Alright... I'm sure you all noticed the recent price hike. Because of the scarcity it had to be done. The wholesale price broke $400 so there wasn't too much I could do.

Feel free to yell at me via PM :(

I spent the last 30 minutes calling Kmarts in a 100 mile radius. The one closest to me said "some dude" came in yesterday and bought all 8 60GB units. Fuck me. I'm always a day behind. Sheesh.

I did find one about 50 miles away, so I think that's my sign. Called about 15 stores. Seems like they have plenty of 80gbs left around.

Gamefunk was a good deal at ~$400 shipped, but it's almost $450 shipped to me now.

Good on you to those who got in earlier.

I bet that guy is selling them on Ebay. On Amazon the lowest bid for used is $500! It's getting kind of crazy. We have people calling us asking to buy them by the dozen.

I'm sure he's fleabaying them. The new ones are going for ~$650.00 at least. Plus shipping. If I were getting a used one, Gamefunk is still the best choice on price and reliability/customer service. They are also the funkiest.

I decided I couldn't pass on this and I picked one of these up. I'd rather get it from gamefunk than ebay considering the good things I've heard about their customer service. Now I just got to work on my tradelist and ebaying to help pay for this.

Guess the whole Blu-ray thing upped the demand along with MGS4 coming out eventually. Glad I picked this up early while it was cheap and mine is still running like a champ. Already finished Uncharted, Assasins Creed & Heavenly Sword on it and playing MGS: Essentials & Ratchet/Clank currently.

In 3 months, this has gone up $56(since it was first mentioned in the OP, not since Mary from Gamefunk signed up here). It was a tolerable idea at $359, but I didn't have the cash then and almost every bunch of them since has brought about a price increase.

I'm kind of sad that I didn't pull the trigger @ the $359 price(but I was seriously strapped for cash then) or the one just after that, since $415 is just too close to the price of an 80 gb to be worth it for me.

actually if you go back to the first couple pages they were $350 + shipping, so thats a $65 increase, or about 19%. With shipping thats close to $450. Deal dead in my opinion but then i again i dont have a disposable income and dont share the same view as the l337 collectors of the 'zomg ultra rare i'll stuff it in my closet and be rich in 4 years' stuff like some others around. I see 450 refurb when they were retailing for $450-$500 six months ago. If you tinker with Amazons gold box you can get 10% off of an existing or one of the future PS3 bundles. If you were absolutly dead set at getting a 60gb then this is the channel i'd go through but trying to get a good unit for the lowest price possible? Not anymore.

no offense ment to the reseller, i know how retail works, sometimes the suppliers suck :D.

that is the cost of what they were going for at launch. i am not a ps3 afficianodo, but if the main feature of the 60 gig is that they play ps2 games, doesnt it just make sense to get a pstwo slim and put it on top of the ps3?

I wanted the 60 gig ps3 because of the BC and I have a ps2 already. The main reasons I want BC is so that I have two devices that will play ps2. If one fails, I have the other to fall back on. Neither of my ps1's is functional at the moment.
The other reason is so that I can put the ps2 away. I have a limited amount of outlets in my entertainment center and couldn't support having both out at the same time. I also figure I'm saving a little electricity by only having one of them out.

Sometimes people return stuff just because they realized they couldn't afford it, so it might be okay. We found that out when we started selling Wii's. We got a lot of consoles back that weren't defective.

If they have some sort of cheap extended warranty, definitely don't hesitate to get it.

Wow, The previous prices made me consider buying used, which i would rarely do for a disc based console, but i already own a ps2 and the potential risk/trouble that buying used has no longer outweighs the benefits (warranty, ect.) of buying a new 40gig.

I had been waiting till I had a summer job in early May to buy one of these, but now I probably won't.

Yeah i wasn't trying to direct any meanness, just expressing my disappointment that its no longer a great deal. Just a decent one, and by the looks of customer service, based on this thread, not a horrible idea if you have to have a 60GB.

That's the thing though, I don't HAVE to have a 60 GB. I would like the backwards compatibility, but its not absolutely required to me. I would like to play the MGS trilogy and God of War 1 & 2.

But even after my employee discount, you guys still save me ~$60, so who knows. It also depends on how much my paycheck is. Its just with the 40 GB it comes with Spiderman 3, and 80 GB comes with motorstorm. The main reason I want a PS3 is for the Blu Ray, but there is games I want too.

Plus the 60 GB in the store has a beat up box, so I'm sure it was used at least once. And at least with gamefunk, I know if there's a problem it will get fixed.

Yea I mean with people saying their PS3 comes with scuffs etc, and you get what? 30 day warrenty? That's way too much of a gamble on a now $400+ purchase. Just pick up a 40gb model from amazon for no shipping/tax costs at $399 flat, then do the same once PS2s drop in price or something as itll practically even out. Plus 40gb units would have the full warrenty, be new, and they're cooler/quieter then 60gb models

A little update (I was among first to jump on these):
1) My PS3 is still running great. I have not had any problems and still happy with the purchase.
2) This did qualify for the 5 free bluray offer! I received mine in the mail two days ago. (Now I need to find somewhere to trade American Psycho in for a real movie.)

Thanks a ton to Mary and Gamefunk! The deal isn't what it was originally, but I would say it's still worth it.

I believe so. The offer was only good for players purchased by the end of January somewhere and I think the form had to be mailed in within a month or so after that. It was a long wait for them to send the movies; I'd forgotten about them.

That's a joke, right?
It's not my type of movie - although I know some say it was great.

Hi Mary,

Unfortunately, there is a problem with the 60GB PS3 that I ordered from GameFunk.com.....the unit that I received was acutally a Japanese PS3!! :-(

The first indiation that something was off was when I took everything out of the box, I noticed that the plus definitely wasn't for US outlets - it looked more like something you'd plug a dryer into. However, I thought at first it was just a packaging error, until I inspected the unit further and noticed that the box and unit were both NTSC/J. You wouldn't have known it unless you looked for it - all of the instructions, etc. were in both English and Japanese.

Unfortunately, I can't get the unit to power on......

I've contacted GameFunk through the customer service website, but wanted to post this here as well hoping that you may be able to expedite getting a replacement 60GB :D I've heard good things about the GameFunk customer service through CAG, so I wanted to reach out to you as well.

Is there anything that I could send you to help expedite this? My order number, etc.? I ordered the unit less than 30 days ago, so I should still be covered under the 30-day warranty.

Thanks in advance!!

that isn't insanely high at all IMHO. They are selling for $5-600 easily used, if new I bet it could fetch $700. This is argued to be the best PS3 made to date so I still think the price is very reasonable it is just hard to justify because of what the starting price for these were...

If you are thinking about getting one, this could be one of your last chances. They seem to be getting more scarce and scarce.

80gb bc not being *that bad* depends on which game you try. If you really like the game and it has bugs on 80gb, it *is* that bad. my fav ps2 games work great on my 60gb, and many of them have bugs on the 80gb, meaning i would never buy one.
