Company Also Announces Limited-Edition God of War(R) PSP(R) Entertainment
Pack and April Availability of DUALSHOCK(R)3 Wireless Controller for North
America

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- At its annual retail and
publisher conference Destination PlayStation, Sony Computer Entertainment
America (SCEA) announced details of upcoming PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) and
PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable) (PSP-2000) hardware bundles with two of the
most highly anticipated 2008 titles. The company also announced the April
2008 availability of DUALSHOCK(R)3 wireless controller in North America.

To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal
Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a
PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal
Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of the Patriots and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller
for $499 (MSRP).

SCEA also announced the June 2008 availability of the limited-edition
God of War(R) PSP Entertainment Pack for $199.99 (MSRP). The God of War
Entertainment Pack will include a "Deep Red" PSP with God of War himself,
Kratos, silk-screened on the back of the unit, a copy of the highly
anticipated upcoming God of War: Chains of Olympus game for PSP, the hit
comedy movie from Columbia Pictures, "Superbad(TM)," on UMD(TM) (Universal
Media Disc), and a PLAYSTATION(R)Network voucher to download Syphon
Filter(R): Combat Ops from PLAYSTATION(R)Store. The stand-alone version of
God of War: Chains of Olympus launches on March 4, 2008.

"Working closely with our retail and publishing partners and sharing
our hardware and software roadmaps at Destination PlayStation gives us a
great opportunity to outline some key milestones for the year. In response
to incredible demand, we will be manufacturing more 80GB PS3s for North
America and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots 80GB PS3 bundle is
an ideal way to offer that continued value to our consumers," said Jack
Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "With Blu-ray having won the format war,
our stellar software line-up and a broad product portfolio, we will
continue to drive the incredible momentum we've been generating since last
fall."

SCEA will introduce the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for the first
time in North America in April 2008 for $54.99 (MSRP). DUALSHOCK 3, which
incorporates both rumble and motion sensing SIXAXIS(TM) technologies,
maintains the award-winning design and precise, responsive features of
PlayStation controllers. The added rumble feature, combined with the
SIXAXIS system, enhances the gamer experience with more interactive,
intuitive and immersive game play experience and will work with more than
100 current PS3 titles.

In additional news coming from Destination PlayStation, SCEA announced
Metal Gear Solid(R)4: Guns of the Patriots will be available in North
America in late Q2 2008. A Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack" will also be
launched to support online game play. Gamers can select a single player
experience or take the action online with up to 16 players and battle it
out using the latest weapons and stealth techniques. For those eager to
take on Solid Snake's nemesis, Liquid Ocelot, a nationwide pre-sell
promotion will enable gamers to pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the
Patriots and be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear
Online scheduled for late April.

Good luck, I don't thin that the 80 GB ever had hardware BC and I believe that Sony said no more hardware BC on any SKU. BUT if you don't care about the BC than the SKU is nice.

80 GB has always been half hardware, half software in the US. The MGS4 pack has been confirmed to be the same 80 GB as the Motorstorm bundle.

Wish it was going to be $400 or $450 though. $500 is steep when you're basically just swapping new controller for old, and MGS for motorstorm.

it's like getting MGS4 for free and a dual shock 3 over sixaxis... couple that up with the Sony card deal and Amazon, and you get it all for 399.99 shipped.

I'm not to worried about the new SKU. I should be able to find MGS4 for $45-50 within the first few weeks online, maybe cheaper, thanks to CAG, and I'll import a DS3 for about $56 - add that all up and you come to about $499 (including the $394 I payed for the refurb 60gb ps3), and I still have full hardware backwards compatibility. Sure I don't have a "new" console, but as long as my console is working, I'm happy.

I'm just saying it's not really a better deal than the Motorstorm bundle. Games get cheap rather quickly, and the DS3 will be packed into all skus soon, probably even by June.

and that would be the key phrase. The newer, cooler ps3's with a warranty from Sony and the bundle announced today have held me back. I've already been through the 360 RRoD 2 times (and yes, everything was fixed for free) and I don't want to go through it with a used gen1 PS3, even if it has full hardware BC. I really hope that everyone has success with their units from Gamefunk, hence the reason I've been in this thread for awhile. The only reason I talk about the new bundle in this thread is because I know there are people in this thread still sitting on the fence.

not a better deal? MGS4 brand new won't drop for awhile, and I just bought Motorstorm in the Gamespot deal for $20.00. DS3 over sixaxis, newer unit with partial hardware BC? I'm sorry but there are a ton of people who would disagree with this, go over to NeoGAF and you'll see the opinions.

I'm not sure why this seems so difficult for people to understand. I know people are excited for MGS4, and it's a nice bundle for someone who was planning on getting a PS3 and MGS4 anyway. I'm just saying that ALL of the SKUs (even the 40GB) will have DS3s soon, so that's a wash, and MGS4 will be obtainable cheaply after release, depending on your patience level (this is CAG after all). Yeah, this is a better option than the 40GB, but I was hoping Sony would really beef up the value proposition for one of their SKUs (i.e. software PS2 BC for the 40GB, for example), and this isn't that. I've expressed this view on NeoGAF, and there are others who love the bundle, but not at $500. Sorry if it infringes on the TEAM SONY(tm) rah-rah spirit.

from what I understand (go to wiki), the current 80GB omits the playstation 2 "emotion engine" CPU chip which the 60GB has, but it still keeps the "Graphics Synthesizer" GPU. Both the CPU and GPU from the PS2 are omitted in the 40GB, so yes, that is partial hardware BC.

I totally understand what you're saying, and I'm far from Team Sony, so GAF probably wasn't the best example on where to go. I skipped the PS2, so BC is kind of a big deal and it's either get one of these Gamefunk systems or continue to hold out. It sucks because it doesn't look like Sony is going to create an SKU with all the chips of the 60GB, yet be quieter, cooler, etc. And I may bite on another SKU other than the MGS4 one if the Dual Shock is there, just depends.... I'm far from trying to debate it.

I just want to know, is warranty from Sony completely out of the question with these systems? Like there is no transfers of who is registered or anything? Like on 360's you can call them and get that changed out and still get your box fixed if it RROD's. A product of this cost I want some sort of manufacturer's warranty.

Received my 60Gb PS3 from gamefunk today. Verified serial number and HD space as a 60Gb. A single motorstorm save on it (from someone testing if the system worked??).

Beautiful system, everything included, not a fingerprint on the console

Oddly, firmware 1.70 on it; did a full reformat and updated firmware, tested PS2 and DVD and running Folding at Home overnight to be sure it survives.

I have a significant PS2 library so I'm glad I picked this up over the 80Gb or 40Gb model (Odin Sphere is in the mail!).

Anyway, just giving two thumbs up to gamefunk. Good customer service here in the forum, and a good system sent out (so far).

I went ahead and updated it, ran through a Blu Ray disc, multiple PS2 games, multiple PS3 games, have run Folding @ Home and downloaded some demos. Not a single hiccup. Great system and I'm highly impressed!

Short answer is: customer service got completely swamped over Monday and actually worked late today to get everything processed.

I'm certain your package is next to their desks and I know it'll get processed and out the door tomorrow morning. If you have your order number, go ahead and email it to me and I'll see if I can get it out before the next pickup (which is usually around 11am). This will have it in your hands before Friday.

We also got a new batch of PS3's in today that look better than any other batch we've had in the past. I'll test it personally, and if it's bunk you can publicly humiliate me (as if sending defective merchandise isn't humiliating enough).

I'll PM you my email so you can send me your order number, or your zipcode, or whatever. I'll find your order either way.

This is why when you know you've ordered something expensive, you keep an eye out for it and/or order it so that with any luck, you'll be HOME when it's delivered.

If I had to rely on the asshole mailman around here to actually alert me to a package being dropped off, I'd have probably had some stuff stolen already too. I've had 2-3 larger packages just dumped off on my doorstep without so much as them ringing the doorbell. How hard is it to ring a fuckin doorbell or knock on the door?

But, as long as I'm given a DC# and they update it from whichever service it's being sent by, I figure out when it'll be on my doorstep and I make time to be home or have someone home to accept it.

This is also what I've told people I've dealt with both here and elsewhere online, to be home or expect to be home when something is delivered. Or, in some rare instances, I'll require a signature, so that some jerkwad postal worker won't just cram it into someones mailbox.

That's the thing, somebody is always here 24/7. Somebody is on the night shift, while others are on the day. I wonder if it even could have been the mail man. But I'm like none of these simple ass folks in my area know shit about ipod repair. Or scene writing books at that. Like you said, his simple ass probably just set it on the porch and left. I've watched that happen. I'm on the verge of getting a P.O. Box just cause. When you think about that though, you paying them not even to leave the building with your shit.

I think a friend of mines will let me deliver to her job where I use to work. Some place really, but different building. Too many people in my office as opposed to her building with a security guard and limited access.

Luckily, our mailperson is usually on a late afternoon schedule(I typically can count on my mail getting here around 4pm-ish every day), so it's usually fairly easy to wait for a package later in the day. But usually when I get a larger package, they deliver it first before going back for the rest of the mail they have to deliver. That's why I said I usually wait around for the mailperson the day I expect the package to arrive.

Hope all goes well with your intended PS3 purchase and delivery, since that's a hell of a lot of money to see disappear.

60gb arrived today and is being put through a couple days of folding@home to test it out. It's cosmetically perfect and seems to be doing fine so far. I also picked up a DS from them last month and it was immaculate as well. I was a little weary of replacing my launch 20gb with a used 60gb but I'm feeling pretty good about it now.

I received my 60gb PS3 a couple days ago and I'm happy so far.

Like most other people here the console, cables, and controller all looked like new and I confirmed myself that it is in fact a 60gb model. There were no saves in memory and it appears to be barely used.
So far it is working fine and I've been running it pretty hard to see how it does. Here's hoping that this one will last for me.

I ordered another controller from them. The select text is worn, there's a little ding above the L1 button, and the left analog has a slight deformation. Not as "like-new" as the one that came with the console, but it works. Guess I'll just give it to Player 2 every time.

I ordered a 60gb PS3 a little over a week ago and received it monday. The moment I booted it up, the fan started making a horribly loud sound as if it was loose and hitting something.

I emailed customer service about it this morning and am waiting to hear back.

Otherwise, the console plays great, and everything came in great condition with all promised accessories. I also ordered an extra controller with FFXII which both came in great condition.

I understand these issues happen and so long as it's resolved ASAP (the initial wait for the console to arrive was enough! :P), I'll be doing business with them again...they've got great deals and respond/process quickly.

I haven't had anymore problems out of mine. Makes me wonder if it was a glitch with the game instead of the actual system. Since that has happened I've put in 8 hours on MGS 3 and played through Ratchet & Clank Future without a hitch.

I got mine Wednesday, one of the "like new" units. Apart from smelling faintly of cigarette smoke and some gunk on the back which wiped off, the PS3 seems perfect. I've been folding to test it out, but so far so good.

Okay, So I finally got my exchange PS3 yesterday, Mary tested it herself. Its running very quiet, and its in excellent condition. Right now I am testing the hell out of it, played oblivion for 2 hours, followed by an update 2.1, PS2 (shadow of colossus) backwards compatibility check, DVD, Pictures, Themes, Divix videos, but I haven't done blu-ray movie check yet.

Thanks Mary, truly a great customer Service. I wouldn't mind buying another system from you guys.

wow i've been putting this off forever beacuse i didnt think i would be getting a ps3 until the unit was like $200... but the death of hd dvd and the fact that the ps3 is more popular means it ain't gunna be dropping anymore in price for a really long time...

might have to jump in.

damn hd-dvd was so promising and i liked it a lot more than blue ray. even the name is better.

Mine showed up yesterday. Here's a quick recap of the experience.

Packing: Wow..words cannot describe. The PS3 box was packed neatly into the shipping box, but as soon as I opened the PS3 box plastic shards poured out. These would prove to be from a PS3 game that was included (Genji). The unit itself was 3/4 covered by its plastic bag and was sitting atop the controller and various cables. I also found a highly mangled Blu-Ray copy of Talladega Nights. A tip for gamefunk, wrap the console in some thin bubble wrap to keep it from flying around in transit. Lord knows how many good shocks it took.

Appearance: The unit has very light surface scratches, hardly noticeable from 2ft away. Brand new from 5ft. The only outstanding flaws are a series of deep scratches under the front USB ports where the previous owner blindly attempted to plug into the USB ports.

Functionality: The unit seems to work fine; definitely louder than my Launch 360, but not by much. This seems to just be the sound of the fans, there's nothing clicking or grinding. I'll assume this is normal. PS3, PS2 games work great.

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. And while I appreciate the Blu-ray movie and PS3 Game, I just wish the shipment was packaged better.

I recived mine in on thursday. The box was really beat up, but honestly who cares. The actual ps3 had very minor scratches and for all intents and purposes was as good as new. The controller has a big white dent/crack in the back, but works fine. The way the system was packaged could have been more secure in my opinion but it got here okay so I guess I can't complain. I've been playing with it the past few days and have had no trouble at all.

Do you have a PS2, or is getting rid of another box attatched to your TV worth $100?

If you don't have a ps2, definitely get the 60.

If you have a ps2, its really up to you. 40GB consumes less power and puts off less heat. It has less USB's no card reader though. still has wi-fi.

Yes, I' have a PS3, my sister currently uses it since I haven't used it since MGS3 lol. So for nearly the same price, a used BC PS3 or a brand new, w/ newer tech 40gb no BC. If I got a 60gb I'd probably purchase a few PS2 RPGs I missed out on, but if not I won't think back on it for a minute to playing them. I guess I just gotta figure it out. I'm very scared of some used unit crapping out on me, yet I like being the guy that has the best of the best when it comes to systems.. I know I do need to figure this out.

And are they new 360 models with Falcon chip and a HDMI port. Because I am really interesting in buying one now.

It's not the greatest deal for CA residents. We get charged for taxes and the shipping is around $20. It comes to around $410-420. Not bad, but at least your usually guranteed a system and have warranty unlike the systems going on ebay.

bigdaddybruce44

The 20GB lacks:

- built-in wireless
- card readers
- chrome trim

If you could find a really great deal on one, though, why not? None of that stuff is really needed. It could also be added via USB...well...except the chrome trim :).

Yeah the benefit seems to be the good customer service (in the thread so far), and fast shipping to CA people.

Since I'm in CA, I personally jumped on the "new" ps3's from amazon warehouse for 450. The ps3 doesn't seem scratched or anything, but the manuals and cords have definitely been rummaged through. Oh well, can't complain... yet.

You'll probably want to consider it. Wireless is good for ps3 updates, free demo downloads, and game purchases off the ps3 store. Of course you can just plug it in through an ethernet cable if you don't mind - or I'm sure there's some kind of wi-fi add-on you could purchase (ok, i'm not sure about that).

Just seems like a good idea for futureproofing yourself.

Well, I would've gone with a 20gb ps3 if I had found one for around $300 or so. Instead I got the 60gb. Turns out I didn't really need wireless for my setup they way my room was organized. I continue to use the ethernet cable instead. As for network play, I use it for Warhawk and Tekken 5 online, which I think has better connection speeds than VF5 online for the 360. Unless you don't like multiplayer games don't worry about it.

No signature for me either, UPS man doesn't even knock. I got my replacement in, after the video problems with my first, yesterday. Its pristine and works absolutley perfectly, its even much quieter than the first one. I also got a free copy of Motorstorm (retail not a not for resell copy), I sent an email about it and they replied saying it was a gift for recieving a defective console and being so patient.

Also i recomend avoiding using the actual PS3 for system updates, its so slow and has a tendency to time out without actually timing out some times. Its so much faster to download it to a memory stick/card (60 and 80gb) or to a usb drive (all versions).

Just received an email from Mary and apparently they ran out of stock earlier this week and thus have not shipped my PS3 60GB yet. She said they received some more in this afternoon and would be sending it out on Monday... with a FREE PS3 GAME and a $10 discount to compensate!
This truly is a display of great customer service and dedication, let's just hope I get that PS3+game soon! Thanks again Mary.

I'd like to start by saying that whatever they are paying Mary isn't enough. Her and I had been in constant contact throughout the process of trying to get me a working PS3. As you guys may or may not remember I was the one who got the PS3 that didn't play PS2 games. I received my 2nd PS3 Monday (2/25) and it has been working great. The only negative thing I have to say is that there was a shipping delay at GameFunk due to "software issues" in the warehouse. That made the system with 2-day priority shipping both ways take almost two weeks to get back to me...

My friend noticed that the PS3 box was beat up but I pointed out that there was little wiggle room in the GameFunk box the PS3 box was in. The Gamefunk box was in good shape so that means the damage to the PS3 box couldn't have happened during shipping. I just thought I'd point that out incase other people didn't realize that. It isn't like our PS3 are being punted down conveyor belts somewhere haha.

I watched a Blu-ray and played a PS2 game on it the first night I got it. I left it on one night and downloaded some demos and between my friends and me we have played it a couple hours every night with no issues. I can't get my WiFi to work but that is an issue with Netgear. So far so good with this system.

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick update. I'm hoping to get the 60GB's in by Friday... however, they might go up a little in price. I'll apologize for that in advance. We also may not be carrying them as often (found this out today  ).

On a brighter note, we should be getting some 40GB's in tomorrow. We're still deciding on whether or not to bundle them with a game, but for sure they will be bundled w/ a Spiderman 3 Blu Ray DVD.

And if you have a myspace, add us as a friend!

Oh, and I forgot to mention one more thing...

We do have a small handful of 60GB's left that are not on our site. These are allocated for exchanges. So if you had a defective console, don't worry. Even though our site shows we're OOS, you'll still get your exchange.

That's all!

Hi, I ordered one of the 60GB PS3's last week. I got my package today, but inside the 60GB box was an 80GB PS3. I'm currently waiting to hear back from the automated customer service at Gamefunk, but I'm wondering if it would be better to just return it or get it replaced, if possible.

Edit: Sounds like I may be gunning for one of those exchange 60GB's, if I can confirm that it's the correct model beforehand.

Well, I received mine in the mail today, and was massively disappointed as it seems to be a Singapore model with a 240v connector. Plus it won't play US PS2 games (the main reason I wanted this over a 40gb model). I sent them an email, if they'll exchange it with a US version i'll be happy, but I'm pretty annoyed at the moment.

Well I got my replacement unit yesterday and everything seems good this time around. Console was in great shape physically and this one actually plays discs! So far I've updated the firmware, tested God of War, watched No Country for Old Men on Bluray, and played some Uncharted. The console did lock up a few times when I was playing around with the web browser and some of the Playstation Network account settings though. I'm going to chalk that up to bad luck or network issues since everything seemed to work when I tried a bit later. I think I'll test out if I can leave the system on overnight running Folding@Home tonight. Big thanks to Mary and Gamefunk for making it right after I got my defective console!

How are you getting it down to almost the same price as the 40gb? Once you factor in shipping I'm getting $421.95 for the 60gigger, whereas the 40gigglebit console can be had for $375 shipped on Amazon.

That said, the 60gb is far superior and even used is probably worth the difference, and this is far cheaper than the 60giggers on ebay. I just hope they have some left when my Sony CC gets here...

$375 shipped on Amazon?! Wow. I think that happened practically overnight. When I checked the other day the lowest bid was $399

That's amazing considering Amazon charges a 15% commission on all console sales. They must be getting their consoles at an incredible price.

Well, they still list them at $399. The trick is that Amazon gives you 5% off anything in your "goldbox" that it recommends you. So you just have to search for a few PS3 related items (I believe the exact algorithm has been nailed down and is out there on the web) and then the PS3 will show up in your goldbox for 5% off (so actually it's $379, not $375 as I had originally mentioned).

But back on topic...

I got a question for fellow PS3 owners:

I don't quite have the huge PS2 game library, so BC is not that important to me. In fact, as long as im able to play Shadow of the Colossus, God of War 1&2 on my PS3, im good to go. I rather have the bigger HD space on my PS3, so i'm eyeballing the 80gigger more than the 60. Will those titles be BC compatible on the 80GB model?

Also, Is the 60GB model more popular by the simple fact that is has full blown BC? Or do they run smoother and/or cooler...and do your laundry and stuff.

Thx in Advnc.

Buy the 40GB and replace the HDD yourself. The PS3 uses standard drives, so no need to pay extra if that's all you're looking for.

Viol8tor, afaik the only advantage the 60gb console offers over the 80gb is the full BC. I'm somewhat sure the games you listed work on the 80, but a google search would probably turn up more official results.

The 60gb console definitely does not run any cooler/quieter, if they anything it's slightly the opposite (though hardly noticeable).

He said he needs some BC, so the 40gb one is out.

the 60gb is only really popular because of the full BC, it actually has defects that the 40/80gb don't have. it has controller interference issues with the sixaxis controller which could cause the controller to disconnect randomly or force buttons to be activated without being pressed. this doesn't happen with all 60gb's but it's been known to happen, and there's a rumor that it can be fixed by using dualshock 3 controllers. as far as i know the 40/80gb don't have this problem. other than that, i don't think there're any differences between how they work.

Lazarus43

ANOTHER $20 spike in the price? DAMN!! I was actually considering getting a prepaid card this weekend and dropping the bills on this finally, but I'm still looking for one in the $300 or under range.

We dropped the 40GB price to $329.95. We also dropped the shipping price. Hopefully it'll spark some interest.

Got my 60GB in today. Very pleased, everything seems to be in working order. Tested some BC, checked the HDD size, downloaded all updates. Everything checked out. This and my other 40GB should last me a very, very long time hopefully.

Got my 60GB today too and was very impressed. It was in great cosmetic condition and all the manuals and cables came in the original OEM packaging.

Only negative was that it didn't come with a USB charging cable like it was supposed to but those are easy to find anyways.

Mary - do you have any codes, specials, sweetners for the CAG crowd? I'd like to pull the trigger on the 60gb PS3, but am still apprehensive buying used even after reading the posts here. Unfortunately I missed out when they were cheaper.

Thanks in advance,
Keith

I would e-mail their customer support with your order number. They seem to be pretty good about sending missing parts out to customers that didn't receive them.

Received my 60GB earlier this week and am very pleased. Haven't had time to turn it on or test yet, but cosmetically I can't even tell that this thing is used. No fingerprints, no scratches, no marks, absolutely perfect. I'll get around to testing it soon and I'll report back.

Also, I'm Canadian so if anyone is looking to order from Mary, expect a 1-2 business day delay for customs processing. I was not charged any customs duties. I got my item about 7 days after I received tracking number. Thanks again Mary!

I'm glad there were no customs duties. I wish we could negotiate those kinds of fees in advance but apparently (with how crazy the exchange rate is) it's not allowed.

It says you are in downtown LA. I'm over in West LA. Any chance I could order and pickup in person to avoid shipping costs?

I already went to the trouble of emailing them a while back and they said NO.

Haha. I have a feeling their 'office' is pretty barren/scary then. Webfronts make sales SO much easier.

Got my 60GB PS3 today. It came in great shape, with the original box and manuals, which I really wasn't expecting. I did get the USB cord in mine, though. Everything looks like new, and it works great. This was a great purchase, and I'd recommend Gamefunk to anyone. Customer service via CAG PM isn't something you'll find just anywhere.

Count me as another satisfied customer. I ordered the 60gb PS3, it arrived in about 3 days. The console itself was in very good shape, minor cosmetic blemishes. The controller was in poor shape, though. I could push the shoulder buttons inside of it if I was not careful. I contacted Mary and she had a new controller to me in less than a week.

I would recommend them to anyone looking for these harder to find units, especially for the after sale support.

And being that we're in downtown LA, you'd have to bring a very large wrench to fend off the angry rats.

But no, sorry, we don't do pickups. We're not really set up to offer that sort of service. Maybe someday we'll have a brick and mortar store, but right now we live in a warehouse.

i got my ps3 today... i wish i could be another success story but my ps3 doesn't work. when i say doesn't work i mean it won't play disks of any kind. period. i put the disk in and it doesn't spin or anything. i see the little icon in the upper right corner telling me that the system is doing something but the system never recognizes the disk.

sigh

if there is something i'm doing wrong let me know. maybe there is a "read disk" setting that is switched to off? lol. i looked at the parental control so i know its not that. i guess theres big reason gamefunk sells them so cheap.

I just got my replacement 60gig today (the original was an 80gig in a 60gig box). It's looking great. I've tried it out with a couple of things (PS2 game and Blu Ray disc) and everything seems good. The box and the internals (cardboard holding everything together) was even in better shape than the original (which was packed in bubble wrap).

Because of some weirdness with my email, I couldn't communicate directly with customer service. But Mary acted as the go-between and kept in touch to make sure everything went satisfactorily. That personal dedication really makes a difference. I'll be checking GameFunk regularly from now on for used games. Thank you very much!

I ordered mine last Saturday and ended up getting two different tracking numbers from two different companies scheduled to arrive on two different days. One was 9lbs and one 17lbs.

The first was from FedEx and was supposed to arrive today, but no tracking information has been updated on it at all and it wasn't delivered today.

The other is from UPS and is supposed to arrive on Monday.

I'm kind of confused as to what is going on, but I guess I'll find out on Monday ;)

I know my PS3 was shipped as a 17 lb. package via UPS. That is also what the shipping label they sent me for my return said. I would trust the 17 lb one.

Just an update on my PS3. I've had it for around 2 months now and finished playing Uncharted and currently playing Heavenly Sword on it. No issues with it so far and downloaded/played demos on it. Waiting for my MSG Essentials to arrive from Amazon so I can test out the BC on it.

My PS3 seems to be working now. At first it wouldn't spin disks at all but I decided that perhaps, like many many computer problems I've had, downloading an update would fix the problem. Astonishingly, after like 5 hours of downloading the giant patch, the PS3 restarted and recognized the DVD I had in there. Then it recognized and played the blu-ray and then resistance. All seems to be working well.

I really want to keep this unit because there wasn't so much as a smudge on it. Like others have said you could have told me it was new and I would definitely have believed you. It's also amazingly quiet. Perhaps as quiet if not quieter than my PS2. I wish I could say that about my 360.

I'll be testing it more tonight. Hopefully I will only have good things to say in the oncoming months.

Got mine yesterday. Everything appears to be good so far.

I got scared at first because the instruction manual appears to be that of a 40gb, because it said that this model of the ps3 did not support ps2. But the actual unit I got appears to be a 60gb, so it's all good.

ANOTHER price hike? Geez...I should have jumped on this a long time ago. If shipping was free, I'd bite, but at this point I think I'm better off just getting a 40 gig (or a 360).

SimplyBlue
03-26-2008, 09:56 PM
Yeah, I'm surprised people were still willing to buy them with a $30 increase after all the complaining against doing a price hike in the beginning of the thread.

03-26-2008, 10:11 PM
Wow, The previous prices made me consider buying used, which i would rarely do for a disc based console, but i already own a ps2 and the potential risk/trouble that buying used has no longer outweighs the benefits (warranty, ect.) of buying a new 40gig.

I had been waiting till I had a summer job in early May to buy one of these, but now I probably won't.
