If your ever in NJ let me know. I'd love to take you out on a Saturday morning and nullify your skepticism, teach you some tricks and help to cheaply build your game collection.

I bow down to you and Moeity/Evilmax...

It is a small chain with 6 locations in AZ. Here is their website: http://www.bookmans.com/

I believe they have two types of credit A and B. They give you playing cards to turn in for credit. The system sounds similar to the one you described. Now they have only A credit, so you can trade in books to get videogames. ^_^

Went to a moving sell and saw a box of gamecube stuff marked for $200. Picked out four games and asked for a price. Asking price was $10 a game, CIFed $20 for the four games. Found out today I ended up with 2 free games in the Wind Waker case.

Resident Evil (complete)
LoZ: Wind Waker (complete)
LoZ: Collectors (complete)
LoZ: Master Quest (complete)
LoZ: Twilight Princess (CD)
LoZ: Four Swords (CD)

Looking back I should of picked up a controller too since they had more then 6 in the box, but I saw the games and just got out quick.

I've found one of the best deals at yard sales is CD's. With people switching over to digital music, lots of people are getting rid of their old CD's. You can buy a lot of CD's for $0.25-$0.50 a piece and swap them out at FYE/Suncoast and build up some massive credit that way. During the last Geneon B1G1 deal I was able to get a Samurai Champloo boxset and Paranoia Agent boxset + about $50 extra credit for $20 worth of CD's I purchased at a yard sale.

Well yesterday on the way to work I hit a random yard sale and scored for the first time on videogames:

Stopped and saw some old sports titles and crusty controllers for Xbox and asked if they had any other videogame stuff.. So the lady went in to ask her son and he came out with some PS2 games...

Onimusha
Onimusha 2
Onimusha 3
Chaos Legion
Project Snowblind

"All have a little bit of scratches but nothing major and all are otherwise complete with case, insert, and manual.

$10 for all :bouncy:

I would say both seeing some people will not pay for an ad so they go craigslist and of course people who will go for local paper.

Some people do not post anywhere and thats when you follow those random rummage signs..

Just look for dates on the signs as alot of people never take them down and you might be following a month old sign

Well the city I live around seems to enforce the "no hanging signs on anything" policy so the police will actually drive over and bring the sign they find and tell you to take down the rest because your supposed to advertise it in the paper, etc. Im not sure if it is actually a law here or bored police. But it has happened to my parents and a neighbor last summer when they had thier usual rummage.

Does that work well at thrift stores too? I've never really looked at the selection of CDs at them. I'm interesting in getting credit at FYE. :D

So let me get this straight. You pilfered your Grandmother's book shelve, which definitely has sentimental value with apparently no second thought.

Bravo young man. Bravo.

So let me get this straight. This is the liar calling out the thief. I didn't take her books. I helped her move them all because she was putting in new carpet. My dad was trying to convince her to get rid of all her stuff for a long time, because she hoards stuff. She finally decided to get rid some of her over 1000 books, and gave me and my cousin about 5 boxes.

Wow. That sucks. Some of my best finds are unlisted sales. And even listed ones, I love having good signs to lead the way even with a gps just because some of them are in tangled confusing neighborhoods. Following the signs are one of my favorite parts of yard sales.
Once, last year, We saw signs on a major road and decided to follow it. Everytime we were about to give up, there was another sign. This literally went on for about 8 minutes and 6-7 miles. Finally, my friend, the driver, infuriated, says if the next sign doesn't say anything different (keep going straight it always instructed) he was turning around. We drive for another minute before finally seeing the sign, telling us to turn left into a small neighborhood. We find two old ladies at the sale selling some old lady jewelry and clothing. I laughed the 12 minute ride back. Ahh. great times.

Update: Recap: After going to the best yardsale of my life this past saturday, I arrived home and realized the guitar hero controller was missing its receiver and didn't work. I took it back and asked if they could find the receiver. The dad wasn't there, but his wife got it and gave it to me. On my way leaving, I asked if she had any ps2 games to sell, and she said to hold on. I gave her my # and she asked if I had a ps2. I said I broke it modding it so she gave me one in pristine condition minus wires. It works great.

Update: So far, I haven't been able to return the receiver, because the one she gave me is for a logitech wireless ps2 controller! Doesn't really matter cause I bought two controllers over the weekend anyway with gh2+3.

I took pics of the comics just to give you some scale of the enormity of it. 15 boxes chock full of comics, sorted by issue # and title. The boxes are even sorted alphabetically, with avengers beginning and so on. All are major names published by either DC or Marvel.

If anyone's interested in trading or buying any, I will be fine with it after I read them. :)

Nice haul! 15 longboxes. Even if they are 'crap books' (I am not saying they are), you can easily sell them for profit at that price. There are probably a few gems in there too!

That's the best part. None of them are crap boxes. I've been collecting for 12 years and I knew literally all the comic titles in there!

Sounds like my town

1) Your only allowed to have 2 yardsales a year and you have to get a permit to have one

2) Your only allowed to have signs up for your yardsale on your property

Derrick1979 I'm guessing it's a law as I'm pretty sure that you can get fined for it around here but I'd imagine that the first time you'd most likely get a warning.

Looking in the paper I haven't seen a lot of sales in my town. I just checked and out of 52 listed today only 1 or 2 of them are actually in my town the rest in surrounding areas. I'm starting to think that since it's been like this for a year or two now that some people will decided on not having a yardsale around here with all of the strict rules.

i do a combination of a local radio website that lists yard sales/ the paper/ and driving around for signs..

even at best though.. in the summer there are generally only around 8-12 sales going on any given week. so usually i average 1 maybe 2 V-game related items a day.. but others its like when it rains it pours.

this will be the first actual week I can go out yard saling (being so busy the last few weeks i finally have time to go)

i couldn't find the direct quote relating to music cds but here it goes..

those things IMO would be incredibly hard to flip at an FYE or music store.. unless you get like say 200 for 5 bucks or something.. unless you have some that people actually want.. (and like everyone else is switching over to digital distribution..the price of used CDs goes down and the price they take goes way down).. i mean most people selling these at yard sales probably just have stupid crap nobody wants in the first place (country, boy band pop) so IMO it probably isn't worth your time.

Vinyls on the other hand.. are easier to find, and if you have popular artists you can get better prices off of ebay..

Hopefully, the long promised CAG 2.0 blog feature will allow me to not bother those who don't like stories with their postings. Skip to the end of the post for a picture link if you don't like backstory.

Was walking through my neighborhood yesterday afternoon and noticed what might have been either preparation for a yard sale or garage clean out. I walked up to the owner and asked if he was having a yard sale and he said yeah. I noticed that he had an empty XBox 360 box out front so I figured that there was a gamer in the house. Good sight.

I asked him if he had any video games or systems he was going to sell. He told me that he had some Playstation games, but would have to pull them out of the closet and he couldn't do it until today sometime. Knowing that I would be at work, I knew that if he had anything good it would be gone by the time I got back from work today. He seemed wise to this and told me that he would hold everything for me until this afternoon. He said if I didn't want them, he knew that they would sell Friday or Saturday.

Pulled into the driveway this afternoon and his daughter immediately pulled out a box full of PS1 games. I asked her how much was her dad asking for them and she said $60. I didn't have that much so I offered $45 (sorry Snotknocker, couldn't offer $2, don't have big enough balls).

Now I am no expert at old PS1 games, but I think I did pretty good. Here is what I picked up:

RPG Maker (Big Previously Played Blockbuster case)
Apocalypse (Blockbuster)
Dino Crisis (Blockbuster)
Danger Girl (Blockbuster)
CTR Crash Team Racing (Blockbuster)
Gex (Full Size PS Case)
The Lost World Jurassic Park

Asteroids
The Mummy
The Simpsons Wrestling
Monsters, Inc. Scream Team
Looney Tunes Sheep Raider
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver

Good luck this weekend everyone. No garage sales for me this weekend, running/walking a half marathon.

^ Not bad, nothing rare, but worth it. I would have tried to get afew of them for $2 a piece instead of byign the whole lot for $45, but that's because I have multiple copys of some of them. I looked at soem sales today and found nothing, bu ti have about $200 in my pocket for the city-wide sales tomorrow!!

I went to maybe 20 sales this morning. The first five or so had nothing. Then I started having better luck. Here's what I got:

Purple Game Boy Color with Batman Beyond - $1.50
Lego Star Wars for GC(Complete) - $5
Suikoden III for PS2(Complete) - $5
Skullmonkeys for PS1(Complete) - $3

My biggest find was a SNES with 2 controllers and 10 games. Among them were Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country and Battletoads in Battlemaniacs.

I paid $20 for this, which was a little high for me. But everything is in excellent condition and I mainly bought it for Yoshi's Island and the controllers. After I sell the system and the other games, I figure I'll come out a bit ahead. Skullmonkeys should also make a profit.

Unfortunatly the sales this weekend were not as stellar as my last couple outings but did manage to score some decent items...

While visiting my normal pawn shops, I noticed that some new DVD box sets had arrived. I was even more suprised when one of them happened to be the Naruto Uncut Box Set Volume 4. This was a plesant surprise as I really like the show. I walked in and noticed it was marked $12 with all the disks. However there was also a sign that said all collections were $8. I ended giving $8 for it and it is well worth it.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2443212092/

While at this sale I noticed that there were no games, so I did what any respectable gamer would... Ask. After thinking for a second, the man at the sale said he had some Game Boy games he didn't want anymore. He went into the house and dug around for a couple minutes and then came back with a stack of games.

Pac-Man Collection (GBA Complete)
Konami Collector Series Arcade Advanced (GBA Complete)
Baseball Advance (GBA cart only)
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits (GBA cart only)
Super Mario Advance (GBA cart only)
Super Mario Land (GB cart only)
Super Mario Land 2 (GB cart only)
Street Fighter 2 (GB cart only)
The Flintstones: Burgertime in Bedrock (GBC cart only)
Namco Museum (GBA Manual only)

After looking at the selections, I was going to cherry-pick a couple out but then asked what he would take for the set but he didn't know. I offered $10 and the he hastily accepted. Not a bad deal for these after all but I possibly could have got them for less...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2443211938/

This was a sale that had a whole bunch of nothing unfortunately. I was just fortunate enough to find the following books in hardback format:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

I ended up paying a whopping $0.75 for all these which was a plesent deal.

Well, thanks to having to rely entirely on my parents to drive, I was able to hit a whopping 2 yard sales. Hah. My main issue was not having ANY singles, so I couldn't CIF. :/

But I did get some decent finds.

First sale I went to had a crap load of Star Wars/Trek items, but I had no clue what they were worth so I had to pass. :/ But I did snag this Zapper NES game for $0.75.

Pics:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j234/Nintendofankid/collection004.jpg

Next sale I went to was a multi-family one. I saw a Dreamcast sitting there and bolted over. She wanted $30, I offered $15, and she countered $20 and I bit. It came with 3 controllers and 13 games that were in nice condition and complete (except for that baseball game). Not an amazing deal for $20, but I should be able to double that (not to mention I actually did want to try out a Dreamcast).

I just dropped $142.50 at sales today, i will post pics and titles in a bit. the reason i spent so much was because one GS was run by a collector and i spent $112 there.

Went out for the first time this year. There weren't as many GS as I had hoped, but still some interspersed. Here's my take for the day:

First sale was pretty much cleaned out. They had an old discolored NES missing its door on the table. I picked it up and they told me to just take it! Unfortunately someone already grabbed all the games. Even still, free NES.

Second had a Dreamcast. I asked how much (still working on the CIF part) and he said $5. I countered with $2, and we met at $3. No games or controllers but still not bad IMO.

Non game related, I got a golf bag cart and a shiatsu massager. That was kinda funny, cuz I offered $5 for both (massager had $4, golf cart $3) and the older guy had to check with his wife on it. She would NOT NOT NOT come down on the massager at all. They bickered for a few minutes while I just sat there. Finally he said "go ahead $5 is good" to which I thought she was gonna freak out! "I'm NOT taking less than $4!!!" "I know, I'll just take $1 for my cart" So, got both for $5. Cart's in decent shape, I actually got it for my friend since I already have one.

I just dropped $142.50 at sales today, i will post pics and titles in a bit. the reason i spent so much was because one GS was run by a collector and i spent $112 there.

My digital camera's batteries are out so i will ahve to post pics later.

The first few sales i went to had no games or games that were priced way to high, and no one would respond to a CIF.

I went to afew sales where someone was buying all the games there as i got there. at oen sale a guy was purchasing CIB copys of Castlevania 4, Mortal Kombat 3, and 3 other SNES games that i didnt see the title's on, I asked if there were anymore and he said no, but the lady running the sale is from my church and said that she had alot more inside that she will talk to me about later!! :)

I spent $36.50 at the majority of the sales

$1.00 2 wireless PS2 controllers( .50 apiece)
$2.00 (Gamecube)Frogger Beyond
$2.00 SNES with Yoshi's Island
$5.00 (Gamecube)LOTZ: Twilight Princess(at a stop at the pawnshop)

$2.00 (DVD) Ernest in the Army
$2.00 (PS2) Herdy Gerdy
$2.00 (PS2) The Hobbit
$2.00 (PS2) The Lord of the Rings ~ FOTR~

The sale where i hit the mother lode but spent aton of money was crazy, I pulled up and hollered otu my car window "do you have any videogames?" the lady said yes so I went up and looked, they had a ton of games all marked at or above market price!! I CIF'd $100 for all of them, but the guy said no, I dug around in my wallet and offered $120, the guy siad no, so i dug through the games and pulled otu all the N64 games because they were all over priced and again CIF'd $100 the guy said $120 and i said no, he then made a offer of $110 and i bit. we threw everrythign into abox but he moved some stuff ad said it wasnt included. So i mised out on a lot of controllers and hardware, I also got some old comics from him for $2.00.

Great day for YS'ing. There were about a dozen sales in my hometown and a town 20 minutes west of me was having its city wide yard sale.

Went to the first sale advertising games and picked up 2 Bond games and a boxing game for the N64 for $2.

After a few misses I went to a sale where there were no games out. After asking the guy running the sale if he had any games, his little girl shouted that they had games inside. After going inside, I saw three boxes full of systems games and accessories. After seeing Breath of Fire II in one of the boxes, I asked the guy running the sale to shoot me an offer. He offered $50, and I countered with $40 which he accepted. As I left, another guy at the sale told me to come back in 1/2 an hour, and he would have another box of games. I asked him to hold it for me and I would be back around noon. All told I got:

- 1 SNES System w/ Hookups
- 21 SNES Games, iincluding BOF II, Mega Man X, Super Punch- Out, Nobunaga's Ambition, & Brain Lord
- 10 NES games
- 3 PSX systems w/ Hookups
- 8 PSX games mostly sports & generic stuff
- 2 Sega Genesis systems w/ Hookups
- 14 Genesis games all sports & Sonic

At another sale in my hometown I picked up a box of 100+ CD's for $50. They were mostly alternative and all in good shape. It had several good bands such as Tool, U2, DMB, & Nirvana, After a quick search on the SecondSpin website, it looks like I should be able to get $200-$250 cash for the box, or maybe a little more in FYE credit if I haul them to a store.

Unfortunately, I was skunked at the City Wide yard sale in the next town. I hit over 20 sales without any luck. It was a 2 day sale, and I ran into the familiar, "I sold some games yesterday line" several times. After coming home I stopped at the sale where I picked up the boxes of games, and bought the other box they mentioned earlier for $4. That box had:

- 10 NES & SNES games including Mario All-Stars, DKC 2, & Mario Paint w/ Mouse
- Several SNES & NES controllers including an NES Advantage

I didn't do very well yesterday. I went to a neighborhood that connects to mine, but they didn't have anything. I next went to my grandfather's neighborhood. I don't usually have much luck there and I didn't this time either. I should have went there first. Several sales were picked them clean of games early on. I did get from one sale:

Super Mario All Stars
Super Mario Kart
F-Zero
Donkey Kong Country

Those cost me $4. They had a bunch of other snes games, but some of them were scratched up pretty bad. I'll probably keep F-Zero since it's the only one of those I don't have already, but the rest I'll sell on ebay for at least $10 each. I've almost paid off my ps3.

At another sale, I picked up two books and two guides for $1. I got the Chronicles of Riddick and the Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 guides.

The next neighborhood I only manged to find the movie History of the World Part one on DVD for $1. Several of the houses there said they had lots of games and had been picked clean early on.

I think I'll try hitting some of the smaller, older neighborhoods next week.

I found Zone Of The Enders: 2nd Runner complete and mint for $4. So worth my morning.

I also got:

PS3 60 GB
Dualshock 3 x2
SixAxis x2
Call of Duty 4
Assassin's Creed
Rock Band
Grant Turismo 5 Prologue

All for $250. He was asking $400 but I CIF'd a bunch of bills totaling $250. Once he took it I got the hell out of there. I pretended that the whole wad was worth $350.

Now I'm deciding whether I should keep this stuff or sell them on eBay.

This week I hit up a few sales on my bike. Not a bad day.
Could anyone tell me if any of these are worth anything before I dump most of them at play and trade? Most likely they're not. >.> ^_^

First sale:
I asked if they had any video games and they were like no, but we got some other electronics.
All they had was an old cracked computer monitor that was priced at $15. lol

Sale 2: I went to the gated community next to my neighborhood and this lady had:
(DVD)Transformers The Movie: Special Collector's Edition (complete, old school cartoon transformers)
(PS1)Driver 2 (Disc only, later realized it has 2 discs lol)
I CIF'd $1 and she took it.

Sale 3:
I went to this crappy trailer park because there was a sign, and had to bike literally 15 minutes uphill to find the stupid sale, but it was worth it.
It was a fundraiser sale for a little league baseball team, so I didn't bargain with them, and the price was already good. I got for $5 total:
(game gear)Deep Duck Trouble
(game gear)Alladin
(game gear)Poker Face Paul's Gin
(game gear)Poker Face Paul's Blackjack
(game gear)Taz-Mania
(game gear)The Little Mermaid
(game gear)The Lion King
(game gear)Desert SpeedTrap
(game gear)Tom And Jerry: The Movie
(game gear)Taz: Escape From Mars
(SNES)Mario Paint (No mouse. >.>)
(N64)NFL Quarterback Club 98
(N64)Madden Football 64
(N64)Madden 99
(PS1)A/V cable
(PS1)outlet cable
(PS1)R/F adaptor (sealed)
Plug 'n Play EA Sports

Sale 4:
I asked if they had any video games, and the lady said all they had was some duck hunt game, and I could have it for free. So I got for free:
(NES)Duck Hunt

Sale 5:
Large community yard sale, and it had already been cleaned out, so I got for $1:
(XBOX)Project Gotham Racing 2

Then I went to the pawn shop and got for $10:
(GC)Pikmin (Complete non PC)

I pretended that the whole wad was worth $350.

So, you basically ripped him off. Wonderful. :applause:

I spent about $100 today; got 27 DVDs, two Blu-Rays, Season 2 of Dead Like Me, three Game & Watches, and a handful of games. It was a community yard sale so I was on foot, and ended up oversleeping and apparently missing a lot of gaming scores. The tons of great films I picked up were worth it, though -- I even got the Criterion edition of Yojimbo.

Details and pictures coming after work.

To find good hauls you just have to go as early as possible, and go to every sale possible, from what i have seen good hauls come from places that look like dumps, people that spend way to much on entertainment then have to sell it to get cash!!

Boxed NES Action set (2nd in as many weeks) in excellent condition w/ 23 games contras, mario's & MAGIC DARTS! Was needing the Magic Darts for my collection
TOTAL: $10
Asked for games at this sale and the lady went to her attic for about 15 minutes and came down with this. I really wanted the Magic Darts and CIF'd $10. She came back with I was thinking forty, but she kinda looked like she had no idea of any kind of going rate for games. I told her that was way to much for me and proceeded to tell her that I'm a collector and usually pay .25 to .50 a game and that the consoles usually need to be rebuilt cause of the games blinking or not working at all. I told her if she took the $10 she would'nt have to carry it back to the attic. She thought for a moment then took the cash - then told me that the games blink but I kinda figured that already.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3146/1001518rx9.jpg

PSP - no battery but had the power supply and powers up fine but I don't have any games to test .
Game gear - scratchy sound - speakers going (very common problem with these)
Original Gameboy
17 NES games -marios + tetris
3 GG games and GB -Tetris
several controllers and adapters
Total: $7
Perfect example of why you should'nt pass up any yardsale and ask for games. I pulled up to this sale and middle aged lady and 2 young girls were selling xmas stuff , crafts, glasses etc. I asked for games and the lady said she had a bag of stuff but had no idea what it was. She brought it down and proceeded to empty the bag, I jumped in and said no need, I eyed the Mario's and a cool PS2 Mortal combat controller and tried to CIF $3 which she countered with $10. I tried again and CIF'd $5 which I could see she was thinking about but she came back with I think $10 is a good deal. I decided to look deeper in the bag and saw the GB and GG games then immediately CIF'd $7 and asked if she could please do $7 which she accepted.
Much to my surprise when I got home and emptied the bag - wa-la PSP. Just hoping it plays OK

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/6640/1001517yz8.jpg

I was pretty much shocked to find this laying out in plain sight at this YS cause it was like 11:15. Figuring it was seriously overpriced that's why it was still there I asked how much and the guy came back with I just want to get rid of it "how about $15" I CIF'd $10 saying "how about $10" He took it. I was kinda happy with this find cause I've been wanting to play Mario BB and Arcade treasuires 2.

Custom Firmware. It allows you to download games onto your memory stick and play them from there.

It cuts down on load times and battery consumption. It's obviously illegal though.

$2.00 (DVD) Ernest in the Army
$2.00 (PS2) Herdy Gerdy
$2.00 (PS2) The Hobbit

And it's not a matter of charisma all the time. If I met the most charming person in the world, and they CIF'd $2 for something obviously worth $100 I would not bite. Also finding the stuff he finds in the first place. Accidentally getting a PSP? Are you kidding me?

An FC Twin for $3?
A jungle green N64 for $2?
Giant bundles of Genesis, NES, SNES, GameCube, and other lots for under $10 each?

And then consistently pulling this stuff off week after and week and calling it "decent"?

Seems a little bit unbelievable.

sorry, but those are common prices in a lot of areas, including here in Southern CA. i find stuff like that all the time. i have no reason not to believe him.

if you want to find good stuff, you have to try at every opportunity. the problem i see in this thread is that people often go hit 5-10 yard sales, see no games (or overpriced games) and give up. that's not how it works. if you want bargains -- real, true mind-blowing bargains -- you have to ask anyone and everyone, get up early, try multiple tactics and be consistent. getting disgustingly good prices on video game stuff isn't impossible but it is absolutely hard work. most people just don't find it worth their time.

if i get lazy and hit 2-10 sales on a given Saturday, i miiiight luck out and find something cool. but really, i only find gold when i hit 40 or more sales, and stop and ask everyone, even at the billion-year-old lady's house.

it definitely happens. and when people like you don't believe it, it makes it even more enjoyable. ;) (no offense, only teasing!)

i'll post my crap tonite...

You'd be surprised by how many people will buy expensive games/systems, forget about them for years, then try to get rid of them just because (regardless of how much money they lose).

An FC Twin for $3?
A jungle green N64 for $2?
Giant bundles of Genesis, NES, SNES, GameCube, and other lots for under $10 each?
Seems a little bit unbelievable.

Those are ok prices, I find stuff like that around here all the time, not wuite tha tgood of prices because people know what stuff is worth due to the fact that there are about 5 classic game stores inabout a 20 mile radius. but due to that there is an over abundance of classic games.

Seems a little bit unbelievable.

Luckily I live in one of the most densely populated areas of the country. On any given Saturday during YS season I can hit up 40 plus sales. The numbers are in my favor. You can doubt me all you want but the reality of it is, I've been doing this regularly for a few years now, It's a profitable little hobby for me. I have a system and a god given talent when it comes to talking to people and making deals which I use every chance I get. I consider myself a yardsale proffessional.

I post here to help other CAG's to learn some of my tricks and hopefully build up there collections and turn some stuff to make a little profit. If you look through the history of these threads you'll see I'm not the only one to score great deals. There's a lot of people giving lots of input and lots of other people learning and applying what they learn to make their own DECENT deals. Knowledge speaks but wisdom listens. So to the wise, not so fortunate yardsalers take in all you can from mine and the posts of others and you'll eventually have deals to speak about

If you're ever in NJ I'd gladly take you with me for the day and show you how it's done

Nothing super astounding this week. Went to a neighborhood sale in a suburb I hadn't been to before, and probably won't go back again. From 27 houses, found some overpriced Xbox games and a couple NES things. So, 30 minutes of driving for:

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4016/dsc04571rm1.jpg

- NES Game Genie
- Soap dispenser robot
Total: $1.25

On the upside, my girlfriend got a Kodak Easyshare C340 for $20, so that was pretty nice. And that soap robot is totally awesome.

Wasn't going to go out again today, but last night my trusty Xbox Media Center kicked the bucket. Thankfully, there was a decent replacement on craigslist, just waiting for me to pick it up. And while I was out, I hit a few sales.

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/7310/dsc04573sj0.jpg

- Xbox Console
- 3 black Xbox Controller S
- Wireless Logitech controller
- 3rd party DVD remote and receiver
- All cables, MadCatz universal RF adapter, and a controller extension cord
- Forza Motorsport
- Madden NFL 06
- Fuzion Frenzy (Case only, no game)
- Freedom Fighters
- Grand Theft Auto III
- The Simpsons Road Rage
- Test Drive
- Amped
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
- Metal Slug 3
- Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood
- ESPN NFL 2k5
Total: $40

Went to check out another neighborhood sale on the way back from picking it up, and darn was it weird. New in box Wii, new in box silver slim PS2... But no games for any of them. The only thing I picked up was Myst: The Board Game for 50 cents.

Finally, went to a moving sale at a house I'd actually been to last year. No game stuff, but since they were doing a 5 things for $5 sale, I snagged a Linksys wireless B router, wireless B PCI or PCMCIA card, a new in bag Thinkpad power supply that appears to work with my laptop, a dustbuster, and my sister grabbed a big box of earrings. Not game stuff, but the fact that I can set up a power supply for my laptop in my bedroom and my living room will be quite convenient.

[quote=Samus;4277263]I live in the suburbs, rather than the city which would be easier, but I'd still like to be able bike around to near by neighborhoods and hit up yard sales. My parents think that I'll be either run over by a car or abducted by child molesters. Any ideas you used to convince your parents to let you bike around? Tell them you'll bring pepper spray or something in case there's a child molester. You'll wear a helmet in case of biking accidents etc.

It didn't take too much convincing to convince my parents.
Or you could just say that you're going biking and not specify that you're biking to yard sales. I dunno...

I'm assuming thats a PSP fat? Nice man. I wish I could get a PSP for under $10 >_<

Does it have CFW? Do you really think that someone that's selling a PSP for $7 in a bundle with random other old videogames, and lost the battery pack would know what the hell a CFW is?
That is a stupid question to ask.

I honestly just felt like ranting. No offense to you. ^_^

Phew, we had a rough day. 37 sales - nothing. No sightings, and only missed some Playstation stuff at one sale.

I'm thrilled to see all the stuff you guys got this weekend! Everyone got some great deals!

We're moving to our first home next Saturday, which means a completely new area for yardsaling. We have a ton of space so we'll finally be able to display and play all our purchases. We have a large finished basement that will be the game room, and we're very excited to get that all set up. We'll definitely post pictures once that's up and running.

So we should be back up and saling in a couple weeks!

Some advice for those new to YS'ing

The first thing you should do is go to the YS page in the CAG wiki.

Then start reading through the old yard sale threads. theres tons of info and examples of how great deals were made and found.

You will certainly go through trial and error periods and will always be polishing your technique. The CIF technique is your best friend. Multi pocket cargo shorts with multiple monetary denominations are a plus for me when I CIF.

Be prepared to spend about 1-2 hours a week looking for sales in the papers, on-line etc. community and townwide sales should be focal points

Most stuff is found bright and early in the morning. I usually start out between 7-8 AM and usually call it a day around 11:30 AM. Stop at every sale no matter how lame it looks or how non-gaming the people running it look. Always be friendly and talkative and always ask for games if you do not see anything. Keep in mind many people do not put out games and they'll be many an occasion where you get "I got a box in the attic" or "let me ask my son he's got so many games" You should always leave your number with people that you could potentially score a deal from. I use little hand written type cards.

Leave your Slipknot t-shirts or pimp wear at home

Buy a GPS

Beware of double parking - some towns just love to dish out tickets.

If you smoke don't walk up to the sale with butt in mouth many people find this offensive.

most important - you should always try to take control of the situation, you have the money and they want it Haggling is expected. Very seldom will you find someone that sticks to their IAP

sort of an uneventful day yesterday despite the absolute plethora of yard sales we ran into. most people actually had video games out at their sales, but 99% of it was PS2/Xbox garbage -- your typical 5-dollar copies of SSX3 and whatnot.

the only thing that really caught my eye was the Genesis stuff, all lying in a plastic crate/box. i was initially only interested in the ThunderForce games (both of which i already have, but i'm quick to rescue any classics from the inevitable trash bin), but when i asked how much for the two (figuring on 50 cents-$1 apiece), the guy selling said he'd take 10 bucks for the whole box. at this point in the day i was actually yard-saling toward my ATM and had only 8 dollars on me. figuring "who couldn't use a 47th copy of Sonic the Hedgehog?", i asked if he'd take 7. he thought a moment and said, "sure". unfortunately, all of the games are missing manuals except for Strider and the 16 in 1 ( which never had one -- most bootlegs don't), but since they're all duplicates for me, i figured what the heck.

the movies came from three different sales, but i felt they were OK prices for Disney movies, so i added them to my post.

i have one. it's got a picture of a weird fox-looking animal wearing a Three Musketeers outfit... lemme see if i can scare up a pic.

in general, pirate/bootleg/multicarts aren't really worth much. every once in a while they'll fetch a decent amount in the US just because we don't see them that often -- at least, not older multicarts. GBA and DS bootlegs are quite common in the States right now. selling them is still a no-no, so even if you have one that people want, it can be tough (as well as sort of wrong) to sell them.

the main thing that makes them fun and cool is that they're rare, and of course, because of all the bizarre types of bootlegs there are. i enjoy them (i've probably got a dozen or two lying around here and there) in my collection and buy them whenever they turn up.

I made my route, but ended up throwing it out after oversleeping by about an hour and a half as soon as I arrived at the community sale that was #1 on my list, and was overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of it. Cars were lining the streets and traffic was crawling as people stopped in the middle of the road to get out to check out sales. So, I pulled into the first sidestreet that I saw, parked, and set out on foot. I was there for almost three hours, walked through the entire development and hit literally dozens of sales.

Sale #1:
Theme Park Roller Coaster (PS2, complete)
Stitch: The Movie (DVD)
Atlantis: Milo's Return (DVD)
Pokemon Diamon & Pearl Nintendo Power Guide (beaten up)
TOTAL: CIF'ed $6

Sale #2:
Hello Kitty Messenger Bag
TOTAL: $1
I was going to get this for the girlfriend, its a nice denim one with a small logo on it -- and it turned out to be useful for carrying all of my purchases around.

Sale #3:
Disney Treasures Collection (set of illustrated books)
TOTAL: $1

Sale #4:
Chrono Cross (PSX, complete, original)
Guardian's Crusade (PSX, complete)
The Wedding Singer (DVD)
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (DVD)
Shanghai Knights (DVD)
Princess Mononoke (DVD)
TOTAL: $6
They had a PSX with games that I offered $10 on but they wanted $15, as well as a bin of $1 DVDs. These were the only four left; I offered $6 for them all along with the two best PSX titles (the other five or so were pretty much garbage).

Sale #5:
Big Lebowski, The
Billy Madison (Special Ed-ition)
Carrie (Special Edition)
Dead Like Me: Season 2 (NEW)
Fly, The
Forest Gump (Special Collector's Edition)
Harry Potter & The Sorceror's Stone (DVD)
Lolita
Mask, The
Philadelphia (Anniversary Edtion)
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (NEW)
Star Trek V: The Final Fronteir
Star Trek: Nemesis
THX 1138 (The George Lucas Director's Cut)
Tron (20th Anniversary Collector's Edition)
Who Framed Roger Rabbig (Vista Series DVD)
William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet
Yojimbo (Criterion Collection)
TOTAL: $45

19 DVDs, including a Criterion and a box set, and mostly special/2 disc editions...the lady running the sale had a huge table full of DVDs with a $4 each / 3 for $10 sign. I CIF'ed
$40, she countered with $50 and we settled on $45. Not bad for 18 films and a brand new box set.

Sale #6:
Pa Rappa the Rappa (PSX, missing manual)
TOTAL: $1

Apparently, this guy had a ton of DC and PSX stuff that already had went, and the lone Pa Rappa was all that was left.

Sale #7:
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (Blu-Ray)
TOTAL $4

More than I wanted to spend (I had CIF'ed $6 to the haughty teen it belonged to, who kept insisting it was worth a lot more since it was blu ray). but whatever...$4 for a BRD isn't something I'm going to pass on if I have the slightest interest in seeing it.

Sale #8:
The Cat In The Hat (DVD)
TOTAL: $1

"How much are the DVDs?" "$1." "Done."

Sale #9:
Edward Scissorhands (DVD, full-screen, NEW)
Ghost Busters Double Feature Gift Set (DVD, NEW)
TOTAL: $6

I had wanted both of these for a while. Again, not a price I'm going to argue with for brand new items that I want.

Sale #10:
Treasures of the Deep (PSX, complete)
Play Link System Link Cable (Nyko, PSX, NEW)
TOTAL: $1

This is the result of someone who went looking for his NES, and came back with a PSX and a few mediocre games. I offered $5 for everything, he was thinking $20, so I offered a buck for the one decent game and an accessory that I had never seen before.

Sale #11:
Green House (Game & Watch)
Oil Panic (Game & Watch)
Turtle Bridge (Game & Watch)
Ms Pac-Man (Genesis, cart-only)
Road Rash II (Genesis, complete)
Two Controllers, Model 2 PSU and RFU switch (Genesis)
TOTAL: $5

They had a bunch of stuff laid out on the driveway and upon arriving, the young gentleman running the sale told me to just make an offer on anything...so I picked up the 3 game and watches, pointed to the Sega stuff (no console) and offered $5, which he gladly accepted.

Sale #11.5
Hot Dog
1/2 Liter Poland Spring
Bottle of Punch
TOTAL: $2

I was hungry by this time, and a lot of people were BBQing or otherwise selling snacks. Shut up.

Sale #12:
Frogger's Adventures: The Rescue (GC, missing manual)
Robots (GC, complete)
Spongebob Squarepants: Lights, Camera, Pants (GC, complete)
Super Mario Sunshine (GC, original, complete)
WarioWord (GC, complete)
Crash Nitro-kart (PS2, complete)
TOTAL: $10

There were no games out but I asked for them, they came out of the house with these asking $2 each. I tried to CIF $8, they insisted on no less than $10...which I was expecting anyway.

Sale #13:
American Psycho (Blu-Ray)
TOTAL: $2

CIF'ed $2, she took it.

Sale #14:
14 Cliff's Notes
Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew
MAD Magazine Return of the Jedi & A-Team Edition
Return of the Jedi Official Comic Adaptation #4 of 4
TOTAL: $4

All in all, pretty productive. Not a ton of gaming finds, but for the $100 or so I spent over the day, 27 DVDs, a DVD box set, 2 blu-rays, 13 games, some books, 3 game and watches, and some miscellaneous Genesis accessories. After the first two hours and the 19-DVD score, I really just wanted it to be over and to get back to my car. I also got head-sunburn, and its darkening nicely so far. I'll need to remember a hat next time.

I had an alright saturday. First Garage sale had a genesis with hookups, two controllers, and cart only copies of Sonic 1 & the Lion King for $5. A bit higher than others get it for, but i've been looking for a genny for a while, and i'm no good at bargaining. Oh well. Nothing at the next couple of sales, and then at one i found a guide for OOT. I asked how much it was, and got it for $.50. Wasn't a bad price, considering they were asking $50 for an old gamecube. I overheard someone asking for a lower price as I was leaving, and the seller said something about the price on eBay. I hate people like that. Later, around 11, I was ready to give up, but stopped at one last sale, and found cart copies of Mario Tennis, Teleroboxer, and Nester's Funky Bowling for $.50 each. Pretty happy with that, since NFB goes for $20-30.

i'm no good at bargaining

In a situation like this you do not really need t o be good at bargaining. This was the perfect opportunity to stick $3 in the guys face and say these 6 skill less words "I'll give you 3 for it"

Once you pop your CIF cherry you'll never look back. You should always try and take control of the situation because you have something that every seller wants "MONEY" Don't be shy, be aggressive but not obnoxious, confidence is key. Like I've said before most great deals are made not found. this might not make to much sense to you now but with practice you'll learn that if you can sell yourself to the seller you'll eventually make great deals

Good luck - you can do it!

moiety
04-29-2008, 06:03 PM
As time goes on and you get more experience, you'll become more confident. The goal is to see, grab, CIF/haggle, and go. You should spend no more than a minute or so to complete this process. Every second you hesitate makes it more difficult to keep the scales tipped in your favor.

When you find something, you should be able to quickly decide in your mind what the most you would pay for it is. This takes experience, but it'll come to you. Create a system for yourself. Determine what YOUR prices are for games, systems, etc. Over time you will be able to automatically look at something and quickly form a price in your mind.

Here's an example:

Our baseline for carts (NES, Gen, N64, SNES) is a quarter (we actually never offer less than a quarter for any single item). So if we see 1 cart, we'll offer a quarter. Once the numbers go up, we get some quick math going. For example, we find 12 NES carts in a box. Going by our quarter baseline, that would be $3. For any kind of bundles, we slash the price roughly in half. So in this case, we'd offer $2. This lowers the baseline for haggling. Often a seller will accept this, but sometimes they'll counter. If you get a reasonable counter like $5, you can say, "Why don't we meet at the middle at $3?" (BTW - this is a great line to use in lots of cases, especially if the seller is a bit stubborn and you can't agree on a price). You might get a counter like $10. In this case we would try to pull the price down to $3 or $4. If the seller refuses to go below, say, $8, we evaluate the items. If the 12 NES carts are all commons and we already own them, we'd likely pass. If they are rarer items we have never seen in the field, we might pay a bit more (though not much more! ;)).

Not sure if this helps or not but you can see it's a process that you'll fine-tune over time. Don't be afraid to take chances when making offers!

Good time-saving tip: Hearing the seller talk about eBay should always be an immediate sign that you aren't going to score any deals. Don't even waste your time with these guys.

I had received a response to an ad I had placed looking for older video games. The fellow who responded said he had a box of games he no longer played. I agreed to meet and check it out. We meet and half the games he had were in pristine condition complete. This is where the twist came in... He looked up every game he had on ebay and wrote them in a notepad. After snatching the boxed maniac mansion and SMB2 he told me that those were $15 each so I promptly set those down. I did however manage to get the following:

Taboo (Complete, NES)
Pin-Bot (Complete, NES)
Hogan's Alley (Complete, NES)
Harley's Humongeous Adventure (Cart only, SNES)

I snagged these out of his box and I was only charged $6. I decided that I was not going to deal with him any longer and I took the games and left.

It's really annoying as shit when people want to sell you something in person for the same price they'd get if they took a picture of it, wrote out a listing, listed it on ebay, paid ebay a listing fee, waited days for it to sell with the potential of having to relist it, paying ebay final value fees when it does sell, paying paypal fees when you get paid, IF you get paid, packaging it up and standing in line at the post office.

I'd have told him to take his ass to ebay then if he wants ebay prices.

I really thought about him but I flat told him that I wasn't paying that much for some of the games. He seemed offended but he wants money I had some. I feel I did alright for what I got but I was prepared to buy a lot more that what I did. That is what happens when you deal with students though usually in this area though.

If you want eBay prices, go to eBay. Do people not understand that? Ordering things off eBay comes at a premium.

Hey guys! Sorry I am late for posting, but I found some awesome stuff last saturday. Here is what I found:

PS One w/ all hook ups and two controllers- 5 bucks. This is one of the remodled PlayStations that is really thin, and was surprised to find it at this price, since they were selling an "American Idol" PS2 game for 3 bucks.
Pagemaster SNES with manuel- 1.50 . More than I usually spend, but I have never seen this game before and I managed to haggle from 2.00 to only 1.50.
Sewer Shark Sega CD- 1 buck
Mortal Kombat Sega CD- 1 buck
Naruto 3 DS- 2.00
Odyssey 2 in original box, 6 games and manuel- 15.00.

Well, that sums up Saturday's finds. I didn't do as well as the previous weekend, but that Odyssey made my day (and life probably). I have been looking for one, and I almost had a heart attack finding it in its original box for onlly 15.00.

Lately I've really been wanting to build up my older video game collection so I've decided to give this garage sale thing a shot. I've never really been to any before so I'm not really sure what to expect. I've read the tips in the Wiki and made a list of around 20 sales to go to and read the tips and such. I've got a list printed out and alarm clock set. Hope I find some good stuff! Wish me luck on my first garage sale adventure! ^_^

I'll let you guys know how it goes. ^_~

First first post in the YS thread. Spent $16 dollars total.

Got myself a kennel for our new kitten we got last night. Got this and the puzzle for $5.

http://www.members.cox.net/msheppard8/macey.jpg

Next was the PS1 w/ 2 controllers and A/V cable. Was marked $2, but is missing the power cord. CIF for $1. (already tested, and it works fine, just needs a cleaning)

Lastly, I picked up Luigi's Mansion complete (PC), Super Smash Bros. Melee complete, and Pikmin 2 missing instructions. Game were marked $4/each, and CIF'd $10 for those 3. They had others, even some PS2 games for $5, but nothing else good.

I went out at 7:45 so everyone was still opening, Teh fisrt 4 sales I hit were in the town that usualy has the most games, there wa noting there but DDR pad for a dollar(got home and it's broken) I went to tow towns that I usualy find no games at and every sale had games and were chargind to much, Or had sold them earlier for insanely low prices.

My last sale of the day had a stack of 14 NES games, I C'd $5 and the lady said no, my husband said no lower than $2 apiece he can get $2 apiece for them on Ebay. so i just grabbed afew that I had never seen before, and called it a day.
games I got;
(NES) The Fantastic adventures of dizzy
(NES) Krazy Kreatures
(NES)Puzzle
(NES) cool spot
(NES) Athletic World
and 1 FuncoLand NES game holder.

Well today was pretty much a bust I thought.

I hit like 30 yard sales in this town-wide yard sale. I kept hearing "I just sold them". I HATE THAT LINE. Why do people taunt me like that?

Then I saw a PSOne + controller + some crappy games like Tony Hawk. He wanted $20, and I offered $7 for just the system and controller, but he wouldn't go lower than $10 so I passed.

But on my first yard sale I got a Rubik's Cube for 50 cents (my cousin lost his and he really liked it, so I got this for him), and then something a bit more interesting.

System Shock, disc only but in very good shape, for 25 cents. I bought it having no real clue what it goes for, but I know the name and it was only a quarter. Does anyone know how much I can get for that?

Thanks! I don't have a Sega CD yet, but I am hoping on finding one soon. I probably wont be able to hook up my Odyseey 2 until I move when I get an older television to play it on.

Well, I went to garage sales for a couple of hours with my dad, and it was pretty much a bust. I found a couple of overpriced PS2's (250 bucks for system, controller and 4 games) and I didn't buy them. The only thing I bought was three vinyl records (Fleetwood Mac's Rumors, Lionel Richie and Santana) for a buck a piece. The most entertaining thing of the day was when this lady thought my dad was my mom (he has long hair, but it is obvious that he is a guy). When I went back in the car, I told my dad and we both laughed while driving back home.

@sinnbox-Those weren't my finds. I wish. lol

My yard sale day sucked. I first went biking, and there wasn't a single sign in biking distance.
My mom got up around 9:30, and agreed to take me, but she wasn't ready to go til 10. Since it was 10, I got the we already sold them. The only games I saw was when some redneck guy came out of his house with Duke Nukem, and the three PS1 Tomb Raiders with guides for all of them. I CIF'd $5, and he got really insulted. I did manage to get a sealed V for Vendetta for $2. ^_^

Here you have to get up at 6 in the morning to get anything decent, because we live so close to the border that tons of people drive up from Mexico, buy everything good at sales, then take it across the border and sell it.

I was actually out of town this weekend so I didn't hit up any sales. However, I did manage to go to a few pawn shops and here's what I ended up with:

I walked into this pawn shop and spotted Baten Kaitos immediatly in the $6 game case. However, there was also a Gamecube that was complete for $20 with another basketball game. Then I found Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 for PS2. I offered $25 for eveything and he bit. However, he could not find the Naruto game so I only picked up the following:

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean

I ended up paying $5 for it but I hear it is a great game.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2465751721/

I managed to fins something awesome while I was at a pawn shop:

Super Mario Bros. 3: The Complete Series

The price was $10 on this DVD set and would not budge. However, I really wanted it so I got it.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2465752071/

Not much of a story here. I went into a thrift store and I needed an extra conroller for Dreamcast. At $1 for this official SEGA controller I couldn't go wrong.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mirpkered/2465752759/

Well I went to Memphis this weekend to visit a freind with the wife. He and I went out and pawn shopped for a buit and mentioned that he had some game stuff he would just give to me. Well he dug in his closet for a bit before we left and I got the following:

Saturn System (no hookups)
NES Dogbone controller (x2)
NES AC Power supply

Saturn games disc only:
NHL All-Star Hockey
NFL Quarterback Club 97
Daytona USA
Mr. Bones (x2)
Virtua Cop
Doom
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
College Slam
Bootleg Sampler

I had a yard sale adventure over the weekend!

At the first house, I snagged my find from a woman and her son who had gotten the lady down to $25 from $30 on an Indigo Gamecube, but she didn’t buy it since it didn’t have a controller. I knew I needed one with the digital AV out port to run my Freeloader and Action Replay, and the indigos and blacks have them, so I tried to talk her down even further.

Lot #1 - $30
Indigo Gamecube system (loose with AV cord and power cord)
Nintendogs: Lab & Friends (DS, complete)
Pokemon Diamond Version (DS, complete)

I left a complete copy of FIFA 2006 for DS and the Pokemon strategy guides that the woman thought were more valuable than the DS game itself. That’s debatable.

When I got to the second house where I found games, I remembered I had been to the house before. I had gone there for a yard sale two years ago. The guy that lived there used to work at Funcoland back in the day, and every few years he unloads some more of his collection. However, he was going to Florida this summer and he told me that his wife said he had to get rid of some games to pay for said trip.

Lot #2 - $55

Complete Saturn games -
Saturn Bomberman
Legend of Oasis
Nights
Resident Evil
Croc
Hexen
Spot Goes To Hollywood
Tetris Plus
VR Virtua Racing
NFL '97
Tomb Raider
Hardcore 4X4
Sega Rally
Worldwide Soccer
Virtua Cop (in not for resale sleeve)

Loose Saturn games in Funcoland sleeves -
Sonic 3D Blast
Soviet Strike
Cyber Speedway
World Series Baseball
Street Fighter: The Movie
F1 Challenge
Madden ‘97
NHL ‘97
Pebble Beach Golf Links
Scud the Disposable Assassin
Virtua Fighter 2

Other stuff -
Double Dragon (Master System, game with case)
Time Soldiers (Master System, complete)
Sesame Street: Elmo's Letter Adventure (PS1, complete)
Sesame Street: Elmo's Number Adventure (PS1, complete)
Magic of Scherezade (NES, loose)

When I saw Saturn Bomberman, a little bit of pee came out. ;)

yeah, that's our 8 month old shih tzu. They get along pretty well. The dog plays a little more rough than I'd like, but it will come back three-fold on her in a few weeks once the kitten starts getting bigger.

I've been wanting Luigi's Mansion for a while now. Started playing it last night, and must say I'm a little disappointed thus far. Also played about 5 min. into Pikmin 2. I have no idea why that game brings such a premium. I'll be offering it up here soon for trade.

I hit a neighbor hood sale a bit out of my way, and considering i didn't get there till ten, i did alright. Nothing at the first few, except overpriced ps2 games ($5 for Madden 2002? Really?) First find was cart only copies of LOZ:OOT, Star Wars: Shadows of the empire (or something like that.) and Pokemon Yellow for .25 each. A few sales later, i picked up a complete 24 season one for $2 (Asking $3) At another sale, i found a disc only copy of Gunfighters: Legend of Jesse James for the Ps1 w/o a price. I asked how much it was, the lady looks at it for a second, and says i could just take it for free. I don't care how bad it is, a free game's a free game. Lastly, i picked up 8 cd's for $3. (PM5k, 2x bush, Gin Blossoms, Notorious B.I.G, Kottonmouth Kings, Jay-Z, and Busta Ryhmes.) I'm keeping PM5k, but i think i'll either flip or trade the others. Total Spent: $5.75

Found a neighborhood yard sale completely by accident this weekend while running other errands. Got there around 12:30 but still made a couple nice scores.

- PC copy of FF7 (original, not the Eidos reprint), with manual, keyboard overlay, and strategy guide. Really nice condition. $5. Probably overpaid, but we can more than make that back reselling it on eBay.

- PSone with a first-party controller and a power cord. Marked at $6 and I tried to get my husband to offer them less, but he didn't try. Picked it up anyway. Not sure why, maybe we'll modchip it for the one import game we own. As when I was in college, I packed it into my purse for storage for the rest of the day.

I also found a partial roll of brickwork for Hallmark Christmas villages (applicable to other modeling projects too, I guess), so I bought that for $1. I'll keep a little bit for scrapbooking projects and pass the rest along to my mom for her Christmas village.

Two questions. Who do you guys use to host them. How do I embed them in a post with proper sizing? (HTML does not seem to work)

Photobucket is good for hosting, and provides various sorts of code for you to do the insertion with, both HTML and forum-compatible types.

Luigi's Mansion is crap. I have a copy of it sitting around somewhere, and you can get hundreds of them for under $10 here.
I don't understand why pikmin 2 fetches such a high price either.
I think its because olimar was in SSBB, and playing that made people want to try out his original game.

Yes, Luigi's M blows. But Pikmin (1 and 2) are really great games. The value of P2 is due to scarcity.

- PC copy of FF7 (original, not the Eidos reprint), with manual, keyboard overlay, and strategy guide. Really nice condition. $5. Probably overpaid, but we can more than make that back reselling it on eBay.Overpaid?? Considering that you can sell it for 10x to 20x that, I don't see how you could say that.

Speaking of FF7 PC, the Singapore imports that were on eBay for the longest time at around $30 new have now dried up and I regret not buying one for the collection :/

There's a few copies of it at Bookman's (used store that I have lots of free credit to) for $10-15 I think.
I just never bought one because I have the PS1 version, but a few have been sitting there for a while.

Good point, I just felt bad that we didn't even try talking it down. But yeah, last summer we got rid of my husband's PC copy of it, the re-release in the blue sleeve, with no manual or anything, and that went easily for $50. Given that this is more complete and in better shape, it should do at least as well if not better.

It was kinda funny, because we walked up to the sale, and the instant I saw it I grabbed it from behind a purse or something, before Aaron even saw it or had the chance to tell me to grab it.

Planning on hitting 4 yard sales tomorrow since I work on Friday. Will post results and maybe pics if I get anything good.

Update:
Today I hit quite a few yard sales. A few had movies, a few had some PS1 & 2 games (although none that were worth a purchase on my limited budget). However, I did get some fairly good stuff.

First sale I hit which was the sale of the day I got:

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 2 (SNES) in box, no manual
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) in box, manual for Majora's Mask (which I laughed at)
Both were marked $5 a piece, I CIF'd $5, she bit.

A few sales later got:

Fargo
Schindler's List
Stephen King's It
The DVD's were $5 a piece, I didn't try bargaining because the girl who was running the garage sale was pretty smokin' hot and my CAG functions just melted down. I know, I'm weak, haha.

Later on I hit a sale with CD's going for $3 a piece. I picked up 4, CIF'd $4, got 'em. They were:

Evanescence: The Open Door
Finger Eleven: Finger Eleven
The Killer's: Sam's Town
Switchfoot: The Legend of Chin.

Overall, not spectacular, but I was pretty much not gonna do any better than that first buy, either.

I hit two neighborhoods this morning. I only found magic pengel for $3.50.

I passed on a $5 broken ps2 since I already have a broken one. At the same sale, I passed on a gamegear since it had a broken battery cover and I have one already. I saw a psp for $100, but passed since I'm not willing to pay more than $50 for one at a garage sale. I also passed on a dreamcast and a saturn, since the lady didn't want to break up the bundles.

Got me Defcon 5 and Alien the Trilogy for PsOne for $3. They wanted $3 each, but I asked for half off. Got it.

Then a Ps2 slimline with God of War GH edition for $25, comes with one first party and one third party controller. All the hook-ups, works too.

Passed on a Dreamcast with a few sports games for $75. Dammit, I really need one but I can't find one for a decent price.

My best find of the day, however, came from my locally owned video game store. I have been looking for this game for my daughter for quite some time. She is really enjoying the first game, and really wanted the now somewhat rare, and definitely expensive sequel.

Went into the store on a whim to see if they had the game. I had called a couple of weeks ago and they did, but they were wanting $50 for it. I figured I had enough crap in the car from my earlier finds that I could trade some stuff in and come up with the rest if needed.

I asked if they had it and he said they did and that they would have it cheaper than GameStop. I told him that it was going for $40 there, but GameCrazy had it for $15. I figured that it would be around the $40 range. I about crapped my pants when he said $12.99. SOLD, no manual and a marker on the front of the disc. What is this mystery game?

My daughter just about had a N64 kid reaction. It made me feel good. She played until she fell asleep.

Today was a bust for me. Hit more than double the sales I hit last week, and came up empty handed. The only things I saw were a couple of PS1 at 2 different sales. One was $5 with a couple of arcade sticks, and the other came in the orig. box for $25. I passed on both.

Here's to next week!

Quite a few sales and a few purchases today. Only spent about 1.5 hours saling (like usual, actually).

At the first sale, had a few crappy xbox games. Asked if they had others; she said yes but those are the only ones the kid wanted to get rid of. Stuff like fairly oddparents:(.

Next, went to a school that sponsored a bunch of people's sales. A lady was selling 3 xbox games at $5 a piece. I wanted all but o well, I'm not as brave as snotknocker. Offered 5 for hulk and mechassault. Skipped metal of honour. Next time I'll offer 5 for all three since she seemed to not care.

Next saw a big madcatz steering wheel accessory that worked for all the last gen systems. I play burnout a lot so figured what the heck. $50 orig tag still on, she wanted 10, I offered 5. Got for $5.

Last sale of the day, at 9:30, found a bunch of disney dvd's and some cd's. Dvd's marked $2.50 each. Offered $3 for 3 dvds and 2 cd's. Accepted. This deal actually made me reanalyze yard sale values. I always figured to offer a buck a piece, but when i have multiples, i can halve that.

Also, noticed a lot of sales advertise multifamily even when it was only 1 house with their friend over as someone to talk to. Found it highly annoying.

so..today i found out that most people are harder to CIF if I am dressed in a shirt and tie, but i did manage to hit abotu 30 sales in teh towns on the way to my friend's wedding. the first town(my normal GS town) waas where i found all the games i got.

Sale 1:
Lady had 4 NES games and 1 N64 game,
I Cif'd $1 for
NES The Little Mermaid
N64 Clayfighter 63 1/2
She said no so i offered $2 and told her the games were realy dirty and she hesitantly said ok.

Sale 2:
had a NES with power pad zapper controller and a third party controller and 7 games for $15 CIF'd 5 settled on $10 t had 2 games i didn't yet own, plus it came with 2 old issues of Nintendo Power.

Sale 3:
was 8 miles out of my way but advertised a playstation. I decided to go on hopes i would find some rare PS1 games(they are plentiful around town) i got there and they had 3 PS2 games marked at $5 and a PS1 marked $15 I picked up Yana Caballisata: City skater and the skateboard controller CIf'd $2 got it for $3.

Sale 4:
Multiple Family sale said they had a huge box of "Old School stuff" tehy kept lokign all over for it only to find out that one lady had sold it yesterday.

Besides those game finds I only found Silenced by Jerry Jenkins at a sale to benefit the local Pro-Life pregnancy center.

The rest of the sales I stopped at had nothing, said "we sood those yesterday", or were terribly overpriced. one sale even had a kid that had bought abunch of the bargain games from the local game store and was doubling or tripling the price.

My last purchase was the Golden compas on DVD from the local Pawn Shop.

Went to a city yard sale and snagged:

Mario Party 7 (GC)
Mario Party 5 (GC)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)
Mario Kart: Double Dash! (GC)
Mario Baseball (GC)

I got these all for $44. They were all priced individually at $54 total. The owners mom was there, but the kid selling them wasn't. I wanted to negotiate, but the mother was reluctant without her son's approval. In the interest of time I asked her to knock $2 off of each game, which she did. As I drove off, I saw the boy walking towards the house waving to his mom.

I also got a sack of 25 DVD's for $10. No real story here marked $1 each offered $10. It has Snatch and a couple other decent movies. I'll probably trade the rest to FYE or a local store towards GTA IV or something.

I pulled up and saw a milk crate under a table with the SNES stuff. (NEWBS - Follow the thought process here, a good example on how to make a great deal) Seeing this under the table and not proudly displayed on top of the table my first instinct is that the seller does not put much value on this stuff. As I'm looking through the crate the lady says you can have the whole crate for er... $40. As she gives me the price the tone of her voice and stutter on the price suggests she has no idea of the value of the items. I immediately turn around and CIF her $10 saying I'll give you $10 for it , she looks at the cash and comes back with how obout $20. (I now have control of the sale because she's asking me and not telling me, and by the look on her face and her eyes on the money, I know I'm getting this for $10). So I respond to her offer with "If you take the $10 you won't have to carry this crate back into the house at the end of the day, and besides that's really all I can spend right now" This type of response is a kind of reverse psychology that suggests to the seller that I might be the only person that comes along with an interest in this stuff" She smiles shakes her head yes and takes my $10. As I'm about to snatch my goodies I notice the DC box at the far end of the sale and I ask her how much and she points to another lady saying it belongs to her. I check out the goods and see the QA3 in the box which I never played so I CIF $3 and this lady comes back with a $5 counter but she comes back with a firm "no $5" while looking me dead in the eye. The tone of her voice suggests she will stick firm to the $5 asking price. So I abandon another counter and pay her the $5. But the very best part of this deal is I sold the Mario RPG to a guy that frequently buys games from me for $50 before I even came home

So after this I drive around another 1.5 hours and find nothing untill I hit a sale with a bunch of PS2 games and managed to score a long awaited complete copy of FF2 for $3 CIF

http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/1316/1001524th1.jpg

Also to you CAG's new to yard sailing always remember when someone comes with a high price it does not mean you should give up - always -always - haggle. I had another score on a NES and games a couple of weeks ago and that lady wanted $40 and I got her to take $10, these things have a way of repeating themselves and if you don't try to be a little bold and make the deal you'll ultimately find your good scores being few and far between.

Another long day at the races. 2 neighborhood sales and a few singles. Not too bad of a day. Wife is out of town, so I had to get the two kids up at 6 a.m. Daughter wasn't too happy about it, but she usually likes to hit the yard sales. OK, so you're telling me someone sold you all of those PS1 & PS2 games and a Queen Greatest Hits CD for only $5? Damn, they must've needed the $$$$ BADLY, cause they could've got the same amount from Gamestop for them or maybe a bit more(I doubt it though, since most are craptacular games).

Mind you, they'd have been SOL on the PS1 games, but hell, I'd rather use my games as frisbees than give them away for a low price. Maybe that's just me though.

Good job either way.

I went to sales around 10:30, not expecting to get anything. i got:

DBZ betrayal VHS
DBZ trouble! VHS
Xenosaga preorder DVD (someone tell me if this is worth anything)
bootleg batman begins
$1 total. I really only wanted the xenosaga DVD, but the other stuff was on the table so I was like what the hell and asked him to throw it in.

NIB 1st party PS2 controller
$3 total
My 2 player controller crapped out a few months ago, and all my friends have had to play with the uncomfortable DQ slime controller, and this one was new for $3. ^_^

Even if they don't work you can still trade them to GS and get enough for a $20 game in store credit.

Well finally got to go out looking for sales for the first time this summer. Nothing great, but I'm happy with what I got.

One sale:

PS2:
Resident Evil 4 Non-GH Complete
Devil May Cry 2 Non-GH Complete
Metal Gear Solid 2 Non-GH missing manual
Multitap
$6

Another sale:

N64 with cords and a controller
$8

This guy had tons of video game stuff, so much that it was pretty much his entire garage sale. I talked him down from $15 to $8 on the N64, though I would have liked to get one with games, but I got a good 20 or so games for $10 at an earlier sale so I'm happy. It was strange because he had a cart-only Pokemon Snap that he was selling for $50.

Another sale:
Sega Genesis with one three button controller and the cords
NES controller
$1

Yay.

Good call on the condition. Didn't really look too hard, but they aren't in the best of condition. Should play, but already found one broken one. Thankfully one that doesn't have a big resell value.

As far as the sale goes, I just asked if how much he would take. He gave the old, "I don't know", and his dad got on him for being such poor businessman. I then asked $5, he was a little stunned but accepted.

I am wanting to take them in to either GS, GC, or maybe even take in these plus some of my other weekend finds to the local game dealer.

Need some advice. As I am going through the aforementioned PS1/PS2 discs I am wondering if it would be worth getting a disc spinner to clean some of these things up. Why someone ditches the boxes for magazine holder . . . So I am debating whether to just dump these things in for trade, or should I try to buff them and maybe get a little more return on my "investment". Instead of getting maybe $20 back on trade and still have to pay 1/2 on a new game, maybe I should get a buffer, clean 'em up, ebay them, and be able to afford a new game and a little more.

I know that w/o cases this is probably a dead end, but I have several other complete disc games that could stand a little help. Does anyone have any input/experience/suggestions with buffers for use at home?

I picked up on something today while I was out. Maybe it will work for you. My usual method is to approach the person running the yard sale and ask if they have any old video games/systems. Lots of times it is an instant "no". What I have been doing lately is just continuing to throw out my line after the "no" with, "you know like Nintendo or Playstation games." I think that all of my finds today were after the person said no. As soon as I said "Nintendo" or "Playstation" the light bulb went off over their heads. Example

Me: How are you doing? How is the traffic?

Them: Good (Usually)

Me: Do you happen to have any old video game stuff . . .

Them: No

Me: . . . like Nintendo or Playstation games/systems?

Them: Now that you mention it I have a Nintendo system and games that I was thinking about putting out, but didn't. Are you interested (incredulously).

Me: That is exactly what I am looking for . . . (Continue transaction)

That is what happened today on the SNES I got. It is a subtle technique. I try not to be overbearing, it is just a slight pause after the initial question, but still making it sound like it is part of the question. Just like Snotknocker's suggestions it is all part of a routine. The more you do it the smoother it gets.

Hope this might help you all. Keep the stories coming.

Good call with that technique. I would have worded the "That is exactly" part slightly differently, but on the spot I probably would have said the same. I always try try to remain as calm as possible, and not express TOO much interest, but it's hard :p
Hopefully some people have sales tomorrow, and I'll be hitting up the flea market, too.

Maybe I should try bringing cards.

Here's what usually happens:

me: Do you guys have any video games or DVDs?
Them: No/I used to have an nintendo/Yes, what systems are you looking for?

I've found that the people who you actually have to ask for games have better games than the ones who put them out at the yard sale.

Also, I know moiety said he says about $.25 for a common cart. How much should I offer for a common PS1/PS2/XBOX etc game?

Went to about 45 yardsales total today

Bart Simpson's Escape From Camp Deadly with case - $1

This sale had Beavis & Butthead for the Genesis marked at $1 along with a Brick GameBoy with about 5 games, only decent one I left behind has I had it being TMNT Fall of The Foot Clan. It was marked $10 for all of the GameBoy stuff, I asked about only buying one GameBoy game and the guy running the sale said I could have it for a buck.

Area 51 with manual (PSX) - $1
Mortal Kombat Trilogy with manual (PSX) - $1
Pitfall The Mayan Adventure (PC) - .25

All as marked

Doom complete (PSX) - $1
Spyro The Dragon complete GH (PSX) - $1

Was asking $3 per a PSX game offered a buck each.

Playstation 2 1st party controller - $1

Marked $5 offered a buck. I've had a Playstation 2 since the day they came out and oddly enough the only 1st party PS2 controller I've had all these years is the one that came with my system.

NES 1st Party AC Adaptor - .25

This was found with a GameCube steering wheel as the people running this sale though it went with the steering wheel. Asked about it said a buck countered with .25

Fighter Stick SG-6 (Ascii) (Genesis) - $1

Dennis The Menace (GB)
Killer Instinct (GB)
Mortal Kombat II (GB)
Mario Golf (GBC)

3.90 for the 4 GameBoy games

Donkey Kong (GB) - Free

I found a few controllers at this sale and the Fighter Stick SG-6 had a "make offer" sticker on it which I offered a dollar for and was taken. This was at a community sale and I was on foot and when I walked back by this house on the way back the lady called me over has I asked about video games and her son found about 20 GameBoy to GameBoy Color games that they just put out along with a GameBoy Color system marked $6. I tried out a few of the games on the system and picked out a few went up and asked how much and was told that their son wanted $5 each to which I said I was thinking they'd probably want a dollar a game and was just going to put them back at that starting price. The kid that owned the games was across the street but was coming right back and he ended up saying that a dollar was ok when his parents asked him about it. As I was looking the games over an older lady walked up and was interested in them for a younger family member. When she told the lady that was with her that they were a buck each the other lady said to buy them all since they were only a buck each so the lady buying pondered over it and ended up buying the rest of the games along with the system except for Donkey Kong since who she was buying the games for already had it. She even bought all of the sports games! I would have grabbed a few more if they were cheaper but didn't really need them anyways as realisticly I'd never play them. The games I ended up putting back 720 (GBC) Tony Hawk Pro Skater (GBC), Grand Theft Auto (GBC), ESPN Track & Field (GBC) & Jurrasic Park (GB) if I'm remembering them all. I probably shouldn't have bothered with the fighting games but I mostly picked them up as a gag for their older brothers that are better ROFL and I though I'd give Dennis The Menace a try since I'm hoping it's a decent 2D game. I was almost out of money and was .10 short which was ok with them. As I was leaving the lady running the sale picked up Donkey Kong and gave it to me as to be rid of the last game :)

I pulled up and saw a milk crate under a table with the SNES stuff.....

Haggling isn't really a problem for me but all of your tips are really good and seem to go deeper psychologically into the whole haggling process then I usually think/realize afterwards. Even on a few amazingly good deals I've gotten I tried to set the anchor low by starting out low with a $5 offer with the poker face look and tone to which I usually get told a solid "that it's too low" but then get them to settle on $10 rather easily.

I find the hard part being finding these golden oldies that you seem to find every (or almost every) week snotknocker lol I'm lucky to find a SNES package of that calibur that you found on your first sale today once a year. That's why I believe (after a few years of following this thread) that how well you do yardsaling/hunting in the wild for video games is very regional.

Yeah, my local market for video games at yard sales is just crap. It's a real small town area, you have a stretch of about 10 small towns then you hit Evansville, IN. About 90% of the yard sales don't have any video game items. Another 5% are the people that think they know everything that is more than 5 years old is rare and worth $50 bucks. The last 5% are the ones who think they can get eBay prices in the real world and spot off, well it goes for this much on eBay. I normally reply with a "put it on eBay then." and leave. I try not to be rude, but when they get this snotty attitude about eBay prices, I just get really pissed off.

I probably saw enough baby & toddler clothes to clothe half of the kids in town today. I seem to see a lot of yardsales that are all or mostly geared towards young kids clothes & toys with a fair amont of sales with older people with a lot of knick knacks. Around here you really have to go to the flea market to even see a better chuck of stuff for sale that would go under the antiques catagory. I see newer video game stuff over priced from people who I would think don't know any better (example I saw an xbox for $100 with a Need For Speed game and about 4-6 controllers) or maybe used eBay to gauge a price. Luckaly (sp?) I've only actually had someone mention eBay to me once at a flea market around here in the last few years when they had a SNES in box with a few games for about $60.

Certain things I remember from years ago also make sense to me as to why old games ain't as plentiful around me as they are for some other people...

1 - I remember my one friend bought Mega Man 7 for the SNES when it came out he though that it was kind of funny that the copy he bought the only copy EBgames got in and that's all they were sent! Because of this I would take an educated guess that it would be tougher for me to find some of the more uncommon to rare SNES games in the wild then someone in a bigger area.

2 - EBgames was the only store in my area that carried TG-16 and NeoGeo within 30-45 minutes of me so I'm sure that's less per so many houses sitting around collecting dust then in a bigger city area.

I also think that small town snydrome makes yardsaling tougher as around me I have a few areas I could hit up but with 5-10 sales in each area it does kind of make a multi town route rather spaced out and possibly even not worth the trouble with raising gas prices topping it off :(

Where do you live I live 45 min south of Fort Wayne, and we have tons of games here, but there are tons of McVans stickers on everything, in the last 6 years we have had several local game stores come in to some of the local small towns and they seem to boost the GS game numbers.

I live in Evansville now. Originally from Tell City, then moved to Indianapolis, then my company moved me to their Evansville office. If I'm off on the weekends or going back to the hometown area I'll stop at yard sales I see, but they are almost always a bust.

The only places I have found for games non-yard sale are Book & Music Exchange, Book Broker, and McVans. McVans and Book & Music Exchange have a tendency to be higher priced, and when I have found those games with their stickers on there, people want close to what they paid for them. "Well I paid $xx for it and I can't take much less than that." Book Broker seems to have the best prices, but they also don't put in the same quality control on catridge/disc conditions that the other places seem to do.

McVans is terrible about prices, and they have some weird excuses about why they are so high. when people act like the games are woth so much, I look for flaws on the cart and point them out, that is how i got my Clay fighter 64 1/3 today.

I have gotten that quite a bit -- it's usually older people that don't quite understand it or don't understand what they are selling or what they are selling there. I guess they think NES carts when they think of video games, not compact discs or DVDs. I have asked a middle-aged woman about videogames, to be told 'no' and to only see a Playstation sitting there a couple of feet away.

What were the N64 games you got?

Last summer I got a box of N64 games , the notable titles being Zelda OoT, Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Wave Race 64, 1080 Snowboarding, and Paper Mario. Other games were junky racing and wrestling ones, but all of the games came with manuals and Zelda and SM64 even came with strategy guides! So I was happy. All of that plus Time Crisis 2 complete with box and gun and Time Crisis 3 nearly complete (missing the disc itself of all things - argh:bomb:) for only $10, which was great.

And yeah, it kills me how so many people just hear the word "video" and start off in another direction. Once when I was just starting garage sailing, I got super excited at a sale when some people misinterpreted what I said.

Me: Good morning, do you guys by any chance have any video games you're getting rid of?

Them: Yes! Geez, we're really hurting for someone to take them off of our hands! We've got too much that we need to get rid of!

Me: Really? Great! Which ones are they?

Them: Oh man, I don't know, we've got so many... they're all inside, let me go get them. No one's asked about these, we're glad you actually want to buy these things. Yeah, we've got like 70 or 80 that we need to get rid of. Oh, this is great!

Me: :O Seriously? That's fantastic! Uh, what systems are they for?

Them: Systems... wait wha...?

Me: ...What systems are the games for?

Them: Games... oh, uh, no, I've got tapes. Video tapes.

Me: YOU STUPID MORONS! USE YOUR fucking EARS!!!!

Them: Fuck you muthabiotch! Immo keewyaw!

Seriously though, can't really blame them. You're average garage sailor buys tapes more often than games I suppose. I now always mention Nintendo or Sega or whatnot.

It amazes me how dumb people are.

First they don't associate video games with yard sales. Then they don't associate video games with Playstations. And then they associate video games with VHS'.

Key syllable: associate. It's not like video games are that obscure. Anyone with common sense should know these things for the most part.

Oh, and is anyone else pissed off by the "we just sold all of them" line? I hate it. It's cruel and they say it just to watch your face become contorted with pain and agony.

Note: I might be exaggerating just a bit.

I get more pissed at "We sold all of them at Gamestop" than "someone else came and bought them." At least if someone else came by and got them, hey somebody's looking too. It's about as bad is "We are going to put them on ebay" or "My son has some, but we didn't put them up for sale/didn't know we could put them up for sale."

I hear the GameStop line all the time also. It's like these people are working off of a script.

But I don't get as mad at the GameStop line considering I was hoping to rip them off just as much as GameStop does. When I hear that another person bought them, it makes me go nuts because I keep thinking like "I should have came to this yard sale first".

What do you guys think about people who have games, but they're all crappy last gen games? Should you ask them if they have anything like Playstation, Nintendo, Sega, etc or just thank them and be on your way?

Yah Samus, I would have to agree about being pissed about people saying that they "Sold their games already". But what pisses me off the most is when they give me a detailed description on what they sold, and I feel jealous of the person who bought it. Seriously, why the hell would they give off all the information on what they sold, its pointless.

But anyways, my area has a ton of games, but this mostly due to a store nearby called "Game Xchange" which sells vintage games for a decent price. On many (most I should say) consoles I buy, there is a "Game Xchange" sticker on there, and it leaves an annoying "VOID" thingie on there. I have gotten all my cheap consoles from people who bought them there, and it is awesome.

I hate it when I hear someone just bought them becasue that means that the guy is ahead of me. I prefer being the first game buyer out the door.

Here you have to get up at 4 am to get anything good because hundreds of people come up from Mexico in huge F-150s and buy everything that they can fit in the truck.
When my grandma had a yard sale there were people lined up in front of the house at 4:45 in the morning honking for her to come out and start the sale. lol

They have sales on Thursday?

The nationwide garage sale day has always been Thursday, but in the last 10 years or so, people have been starting on Fridays or later.

Yes I'd say ask them if they have any other video games (probaby even throw in some keywords as others have mentioned like Sega, Nintendo & or Atari) I remember one of my best finds at a yardsale only had Warcraft III out marked at $5 or $10 before I asked about video games. Some people might bring out something like a few PS2 games they have sitting around the TV that they never play but may not consider digging out an older system they have in the attic or basement that they may not mind parting with.

In my area, it's been consistently Saturday, followed by Sunday and Friday. I've never seen anything on other days.

If I ever hold a yard sale, I may wait until someone comes looking for games and just for shits and giggles mention every 'zomg rare' or sought after game(Intelligent Qube, Silent Hill, MVC2, etc) I can think of off the top of my head and say that 'I just let those all go for like $5'. Then ask what that person would've offered me.

Hopefully, it'll be one of you guys and you'll come on here and rant about 'how some idiot sold all these great games for $5'. <evil laugh>

It would be even funnier to put rare games like those in a box labeled 25 cents.
Then when they come up with all of them, say oh, that's the price for the box. These are $200 each.

That would be cruel and sounds like something I would do, especially if I saw the drool coming from their mouths upon seeing such games in one box together.

Well, I got a bunch of random crap (some board games, some ribbon, a shirt, some herb pots, and a teeny tiny vase), but my husband made a cool find, as follows.

So we find a sale in a neighborhood, and he finds a boxed copy of SimFarm. I am talking about a 3.5" disk version. It is priced at a quarter. Well, we remember from last summer, when we sold my CD-ROM copy of Sim Classics (which included SimFarm), that SimFarm at least used to fetch a really nice price, and last fall we found another CD-ROM copy at a pawnshop and turned that around too.

He checks the box, and everything is in the box - the manual, the registration cards, the Maxis catalog, the card you could send in to get free 5.25" disks if you needed them, everything - except the disks. Oops. Sale was run by an older lady who didn't even realize what the game disks were, so, whatever. I buy a tiny heart-shaped vase for a dime, and we continue through the neighbor.

Two blocks away, still in the same neighborhood, I'm offering a woman a dollar for her set of herb pots, and Aaron notices a small stack of boxed PC games - SimFarm and SimTower. $2 each. This time, they had the disks, and pretty much everything in the box - but the box itself was a little crappy, some tape on the box, a coffee stain on the manual, etc.

He offered a dollar, but it belonged to her kid, so he paid the full $2.

Then we turned around, went back to the other, bought the disk-less copy for a quarter, and I switched the disks into the non-crappy box, which we'll now resell.

And I kept the box and manual from the crappier copy, and put it on our PC games shelf, because I still have SimFarm installed on one of our machines and the manual is actually pretty useful.

Edit: And geez, how are you people finding Super Mario All-Stars, seriously, I want to find it.

Edit for funny moments: the house asking $4 each for PS1 Tiger Woods '00 and a bunch of N64 wrestling games; the house with a burned copy of Win98SE for $1 (which we would've gotten if it weren't burned).

Unfortunately, this weekend was a total bust. The only thing that I found at all was an older Super Mario Bros Lunchbox. It was only $0.50 and i though thatwas worth it. They lady also said that she had a box of with adventure type games for playstation. I am really hoping that she calls. I am getting a little tired of the dry spell going on here. however I got a new job that pays great and also with a flexible schedule meaning more friday morning yard sales...

Good times will hopefully ensue.

I hope that's not true, but it might be. I haven't found much lately. I've talked with people and they said they had people clean them out of games. Garage sales are really my only hope of finding classic stuff so that is annoying.
