Like, something you can stick a paperclip into to open the drive when it won't open on its own. I've got The Orange box in there, and it won't come out.

My drive does this sometimes. Try pressing the eject button (so it's trying to come out) and then pushing the front of the drive in for a second.
My drive usually opens up after doing that.
Alternatively, press the eject button and then push it out to the side away from the center of the drive.
You can also try removing the cover.

Sorry, never mind. I had to hold down on the eject button and press it rapidly about a hundred times, but it came out.
Damn M$, sending me another borked console...

I'm not going to risk losing an expensive game just because the drive doesn't play nice.
Stupid M$, not swapping out disc drives on my old console and instead sending me another one with a manufacture date that's somehow older than my previous one. It's not like I had the ring of death.

I have no idea, but I wonder if the eject pin is accessible if you take off the 360's face plate? I've never done that, as I've heard it's easy to break it (I can't figure out how it even comes off).

Sounds like you are talking about the drive on the 360 console not the hd dvd drive? Take the faceplate cover off and depending on what type of drive you have you can manually eject the drive.
Here is link to tell you how to tell which drive.

Than this link explains how...

I would add that you need to turn off the power before removing the disc or at least go to the dashboard before trying this or it might get scratched/

Pull.
I've never heard of anybody breaking it.

Yeah, the faceplates are pretty sturdy, just stick a fingernail on the side and pry it out. My sync button broke off my stock white faceplate because it's held on by a wafer thin piece of plastic and got bent in my wire box - but that's more my own fault than anything.
