God damn it. I didnt think to look at the date on the bag. I was in a rush and I didnt even want to go through the the trouble of showing the cashier and then he scans and still doesnt give me the additional 20%. I just let him scan my cds, for $12.50, walked around, got my gf ipod speakers and my parents computer speakers. Still have about $60 in credit left.

"Brown bag" deal ends on the 28th but a new one begins on March 1st through March 19th. It's a coupon that gives you 20% more on trade ins, like the current deal, but on the other side it's basically a 20% off used CDs, DVDs and games coupon. Save $5 when you spend $20, $10 w/$50 and $20 w/$100. The manager said both sides can be used at the same time.

Well I did this last year and had no problems whatsoever. I went in to FYE today with 5 things: 1 DVD, 2 CDs, a GC game, and a PS2 game to trade in, in the brown bag. The cashier (who was obnoxious by the way, I swear it's like a criteria to work there or something. No offense to anyone here who works there.) starts scanning them. Freaking three out of the five things I brought in she just basically throws them back at me and says "too scratched up" to each one. First off, not many of you even know me or have traded with me, but I keep my movies/music/games in excellent shape. I know for a fact they were all in mint shape, but I wasn't about to argue with these idiots if they can't even see that. So I got about 10 dollars for 1 CD and one DVD, which is ok, but wow, I have never been told that my stuff is too scatched up. Hell, anything I've boughten there used has had a fair amount of scratches on them. So anyway, I'm leaving the store, and two guys stop me and offer me $12 bucks for the two games, so I sold them. So basically I left with one CD I came in with, got home, took it out, and it's pretty much brand new. Now that I think about it, I listened to it one time and its been in the case ever since. I can honestly say, once my Backstage Pass (which I regret buying into more every day) expires, I'm through doing business with this company. Ridiculous.

I traded in a bunch of DVDs and some games I was never going to play and ended up with enough $$$ to get a 360. But I'm not 100% committed to that idea yet, since it also could buy me quite a few Wii games. Decisions, decisions.

My FYE ended this deal on the 6th of February. They were not evening giving out the bags they were just giving everyone who trades the extra. I have way too much credit there. My fye sucks and NEVER gets any good games in so I may have to use it on-line

If you want to trade for Blockbuster/Gamerush credit, i'd be more than willing. Also, you can special order anything that is in their touchscreen systems; all you gotta pay is a $2-$5 deposit which of course, comes off the final total.

You would think that a company that buys and sells used disc would have a disc resurfacing machine. It doesnt have to be at the store but can be at a warehouse where they can mail all the disc to, have it resurfaced and sent back to store. I can understand if its a major scratch that they wont take but if its hairline, take it and make money.

I dont even shop at FYE. Hell, I dont even step foot cuz their so expensive. This is the first time actually doing business or making a transaction with them. If it wasnt for the trade in and me having CD/movies to trade in, I wouldnt even step foot.

I still have about $67 left in credit that I need to use. Probably use it on a game. I want to get BR movies but they're too damn expensive at FYE

Just curious and a bump before the promo ends. Has anyone tried to trade in HD DVDs lately? Are they taking them? Second spin has some decent trade in pricing but don't want to drive out if they won't take these anymore.

Here's the list of HD-DVD's that Second Spin's site brought up with prices. Some may be off by a dollar or two(as is usually the case), but many should be spot on.

Link: http://www.secondspin.com/search.jsp?page=1&type=movies.title.sell&query=hd+dvd

Just in case any of you can snag a ton of HD-DVD's to trade in during the last day of the promotion.

Thanks for the confirmation. I did a scrub of the site and found about 2 dozen or so HD DVDs which coincided with the titles at my local Hollywood video going for about $8 ($12 after bonus, so I net $4/title in trade, not bad). Grabbed a bunch this morning and will be heading off to FYE at lunch.

Snake: The bag says 2/28. I had the same thing happen to me last week. CSR said it expired last Monday, took out the bag and she completed the transaction no problem.

I took some stuff in last night and was astounded to find out that the system did all the credit automatically. I'm used to the old system where the employee had to have completed some basic math classes and figure out the percentages themselves (This usually resulted in me not getting any of the 20% bump because they thought the computer did it itself). I'm glad this has changed.

so if this is the way it is, why are people having problems? Call corporate and complain about shitty customer service.

The $100 would have to be before the bump.

Bezerker, just remember to put the new deal details in the OP as well. Unless you want this closed and you want to make a new thread. Your choice. I kind of like having this continue, but it's your choice. You're always on top of the FYE stuff, and we appreciate all the info.

I can tell yall that most FYEs have coupons that do the same as the bags. The coupons are good throughout March. They should be stuffing bags with them, otherwise ask for one at checkout and you should get one.

I will stop by my FYE tomorrow after work to confirm the details. I sold the manager at my local FYE a Wii on Saturday, she knows I love the brown bag deals, but she never said anything to me. Hopefully this isn't a regional thing. This would be the perfect promotion to counteract that terrible "Buy any 3 used items for $20". Every FYE employee I know says nothing but terrible things about that deal (as the people who created the promotion neglected to point out that the items had to be $7.99 or under)

I'll update the op with general info until then. Thx for the heads up Brian.

I'll kick off the resurrection with the best flip I know of. Guitar Hero 2 (360) (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8247266&st=guitar+hero+II+360&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1168045345487) is $13-$27 at Best Buy. FYE pays $46.80 cash or $56.55 credit with the brown bag deal. You can still try to go in store even if the locator says there are none. Most clearanced items do not show in the store locator. If you ask an employee, they should be able to get on their inventory system and find out what stores have it, and how much its clearanced for.

Berserker..do you know if FYE is still running their B1G1 geneon deal? would you mind checking that while you're at your FYE please ;-D

The official end date was the first week of May, but some stores are still running it. YMMV as usual.

I plan on checking the entire Gamestop Gamedays list, but heres what I have so far:

Sega Superstars Tennis (360, PS3 & Wii): $15-$18 -> $24 cash or $29 credit

Mario & Sonic (DS): $13.50 -> $20.30 credit

Sadly not the best flips (nothing compares to the old Best Buy $2 -> $28 clearances, or NBA Starting Five's $2 -> $18), but its a decent way to get some bonus credit. FYE is also running a deal where if you buy a $25 gift card, you get a bonus $5, or if you buy a $50 card you get a bonus $10. Not sure about your store, but mine lets me use gift cards to buy gift cards, so depending on the patience of the employee, you can make $10 a minute for however long before the cashier wants to shoot you.

I'm working 8-7 today, so if anyone wants to check the other games in the Gamedeals thread and make a list, post it here and i'll update the OP with all the current deals.

They've never taken hardware of any kind at my local FYEs or any of the Transworld stores I've been in in the past couple of years. I imagine that if they did though, their values would be better than Gamestop, as long as people traded in decent condition stuff.

Thanks for the pics Brian. I'll update the op. I've been busy with work and catching up on my VG backlog, so I haven't had the chance to go to the mall.

Some Target (YMMV) -> FYE Deals (all store credit, subtract 25% for cash). 360 Prices are after the $10 off 360 game coupon, theres also a $5 off $25 purchase thats good on any purchase (also stacks with the $10 coupon)

Naruto (360): $5 -> $16.50
March Madness 08 (PS3): $12.50 ->$24.65
Open Season/Cars/Fusion Frenzy 3pack (360): $5 -> $17.40
Blacksite Area 51 (PS3): $15 -> $29

For anyone with a Microcenter near them:

Narnia: Prince Caspain (wii): $10 -> $31.54

I really wish there was a Microcenter here.

So I read the first 9 pages and didn't really see an answer, so I'm hoping someone can help iron this one out. I realize it seems to be YMMV, but anyone have personal experience with trying to trade in multiples of the same dvd/movie that they want to share?

Unfortunately, if your FYE is anything like mine, they won't take stuff that's in the Blockbuster cases. I don't know WHY, but they just don't like the cases for some reason.

Oh and definitely, definitely, definitely check on condition, since the people @ FYE are nitpicky about even the tiniest scratches/smudges.

Your best bet to find good flipping material, irishsoccerbmw, is to go on wherehouse.com(which is another Transworld company site) and check values on some DVD's on there. That's how I found out the approximate values of some boxsets I just bought about 2-3 weeks ago.

Oh and Speedracer, I don't know if your FYE is as picky as mine, but they wouldn't let me do multiples of games or movies on the same day. But you CAN come back or go to a different FYE in the same day to flip more copies. I did this with some super cheap games I was getting from Gamestop a year or two ago and made over $150-170 in credit in no time flat, even without a bonus offer going on.

Really varies by the employee. I find that dressing nice helps. I get very different looks between when i'm wearing all black, my hair down, and a beanie on than when i'm in my work clothes (collared polo shirt & khakis) with my hair tied back. Though when i do dress nice, I get asked "do you work here" about 3 times in whatever store i'm at (even when im wearing nothing close to the employee uniform). Damn people think a guy with long hair cant dress nice?

If they ask why you have two of the same game, make an excuse. There are many things you can come up with.

Any chance that the trade-in values will drop when (and if) this sale goes nationwide? I checked a bunch of games out on secondspin.com and the values were decent, especially once you add in the extra percentage. As far as I know, the deal hasn't started at my local FYE yet.

So, you can get the bags now, fill 'em up and Sunday you can take them in for a total of 45% more credit towards your trades.

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up, since I know a few asked when this starts.

cool ... thanks Ill go this sunday or monday again to see wassup...

I checked again today, still no brown bags. Hopefully they'll get them sometime before July 19th.

As for the 40% off coupon, I think the easiest way to get them to accept the coupon will be for me to scan the entire flyer that it came on and post that. Its a plain 8.5x11 piece of paper, thats not even in color, so it is a photocopy. Give me an hour or two as i'm currently glued to MGS4.

I traded in a bunch of dvd sets yesterday(Seasons 2-5 of 24) and received $66 total.

I don't recall which seasons got which amount, but 2 of them traded in for $21 each after bonus, one traded in for $14-15 after bonus and the last one traded in for $9 after bonus.

Not bad for dvd sets I paid $26 for total in NY about a month ago.

Yes, I've used the card at both the FYE and Wherehouse online sites. It will also ask you for the code on the back (scratch off). It's a bit convoluted on where to put the card info as I recall. I think it's before the payment page. Just keep an eye out for it because it's not really where you'd expect it.

do they only take next-gen games?

IAmTheCheapestGamer
06-16-2008, 06:09 PM
Actually, gotrice, they take PS2, Gamecube and Xbox games as well or at least the ones by me do. Although, the last gen ones may not be worth much. You can check values before going to trade them in at Secondspin.com or Wherehouse.com with their value finder on the top of the page.

But definitely CALL them before just taking in some last gen stuff, since they may be eliminating their older stuff already.

Neither of the FYEs in my local mall (Fair Oaks in Fairfax, VA) would accept Xbox, PS2, or GCN games for credit. YMMV if you have last gen games, I guess.

IAmTheCheapestGamer
06-17-2008, 01:07 AM
That's because the games probably aren't worth that much in their system and they probably have an assload of them. If you need to check values I can't stress this enough, type in the name of your game(s) on either Secondspin.com or wherehouse.com and if NO LISTING for them comes up, then they're probably going to be rejected since they're too old and get a buck or so in trade value.

Not necessarily, when I went to both stores, when they saw the Xbox, PS2, and GCN cases, they didn't even bother scanning them, they told me off the bat that they no longer accept previous gen games for credit. I have some fairly recent previous gen games, it's a shame that they're now essentially worthless.

There's always Gamestop or you could Craigslist them or of course you could put them up for trade/sale on here.

What games are we talking about, since I know the original Xbox hasn't had a new title for it in about a year, if not longer.

Got some credit, though now I can't find a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4, my local store is out of stock and don't know when they are getting more in, not that I think they are that informed about what coming into the store, and fye.com is sold out. Might have to break down and get it somewhere else and just use the credit to buy more anime I'll never get around to watching.

It should have started up already in most districts, though the good thing is that this deal is going on until July 19th, so even if your stores haven't started it yet, you still have a good amount of time to get in on it.

It could just be that your stores have the bags in the back or under the counter and they're simply waiting for someone to ask for one. That's how I got in on the deal the first time they ran it, I just asked them what the hell that brown paper bag was for and they gave me one.

Unlike past times with Wherehouse, the extra credit is given on the receipt, so I wouldn't even think the store would have to have the brown bags. I think it just happens.

I traded in some South Park DVDs that I won't ever watch again and netted $126. Picked up Superbad BluRay as it is only $12.99 used and will burn the rest online I'm sure.

See, that's what I noticed too, was that the system AUTOMATICALLY added the extra 20% this time, though the clerk MAY have entered in the code to start the process so I don't know 100% if that's true or not.

im sure this has been asked before but do they take dvds that are used from blockbuster?
meaning will they take the dvd if the case is like the rental case that BB uses or do i need to get some regular dvd cases?

any help would be much appreciated.

That HAS been covered before actually, but it may be a YMMV situation like always. I know my local FYE store(s) didn't want to take the Blockbuster movies in the Blockbuster cases, but if I brought them in with some normal dvd case they would.

As always though, it's YMMV(your mileage may vary). Oh and even though FYE wouldn't take in the BBV movies from me, Suncoast(also part of the same chain) would.

i traded in some blockbuster movies and had to swap out the cases. i knew i had to do that from the last time this promo ran, so as i did my rounds flipping i would ask gamecrazy or gamestop for extra dvd cases.

also, the bonus was not automatic for me. it took the cashier almost 20 minutes to figure it out and i ended up getting a 50% bump somehow.

Not a video game, but Best Buy has Seasons 1-6 of 24 for $27 total. I haven't calculated everything, but you should be able to get at least $60 after 45% bonus.

most of the stores now have a paper up on the doors saying it wont be honored and it explains why they have removed the stickers with the coupon from the Season 1 Special Editions.

Side note, I traded in 96 dvd's and 1 360 game (Army of Two) and got $523 and some change. Got a PS3 and 4 used games for only 48.52 out of pocket.

I honestly, don't remember them. I threw away my credit slips after I used all of the credit left on the cards (had to make 2 trips and they said they couldn't put it on the same card). I was looking through my 360 collection and apparently got rid of Jericho too. Don't remember it but I do remember Army of Two getting me $36 in trade with this deal. I also remember they were surprised that a good portion of mine were hitting the 3 dollar mark without the bonuses. Granted, I was a little irritated after I was told about the backstage pass would have given an extra 10% on top of that. I don't have one, but I could have purchased one for 25 and made and extra 50 on the credit.

When I read that I would get an extra 25% over the cash price if I got store credit and then with the bag get another 20%, I assumed that it would stack like the edge card and coupons for GameStop. So when I was doing my math, it was way lower than what I got because I didn't realize they did the 25% and then 20% of that new number. It was really odd, but I'm not complaining. I've never taken part in this deal before so I wasn't sure what to expect. The local Coconuts does take older games, so I'm going to go through and see which ones are worth much.

oh wait...so it's not 45% bonus credit? it's 25% bonus credit, then 20% bonus credit on new number?

wait...wouldn't that mean you get MORE credit?

26.50 game * 1.25 = 33.13

33.13 * 1.20 = 39.75
~~~
26.50 game * 1.45 = 38.43
NICE...might have to trade some ish in then!
Yeah, I assumed it was 45% total, but when I was doing the math for Army of Two (360), their base was $24. If it was just a straight 45%, that new total would be $34.80. My trade-in credit was $36, and the only way to get to that number would be to do the 25% on the base, and then the 20% on the new number. I could be wrong, but that's the ONLY way I could get to that number.
Same went with the Jurassic Park Adventure Pack. I thought I would only get $8.70, but I ended up getting a straight $9. Granted that isn't a huge difference, but over the course of 100 items or so, it adds up.
I still have Persona 3 (sealed with artbook. etc.)
I never got the chance to play it, and then I bought FES.
Secondspin is showing persona 3 at $9.00
Is it worth it just to unseal it, keep the extras and trade the disc and box?
Will they take it without the artbook?
bob330i
That's exactly how it works. The base number is the cash trade in price. You get another 25% if you take credit, then the promo adds another 20% on top of the credit trade in value. So if you really do the math, you get an additional 50% of the cash trade in value if you take credit and apply the 20% promo.
kinda off topic, but I dont wanna make a thread just for this question:
but i bought Unreal tournament III (360) today and there was a mail in rebate attached to my receipt. I can get $10 back. On the receipt it says to mail the original UPC in order to get money back (no photocopies etc.). The price sticker that FYE puts on it games has a UPC (matches the one on the game box) as well. Can i just mail that in instead? Or do i HAVE to cut out the one from the box art?
I haven't done an FYE rebate in a looong time so YMMV. In the past, I was able to just pull that sticker off and send it in with the form and receipt and they'd honor it. I'm pretty sure others have done it recently but you may want to check other forums (inside and outside of CAG) to get some sort of consensus on what's ok now.
