My BB has never had any old school titles and I'm sure they don't have any now. I think this is a YMMV deal. My BB didn't have anything today when I went there. What did you pcik up exactly?

The only store that I know that has anything old is TRU (a couple of crappy DC games that are way overpriced, Perfect Dark 64 and some other N64 games that are still at normal price like THPS3, and some other random GBC stuff like Legend of River King.), my K-Mart still houses some old GBC stuff like the Legend of River King and some other stuff like all-in-one games and until recently when they clreaed them out, Perfect Dark 64 as well. My Walmart also has basically the same stuf stated as above, but these are expected of these sellers since they keep their stuff forever on their racks or don't know when a generatio has come to pass as in the case of Wal-Mart.

IIRC, I think it's a pilot program that certain Best Buys are trying out. There was a thread over in DVDTalk about it - I think they're buying used DVDs, CDs and games.

Wow, I hope all Best Buy's start doing it! It's a win/win situation for them... they get more games to sell for people AND they give people store credit through a gift card to buy MORE THINGS from them! This just works out for everybody! Especially CAGers with 2.99 games.

I know my BB doesn't do this, as I was just there a few days ago, and found nothing.

Ooooo, must check BB. I wonder what kind of trade in value you can get.

it seems like they sell games for 2.99 so they must rape you as bad as other stores. On the plus side you will get BB credit and you can spend that on alot more stuff then you could with EB or Gamestop credit. My Blockbuster started selling/trading used games this week also. It must also be a ploy to get people in the store. Now on the plus side is if they start offering deals like Gamerush has were they take any crap game and give you a certain amount off new game. Since Bestbuy is new to the trade game, I hope they are not wise on the crap used games that will never sell and that CAGs can get for cheap.

The ploy is that this is where the highest profit return for video game retailers is located. Gamestop gives you 25 cents for a game and turns around and sells it for 3 bucks. Best Buy and Media Play (supposedly no longer owned by best buy (I doubt this as they seem to mirror each others' policies)) are trying to snag a piece of gamestop/eb's profits.

Naturally it won't work for several reasons: 1. They offer less money for games (believe me). 2. They charge too much for old and common games (15 bucks for a 2002 xbox sports game?) 3. Their clientele isn't conducive to old system gaming (they cater to casual gamers). 4. They only accept the games and not the systems.

Of course their management doesn't realize this is a fairly timid market they are encroaching on. They can lose a lot of money in non-moveable stock (bad stock) and have to clearance it out below cost of aquisition. Besides the fact that best buy and media play don't check the games to make sure they work. This can mean a lot of returns and non functioning stock.

They were doing the trade in for gift cards program at the company headquarters for onsite employees. The display case promoting it had quite a few video games in it (including an old school gameboy). I remember wondering at the time (about a month ago) what they were doing with all this stuff, now that kind of answers it.

Holy crap. Jaguar, Saturn, and 32X games?

It sounds like they've got a good selection for consoles...but what about handhelds? Anything for the Game Boy? How about GBC or GBA games? Maybe even *gasp* Game Gear games?

If Best Buy starts selling used Game Gear games, they'll have a customer for life. I've got about three for the poor neglected handheld, and I'd love to get a few more, if only for my collection...

One more question: it's a long shot, but do the games come with any of the original packaging or manuals? The game being intact is the most important by far, but the paper elements would be nice too. :D

thegamer4787
08-06-2004, 05:10 PM
Sorry man, I only saw one 32x game, and the rest were N64, PS1, DC, Genesis, Super Nes, Nes, and some GC/PS2/XBOX games. I wish they had some sega cd games and even some gamegear stuff, but oh well maybe in the future. Oh, and some games are complete, mostly for the newer consoles, no N64 games were complete, I don't think any NES were but the vast majority of the genesis if not all were complete. I guess everyone was much more likely to hold onto the hard cases and not the cardboard N64/SNES cases.

Okay, well.. I don't go to that store by CC. I went there once.. it sucked pretty bad. Down here by DP (which is HORRIBLE if you're looking for old games.. they still want $30 for True Crime, but newer games are like $42), in the section with Wal-Mart, there's a store called GameTrader I think (it's in the same place with Smoothie Bear or so.. in a little shopping center).. they have reasonably priced older games. Not bad. Just carts, not usually box+instructions.

There's another store here in M'Boro that's selling things like a complete copy of Killer Instinct on SNES for 6 bucks.. and Mario Kart on SNES complete (and in mint condition as well) for 12..

When do the BBs start sending out the old games.?

When will BB start carrying new games longer than 2 months? It seems when any game is nearing a price drop, they all suddenly disappear from BB shelves. The most popular answer I get from them is "We only carry popular games people play". Yeah, and Big Muther Truckers is one of those titles.

Why does there have to be one in each "major area?" Admittedly, it would be a much better way to test the concept, but for all we know, the stores could all be in the Chicago area. We have no proof at all that the six stores are or aren't in the same area of the country.

The quickest and easiest way to find out where the stores are would be to call Best Buy Corporate. I'm not motivated enough to do that...

I would definitely say that the store on the corner of sawtelle and pico has great selection, but city of industry supposedly has better backstop of old games(and thus more likely to have clearanced price games in stock)

As for "which Los angeles store would make the best guinea pig store for this type of program?" I have no idea.

Hey Folks,

The Best Buy in Merrillville, IN does have the old school games!!! I just picked up Zombies Ate My Neighbors & Toxic Crusaders for the Genesis for $3.00 each. They had four bins at the ends of the PS2 & GC isles full of games, the were quite a few Genesis games, a couple of 32x games, lots of PSone, N64, & DC games, but no SNES. Most of the games were sports, but there were a few good titles...

I doubt any stores in the Nashville area are doing this. I don't want to make a 30 minute drive to check. It's a great idea, though. They'd be the only ones locally here to sell used SNES, NES, etc.. it'd be great.

If they had SegaCD games, I'd stock up.

You read my mind. "Popful Mail", "Lunar SSS" or "Lunar Eternal Blue" anyone?

Okay this is the list of BB stores that are supposed to do the Trade-ins, thus having old school games. Sorry non- chicago area people, all I got is Illinois info.
Merrillville, Bloomingdale, Countryside, North Avenue( 1000 W. North Ave.), Schaumburg, Joliet and Orland park. These stores take in old electronics, go DO NOT bring in games and expect a good price unless it's a old sports title.

WTF is up with that? Is there finally a place dumb enough to give you more than 10 cents for a Genesis sports title?

My Local BB told me they don't even carry games more than months old! They didn't even have Viewtiful Joe. They do have some old PS1 games but i think it is because they never sold because they are all crapy.

Ok folks, I got the dirt.

Aparantly all of these games are games from Best Buys trade in program, so new stock happens whenever someone trades there old systems & games.

The old school systems & accessories, however, are being cleaned and sold on Ebay, so don't expect to find any of those there...

Is there a full list anywhere (either compiled on the internet by forum-goers or by BestBuy corporate) that identifies all of the stores selling old games?

I'm going to the Annapolis (MD) Best Buy tomorrow for a TV. I'll check this out while I'm there.

Um, yeah.......

I just went to the Best Buy on North Ave and they were most certainly not selling any old/used games.

I scoured the entire store and there was no sign of 'em.

At least I got myself Madden & Gamecube coupon books and Invader Zim DVD2. :)
