Xbox 360 Recovery / Join in Problems anyone?

Okay so about 2 days ago I was at my friends house and tried to recover my profile to play some RockBand and it said "Xbox live signup is currently unavailable please try again later." So I thought I don't really need that many achievements thats okay. Go home and try to sign in and it says "This account has not been fully recovered please recover it again" So I click recover profile. Sure after all of that it says again "Xbox live signup is currently unavailable. So I call tech support last night. They say to wait because Xbox is being repaired. So I wait and then while waiting I try some stuff. Well actually only one thing. I delete my profile ( but not items. ) This could possibly remove my gamerpoints and saved games but I don't care I just want to play COD4. So then I go to bed around 4am and wake up at 10. called tech support again and notice that it didn't say "Hey, if you are experiencing troubles signing in we are already aware of this problem please hang up as we fix it" on the recorder and my hopes go up. So i hang up try to recover and it fails. So I recall them and I talk to somone ( after dealing with the annoying robot Max to get to them ) and they say to go to my System dashboard. I go there click on memory I click it. I was thinking no i'm not formating my HDD. they say push Y i push it. Then they say as fast as you can push X,X,Lb,Rb,XX. Then it says maintenance update. It updates and She says re-recover it. I do and go the second loading bar for my account. And as it gets about 2/7 in i say thank you it looks like it's going well she gives me a number ( which i put into my home phone but after a few secounds *beep beep beep* erased ) and sure enough 20 secound after she hangs up "Xbox live signup is currently unavailable please try again later...... If anyone has had this problem and fixed it tell me what they said.

I went through an ordeal with M$ since I got my new 360. I tried to recover my old XBox gamertag, but after a marathon phone call with "Jim" from India, they said it was cancelled and couldn't be recovered. Okay, fine.

So I go to try and make a new gamertag. But I kept getting the "XBox LIVE is currently unavailable." This was Thursday. It wasn't until Friday night that I was finally able to create the new tag. I haven't used it since, but things seemed fine after that...

It's down again now, so probably better to hold off on trying.

Was back up from Midnight to 2 pm EST or so, from my experience and posts on the x-box forum.

This doesn't have anything to do with the problems they're having right now. This has been on-going. I had this happen to me about 3 weeks ago. I couldn't recover my own account back to my 360. I tried it about 50 times total, and it finally worked. The same thing has happened to people on the xbox.com forums as well. The threads there date back to October. Just keep recovering and it will eventually work. It's not something that's going to be 'fixed' and work perfectly thereafter.

Maybe there will be a rush of memory unit sales after this as move the account from your 360 to the MU and back works flawlessly.

i recovered my gamertag around 11 AM EST worked fine... now i try to recover my brothers and it dosent work.

Yea that's about how long it's been going on... it is a Live issue but they only acknowledged it a few days ago...
